@@eldiego68 I think it's more what comes after those lines. "These are the last words, I'll ever speak. Now set me free." I think that's where the idea of a suicide note can maybe be pushed a little more, even if it's wrong
Dave explained it in an interview that the song came from his sister telling him that their mother was sick in the hospital and had passed before he got there. But later found out that she was already passed before he was told she was sick. So he thought he was too late getting to her to tell her he loved her and carried that guilt for a long time.
Very true. Check out 'Washington is Next' (2006) he talked about seven years of famine, sabotage people health, keep public undisciplined, or 'Lying in State' (2016) he mention New Normal, about how will history portray us as country. Mustaine is half sorcerer. 😁😁🤘🏻🤘🏻
Growing up in the 80's, many of our churches considered this type of music "satanic". It is a shame that so many people back then hear the guitar and automatically consider it satanic. They really needed to hear the message.
@@ameliaward7429Then he started again, because as he learned more about his faith he understood that singing an entertaining story about demons and ghosts (“The Conjuring”, “Lucretia”) and made up types of magic (“thermatology”😆 from “Five Magics”), will not manifest true evil in the world. The only things that manifest evil in the world are evil intent, and complicity with those who exhibit evil intent. Dave singing ‘The Conjuring‘ just makes a bunch of lonely , dysfunctional kids (and older blokes, like yours, truly) happy. Keeps us from causing real trouble, like… I dunno…lighting possums on fire, or eating the neighbour’s dog-then next week eating the neighbour’s kid. And nasal sex. That’s the newest delinquent craze. Y’know-all the usual stuff naturally evil adolescents get up to.
also dave mustaine in 80s: Imagine you were at my station And you brought your motor to me Your a burner yeah a real motor car Said you wanna get your order filled Made me shiver when I put it in Pumping just won't do ya know luckily for you Whoever thought you'd be better At turning a screw than me I do it for my life Made my drive shaft crank Made my pistons bulge Made my ball bearing melt from the heat Oh yeah yeah We were shifting hard when we took off Put tonight all four on the floor When we hit top end you know it feels to slow Said you wanna get your order filled Made me shiver when I put it in Pumping just won't do ya know luckily for you Whoever thought you'd be better At turning a screw than me I do it for my life Made my drive shaft crank Made my pistons bulge Made my ball bearing melt from the heat Oh yeah yeah Oh! ...
Your interpretation is spot on; from what I understand, back in the 90s, MTV wouldn't play the video because they deemed it a suicide song. From the interview I watched, Mustaine talked about how his late mother came to him in a dream, wanting to tell him one more time that she loves him.
True they did not get the message this song was written with one message what do you say when a love one goes and how do you say goodbye that was the message
Mustaine uses his music to tackle some really difficult issues we face in life. And he does it well. I don't always agree with him, but that is a good thing - echo chambers are boring. I like being challenged. But when it comes to this song, it's dead on.
You're spot on with your interpretation. I love you reaction videos and emotional responses are so genuine. As a 44 year old man who has lived with depression and anxiety for most of my life I can relate to you on a deeper level and I can't tell you how much you actually help people like me. I love what you do with your channel here to bring awareness and understanding to those of who battle with mental illness. You shine a light in our darkness so to speak and I can't thank you enough. I've only recently discovered you videos here(about 6months ago) and I've wanted to leave you a comment to let you know that you are very appreciated in what you do. You're a beautiful lady inside and out and so much stronger than you will ever know you are. Please keep up your awesome work here and don't ever doubt your worth....🤘😁🤘
When my father was terminally ill, he had a nurse who explained that, when his final days came, he would know before anyone else did. The last time I saw him was 4 days before he died, and when I left I could tell he knew. No one else did. Until that moment, I thought I'd get another chance to see him, but he knew I wouldn't. So I said goodbye. I told him he did good. I think my ability to cope with his loss was much greater because I got that moment. We got to have closure on our own terms.
I see now that my dad knew in his final days and especially his final minutes. He started getting together family pictures. And just before he passed, he told my mom "don't forget to come kiss me goodbye" before leaving for work. She was puzzled and assured him she would never forget that. He passed before she went back in to give him that kiss. You are lucky for that beautiful moment!
