- Musician/composer/author/conductor/actor/philosopher Jaz Coleman from the band Killing Joke gives us a tour of his hometown Cheltenham in England.
A short documentary by Top 2000 a gogo from 2021 (Dutch Public Television).
Killing Joke need more credit. They bridge the metal fans and punks together. And Geordie's guitar is spectacular on this.
Yes but also also the Industrial And dub people as well so it grabs a mix of over as i got in to the Dub Remixes And that So i worked Back wards as well So yes

Exactly!
To be fair, Geordie’s Guitar is spectacular on anything!
@@fang_uk There was a YT on identifiable guitar sounds-the usual suspects like Brian May, but not Geordie who’s sound to me is instantly identifiable and unique.
One of the most underrated bands in history
Coleman's mum is adorable!
yeh wish he was nicer to her and not so condescending or dismissive.
@@bluebellbeatnik4945 I sort of assumed his brusqueness was a bit playful. It's hard to imagine anyone being mean to her. She seems sweet.
I genuinely think this is one of the best songs i've ever heard
are you young?
RIP Geordie and Paul -The Raven King. Gone but never forgotten. Such a sublime and important band for me growing up in the Eighties. Push, Struggle... :)
Jaz seems such a wise and funny man who never takes himself too seriously.
A lot of their newer albums are great too but were overlooked by most people.
Killing Joke will always be one of my favorite bands. I was a teenager in the 90's when I was given a cassette tape of theirs. Been a huge fan since. Jaz's laugh is so bombastic and contagious.
Jaz is the real deal. Love his energy.
Jaz is an absolute madman and I’m here for it.
Jaz Coleman has his own hot sauce. Why am I not only not surprised, but feel like this makes perfect sense? 😂
And it's good, too!
I read about this less than 2 minutes ago, and, It sounds like it would be delicious.
You have no idea what impact this track had on me as a teen! Everything was great! Voice, bass, drums the guitar my God it stays a Goldie!!! Love from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 💕 🇬🇧
Love Like Blood-isn't just one of my favs songs from the 80's but in general!
Same for the hit album this song was off of: Night Time-take it you heard album or some of it as was a hit album in the Netherlands!
I love the Netherlands/Holland, been going there since a small kid in the 80's and 2 of my fav Theme/Water Parks there are Efteling + Duinrell! 😁
Last time I went to Holland went stayed in Zaandam + did day trips to Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague + Tilburg before Efteling!
Have you been to the UK before and if so whereabouts?? 🤘🏻
Another one of my fav 80's songs that was a hit in the Dutch singles chart was: "Precious Little Diamond" - Fox the Fox
+ as you prob know was also a hit single in France + Germany!
My dad still got the Cassette single when we was in Germany in Hamburg while on holiday 🕺🏻
@mikey p hi, oh I've many tracks I love still. I'm 49 so I know what I'm talking about when it comes to music. Also I'm a singer but my life went in a different way. Brought up in musicians family but my family sucks. Unfortunately not everyone is blessed in that. I would love to visit UK though I'm brought up with UK music my parents are rilling stones fans and much more. Led zepplin, deep purple. So much to mention. Pull sex pistols later pil. Times are changed badkt but the music stays.
@@charlie-girl72 Hey there, Your 49 you don't look it -not like 49 is old anyway!
I'm 40 and I know what I'm talking about when it comes to music 😁
How comes to your life took a different turn and not in music??
Ah so you haven't visited yet, depending on what part you come from doesn't take that long as you know-what part you from??
I don't like Sex Pistols but I do like PIL stuff!
I'm fro mthe county of Kent-where as you prob know people like Mick Jagger/Keith Richard came from in Dartford, Kate Bush in Welling....etc
I'm between Dartford/Bexleyheath way.
The Cure,Joy Division/New Order,Sisters of Mercy, Depeche Mode etc...
Altijd als ik dit nummer hoor, voel me weer dat 16 jarig jochie in de jaren '80 .
Alhoewel mijn muzikale smaak nu wat breder is, krijg ik er nog steeds kippevel van.
@mikey p I love so many music kinds, indie mostly doesn't matter what style, alternative anyways, pil has great songs too. Punk is to stand for something independent. I guess I'm a punk for life then. I have good genes dear sorry lol 😆
What a track.
What a bloke.
Mrs Coleman you gave birth to a legend, take pride in that fact my dear. This track is part of the soundtrack of my life, I was 17 when it came out and I went from being a fringe Killing Joke fan to a lifelong fan and seen them many times.
What a character! I love his joy for living...
Very true yet back in the 80s at least in Smash Hits magazine they had a reputation for being "nasty" back then according to their words. What happened?
@@jmxtvarchive9064 Smash Hits, huh?
@@jmxtvarchive9064 i think he probably was nasty. really don't like how he spoke to his mum.
Damn Jaz lives a very humble life.
Jazz always rocks my world! I absolutely love the man! God bless him!!!
