This episode truly has a bit of everything! Lots of Indycar silly season chatter to discuss. News seems to be dropping every day. We had to record this episode on a Monday instead of Tuesday this week as I had to get to Charlotte on Tuesday of this week for a NASCAR Truck seat fit. We might have missed a few things overall this week but that means next week's show will also be stacked!

What Can Drivers Adjust While Driving An INDYCAR?
Переглядів 3,2 тис.16 годин тому
I put together a video discussing what we can actually adjust ourselves as drivers inside the car during a practice session, qualifying session or race. I got a few questions about this recently and I might have gone into more detail than people wanted but hopefully this helps everyone understand what we are working with inside the car! Feel free to ask more questions in the comments! Obviously...

Haha thank you
CD, ... you got the fffnn new guy screwin' with that bs penalty right off the rip. As if you really benefited from it. They should've hit you with a radio heads up/warning. Of all the clear violations encountered during a race weekend, they ding you with that. You need a full time ride in Trucks. That way when you roll into the local small town, stopping at the local 𝘽𝙪𝙘-𝙚𝙚𝙨 ... the Southern Belle cashier inquires; "𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘸?" You can respond; "𝙈𝙖'𝙖𝙢, 𝙄 𝙖𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙬"
Haha thank you!
I wish I had a contact in truck series 😕 would love to watch from the pits like I had in past! Trucks are so fun!@
It’s a great series!
Love the fact that they have to do both sides, looks cool !!! ....and that sound of those guns always remind me of Lightning McQueen and pitstop by Guido 😅🙌🏆
Haha for sure
For what it’s worth from a fan, what you got called on to start the race was a complete nothing burger soft call🤣 pass thru was ridiculous for that
Thank you! I couldn’t agree more. I was blown away
Not much luck with those radios. Didn't your last truck race have radio problems too?
Nope, the Xfinity race at the roval last year did though!
Do some more iracing live streams it was entertaining. 😀😀😀😀😀😀
Haha I will try
Did u have fun?
Bit of a tumultuous night but yeah there were fun parts!
Good luck at the truck race tonight!!
Thank you!
This is great info couple of questions. For the weight jacker is only located in the rear right tire. Didn't know if that has changed. Also are the throttle shaping maps/modes in Indycar unique to each team/driver or are they preset by the series where every driver has the same throttle shaping options. Would love to hear more about the throttle shaping I know map 6 was S and map 7 was Butterfly. Curious if more have been added with the introduction of the hybrid.
The weight jacker is not only located in the left rear tire, I’m sorry if that’s the way I made it seem? It’s a transfer of weight though spring load from opposite corner to opposite corner. Honestly not entirely sure what you mean by the S and butterfly names. You can tune any part of the throttle and power delivery essentially. But you don’t really have to mess with it much on ovals. Road courses you tune the power delivery to help traction. All of it is entirely customizable and with the hybrid you go from 12 engine maps to 24 engine maps. All can be whatever fuel trims or throttle pedal maps
@@ConorDaly22 Thank you for the quick response. So from your response for ovals is there a hydraulic piston in both the right rear and left rear tire? I was only familiar with the hydraulic piston weight jacker in the right rear tire.
@@Davavar there is nothing in the tires at all. The hydraulic system is on the damper.
@@ConorDaly22 thank you for fast response. Found a video from RLL that shared the hydraulic piston is on the right rear dampener only. On a side note. Really hoping you get a ride nice to see a fellow hoosier in the series to root for.
yes essentially that is correct there is a hydraulic system in the right rear damper that makes it all happen. thank you!
Great episode this week. Still looking forward to seeing Conor in a full time seat in 2025.
I’m hoping for the same! 🙏
Pulling for you Conor and hope you get that jhr ride. I enjoyed seeing you qualify the car at Nashville and watching your time hold up. I was feeling rain drops with like three cars left to go. Lol. Lastly, i think Alexander is a great fit for that team but i never cared for his driving style after 2018 st pete.
Thank you!
I love the idea of a 10 road and 10 oval split. My ideal schedule would be 6 road courses, 4 street races, 6 small oval races, and 3 1.5 mile or bigger tracks (Chicagoland please), and then the Indy 500. My question is would the teams want the season to be longer than what it is? I’d think the drivers would want more chances to compete
I don’t see why anyone would be opposed to at least 20 races. I mean right now the off season is so long that some people could lose their jobs during the off season. I think we need more races without a doubt
A deep dive on dampers would be great!