Yep. The day my grandfather died he chased us from the hospital. He used every excuse he could come up with to get us to leave. Finally he asked us to go get my cousin (me and her were the oldest grandkids) so my family said ok called my uncle and went to get her. By the time we got to her house grandpa was dead
This is actually a pretty interesting reaction. You should react to Megadeth's "In My Darkest Hour". Pretty good song by them. Also Megadeth is another one of those thrash bands, similar to Metallica and actually broken off from Metallica after singer and guitarist Dave Mustaine got kicked out of Metallica. After that, he formed Megadeth and this is from one of their later studio albums.
One sad note about that song is that it was written during when Metallica's original bassist Cliff Burton was killed during a tour bus accident when Metallica were doing their *Master Of Puppets tour* in Europe. Dave Mustaine was good friends with Cliff at the time even when he got kicked out of Metallica.
@@davidhabert Yea. It truly is a sad story and a rough time to see Cliff go so young. Another little sad factoid about the song is that when Dave first heard about Cliff's death, he immediately went to do some dope, proceeded to cry and compose the entire song.
Bro Metallica is similar to Megadeth . Dave is more talented than James and Co . The truth is when Cliff died , ideas died with him and Metallica did worst and worst albums .
You're spot on, the song isn't about suicide, it's about saying goodbye to the ones you love before you pass away, and how death hurts and affects the ones you leave behind.
Awesome You did one on this song Thank you This song saved my life many times When I am down and Hopeless Feeling cornered and Exhausted This song helps
I love this reaction. And yes the hair!! Dave still actually has the hair. And incidentally..I've watched you a few times and read "Metal Amanda". Lol Mental. Now i get it ❤❤❤❤❤
The demo version of this song is even more melancholy. Actually, they rerecorded this song in 2007 and had Cristina Scabbia (an Italian metal vocalist) as a guest on the song, and it's a more upbeat version. Lisa Marie Presley was slated to be the guest vocalist but Dave thought Cristina was a better fit so they recorded the song with her and released it on United Abominations.
8:57 there's something so wonderful about that smile, considering the title is "Survivor Reacts". Cheers, Amanda! Long-time Megadeth fan, and your interpretation is spot on!
You continue to be amazing. I have a couple recommendations as for some songs - no affiliate for sure but what helped me. Both from the band Crash Test Dummies - who's second album is fantastic, but I recommend from their first album (or I think it's their first) - two tracks "Superman Song" , cause I lived so long doing what the song covers. And "At my Funeral", which to this day I want it played when my days are done. Keep up the great work!! You inspire!
Thank you Amanda it's nice to hear your stories and opinions..I'm trying to sort out my own demons. I really get the part when you say you're trying so hard for everyone else there is nothing left for you...life is so hard. 💔
I really admire what you are doing Amanda.... A lot of songs are direct relations to things a lot of people experience every day and i think they are perfect mediums for working through and expressing these types of thoughts and emotions without anyone getting hurt. I really feel that you want nothing more than to assist others through the difficult things you yourself have experienced and that is such an admirable thing. Keep doing what you are doing girl! Big love
I feel like as long as I keep breaking down when I hear this song, I have more to do to help myself. I feel some... desperation when I hear it. Like the acceptance of and acknowledgment of imminent death is the most terrifying thing to me. I've stood at the edge of the void before, thought that was how I would pass. Didn't want to, but felt like it would eventually happen if things kept going how they were. Acknowledging that the path I was on would kill me was what prompted the biggest changes in my life. Sometimes I get a glimpse of that feeling I had back then in this song.
Really great reaction Amanda, thanks for sharing yourself the way you do to help others. Dave wrote some of my favorite Megadeth songs on the album Youthanasia, that this song is off of. The prior album, Countdown to Extinction has a favorite, such as Symphony of Destruction. One of those bands I think that can be overlooked because of some of the metal band stigma.
Beautiful reaction. Art and especially music can be very therapeutic. I'm glad you came across this song, helps you cope when you realize you aren't alone in your joys and struggles.
Great Megadeth song choice Amanda. This is one of their few ballads. Singer Dave Mustaine said is was about a dream he had where his dead mother visited and talked to him.
I think the song can be interpreted in multiple ways and that's what makes it such a beautiful piece of art I love this interpretation though because it's such a positive outlook on death and moving on Also Megadeth is a unit of measurement of death, so it's a measurement used for atomic bombs... the band was very anti-nuclear war so that's why the name!
