    I bought a rebuilt cylinder head for my 03 Sonoma! Had to replace it because I broke the spark plug in the Number 4 cylinder, and then broke the extractor in the broken spark plug!! When I took the head off I found that the head gasket was leaking and the previous owner put head gasket sealer to try to stop the leak! Glad I did the work, because the truck runs great now! Interesting video series on these great little trucks! Thanks for sharing!

    Really like this video, I have a 97 S10 that overheated on me from a blown water pump, now doesn’t have any compression, definitely gonna have to do the exact same thing you went through. Thank you.

    Awesome video! I'm replacing the head gasket on my 95 s10 and had to take the head to the machine shop so its cool to see what actually happened after I dropped it off.

      They are not adjustable, they just bolt down. They are a pedestal design

    TU & subscribed, thanks. good video.
    98 Sonoma 2.2, purchased in 2020 (Houston) for$3,000 @156k, ran perfectly until 174k, seller told me a "master mechanic" owned the truck the majority of its life. Body\paint perfect-looked new, drove and sounded perfect.
    @174k Coolant leak observed after driving 5mins, hot engine (not too hot) no warning lights. I replaced coolant and did an oil change as it was due. Traveled

      Wow, sorry about all those mechanic issues. If the head gasket failed that quick something caused it. Repairs like that dont just fail. Possible but not common for those blocks to crack. If he cut that many corners it could be as simple as he re used the old head bolts. They are torque to yield bolts aka one time use, once tightened and heat cycled and then if ever removed they need to be replaced. If he reused them the bolts are already stretched out and not be be reused, but did he, that is the question.

      @@JunkinwithJr Yes, I have considered that. I won't know until I get it removed. Given he refuses to give me a receipt I can't determine beforehand. It appears the exterior head bolts that are visible now are new.
      I know he did not label the rods which I thought should be labeled and replaced where they originated. Since then, I have spoken to a man that claims to have rebuilt many engines, he says it's not required.
      Thanks for the response.

      @@JunkinwithJr "Possible but not common for those blocks to crack." is there an area that is more prone to cracks than others? Other than a visual inspection from the open-top how the heck will I know or find it without complete removal?

    Very interesting and informative video. I enjoyed watching the rebuild and was blown away on how beautiful it sounded after it was all put together. Did you end up keeping it or sell it? Proud owner of a 04 chevy blazer. Currently working on fuel pump replacement. Oh such fun lol

    Is the 2.2L OHV Chevy/GMC a reliable engine? I am considering purchasing an S-10 extended cab 5 spd with the 2.2L OHV engine. I live in SoCal, LBCA but drive & forth to Nashville where my brother & nephew live. I have a 95 DakotaV6 with 176,000+miles which I have driven 3 times but it is getting expensive.

    • @JunkinwithJr
      @JunkinwithJr  2 роки тому

      In my opinion they are reliable, as long the coolant system and hoses are up to date like the ones I fixed in this video

      @@JunkinwithJr ok thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I have 3 vehicles, 2 inherited or replacements for inherited vehicles which are getting old and want a higher fuel mileage and cleaner vehicle. I would like to convert this vehicle, the 2.2L GM truck, and the 3.9 V6 Dakota and a 2003 4.2LV6 F-150 to propane or NG since it burns and is a bit better for GHG emissions. Are you aware of any kits or conversion shops to do this conversion?

    Knowing you had to shave the head du to warpage, did you have any concerns about the block being warped?

    • @JunkinwithJr
      @JunkinwithJr  Рік тому +1

      I'm sure the block wasn't perfect, but with it being such a larger piece of metal it won't warp as bad as the head. With heat cycles they are never perfect, but that's the head gaskets job
