Joe I just wanted to tell you... THANK YOU. I know I've told you this many times but I'm so thankful that you have kept the GameSack brand A-Goin! You know, on Choplifter you can eject the hostages from your helicopter after you've been hit. They don't have to all die. Just keep pressing the attack button after you're hit and they'll parachute out one by one. You can get about 3 or 4 of them out before you crash depending on your altitude when you take the hit.
Nice trick it worked, never knew that before, in the master system version the hostages fly away in little jets and in the NES version the hostages jump out with little parachutes just like in the Arcade version except you don't use the attack button to do that you use the button that changes the chopper's direction, nice parallax scrolling in both versions though.
My dad collects arcade machines because he likes playing them, but also because he likes to collect them. I'm glad for that fact because it really showed me how deep this hobby/fandom can go. The reason for the labels on your Ghouls ‘n Ghosts pcb is that is was converted from either a SF II Champion Edition or Hyper Fighting pcb using modified roms to work on those later CPS-1 boards. It was a much more affordable solution than buying an original early CPS-1 Ghouls ‘n Ghosts pcb since the SF2 pcbs are far more common.
Welp, you must hear the sound of a "System 16B" Shinobi machine in MAME, rather than the unfiltered "System 16A". The System 16B MAME driver, outputs the sound through the correct analog audio filters. The sound is perfectly duplicated... Oh! and you must use MAME 0.218 that came out right AFTER this video. Great video, dunno how I managed to miss this one seeing as I love me some arcade action. I got around 130 boards and 39 cabs now so you got a bit of catching up to do. It did help starting collecting in the mid-90s though, prices in the last few years specifically have gone crazy. Hnnng! That non emulated "Mission One" sound on Shinobi, that's exactly how I remembered! Playing it on MAME sounded so different and I didn't know why!
Theres an emulated arcade Shinobi on the Sonic Ultimate Genesis collection on the PS3 & Xbox 360 and it has correct sounding voices in it. The main reason I bought that game disc.
He's comparing the wrong versions of Shinobi, in MAME the one to compare to is 'shinobi5'. Looks like he's running regular 'shinobi' in MAME which is the first version of the game.
I've watched gamesack from the beginning but this was the episode Joe really found his stride. The comedy seems genuine, no more stage fright. I miss Dave like you wouldn't believe but this is the first ep where Joe alone seems great.

Awesome Joe. Would love to own some arcades. Only one I recently got was the Arcade One Up Pac-man cocktail. Not the same as the original but anything is better than none.😆 So when is Game Sack going in Tate mode? 😂
Yeah, if I were independently wealthy I'd love to build my own personal arcade. Of course then you have to worry about maintaining these old machines, and cost of powering these old machines. I think MAME/emulation cabinets are a good middle-ground, the emulation is good enough for most people and it's far less hassle.
I've always fantasized about owning certain arcade machines, but never the PCB boards. When I was a kid, I always wanted a Double Dragon & Bad Dudes arcade machine in my bedroom. Of course, the amount of space they take up is unreal.
A lot of Arcade companies scratched off the markings on the chips so they would be harder to bootleg. In other cases (like CAVE who used IGS chips for their games), they were embarrassed about using Taiwan-based chips.
@@techguyml No they didn't what? In the early days a lot of games had off the shelf parts, so they just scratched off the markings on the chip so it give them a little more time of having the game in the arcade without worry about it being bootlegged. Then in the late 80s and the 90s many games had their custom chip markings scratched off (in this case of ganbare gonta 2) it was a Mitchell game, but it used Data East chips. Hard to say why they did this, but it was done. There are even some instances of game companies scratching off just the production date of the chip because they didn't want people to know they used old chips.

TATE MODE
Have you added any more 1ups since you posted this a year ago?
How does this channel only have 236k subs. Another ace video gaming sacks. GG.
22:45 Sacrilege! Everybody in their right mind knows "Ghouls" is 73x better than "Ghosts"
WHOA! Death Adder! That game is legendary for me! Awesome!!! Great episode!
Holy Crap! Thanks JOE! Did you really hear my request or did you have this planned?
I've always fantasized about owning certain arcade machines, but never the PCB boards. When I was a kid, I always wanted a Double Dragon & Bad Dudes arcade machine in my bedroom. Of course, the amount of space they take up is unreal.
Holy crap. Respect to you for your efforts man, I'm going to just stick with emulation! 😁
Yes! Quality as always joe. Eternal appreciation for all your efforts making my favorite youtube show ever
A lot of Arcade companies scratched off the markings on the chips so they would be harder to bootleg. In other cases (like CAVE who used IGS chips for their games), they were embarrassed about using Taiwan-based chips.
Mahoujanai no they didn’t
@@techguyml No they didn't what? In the early days a lot of games had off the shelf parts, so they just scratched off the markings on the chip so it give them a little more time of having the game in the arcade without worry about it being bootlegged. Then in the late 80s and the 90s many games had their custom chip markings scratched off (in this case of ganbare gonta 2) it was a Mitchell game, but it used Data East chips. Hard to say why they did this, but it was done. There are even some instances of game companies scratching off just the production date of the chip because they didn't want people to know they used old chips.
Awesome collection, I have a small collection and a couple of arcade machines :) it is a fun hobby but I agree maintaining the CRT's is a pain.
Joe, I recently discovered that Spotify had an artist channel for Zuntata. As a fine connoisseur of video game music, are there any official game music artist/channels on Spotify that you recommend?
Zuntata... jesus Taito was on the ball having those guys in-house.
Very entertaining episode Joe, thank you. It felt like when a friend of mine invited me into his house to show off new games of his own.
I'd like to have a PCB but after hearing you talking about all the effort implied in its maintenance (like having a crazy son as we say in my country) I think I will stay with my Pandoras 5S.
You may not have a big collection but it is a cool collection! I Love it!
"Can it run Choplifter?" should replace "Can it run Crisis?"
I disagree.
One is a test of system performance, the other is a test of whether the system is worthy of a purchase.
I don’t have any stand alone PCBs or arcade cabinets, but I do have an extensive AES/MVS collection I like to believe is my arcade collection. Great video!
"Die American Soccer!" -An American
Great work as usual, Joe. Thanks for all that you do!
Yeah imagine a game called "Z Soccer" in the US.

Z Soccer: Freedom Fries Edition

The term soccer comes from England historically in the first place and saying "zed" instead of "zee" doesn't make any sense. It's "ay" "bee" "see", not "ay" "bed" "sed".
So many fond memories of playing Rastan as a kid. Such a mean game but for 1987 it was a treat for the eyes. Also, I don't usually pay attention to video game music but they did a great job with it.
7:50 - some chicks clothes come flying off! Score another point for Astynax.
Must be Kevlar fabric or something, takes several swings of the axe, lol.
Rastan Saga is one of the all time classics, stunning graphics and game play.
