    I'm a relatively new fan to IndyCar and racing as a whole, so take anything I say with a grain of salt.
    I think Chase is on the money with the idea that IndyCar is still "young" with regards to recovering from the split. My entire generation (28 years old) did not grow up hearing about IndyCar whatsoever. I knew of the Indy 500, and I knew of NASCAR, and that was it. Embarrassingly, I didn't know that the Indy 500 wasn't NASCAR until I went to the 500 for the first time in 2022.
    As a kid growing up, the only racing fans I knew were into NASCAR and that's it. Myself and my friends were not interested in NASCAR though, as we saw it as a culturally southern interest and didn't identify with that growing up in the suburbs of Ohio. If we had even known what IndyCar or open-wheel racing was, that might have been different. I never thought I'd enjoy racing until I was at the Indy 500 and saw what cars going 230 mph looked like while pressed up against the infield gate at IMS. Once I saw that, I was hooked.
    If we're going to grow IndyCar into something that competes with NASCAR at a viewership level, I think it starts with marketing. I had never seen (or at least remember seeing) an ad for IndyCar until they advertised the Indy 500 on FOX this football season. The biggest thing is just telling people that IndyCar exists, the cars are fast, and this is what it looks like. Without putting those images in the heads of potential viewers, my entire generation literally has no idea what they're missing. I hope that FOX and IndyCar are able to up the advertisement to put the product in front of people's eyes because I've absolutely fallen in love with the sport and I know there's tons of people like me who just haven't had the chance to find out that they'd love it.

      this comment honestly paints the exact picture of what we need. it's as simple as knowing what IndyCar IS in relation to NASCAR. There is almost no mainstream advertising for IndyCar in the places many folks consume information. The FOX stuff has been fantastic! We need 10X that. Now I believe we have been doing a better job on social media and stuff like that but it definitely still costs a lot to do said advertising. Once we get people to watch we have to keep people watching. That is also a challenge.

      @@ConorDaly22 Definitely! I think IndyCar has a great chance at bringing viewers back if you get them to watch. It's impossible for every race to be amazing, but I can't believe anyone wouldn't be intrigued by races like Milwaukee and Gateway this past season.
      I think the IndyCar UA-cam presence could be huge for growth. Your channel, Pato's, and Newgarden's are a great start. More channels like FP1Will covering the season that have a casual/entertainment perspective would help as well.
      I might fuck around and try doing an IndyCar content channel for next season, but no promises I'll be good at it lol

    I would love to see Fox do some sort of informative campaign about the difference between IndyCar and Nascar leading into the 2025 season. Difference in cars, series, rules, etc. Maybe short videos they can play during football games or something. I attended 5 IndyCar races this season and whenever I return back to work on Monday and talk to coworkers about my weekend, saying I attended an IndyCar race they say, Oh that's right you're a Nascar fan. And I have to correct them and explain how IndyCar is actually different than Nascar. I try to explain it to as many people as I can, but how can we expect ratings and interest to grow when the general population just lumps the two series together in their mind, or they just don't even know what IndyCar is.

    • @ConorDaly22
      @ConorDaly22  4 дні тому +1

    Conor Daly, I am a huge Nascar fan, but I also love Indy NTT and F1. Have diecast for all three in my collection and I watch all three. Some after the fact, usually F1 because of timing of the races, but I watch all 3. I even watch the practices and qualifying of all 3. Yep, I'm that addicted! So I must be one of the few.
    I love Speed Street and look forward to listening each week. Hoping to see you in a full-time ride on the Indy NTT circuit for 2025!

    I have a tape of some of the 1996 Indy practice coverage. Andy pretty much got spooked by Brayton's death the day before the second qualifying weekend, and decided he needed more practice in order to attempt qualifying, versus jumping in a last-minute car assignment and try to get up to the necessary speed in two days.

    I guess you'll be talking about the Penske acquisition of the Long Beach Grand Prix next week, and I look forward to hearing about it. As for Parker Kligerman, I'm sorry he's retiring from full-time racing. I've been a fan of his since he was driving trucks for Brad Keselowski and got fired, thus enabling Brad to find out it wasn't Parker, it was his trucks. I am going to have to find someone else to listen to on the Xfinity race scanner. I hope you guys can figure out how to make the motor racing series cooperate to allow fans of all of them to watch as many different races as we want to! I've tried following NASCAR and Indycar races at the same time, and it doesn't really work.

    1:24:41 I was watching IndyCar highlights at work a couple months back and a guy on my team got excited until he realized I was watching IndyCar and not F1. I tried so hard to explain to him that IndyCar has (imo) a better product even though it's not as popular. He wasn't having it. I don't understand the "cultism" around individual portions of motorsport.

