We can make a rough estimate of the size of the world given its gravity and the fact that it seems to have similar geology to our own. That and the weather along the west coast of Westeros tell us that there's another significantly sized land mass out there. Were there not, the wind speeds hitting that coast would be terrifying.
@@cosmonawt_ I watched an interview where he talks about the people he works with. He has people to ring up if he forgets things like whats on a banner etc
The supposed “paradise” across the Sunset Sea is definitely a reference to Tolkien. At the end of the book series, I imagine at least a couple characters taking a ship into the west. Frodo’s experiences in the war of the ring broke him, and traumatized him, and so he sailed into the west to the Undying Lands. Arya might sail into the west in the books like she did in the show, provided that the ending is from GRRM’s notes. She may not have anywhere else where she feels like she can go. She may abandon Nymeria, and her pack, convinced that she deserves to be alone. Although I hope she’ll get a happier ending. I think Asha and Theon (provided they survive the story) are better candidates for sailing into the west. Theon’s trauma under Ramsay makes him thematically resonate with Frodo, at least a slight bit. Asha may similarly want to get away from it all. I frankly love the idea of Asha and Theon doing this. They’re siblings that never really got to grow up together. They’ve both lived through a lot of crazy times, which I think we all know is exhausting. And so they sail into the west, getting away from it all and making up for their lost childhood together. Never to return.
"Circum-navigating the globe without modern technology requires a lot of math." I see where this is going. "The ancient Greeks calculated the size of the Earth, and Colombus knew the world was round. Maybe Elissa did too." Oh, maybe this is just part of the vid- "Maybe they used Brilliant!" THERE IT IS!
Ever realized that the new islands kinda represents Indonesia? It has rare spices, a dragon fruit (which is pink), and huge lizard that can't be found anywhere but there (komodo dragon). In addition it kinda fits the map.
Come on. Does it really have to represent something in the real world? 😂 Besides, she only founded 3 islands which she named them all meanwhile Indonesia has more than 17 thousands of islands.
Elissa Farman's story would make a great spinoff show. It could even end with an open ending so that we never truly get to find out her end, but we get to see her adventures in the West.
If there were to be a one fo the spinoff series to be centered around Elissa Farman, then let's hope we get to see what happened to her, and not leave it vague ending?
@@Brandonhayhew leaving it open ended lets people have their own interpretation of the story. Letting people know what REALLY happened to her in the end kind of gives away too many plot points. Having an open ending could let people theorise that she might actually BE Quaithe, bad not just telling us outright that she is or isn't. Or the dragon eggs, I personally don't really want to know if these are the same eggs as the ones in the show, it would best be left the shadows and let people speculate. This like these are kind of why the books are so good, mysteries that hint towards something but either the author doesn't want us to find out yet or even at all.
Really love how you put out there that Elissa might be Quaithe... and then follow up that she was just probably was lost at sea. Great speculation without unnecessary hype. One of your best videos
Its just the east coast of essos, funnily enough, we havent seen that either so we dont know how big the sunset sea or essos actually is. Whatever damaged and caused the high radiation in the east might explain the constant storms in the sunset sea. Probably a meteorite. Perhaps the one the bloodstone emperor worshipped when it fell. The one that supposedly caused the long night. Constant darkness being another side effect of a meteorite strike.
but there's probably another continent (the America's version of this world) before you reach the east coast of Essos. as the world of asoiaf is like parallel to the real world. there's still a lot of unexplored and undiscovered places.
with House of the Dragon up and running I've dived back into the book series and such and this channel has been such a cool find between the artwork and theories and such and love that it mainly focuses on the books and not the show since the books have so much more detail and content to consider and spend time on.
After your last video about the East and learning how the Easterlings had their own ice zombie problems, and after watching this I'm pretty convinced that far to the north, beyond the Lands of Always Winter, there is a sort of Bering Land Bridge that connects Essos and Westeros, and that the White Walkers originate from somewhere around there.

