Dave's voice is a love it or hate it thing. I love it, he's not a singer, he's a performer of his lyrics, he delivers them rather than sings them. No-one sneers and snarls and spits out venom quite like Dave.

My opinion is this: Dave Mustain is essentially the 'Evil/Mirror Universe' version of James Hetfield when it comes to singing.
James Hetfield is OBVIOUSLY the more talented musician (James can play Bass, Lead, Drums, and Piano), while I think Dave Mustain is OBVIOUSLY a better singer.
TRUE, Dave Mustain has a higher-pitched singing voice with both more 'gravel/grit' as well as more forward placement (or 'nasal tonality' I think it's called, but I could be wrong about the term), but at the same time Dave has a MUCH more natural and fluid Vibrato in regular 'singing voice' then James Hetfield EVER had, and it's always been that way even back in the early 80's when Dave Mustain was one of the ORIGINAL members of Metallica (alongside with Ron 'McGooney' McGovney, who was the ORIGINAL Bassist before the Late Cliff Burton joined the band).
Just my own personal opinion anyway.

i randomly came across your channel today, i am very familiar with Megadeth and have seen them several times. This has always been one of my favorite videos and songs of there's. I am a recently recovering alcoholic of 25 years, i am on day 107 of my sobriety. This all came about after 2 tragedies in the last year and a half. I lost my mother at age 71 in Nov of 2021 followed by my sister who was 53 when she passed in March of this year. That was when i knew i had to make a change. I had to think of my brother, my nephew, my son, my 2 grandchildren. There are many more layers to my story leading back to my childhood but that's another story. I enjoyed your breaking down of the video which like i said i have always loved. I have seen this video so many times but watching on your channel was the first time i cried. And when I got CD player few months later, I bought all Metallica albums on CD, and started to wait the black album...which is the last Metallica album I ever bought. And when I started to play guitar, those 5 Metallica albums were the ones I always trained with, and eventually played them thru.

I live most of my life in that space where I'm sitting in the corner kicking myself. It's only momentarily interrupted by others. Depression and anxiety are hard to live with and nobody should blame those who've gotten to the point where they only see one way out. It's not really a choice when you reach that point, it's more a matter of struggling so hard for so long and ultimately losing hope and it has nothing to do with how 'well' people think you're doing in life. What saves me when I reach that point is my love for my son. It may sound strange to some, but there is nothing I will not suffer for him. I know that ending my own life would destroy him and I refuse to be responsible for that. Doesn't mean I don't -want- to do it, it just means that when I reach that point I simply cannot bring myself to do that to my son, so here I am.

this is what Dave Mustaine says about this song:
"I wrote that about myself. It was pointed out to me that I'm kind of schizophrenic and that I live inside my head. Which is something I don't subscribe to, but I enjoyed the theory nonetheless. I think all of us are sweating bullets all the time. Society's a joke right now, and people are getting more and more hostile. When you think about having an evil twin or schizophrenia, I think a lot of us are schizo, because we live inside our heads. There's someone we all confer with; it's called our conscience. Some people cannot control their other side; it takes them over. Everybody has that psychotic side. Everyone has a thing that will make them snap."

-Considered the theme of this channel, I’m surprised that “Skin O’ My Teeth” hasn’t been covered.
-The talk about “You can subdue but never tame” is something that I think I can relate to. My brain is quite overactive. (It’s not really a brag. My ADHD may play a role in it.) If I have a thought, I think about it a lot. For half of my life, I have experienced Seasonal Depression. Near the end of October, all I would think about is “It’s almost November” which is when it starts. As soon as November hits, that’s when everything would fall apart. My brain would go into overtime with not wanting to do anything. At one point, I wanted to just be locked in a room until February because I didn’t want to be around people. That includes friends and family because I didn’t want to bother them.
Last December, I attended the first concert I had been to in, to use a toned down version of the phrase that I borrowed from “Deadpool”” “Damn, I’m old. years. I had become a huge fan of this band since the start of that year and had wanted to see them in March of that year before they had to pull out. In late August, tickets for the American tour went on sale and I got my ticket. After that, I was excited. At times, my thoughts would go from excitement to jokes about how I’ll probably be older than everyone there and that included the band. I’d argue with myself over whether or not this was a good idea. However, I reminded myself that I already bought a ticket.
Come the end of October, I realized it was almost November. However, for the first time in years, there wasn’t the feeling of dread that I’d had for years. I was excited because it was almost December which was something I hadn’t thought for years. I had the greatest night I had had in a long time that saw me get 3 hours of sleep the night before followed by a 3 hour drive from Charleston, SC to Charlotte, NC, a show with four bands that lasted about 4 hours total, and another 3-hour drive that saw me get home at 2:30AM. Afterwards, I was even happier than before. I had subdued my Seasonal Depression last year. However, I understand that I probably haven’t tamed it.