    Here’s my opinion. You have one of the biggest sports media companies in Pat Mcafee in Indianapolis and all he ever talks about is how IndyCar doesn’t market except the Indy 500 then he says “don’t go” why hasn’t indycar tried to work out some sort of deal with him to promote IndyCar

    • @ConorDaly22
      @ConorDaly22  4 дні тому +6

      i watch the show and know Pat and I've never heard him say dont go. I've heard him talk more about Indy 500 stuff than any other sports show actually. He even had Scotty Mac on during May this year. It does take marketing dollars to get shows like this to talk about us though. NASCAR pays Barstool Sports and the Pardon My Take Podcast to push their events and that is honestly what we need to do. You've got to pay these shows to talk about us. Force feed IndyCar to everyone

      @ but you specifically live in the city. Honestly in my opinion you are no different than Caitlin Clark or Tyrese Haliburton who all it takes is “hey Conor come on the show” or “I’m gonna face time Conor Daly real quick” I love Pat but I wish he would promote it more the 500 sells itself it’s the St Petersburg or the Road America that needs help

    Formula E is heavily subsidized by the series owner, and by the factory teams. (Hence the driver pay...)
    Part of Indycars problem is that Tony George spent millions subsidizing the IRL to destroy Cart/Champ car, and no-one is investing an equivalent amount of money to build the series back up...
    In my opinion: Indycar needs to market the hell out of the series championship to get people to care about more than just the 500.
    The I500 should only be pushed in May. As long as they push the I500 as 'the only race that matters' you can hardly expect people to care about the series as a whole. (No extra points for the 500)
    And Indycar just needs to ignore F1. Stop comparing to them at all, and promote to the domestic audience.

    • @ConorDaly22
      @ConorDaly22  3 дні тому

      honestly Roger penske is spending FAR more money than the Hulman George family ever did hah. it's definitely not easy especially as technology continues to advance. We already eliminated double points at the 500. It's a process and I hope we can get there but you do have some good points of course

    • @jaeger4540
      @jaeger4540 3 дні тому

      @@ConorDaly22 He's certainly spent a lot buying the series and on the I500... That's not quite the same thing as TG pumping big money into promoting the IRL for 12 years blowing everything up.
      TG's vision for American open-wheel racing was empirically proven wrong. (with one good point that has yet to be addressed...)
      The series just really needs to move past the I500 as the ONLY race, and onto the series championship as THE thing if they are to make any long-term upwards headway. Hopefully the FOX deal will really help out.
      Of course it's all very easy to tell other people what to do with their time and money...

    I understand I am not part of the target audience for NASCAR now. I know the WWE is aa good model for entertainment. I sold my RV and quit attedning NASCAR races a couple years ago. I attend some Indy Car races. a couple IMSA races and an F1 race and love the high quality F1 Merch. I lik3e a driver I can admire and root for. NASCAR to keep the hshow going made the playoffs to prevent the best driver from winning. That and GWC which negate the rest of the race, I just cannot watch cup anymore. I do like the truck races. Race fans may be a niche minority now. Still for the time being I am glad that Indy Car still caters to racing. I do wish they had a subscription model like F1 where I can pay around 100 USD a year and watch all the races practices, and perhaps some driver shows, race previews, etc. BTW, Sting Ray brings a good record before reaching Indy Car. I would like to see him do better. Just Because Sting Ray racing Will Power would be such a fun story to tell with just the names.

    • @ConorDaly22
      @ConorDaly22  4 дні тому +1

      interesting to hear your perspective for sure. I dont necessarily agree that the playoff model prevents the best driver from winning. But it certainly makes it harder on the person who has had the best season overall.
      Did you subscribe to peacock to be able to watch all the practice sessions and qualifying sessions? That was our subscription service that was available to everyone for pretty cheap as well. Every session will be on TV next year as well through FS1 and FOX.
      I would also still disagree on Sting Ray. Again, a nice kid and probably would have a great career in sports cars but just not anywhere near the pace in IndyCar.

      @@ConorDaly22 Yes, I subscribed to Peacock. Although I know that will not be available next year. I really enjoy watchihng a masterpiece of driving. It does not have to be exciting passing for me to appreciate the skill and the stratgey behind a race. I also like non spec racing which is why I like F1 and IMSA is the manufacturer competition. I think this is what Indy Car has going for it. There were exciting races to watch often (not every time). The cars are kinda boring though. Just a race fan's view. I like watching the best whether in cars or at the Olympics. Skill at something I cannot do fascinates me. I voted wwith my money for what I liked.