As much as I like your content, I really doubt your theory that Elissa had used “Brilliant”. There is little evidence in the books that nations of the GoT had developed computer technology, much less internet. Especially Elissa, so far in world’s past. This is a very far fetched idea. I mean, think about it - they still used swords, and crossbows. A ballista is treated as some sort of mechanical marvel. Their development is still not sufficient for that kind of tech.
consider the possibility that the Game of Thrones reality is in some way related (even if very, very remotely, as in on the very, outer fringe of a distant chance) to GRRM previous works in his Thousand World series... if you've not read or heard any of the short audio books i would highly recommend them, especially the Tuf Voyaging arc of books...a lot of the same imagery appears throughout these works if you know how to spot them

The most interesting part of this is that Farman thought the world was larger than those who studied such things and specifically wanted to find new lands, which is the exact opposite of Columbus who thought it was smaller than those who studied such things and hoped to find the already known lands of the far east.
@@Raisa-gb4fh The problem with Columbus is that he is often portrayed as stupid and murderous Psychopath. Yes the diameter of the World was know - in Ancient Greece - there was a lot knowledge lost, and in the 50 years preceding the Columbus expedition there was a lot of debate concerning size of the world and it's shape (though there were no flat-earthers thankfully). Most of what we know about Columbus comes from his successor in America - the one who started Slave trade (records show it was him, couple years after Columbus death), but since it was even then seen as something meh..., he wrote in his diaries, that Columbus started it. Was Mr. C Good man? No, (although he was jailed for punishing Spanish subjects for raping Native American Women, he was against it), but he's also not a BAD villain as often now portrayed. And since practically every source on him has an agenda (was written by his opponents, or translated into English, by person who wanted to vilify Spanish, so he "mistranslated"), he is portrayed as THE EVIL. There was no knowledge of Bacteria in 15th Century, he couldn't predict that a Genocide will happen, because the Natives weren't immune to smallpox etc. If it was now it would be a Crime, but then it was tragic turn of events. And he did have a very harsh stance on raping/killing Natives, and was punished for it. I suggest watching: ua-cam.com/video/ZEw8c6TmzGg/v-deo.html Very interesting.

When Arya Stark decided to travel West of Westeros, she faced violent waters for months and a big storm finally destroyed her ship and all her crew. She survived but suffered amnesia and washed ashore on the edge of what looks like dry wastelands. As a Stark, her instincts told her to travel across the land to reach north and did everything she could to survive until that fateful day she reached the border of the northern lands and got captured by the country's imperials along with a group of soldiers. She woke up to a voice saying "You're finally awake..." Thus, the story of Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim begins. West of Westeros is Tamriel. Just kidding, I'm bored xD

But Elissa has an actual memory to those eggs and therefore she could have been emotionally involved in their fate if not fore something else, then for bad consciousness. Quaithe's cryptic geography poem would also make more sense form Elissa's mouth.

Here's a question. You know that Eratosthenes guy? The Greek astronomer who accurately calculated the circumference of the Earth over 2000 years ago by measuring the shadow cast by the sun at two places many miles apart at the same time of the same day? Well through that he could accurately estimate the size of the Earth, just with patience and a large pole. So my question is... Have the Maesters done this? What did they find? If they didn't do this, why not? It's amazingly easy to do, ignoring the long walk directly North you'd have to do. If they *did* do this, why don't we know about it? Is there some secret that they want to keep hidden? Oh my god... Did they discover the world of Ice and Fire was FLAT!?
exactly....technology and knowledge that we take for granted could have easily been lost for centuries only to be rediscovered by those determined to advance their own needs... ancient technology has been proven repeatedly not to have been nearly as primitive as first speculated
THIZZAVELI The ancient Greeks took their knowledge less from Africans (though the role of Egypt should not be discounted), but from the Societies in the Middle East and Asia Minor, as well as from the Minoans, who were an island civilization in the Mediterranean. Of course, those greeks were almost entirely wiped out, along with all of the other civilizations, by the "Sea Peoples". The (somewhat less than before) Ancient Greeks then had to rediscover all the knowledge lost, and eventually came to expand upon it. The world was brought beyond the state of the medieval dark ages, where alarmingly little knowledge was able to persist
When the Great Civilization falls, after being destroyed. They leaves behind technology and ruined empty buildings, artifacts for scholars to rediscover them.
THIZZAVELI Perhaps you are confusing "peaceful" for settled, agrarian. It seems as well that you misunderstand the timeline of the ancient civilizations in the area. The Kushites of the area encompassing Ethiopia are the earliest solidly recorded in the region beyond Egyptian trade with cultures who did not themselves make records of their civilization. These were Egyptians who had moved south following the Bronze Age collapse. Before them was a land referred to as Punt, which lacked the widespread domestication of animals that would indicate an advanced civilization. Similar to the Native American civilizations of the more recent past, they would likely have instead formed systems contemporary with their peers while picking up knowledge through their own trade with the bronze age societies.