Dave overdosed on heroin many years ago. He wrote this song after surviving. He's been clean and sober over 20 something years. He also survived throat cancer last year.
Thank you, Amanda, for a reaction full of insight. Some of what you were saying made me reevaluate how I thought about this song. This song is definitely from before your time : if memory serves, it's from around 1990-1992. I'd like to share some of the best advice that I received in dealing with loss. First, know that the wounds will become scars. There's no point in trying to "get over" whatever the loss may be, because that's not going to deal with it. Second, the most important moment in anyone's life is right now. Because it's only in this moment that anyone has the power to change anything. So focus on the now.
Amanda, Your comments about what you went through is exactly what I was going through when my parents told me I made my mess and I needed to fix it. My wife and my parents deserted me. I tried to end it at that time. I woke up two days later in a very bad way and an old man that was the security guard at the place I was employed told me "Son you lived, you gotta take care of the one (child) you love." I've done my best to help others. I've hinted to my kid a few times that I lived because of her. Love to you and my Baby has my heart!
I am just running across your video... thank you for being such a kind and beautiful soul, providing a warm and welcoming place for those that need it. My arms, a hand, my heart... always here if you ever need it.
Fantastic reaction/review .. great job. Your interpretation is absolutely spot on. Dave has talked about this song repeatedly. So glad you picked up on this so easily, many people do not. This is one of my favorite Megadeth songs, it is my ring-tone.
You nailed it! The meaning behind this song is, "if you knew you only had a few moments left in life, what would you say, and to whom?" For Dave, he'd simply say, "I love you" Check out the Megadeth track "Use the Man"
I clicked on this video to see how a not necessarily “metal” looking person would react to this song and ended up teary eyed hearing about your encounter with the homeless person. As someone who is trying to become more emotionally available to my loved ones, this is inspiring. The best thing we can do is spread love to everyone we encounter. Thank you for your heartfelt video! 🤟😊
Happy that you made it through.i lost my brother to suicide in 1993 and I've had some bouts of minor depression. I urge you and anyone else to listen to "the pass" by RUSH. Anytime I feel down this brings me right back up..
@@MentalAmanda we do still tell all the funny stories about him..so sorry to hear you lost your parents at such a young age..but you're doing good stay at it..and please listen to that song or at least read the lyrics..neil peart was an amazing lyricist and he hit the nail on the head with this one...much love and hang in there.
I am struggling with my mental health and addictions and appreciate your videos Amanda! I love all these songs and bands! You are greatly appreciated! Thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing your story about the homeless person. That appreciation someone can have is so beautiful. Last year I lost my father to C19 and a few years earlier I lost my mother after she had been struggling with her health for decades. Grief is a difficult process and you need to give yourself time and full awareness to realize what you are feeling.
Depression is a very personal experience that affects almost everyone the exact same way ...we all feel it's better for everyone else for us to be gone... it's amazing how 1 day at a time turns into moving past the negative emotions... stay strong and keep healing yourself and others.
The updated version from 2007 of this song is pretty good, too. Vocals are shared and harmonized with Christina Scabbia from Italian hard rock/metal band Lacuna Coil 👍🏼😊 And Dave Mustaine has had that hair for at least 40 years and still has it! Lol
Great reaction! Thanks for raising awareness for mental health. It’s such an important topic that doesn’t get talked about enough. Also, I love Megadeth!!! Xx
As someone that's suffered immeasurably in life and battled lifelong depression and so much more, you say a lot of the right things. The things only someone who knows, can say and I appreciate your heartfelt honesty.
This has been one of my favorite Megadeth songs since high school almost 25 years ago. As far as lack of accomplishment- I learned that setting deadlines for Life goals can be a double edged sword. Great if you achieve them, but if Life throws curve balls (and it WILL)... Not reaching those goals can be twice as detrimental to your self worth. Instead, set a goal that's attainable with steps defined. Leave the timeline open ended; as long as one is constantly working toward a goal... it'll happen. We as humans tend to forget we are on a timeline other than what we presume to be Ours. Whether it be God you believe in, a higher power, the Universe... we are on that timeline. We can only control choices we make and how we react to others.