I will try but honestly the details of it would be better explained by an engineer so maybe that is someone I will interview hah
Thanks!
Thank you, John! Much appreciated
Finally watched you instead of just listening on Spotify. It's good to see what Chase looks like. Keep up the great racing and broadcasting work.
we appreciate you listening as well as watching! it's all important for us!
Palou has to be one of the most likeable drivers ever, it's impossible to not like him as a person and a driver
he's become a great friend. definitely happy to see him succeed. Great to race against as well
Give the FBI 3 charters.
hahaha!
Alex looks like he set up a table at the end of an airport's runway.
haha he was in the driver RV lot at the nashville speedway!
I wonder how many 10 or 15 second youtube ads the Nashville race could have purchased with the $ (or even half) they paid to be on a car for a race not on NBC...
I did find that to be an interesting partnership
@@ConorDaly22 Interesting as in "What drugs is the marketing director on?"
Thanks Conor! Back in the ABC days Jack Arute would educate the viewers on this.
Jack is the man!
Always love the info/explanations on things. Couple of questions on the charter system you might be able to answer? I watched Indycar when I was a kid, and then didn't watch for a long time and have only been back for 3 or 4 years. Picking 25 for the charter system seems strange since it's been a 27 car grid for a couple of years at least. Has the grid changed often enough to not use 27 charter entries? Being that it is the number of cars allowed on any track (outside of Indy) and the number of cars for the last few years, I was just wondering why they wouldn't make it 27 charters. 2nd question, what incentive, if any, does a team like Prema have at this point in Indycar? They can't win leaders circle money, even if they do really good and can they get a charter later, or does it only come if a team sells to them? If they had joined Indycar a year earlier in 2024, then would they have had an in for at least one charter?
25 was picked so one team like CGR couldnt have 5 charters which is more than anyone else. the max amount of charters is 3 per team. This is the best way to make it fair but also let PREMA compete. This deal was started and being worked on far before PREMA was even in the series. So in fact Indycar made room for PREMA to compete by limiting other teams. they have a chance at prize money every week, they have a chance to compete for points and championships. Realistically, if they sell sponsorship and run the business effectively then the business pays for itself until they get an opportunity to either buy a charter or get involved in the next deal. it might not make full sense but if all the team owners agree on something, it must mean it's good so I would believe them hah
Thanks for him not begging for an F1 ride
i respect it
Would love to see a walkthru of the workload in the car during a pit stop.
what do you mean by workload during a pit stop? the driver doesnt do much to be honest hah
Good luck at Kansas Speedway this week.
thank you!
Respect from Ukraine You deserve to be in full time season 2025
i appreciate that!
🙏🏻🙏🏻 sending prayers to you & your country 🇺🇦
With this talk of charters and maybe new money, time for a new car like David Land has mentioned. Faster and designed for the hybrid for better racing and a wider range of performance according to a driver/teams engineering ability.
that is hugely necessary but the development for that car costs Penske entertainment quite a massive amount of money. I believe we'll see a new car by 2026. At least I hope so!
Great pod. As a Rossi fan I can say I’m extremely disappointed in his signing today. Raw deal coming at the end of 25.
I really do hope it goes well for him. I believe that team has a lot of potential if they get rid of just two people.
I do not like Ed. I believe ECR exists to sabotage drivers. He "Mutually Separated" Conor in the middle of the season with no chance of an open seat. He strung Rinus along until there were almost no seats left. Ed knows he's a lower tier team and he can't risk firing a driver that finds a new team that out performs all his cars. That's why, every race, the real victory is seeing how many positions Conor beats all of Ed's cars.
the way rinus was treated after everything he did for that team is beyond sad. Not even a "thank you" tweet or anything. Insane
Thank you for all you do Conor. Mad respect and support for your future!!!
thank you!
Great episode with Alex. He's a guy who looked after himself with regards to that McLaren deal. I hope he's not crucified after the mediation. McLaren will terminate contracts that have been drafted by their lawyers and heavily favoring them, but God forbid a driver look after themselves.
I think he'll be just fine in the end!
Conor, will be interested in hearing your opinion on the newest ECR news.
I certainly have a lot of thoughts on it.
Great show! 2024 was a bizarre year in Indycar. I'm hoping Indycar 2025 is bizarre great. Cheers
we shall certainly see!
