WOW... I was at this free concert and I clearly remember that all day the sun was shinning until Killing Joke performed.. Dark clouds appeared in the sky... What you don't see is that after the show riots broke out and there were clashes between several motor gangs. Great times! After the show we stole a bike and drove back to Amsterdam on acid... Took us about 6 hours or so :) :) :)
ha yes I was there from Cologne and remember the riots as well. The whole KJ gig through negative tensions raised until they took them gates apart. But do you also remember The Beat playing thereafter? All of a sudden it was all unity and everybody dancing without any security! Great day!

Also in response to the comment you are responding to, Paul got plenty of credit, from all of those who were influenced by early Killing Joke and in turn started drumming, and millions of others as well.
I think Steve Albini and Santiago Durango came pretty close in a few Big Black songs - especially Newman Generator and Fish Fry. But it's pretty obvious they were drawing heavy influence from Geordie!
Killing Joke are without a doubt the best live band on earth. Their gigs are like religious experience. If you don't believe me, go check them out, you won't be disappointed.

Youth was the band's original bassist; he was replaced by Paul Raven after their third album 'Revelations' in '83. He actually went on to become a pretty successful music producer, rejoining the band about a decade later for 'Pandemonium' and 'Democracy'. Raven came back in for their self-titled album in 2003 before Youth rejoined from 2010-present after Paul's death.

Always turned on to the band. Shit hot material. Always do great well produced videos. I've seen a few great live stuff but never transfer their potential to the stage. Awesome though.
Those songs were awesome onstage, they were a better live band than a studio one and they were mighty good.on the latter. Jaz Coleman's energy and exuberance were a nice counter and contrast to the frequent boring lifelessness of the rest of the band.