Can confirm. I can remember sitting at my desk in 5th or 6th grade and thinking to myself "married at 20, kids by 30" ... ... Yeah :/ Well 11yo me isnt the first person I've let down in my now 40 years of life, and I'm sure he wont be the last. The key is just keep breathing, keep swimming. Just. Keep. Swimming. :)
Hi Amanda. Thanx for taking my suggestion (and a few others, I'm sure...) and listening to this great song. You nailed it! It's not about suicide, it's about acceptance, with comming to terms with your own mortality. A lot of people tend to confuse Acceptance with Conformity. If you have a way to deal with something, don't conform, fight and conquer, if you have absolutely no way of reverting an ending, then come to terms with the situation's inevitability and accept it, it will bring you peace of mind (and others around you - although it's not easy). My dad passed from cancer in 2012 and in his final week, when he was suffering, I wished for his departure because I rather suffer from his absence than from his presence in pain and suffering. Anyway, great reaction, loved it. Someone else in these comments suggested In my darkest hour - also from Megadeth. Good song, you should take a look into it. Luv ya and keep your spirits high. (By the way, these are just my two cents on this song, it doesn't mean that I'm right, it means that this is my interpretation of it - different people will have different views on the same subject...)
My family were so lucky - depending on how you define "luck". My parents lived into their nineties, and both passed peacefully and quickly. The author Terry Pratchett was diagnosed with a terminal variant of Alzheimer's and before he died he was a great advocate of Dignitas in Switzerland, a clinic which basically allows a person with a terminal disease to choose their own time to pass. Still doesn't help those who remain - I was with my cat when he was euthanised, held him as he took that lonely final journey, and the emotions as the final syringe is connected to the catheter, knowing that I could tell the vet to stop, but if I did, the cat would take a slower, possibly more painful and certainly a more desperately unhappy journey to exactly the same place, were, and still are to an extent, overwhelming.
I am glad for you that you discovered this masterful, emotional song. It is quite striking to hear your impressions as a survivor. Very cute how you got giddy hearing him sings in French too!
J'ai bien aimé ta réaction pour cette chanson. Ton francais est excellent! On another note, I do enjoy your channel and your authentic reactions. Keep up the GREAT work! :)
This song helped me through a very difficult time in my life after I lost my mother to cancer and I was the one who had to give the authorization to the doctor to terminate life support. The loss mixed with the guilt of being the one that gave the order to end her life tore me up.
I can't even imagine the weight of making that decision and the pain you must have gone through. Losing your mother and having to make such a heart-wrenching choice must have been incredibly difficult. It's amazing that music could help you through that, offering some comfort during such a dark time. When my mom passed, I sang Leave Out All the Rest to Myself over and over and over for days. Thank you for sharing something so personal-your story might help others who are struggling with similar feelings. Feel free to share your favorite memories of your mom so we can help keep her spirit alive.
An amazing interpretation. I am a massive megadeth fan and this song was the hand that grabbed me before I fell off the cliff. Megadeth saved me and for that I will wholeheartedly support them and continue buying and listening to their music. Metallica and Megadeth both had a hand in keeping me away from suicide and eventually pulling me away from self harm and what not. These bands are very much misunderstood by most non-metal listeners, and for me, they will do infinitely more than any pop artists singing about a breakup or rappers singing about drugs and what not (not saying that this is all of rappers or pop artists in a nutshell, there are some good ones that I enjoy). I am so glad you can appreciate them. I loved this reaction and Fade to Black. I think you should do reactions for The Unnamed Feeling by Metallica and In My Darkest Hour by Megadeth.
Thank you for this video. I appreciate your interpretation of the lyrics. It's one of my favorite songs by Megadeth. Thank you for the story about your friend. I can tell you are beautiful through and through (mind, body and spirit). I wish there were more people like you in this world... I wish I were more like you.
Loved the reaction, Megadeth is one of my favorite bands and this song is among my favorites. I would like to recommend you check out former Flyleaf vocalist Lacey Sturm who went solo a few years back. Her songs Your Not Alone, Impossible, Soldier and Life Screams are really great songs and very inspirational. Another little tid bit about her is that she at one time had planned on committing suicide and well let's just say she has an amazing story about how she never went through with it. Very cool gal, check her out you won't regret it!
No matter how bad things may seem to be, remember that world is always a better place with you in it. I believe this because of your compassion and care for others. I don't know you personally, but it's obvious, even through the noise of the internet.
When I was 19 I had a Pneumothorax on both lungs. Was In the hospital for over two weeks after surgery. Listened to this song and album constantly. I almost died. My mom visited every day. But my dad did too. Still in his paramedic uniform. He's gone now and it's been VERY tough.