Growing up in the 80's i love this era of music and you can see why. Killing Joke was no joke.
_are_ no joke.
Jaz Coleman seems like a fun guy. Would be nice to hang out with him for the day.
3:59 Jaz Coleman's classic quote: "That' what mashimi and I think we're saying this idea of beauty. Samurai concept of beauty, it's not like how long you live, but how beautiful". Huh franta. I got on to Killing Joke here in New Zealand when their 5th album 'Night Time' was released in 1985. Side One Track #3 'Love Like Blood' resonated with me like steel to a magnet. I fell head over heels in love with it. Played it over and over. The bass riff is so pulsating like the aorta, vena cava, and pulmonary veins of the human heart beating strong. Thank you Jaz Coleman, Kevin ‘Geordie’ Walker, Paul Raven, and Paul Ferguson, I love you and respect you. ♥💯🙏🤝My amateur sports career spanned 24 years. 14 years able-bodied, and 10 years an amputee athlete. I owned 10 motorcycles during the '80s. I loved riding them in all weathers. If you would like to read a small part of my life story please click here to my Flickr [photo album, 25,000+ pics] webpage - it is a newspaper article featuring myself winning the 1986 Southland Senior Road Cycling Championship when I was 23 - the description tells you my story: www.flickr.com/photos/35707376@N00/51988007800/in/album-72157649716035656/
as a long time cyclist wow- at least you achieved what you could while you could. you didnt waste your time.cheers
@@laszlozoltan5021 Thank you for your kind comment it is greatly appreciated. I've just turned 60 and am still riding a mountain bike [non-electric too].
Been a fan since the early 80s such an underrated band.
my favorite song from my favorite band......Jaz forever
Jazz’s intensity and phenomenally hypnotic enthusiasm has been such a blessing and therapy for me for -holy cow, over 30 years now!
I'm so thankful that Geordie took time out of his GQ modeling career to make all of this amazing music for us. Cheers!
It's so lovely to see Jaz's mum. Every time I see Jaz laughing now, I think of the lyrics "Still laughing after all these years" (Big Buzz).
Such an intelligent and witty guy. And so kind to his mum.
kind??? he basically told her to bugger off. i thought he was rude and condescending to her. very dismissive.
RIP, my old pal Geordie. The best.
Prague
God bless you Jaz
He's such a don. Been predicting the state of things for 40 years through his lyrics.
RIP Geordie, what a star.
Yeah I got the man a pint in Prague 20 odd year ago.do you think they will Carry on without kevin
What an absolute Legend this Man Is! Would love to.spend a day with him , I'd be mesmerized!❤
I knew this band from A Love Like Blood like many others. But every album is worth listening I discovered this year, these guys have an enormous catalogue with a terrific mix of metal, punk, dance. Very underrated!
Saw them again last night in Leeds , as awesome as ever , long live the Joke .
Loved this song. We had this playing every night- 1985/6/7 ? Fantastic!
Jaz is one of my favorite people on Earth.
Much love to you Jaz, last time we met was mid 90's, I was a cabbie who picked you up from Grosvenor Street and delivered you safely to you your parents house 🖤
Amazing song and an amazing band
If I could only listen to one song for the rest of my life this would probably be it. I was in Staples the other day and this song was playing. I was like wtf?…Staples has really up’d their soundtrack game!
Staples?! Holy moly. How surreal.
Der Song hat eine super Energie!
This is a fantastic video. So glad i stumbled on it tonight.
killing joke in general is so so so good
🙏 Namaste to "Top 2000 a gogo"
😇What an WISE Speech ....👌
"It is not how LONG you live
but how BEAUTIFUL ! "
I was playing an MMO a few months back and I said I like Killing Joke. The sad reality is they had no clue and thought I was talking about the character. :( "How do I reach these kids?!!" I had to explain they are an awesome band from England. Wish they were doing a show as we are headed to Paris in September. Bucket list is to see them live, but being in the US doesn't help.
First band I ever saw live. Liverpool Royal Court, 1983. Electrifying.
Ahh 20's! We're living in the 20's!
Don't think so, music always stays true to its roots. Unless American...
(hums the guitar riff ...) :)
Great to see Jaz, he's such an important artist and a great inspiration. Alive and kicking... the man nearly died this last year, didn't he!
Nearly died?! What?
A couple of times actually. The man is made of steel!
@@Emulous79 Yeh, he went into a diabetic coma. The doctors eventually sussed out what it was and he's fine now.
@@countiblis1246 Thank God. Don't want him to die just yet!
@@countiblis1246 the munchies almost got him, huh ?
This was a great feature. Could have watched a full hour like this.
Have loved Killing joke since discovering their music in the 90’s. Love like blood was my introduction although love their harder music as well. Awesome group
What a LEGEND, at his mum's having lunch. Only one Jaz. Can't wait to see the Joke at Bristol.
Wow.This is an underrated channel.