Mad respect for Alex! His trajectory in Indycar is unheard of. 2025 is the year for 3’s. Palou for the title three peat, Josef for the 500 three peat, and potentially a thirsty 3’s title fight!
he is without a doubt the most dominant driver in our series right now!
Great episode 👏 Good luck in Kansas! PS: Just heard the news Rossi is going to ECR 🙄
thank you!
ECR now has a ton of investment/sponsorship from the new co-owner AND Alex Rossi. Should be an improved team in 2025. It sucks for Rinus and he definitely deserves to be on the grid, but I would probably hire Rossi over him too.
You could have all the money in the world but you have to use it correctly, take RLL for example... the drivers at ECR have not been the problem and that has been proven time and time again. I definitely hope they turn things around for Alex's sake!
Does Alex turn it around with the Heartland foods money or does the lackluster team end his Indycar days in 4-5 years. I know Indycar is your goal but I wouldn't let a good team in that other series get away if the opportunity came. I do feel the biggest thing Indycar can do is a new wagon and powertrain. Ideally the engine and trans not being integral. Flat on the outside Friday, GL.
I think he's found a home for a long time with that level of investment from the new partner. That means then they can pay Alex appropriately for years to come. Hopefully performance comes with that money as well.
“Adding weight to the right front creates understeer. Because it just does” This is an aspen because of the way it is moment 😂😂😂😂
It’s just a scientific fact. I’m not an engineer lol
@@ConorDaly22 hahaha I just thought it was funny how you said it 😂 no shade!!
#racingscience 😂
Thanks for an excellent explanation of the tools. I'd like to see a video of how drivers save the tires. Is that different on road courses vs ovals? Thanks again. You're a good teacher!
Saving tires almost can’t really be explained but I’ll try to think about how I could do that
Apart from the dampers, which I honestly don't know much about, are there other things teams can develop. I use develop loosely since this series is more or less stock. Would also love the drivers perspective on what your wishes are for the next gen car.
The dampers are the biggest and most important area of development. There are no other areas of development where you can create things other teams don’t have. The gear box is a huge area of focus for teams to find speed at indy. There are lots of tricks inside the gearbox that some teams have figured out and others haven’t
Damn! i missed the live feed…bummer. Looking to get into Iracing
i'll do more stuff like this at some point!
Yeah I missed it too
Very informative, Conor! Really helps to make sense of what is happening during a race! I’m a technical nerd, so I love this stuff! Thanks!
No problem! Thanks!
Great info, thank you!!!
No problem!
Great video! One item that virtually no one addresses directly is the various teams Damper programs... How big of a difference do they make to the cars? Which teams dampers seem to favor which tracks? how do smaller teams keep up? Read an article that some teams also do a lot of work on shaker tables and wind tunnels. I'm sure some teams have a comparative advantage there as well. Any chance we could get a breakdown on this stuff as well? I just found it curious that these things are almost never mentioned or discussed. Certainly not on the on-air broadcasts. Or am I reading to much into things and these are largely non-issues?
Honestly that is where all the secrets are. So it’s hard to explain other than those pieces of the suspension create grip. So if you have the best dampers you produce the most grip. And there are no rules when it comes to dampers so you could spend $30M a year on a damper program if you wanted. You can buy dampers off the shelf, or you can build your own. That’s a simple way to explain it. But that’s our only area that is essentially completely open for development and what separates teams
Creepy Portland admission… we were watching on the hill at the entrance to the front stretch, and all of a sudden… I see Beth Boles (aka mama Daly) walking up the hill and she sits next to us to watch the race…and the way I was fangirling…😂🙈🙈
Haha I love that!
Very informative! Thanks for the explanation
No problem !
Nice video CD ;-) How important are the tools at Road America given The carousel and turn 1?
Tools will be more helpful on ovals but yeah if you’re struggling in those corners you can definitely help yourself with the bars. But you’ll need all the front grip you can get in the slower and medium speed corners
Thanks Conor never realised as a driver you have so much to do while driving at speeds of over 200+MPH Hoping your in Indycar next season!
It’s definitely busy behind the wheel! Thank you!
Like so many here allready have said, thank you for this 🙏!! Mystery tools are not so mysterious anymore 😄. I'm gonna watch this again just before '25 season for sure. Also...I assume that you will be talking about the charter system in next Speed Street ? I do understand what it means on track but is there gonna be straight financial benefit for teams what charter brings as I see so many Team Owners praising this new era. I haven't seen anything about that yet...
New episode drops tomorrow stay tuned!