It is, a person that knows is leaving and knows the pain his love ones will feel. That's why "smile when you think about me" "my body is gone, that's all"...
À tout le monde, à tous mes amis Je vous aime, je dois partir These are the last words I'll ever speak And they'll set me free An excellent song by Megadeth from one of their greatest albums (Youthanasia) and a nod to band leader Dave Mustaine's French heritage. The entire album is a masterpiece; it was the very first Megadeth album I purchased and remains a favorite of mine to this day. Thanks for the video Amanda 👍😇💟

I'm dealing with a lot especially losing a friend who passes a few days ago, and it's been hard on me, but Music is the only thing keeping me going, and I just stumbled upon your channel and I just wanted to say that I enjoy your content so much. Keep up the Good work and keep on Rocking on!!🤘🤘
This whole album this song is from (Youthanasia) is really really good. I Thought I Knew It All is a good philosophical tune with some catchy refrains.
This record was their Black Album, imho, song writing and production wise. With Countdown being Megadeths AJFA, my other favorite of theirs. Then things went a bit down hill for both bands after those, my opinion again. As Pantera and Meshuggah carried the torch for the heaviest of metal, short of death metal, keeping metal interesting and going. 🤘
@@silvercloud1641 That's an accurate analogy/comparison (Countdown = AJFA ; Youthanasia = M5/BA), and I'm inclined to agree. The stuff after Youthansia (save for the Hidden Treasures EP) did not resonate with me quite as well, as Cryptic Writings seemed to lack whatever it was that pulled me into every Megadeth album prior, so I never got into it. Risk and everything else that followed, was probably better, but by then I was a bit too removed to really dive into the albums and get reacquainted with all the post-Youthanasia material. So I also concur with your "downhill" assessment. The only difference is, while I pretty much stopped buying Metallica albums (save for the Garage Inc compilation) once the disappointment that was Load happened, I would still buy every new Megadeth release, just to keep the ole collection up to date and complete ((Megadeth's "evolution" was not as much of a "transgression" as Metallica's was for me - at least Mustaine & Co did not cut their hair! LOL). However, with every new album, the idea of doing a "listening session" got more daunting, and my limited time did not make it any easier. I heard that Death Magnetic was some kind of "redemption" effort, but I was not particularly impressed. I guess my interest in Metallica has waned too much to really care about anything beyond the "classic" era of the first 3 albums, the EP, and the 2 "sellout" albums ; in short, I'm only interested in anything Metallica before 1992, with Garage Inc being the only exception to that cut-off point. As you say, that's all merely "imho", lol. :-) Cheers.
@@BlackieNuff "was not as much of a "transgression" as Metallica's was for me - at least Mustaine & Co did not cut their hair! LOL" Lols. True. But there is one thing I have to hand to Metallica. No matter what all these years they still stuck together. More like a true band, a family. Not just hired musicians. 'Through The Never' was solid and spot on even after all these years, if you haven't seen it catch it on Netflix. With the exception of Cliff's death and two other long standing members on bass, it has been the original line up since their debut record. That's a very long time. Like what 40 years? Most bands don't last 40 months or even 40 days, let alone 40 years. The ultimate road dogs!
@@silvercloud1641 Another good point! I've tried to think of another band with as many original member mainstays (departures-and-returns do not count) who endured anywhere near 4 decades, and I could not think of anyone. That's not to say there isn't any, only that I could not think of them. Despite my "vast" knowledge of bands and artists out there (whether I listen to them or not), it's still pretty limited. I think maybe the closest picks I could find only last as long as a decade or two at most with most if not all original members, and anyone with the same kind of consistent longevity has had a revolving door of session/touring musicians but no real official members. In the case of the latter category, I've completely lost track of who all has ever "served" in the ranks - and I used to be pretty good at memorizing the lineups of all the bands I listened to. Haha, eventually, with every new album by whatever band, I'd look through the little booklet and realize another lineup change, and I'd be like "Aww, jeez! ANOTHER new guy??" At some point you just throw your hands in the air and say "whatever... as long as they are tight and sound good". :-P
@@BlackieNuff Megadeth had a good thing going with CDTE and Youthanasia. It should also be noted technical skill isn't the only thing that makes a great band, otherwise everyone would be playing classical or jazz based music. Megadeth could run circles around Metallica, with Dave singing on top it. But Metallica was just always bigger and more relateable. It's like smooth vs. chunky peanut butter. Both are good really, but that chunky and slower tempo Metallica had seemed a bit heavier and more pleasing over all. I also think many prefered James over Dave on vocals. Megadeth is still one of the greats, but Metallica is pretty legendary. Cheers. 🍻
This song makes me think of my dad every time I hear it. You and I are in the same boat regarding the loss of our fathers who have accepted their deaths.