Underrated!? ;-)
I love how the chorus builds up then releases in this song. Really brilliant. Cool video!
The 80's were THE best time to be a growing child. I love all things 80's, the music especially, and A Love Like Blood is hands down, one of THE BEST of the best generation for music. It will forever be one of my top 10 favourite tracks. Thank you Jaz for bringing this light into my life ❤
Love this man.... always have, always will.
There was a very important music magazine in Brazil back in the 80s called BIZZ. "Love Like Blood" was chosen best song of the year by all of the critics in the magazine, never before have we seen such unanimity. No radio stations played this kind of music so it took ages for me to listen to it.
Incredible band and so good live
What a great band. Saw them playing in Las Vegas for the Pandemonium Tour, at the old Huntridge Theatre near downtown. What a memorable show!
1 van de meest spraakmakende nummers van de jaren 80 , prachtige rif in het nr ...
Live klinkt het nog steeds top zag ik laatst op YT hij treed nog steeds op 😃
i love this band and this is awesome
The drummer was awesome on this track..
This and we don't get fooled.. are my two faves. There's something magical and other worldly about the Hammond bit in the who song and the wavering synth in the killing joke song that trigger something
One of the most important bands of all time.
A maior banda de todos os tempos!!!
god bless this beatiful man! long life Killing Joke
Great band!! Alotta memories!!
Great song, I remember this was very big in New Zealand when it came out in ‘85.
I know that Jaz Coleman lived or may in fact still live on a small island in New Zealand also.
my favourite dance track in the 80's
Much love from Arizona
Killing Joke are legends!
🤘🏻
Het begin is geniaal.
Geordie rip killing joke legend
I love that song, but i was hoping something might be mentioned regarding the music video which I find so unique with what looks to be a reference to the Spanish civil war
One of the greatest song intros there's been.
Love Jaz. Saw KJ open for Tool a couple of years ago. Great show
Should be the other way around..
Really cool seeing this thankyou.
See you on Saturday.
Honour the Fire ❤
Geweldige band live helemaal
I don’t know a rockstar that’s as accessible and at the same time as important to musical history as Jaz Coleman.
Gawd....I used to play in a band with a guy who ONLY wore black and ALWAYS wore sunglasses. His ego filled every room he entered. Gotta be tough being a rockstar while your cooking breakfast and stacking the dishes.
yeh it's just annoying and unnecessary
Well, thanks for this video… I learned SO MUCH about the story (inspiration and creation) behind the song… (That’s sarcasm, in case I was too subtle…)
CULTISSIMO
This band is legend
What a Legend! 🙏🏼🫡
I went to one of the record stores in Enschede to trade my Green Day album (revolution radio) for a different record. So I went looking for Night Time at the "K" label in the boxes, and first I found a couple of other KJ albums but I was so happy to found out they had Night Time available as well. It's a new print vinyl but I'm not one of the true old skool vintage records collector, so its fine for me.
Wow. Just wow.
Off to see them in Glasgow tomorrow 😁
What a top bloke!
This is so freaking killer!!!
LEGEND
What better way to show others what a fiery hoop feels like than to sell your own chilli sauce 👌
So cool
I heard this on BBC radio 2s Friday evening 80s show about a month ago. It went down well with the Captain of the show, Gary Davies. Moreover, it went down well with me too. As said, a crossover hit. That guitar chugging really does the business to cut through the fluff of so much flaccid, eighties fluff.
I love you Killing Joke 😊❤
Legend!!
I listen to this album on repeat ALL the time 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 It is that good and I found out about them late and was like how the FUCK did I miss this??
A nondescript 1960s english style bungalow c/w trellis at the entrance , slightly cluttered cosy front room with its cheerful elderly owner who’ve both seen better days , Cash in the Attic on the tv - kitchen over 30 years but still perfectly functional & of course Jaz Coleman at the kitchen table …..😳🏴❤️
This is timely. I've been listening to KJ a lot recently. I never realised he had so many jobs.
That song as a whole yeah but the intro one of the best ever
Come to Finland. Period. Love your laugh!
He's got a bit of Tommy Cooper going on too.
spoo jar hahahaahah
Tommy Cooper Clarke.
I love this band
..my new favorite next to nirvana....
Awesome
Felt somewhat betrayed as a kid when they started sounding like an 80's pop band. It made them money, but I was much more into their tribalistic, dissonant, punky sounds. Luckily they came back to this sound when the rave scene kicked in, which was a weird combination, but it worked!
I'm not sure why I like Jazz. He's insane, abusive and narcissistic, but he's genuine and never ceases to surprise us.
Title - "The Story Behind The Song". What happened ?
I was wondering the same thing. Kind of dull.
You’re absolutely right. Great to see the madman expose all sorts of theories but the vid doesn’t tell you anything whatsoever about this legendary song. What a shame.
Ahead of it's time. 4 years later all the indie bands wanted a rhythm section like this.
