I love this style of reef keeping trying to stop using all those products for dosing and instead create an ecosystem within our aquariums. I love the look of algae gorgonians and coral. I also see big reef tanks with sps corals needing to does nitrate and phosphate because their corals take those elements out of the water to grow. I’m trying to experiment with not using a filter and letting algae and coral do the filtering

The pursuit of perfectionism makes people quit the hobby, both freshwater and salt!

@@EverydayAquarist I completely agree and people mock you and hold prejudice towards you if they see a speck of cyano or hair, algae look, the ocean is not perfect. Stop trying to make your aquarium this perfect thing because in reality it’s not like that and your tank will have phases and you just need to accept that if you wanna have a long-term aquarium.

I would be proud to have a tank like this, it shows how far the hobby has come , i go back to days with under gravel filters and tube lighting , powerheads were the new kids on the block., so many times you see this is bad for the tank or you need this product , as you righty point out its balance and how you manage it, as with any hobby you only get out best from it with time and patience , ps thanks for the great vid as per usual.

    I agree with you.
The only thing that I would probably avoid putting in a Reef Aquarium is putting in Lava rock.
Some algae are nice and good for the Aquarium. It also makes the Aquarium look more natural, and the Fish and Shrimps like to eat the Algae.
    Great video, Sir. 👍🏼🙂👍🏼❤️

My tangs LOVE hair algae, all algae really... can't keep enough they graze all day long. I have to keep a health refugium to keep them happy.

    What? That's perfect success 😂
Even i got since day one macroalgae, corals, and fish. Some dose of anaerobic bacteria on the substrate, and it's just becoming like forever tank for now on until forever.
I love macroalgae, corals, fish, all the ecosystem ❤

My marine tank was failing for the past 4 years. I kept losing corals. I found father fish so i put fresh salt water from the ocean into my reef tank and seaweed and rocks. All the seaweed died but coraline algea took off. Then i brought macro algea. We just went through a 4 day power cut and the tank went down to 18 degrees.( The lowest the sticker on the side would go so maybe lower) i lost 1 yellow clown govy. All others survived. In fact my zoas thrived. I had some shrinkage on a mushroom coral but thats fine they are coming back. I think the bacteria made the corals/ fish stronger. Its only 13.5 but receieved no o2 or heat in 4 days. I recommend anyone setting up a small tank and trying it out. I'm going to expand my theory onto a larger tank now. Thanks for this content brilliant!!!! and check out "Father Fish" to!

This is one of my favorite tanks on yt, absolutely gorgeous. :)
What/How much do you dose in this tank?

    • @EverydayAquarist
      @EverydayAquarist  5 місяців тому +1

Thank you. I dose absolutly nothing. If you follow the updates on this tank you will see that i added lava rock which is leeching nutrients i think

Is nice and healthy. Though only tip what is important is about 5 cm or more sandbed. To trap nutrients so dont make the water go bad to easly. Is a nice way to slow down the process of nutrients that naturally generate. I am currently having brown macroalgea to randomly grow and show up in my tank and red.

I was inspired by this tank early on and committed to saltwater with a similar goal. Made a ton of mistakes in the process though
How are the nitrates in a heavy bioload tank like this? And are some inverts/corals/macroalgae worth looking into if someone is going for a similar approach but has some herbivore fish like tangs and a Foxface?
I have red gracilia, gorgonians, a large turbinaria pagoda cup coral, and some other stuff here and there along with as much bioload management media and equipment and tried to at least use a bit more robust and slightly oversized protein skimmer.

All to their own I see your tank as one big pest tank not going to lie even down to your corals your advice is good for you but not for all.. 0 nutrients is bad for any reef tank I ruin high nutrient but don’t have algae problems because my tank has a complete biome

Don't think people consider it a failure it just looks ugly and takes up real estate for corals .