I’m a huge megadeth fan, I lost my brother to covid this November. Me being the oldest he was the second born my brother was my first best friend. He died alone in the hospital. Till this day it rips me apart. this song along with others that him and I used to listen to. Brings back wonderful memories of me learning to play guitar and him sitting in the room with me playing Xbox and dealing with my loud racket in the backyard. Lol. Music is my therapy for all my down days. Thankfully today is a up day.🙏 I love you brother, fly high and don’t ever stop. 💙
Great reaction Amanda. Keep fighting the good fight. I noticed In My Darkest Hour by Megadeth mentioned. Another Megadeth song would be Sweating Bullets but you have to watch the video. When dealing with death, I would recommend Cemetery Gates by Pantera. Lyrically and musically, the song captures the sorrow and anger that you feel when dealing with death. Keep up the great work.
I’ve always loved this song, thank you for reacting to it. Thank you for what you’re doing, bringing attention to mental health from your own experiences is a beautiful & brave thing. You, & all your followers have my thanks, & respect. As someone who deals with depression, & anxiety, & is currently helping someone I love dearly find positive ways to improve where they are I appreciate what you’re doing. 2 recommendations for you, the first is a topic that I don’t think people realize the gravity of it, & attention brought to it is a good thing The song is “Wrong side of Heaven” by Five Finger Death Punch. The second is by the same band, it’s called “Coming Down” I’ll warn you the video is graphic, it’s been labeled as graphic, & disturbing content. Labeling it disturbing I think just promotes the stigma, it is very real, & the topic is tragic.
I remember the first time I saw you was on the reaction of Fade to black, and was surprised for your story and again for some reason i've endded again here and glad to see you one more time. Greetings from México 🇲🇽 (sorry if I wrote something wrong, my english is a little bit rusted)
Fantastic pick, great song. there is also Ozzy's Suicide Solution, which most people think, it is about typical suicide thoughts and so on, it is really about dealing with the bottle and how much it has a grasp on many people, trust me, i been fighting that fight
I was 7 years old when my grandma passed away and I was very close with her and I’m still not over the grief that I’m going through and i still miss here to this day and she was my savior when I was having suicidal thoughts at a very young age because my dad left me when I was 5 years old and I thought he left because I thought he resented me and didn’t want me. Im still having some issues but megadeth was an outlet for me getting through the sad thoughts and made me want to create my own music.
I'm sorry that you didn't get the love and support that you deserved as a child and that you lost your precious grandma. I believe that you will find your worth and find ways to share her love with the world 💖
My perspective on life has changed . A friend told me years ago . " why even consider taking your life ..find meaning by making everyone else's life miserable " . It made sense and I found purpose!! .. Everyone of us are so beautiful and special ,we are here for a reason . Many times I wanted to just close my eyes and said up smothered in love .Nobody wants to die , we all just want to be loved .. That is the origin of it all.. We want to be loved .and don't feel we are at times and it makes us withdraw . Depression and hopelessness swirls around us and doubt . By The Grace of God . I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer three years ago and not expected to live the summer of 2020 out . My eyes opened and Love poured into my heart like a prayer . I became grateful to be sick . I am alive to testify to every child of God .. You are Loved as it you were an only child . Loved as if every star in Heaven was made for you . To anyone struggling. I Love You. !!
What a Perfect Song/Lesson for Pain & Grief. You would benefit from helping others. The Gift of Charity isn't for the Needy so Much as it for the Giver. Those words are Beautiful. Meant to Heal.
"not what I expected from a bad called Megadeth". My wife said exactly this even when I showed her some of their heavier stuff. Great reaction. I'm not struggling with mental health, but I love your channel for bringing some focus on this issue, and through music I love no less. Even though I'm good where I'm at mentally, your reactions often bring me to tears. Just to share a story, my dad passed away in 89. I was only 4 years old. Losing him didn't really hit me until I was a young teen. I'm 36 now and have made my peace with it. In his short life, he gave me and my mom and brothers a lot. He was a good dude and I like to focus on that instead of what could have been if he was still around.