So here's my thought: sooner or later progress is gonna catch up with whatever hardships irregular seasons bring. Westeros which suffers the most because of it also posses the highest potential to advance: - Westeros has to apply progress to make the most bang for the buck due to irregular seasons. - Westeros has the reason to try: the Eastern sea route is dominated by the Free Cities, just like in our history the Silk Road and Indian Ocean trade were dominated by Muslim Civilization. - Meanwhile the Free Cities are already stuffed up, they already have all they need, their whole existence revolves around making money out of money. - Westeros has a single continent spanning language and faith. - Westeros has much more readily available and secured land. - Westeros has a precedent of being united as a single entity. - Westeros has the most extensive history of warfare and a good taste for it. Mix all this in and you get the Spanish/English Empire in the making. And who's better off it? Westerlands and the Reach: both are rich with gold and lumber, both are on the western side of the continent. Reach has a history of Naval warfare, Westerlanders are closer to the Iron Isles. Ironborn also get a cut of the pie: Wooden ships need Iron men who will fare the hardships of voyages to crew them. But hey, Northerners also have a potential: White harbor is a known port city, so they have access to men who know a thing or two about sailing. North is rich with lumber as is established by Martin himself. But here's another clue: remember the legend of Azor Ahai and his Yi Ti counterpart? What if the East and West are closest at the north like our Eurasia and North America? That would mean that most ships would have to travel through waters controlled by Ironborn and Northerners. Westeros is a late game powerhouse in waiting.
There is two religions in westeros not one, and I thinking that first should be some kind of crusade to conquer the land where the religion of the seven began in Essos, where Tyron pass by in the last book, for the nort get a part of this money of the possible new world they should go back in the doing of ships something they stop after Bran the naval builder (with I think os very unlikely)

This video is about to become REALLY relevant.

Ever realized that the new islands kinda represents Indonesia? It has rare spices, a dragon fruit (which is pink), and huge lizard that can't be found anywhere but there (komodo dragon). In addition it kinda fits the map.
Yes, but it would mean there's no American Continent. My guess is those islands were Cuba, Puerto Rico and Dominic republic?
But Indonesia is in asia which parallel the eastern part of essos and if Westeros is Britain that means going west is going to America.
Dragon fruit is from Central America, though.
Come on. Does it really have to represent something in the real world? 😂
Besides, she only founded 3 islands which she named them all meanwhile Indonesia has more than 17 thousands of islands.

Elissa Farman's story would make a great spinoff show. It could even end with an open ending so that we never truly get to find out her end, but we get to see her adventures in the West.
Felicia Larsen lamw
yes please I want gay ocean explorers and dragons and strange new lands.
It may end with Illyrio buying the eggs hundreds of years later
This video aged very well. (Finale)
It aged better than the show did itself.

Except for the multitude of time the disappointed in predictions. Not their fault, I blame the show
with House of the Dragon up and running I've dived back into the book series and such and this channel has been such a cool find between the artwork and theories and such and love that it mainly focuses on the books and not the show since the books have so much more detail and content to consider and spend time on.
Secrets of the citadel did a video on just that very topic "The east west connection" it's one of myu favs. Go check it out

Their development is still not sufficient for that kind of tech.
lmao
Who knows? Maybe there is a cult of Technomancers somewhere in the East.
Let's see you build a ballista.
consider the possibility that the Game of Thrones reality is in some way related (even if very, very remotely, as in on the very, outer fringe of a distant chance) to GRRM previous works in his Thousand World series... if you've not read or heard any of the short audio books i would highly recommend them, especially the Tuf Voyaging arc of books...a lot of the same imagery appears throughout these works if you know how to spot them
Clearly you are no a fan of Got. Otherwise you would have realised that the glass candles are in fact Web Browsers and the worlds was waiting for dragons to be reborn to rekindle magic in the world, aka wifi.

"maybe Elissa used Brilliant"... Well that was a brilliant way to introduce the sponsor
I remember reading about Elissa and the eggs in Blood and Fire and was happy I had an answer to where Dany got her dragon eggs. It’s pretty damn definitive to me lol.
The most interesting part of this is that Farman thought the world was larger than those who studied such things and specifically wanted to find new lands, which is the exact opposite of Columbus who thought it was smaller than those who studied such things and hoped to find the already known lands of the far east.
Lensy6
Yep. Elissa was smarter than Columbus (or would have been had she not been fictional).
@@alanpennie8013 It's very easy to make fictional fantasy characters smarter than real life people, because, you know.... you can just write whatever you want.
@@EndOfSmallSanctuary97Well some people in the time of Colombus also thought that the World was bigger, they didn't just have ships to try, not that farfetched

Well, George RR Martin himself confirmed that the ASOIAF world is round.

Westeros which suffers the most because of it also posses the highest potential to advance:
- Westeros has to apply progress to make the most bang for the buck due to irregular seasons.
I think this is where George gets his plot twists. From fans making theories all over the place