I'd love to Zoom you some time (what sort of patrion level do I need) as I've found a lot of psychologists don't get it. Its like they're reading from a text book and I need someone intelligent that understands and maybe has been through some stuff so they can relate. On December 8 2004, "Dime" and his brother Vinnie Paul were playing a gig in Ohio with their new band Damageplan. A distraught man with a gun got on stage and shot and killed Dimebag. Several others were also killed trying to help Dime. Lets all raise a Black Tooth Grin to the greatest guitarist on the planet and the hero's who tried to save him. RIP Darrell "Dimebag" Abbott

So the title of this song reminds me A LOT of Hollywood Undead's "Bullet" another song about mental health I think you may like! Would highly recommend it if you haven't heard it before
While some of these songs are sad of course.. always good to know that there are those out there willing to talk about it in popular culture. :) Good watch Amanda!

Such a good reaction, Amanda. Your insight is fantastic. Aside from parents and siblings, my darkness is my only comfort. My spouse and adult children either belittle or ignore me. It’s beyond daunting and dispiriting. There is no end……. Solice is as likely as winning lottery tickets. One hour at a time, but when I start praying for the cancer to come back, it’s tough. Your content helps, thank you.

I fondly remember this album. Had a lot of fun learning the drum parts to the entire thing in high school, and the lyrical material through the whole thing is interesting for sure. This was my first taste of Megadeth in the 90s. I remember one of the first things I thought was "Dave Mustaine kinda sounds like the Cryptkeeper from Tales from the Crypt" back then, and I still kinda think that honestly, but I still kept listening. I'd say this is probably the most experimental track on "Countdown to Extinction." RIP to the at the time drummer of the band, Nick Menza. He passed a few years back.

Hey. Don’t give up. There is always hope. Many times that’s all there is. Something that was thrown at me was “ don’t stop 5 minutes before the miracle happens. Personally I’ve been down to the 1 minute mark a few times. There was that one thing, that became everything in that moment. Don’t miss it.

Hindsight is always 20/20 but looking back its still a bit fuzzy……
He sees all the mistakes in life he has made, he knows them to be mistakes, but is still does not understand WHY he did them….. at least that is what this line has always meant to me.
While i an in now way claiming this is the worst thing i have ever done, oddly this is a guilty memory of mine i have never gotten past:
It was 7th or 8th grade and after getting off the bus there is a huge crowd outside of the front door of the school waiting for the doors to open. As i walk through the crowd a class mate that while i wasnt close friends with i was up to this point i was on good terms with started teasing me and mocking me in front of HIS friends. Enraged i grabbed one his books and frisbee tossed it across the square, causing the front cover to tear completely off…… Im sure he got in trouble for it, but i never did…. I can clear remember doing it, remember being mad, remember being instantly sorry, but utterly confused as to WHY it made me so mad….

This is literally my mind currently. Trying to fight it but it is difficult. Of course my counselor basically told me recently that I'm a ticking time bomb at this point so that doesn't help.

    • @MentalAmanda
      @MentalAmanda  Рік тому

I once had a counselor tell me that I would always make the wrong decisions. I clung to that most my life. Here's advice from a navy seal who had been LITERALLY strapped to a bomb: look for the next step or the one small thing that can improve the situation, if even slightly. If you can wiggle your fingers, move the line that's wrapped around you even a little or do one little thing to make the situation better, do that. Then, find the next thing you can do. And the next. That's the only way you will untangle yourself and defuse the bomb. If you panic, you'll losing precious oxygen and flood your brain with stress hormones that will make it impossible to find a rational solution. Use the counselor's logic against them to empower yourself!

Music is literally one of the main things that has kept me sane in my life. I’ve always struggled as far back as I can remember sometime in the mid to late 70s, but it is been my music and specifically metal music that has kept me sane. When you hear songs like this for me anyways it lets me know. I’m not the only one out there. That feels these things that helps keeps me going. This song literally has been my anthem since it came out. I’ve conquered so many demons in my life and I’ll keep doing it til the day I die. Music and my daughters keep me going day by day.