I can't imagine losing my parents so young. I was 20 and 22. I make it a point to honor them regularly and share their love with the world. Sounds like you do the same.
I know this is the older video and you may not read it but to see you alive and breathing and trying to be cheerful it's a beautiful thing I've tried one time and failed it wasn't meant to be you're beautiful presence is meant to be here thank you for your videos love you
You definitely got this song, and while it's kinda sad, it's also makes one feel good about leaving. Happens for everyone, just have to wait your turn.
Many of Megadeth's songs have great messages in them. Some not. This song is one of the best. Another song, which is different but you have probably heard before, is Peace of Mind off the first Boston album in 1976. I was a kid when it came it. I was introduced to the band through my father, who loved the band Boston. They became one of my favorite bands, who I still listen to today even after becoming a metalhead. In the 80's, after high school, I felt lost at times. I would crank up Boston on cassette and drown out my insecurities. One day while listening to Peace of Mind, something just clicked. At that moment, I decided to live my live, through the song. Don't get hung up on things you can't control, other peoples expectations, etc. Thing's simply did not bother me like before, the Zen of Boston, I call it.
My stepmom passed away in April of last year and this was the song my dad dedicated to her and we played it at her service. I have been struggling with mental health a lot here lately and watching your video has helped me today.
I've listened to this song for years. Sometimes, I listen to a tune purely musically, and I don't pay much attention to the lyrics. I've always loved the musicality of this. I lost my wife a year ago. She was only 53. My life has been empty and difficult since. We met later in life, and I miss her deeply. I loved your analysis of the song, and your notes on grief are spot on. Thank you for sharing. Sometimes it's surprising how songs that you have listened to for ages, suddenly creep up with new meaning. Thank you. ..
Yup, I attempted suicide at 16 years old and got extremely traumatized(in a good way). It might sound cliché, but the moment I acted upon my delusional sorrow, the desire to live triumphed, and I felt like I was reborn. Life is worth living, regardless of the difficulty we might face.

According to Mustaine you nailed your intepretation of those lyrics not being a suicide note. You are spot on!
Yup. I belive he said it's just a song about the last words of a person on their deathbed. Not suicide related.
The suicide interpretation is so weird to me, I never got that from the song.
@@_veikkomies “so as you read this know my friend…” I’m gonna be that guy and say it’s not hard to see why ppl make the connection.

Mustaine is like a visionary. He seen alot of the issues today, 30 years ago. Holy Wars still rings true to this day.
Very true. Check out 'Washington is Next' (2006) he talked about seven years of famine, sabotage people health, keep public undisciplined,
or 'Lying in State' (2016) he mention New Normal, about how will history portray us as country.
Mustaine is half sorcerer. 😁😁🤘🏻🤘🏻
Or... those issues have always been around. Holy Wars is about religious conflict, so it will always ring true.
"monitoring. Our wages, new world order. Comes in stages"
@R. Tell me... Will world war 3 be generic as fuck?
I'm mad that I can only like your comment once..
Growing up in the 80's, many of our churches considered this type of music "satanic". It is a shame that so many people back then hear the guitar and automatically consider it satanic. They really needed to hear the message.
Well, Dave admitted that some songs in the early days were demonic. He stopped playing those songs live a long time ago.
@@ameliaward7429 well damn, dave bent over for the religious nuts. that’s great.
Dave Mustaine is a musical and lyrical genius.
Bravo.

Made my pistons bulge
Made my ball bearing melt from the heat

We were shifting hard when we took off
Put tonight all four on the floor

True that.
Yep, “dead” on!

One of my favorites.👍
Bro Metallica is similar to Megadeth . Dave is more talented than James and Co . The truth is when Cliff died , ideas died with him and Metallica did worst and worst albums .
Come on, better react to a song like Break it Down Again by Tears for Fears
You're spot on, the song isn't about suicide, it's about saying goodbye to the ones you love before you pass away, and how death hurts and affects the ones you leave behind.
I love this song. Megadeth always has real life messages on their songs.
Fine reaction, Amanda... And those of us who follow your and all of ours mental strengthening by sharing our stories to each others will be here 💜 💜
I don't know how he keeps doing it on every song but the first line into Marty's solo is magic. Perfectly captured the mood of the song.

I love this reaction. And yes the hair!! Dave still actually has the hair. And incidentally..I've watched you a few times and read "Metal Amanda". Lol
Mental.
Today you accomplished to make me a bit happier. I really enjoyed to watch this videos and that made those minutes a bit happier for me. Thanks! 😊😍
YAY!!!!!
Big love
You're such a beautiful soul. By far my favorite reacter on here. So glad you are doing well now. Greetings from Finland!
This is probably the best breakdown of this song I’ve seen. Great job! Whatever you’re doing, keep it up! God bless.🍻
Thanks for the reaction!!! great song great channel nice job Amanda !!!keep going the work
Beautiful reaction.
He wrote this when his mom was in the hospital on her death bed........He adamantly says it`s got nothing to do with offing yourself.
I think the song can be interpreted in multiple ways and that's what makes it such a beautiful piece of art
I love this interpretation though because it's such a positive outlook on death and moving on
Also Megadeth is a unit of measurement of death, so it's a measurement used for atomic bombs... the band was very anti-nuclear war so that's why the name!

Oh wow! I thought I didn't see this in your catalogue when I requested in the comments of the "Snuff" reaction. Great and thank you!!
You nailed it! The meaning behind this song is, "if you knew you only had a few moments left in life, what would you say, and to whom?" For Dave, he'd simply say, "I love you"

Mustaine is something else tbh....His riffs..Words, his delivery of the lyrics are just flawless !
I am glad for you that you discovered this masterful, emotional song. It is quite striking to hear your impressions as a survivor. Very cute how you got giddy hearing him sings in French too!

@@silvercloud1641
That's an accurate analogy/comparison (Countdown = AJFA ; Youthanasia = M5/BA), and I'm inclined to agree.
Cheers.
@@BlackieNuff "was not as much of a "transgression" as Metallica's was for me - at least Mustaine & Co did not cut their hair! LOL"
Lols.
@@silvercloud1641
Another good point!
This was a great reaction! I’m glad you’re doing well
I’m a huge megadeth fan, I lost my brother to covid this November. Thankfully today is a up day.🙏
I love you brother, fly high and don’t ever stop. 💙
I can't imagine those who lost loved ones during the pandemic. I am confident that he knew you loved him. I hope you find peace and feel his love.
Hi, cool review of one of my favorite song. You have a beaautiful smile. Take care of yourself.
2 recommendations for you, the first is a topic that I don’t think people realize the gravity of it, & attention brought to it is a good thing
The song is “Wrong side of Heaven” by Five Finger Death Punch.
Greetings from México 🇲🇽
(sorry if I wrote something wrong, my english is a little bit rusted)
Your English is great and I hope to see you around again!
Kix: "Don't Close Your Eyes" is an 80's ballad about suicide.
Es muy apreciable que compartas tu experiencias con canciones así porque hay mucha gente que lo nenecita. Salud bella!
Espero que lo pueda ayudar a otros 💗
I believe that you will find your worth and find ways to share her love with the world 💖
I don't even know you but to see you cry just tears my heart apart
Meant to Heal.
just found out you did a reaction on this song. Makes me happy, makes me smile
It was great watching your reaction to this awesome song, thank you! And btw your French is awesome :)
Merci beaucoup!
Thank you.
..
Please feel free to tell us about her so we can help keep her memory alive 💖
@@MentalAmanda that's so kind.
Thank you for educating us on mental health issues keep up the good work
Yup, I attempted suicide at 16 years old and got extremely traumatized(in a good way).
It might sound cliché, but the moment I acted upon my delusional sorrow, the desire to live triumphed, and I felt like I was reborn.
Life is worth living, regardless of the difficulty we might face.
Metal has always been there for all lost souls. I found it at 13 and cannot recommend enough that you go through your metal journey.
FINALLY!! It is so nice to find a reaction to this and they get the meaning right!!
Please smile, smile when you think about me...🤗 the best way to remember . The love never ends. Thanks dave, we love you.❤👏👏
You have accomplished a lot Amanda never let anyone tell you different
Dave has French ancestry I think. Who would have thought Megadeth would write this beautiful song. Everything he writes is a lyrical masterpiece.
