Your channel has really inspired me to get back into comic books after a 20 year hiatus. 🙌This is one of the stories I have been looking at but haven’t gotten around to
Honestly it was this story that got me hooked to your channel a few years ago when you posted this in 2 videos separately, been a subscriber ever since
I love how Namor doing this stains black panther and Namors relationship for ever. It builds such a great story of kings and not superheros, And explored what it means to rule,
It’s the little things for me when it comes to Ryan Cooglers ability to direct a film. The fact that Namor flies akin to a hummingbird because of the hummingbirds prominence in Central American religion and ideology is just phenomenal.
That movie was completely ruined by shuri being the Black Panther. Could have been awesome but if they weren't going to recast tchalla which I respect that decision but there's no reason to continue the Black Panther movies without the real black panther. That's more disrespectful than just recasting him
Absolutely love that Rob is such an unbreakable street level hero of the people that he would use his fraction of the pheonix to not worry about price at best buy
I am only 15 minutes into the video and I don't know if you're going to cover it but there is I think it was a standalone issue where the second half of the comic book was basically Cyclops talking about having the Phoenix force be a part of him and he goes to the moon and everything the art is amazing and it is one of my favorite X-Men stories ever
Shoutout to Mr. Editor for being like us in that we only know facts about the HALO Jump from Metal Gear Solid. Excellent work, Editor. Age hasn't slowed you down one bit. And this story taught us 2 very important things: Cyclops can hold onto a grudge for months. Black Panther can hold onto a grudge for _years._
The only thing I don’t like about the story is that it writes cyclops well but just makes him the bad guy in the end because they realized he was right. The avengers DO stop the mutants from thriving, and cyclops was not wrong ONCE in this story until they started turning Scott mad from power
I feel like the ending was pretty nice. It was a story of Wanda having a part in pushing the mutants to desperation and Hope having the power to wield both Phoenix and Wanda's powers. Phoenix 5 cyclops touched Wanda and burned as seen in one of the panels showing a potential polarity in power. I feel like, in nature of K'un Lun, Hope and Wanda are Yin and Yang and the resistance of Chaos Magic to the Phoenix force and both their reality warping powers, it was expelled. I'd say it's the start of Wanda's redemption but you failed to show it as that because we focused on the potential parallel of this Namor and MCU's upcoming Namor. I get it, but it's really necessary to put into perspective her role in this story as like this Avatar: the Last Airbender Aang and Zuko arcs with Aang being Hope (I mean, she's kind of an Avatar wielding all these powers) and Wanda being Zuko (villain going through redemption).
Except Wanda didn’t expel the Phoenix Force, Hope did. It’s shown in another comic panel. Also, you can read Wanda telling Hope that only *she* has the power to let it go, clearly Wanda meant that she couldn’t do it for her.
@@kydwykyd yea because wanda is incapable of wielding phoenix. I know it's a stretch but phoenix 5 cyclops touching wanda and there's an opposing force that burns cyclops and lets her walk away without a fight. I saw this as the key to ultimately defeating the phoenix but everyone was so focused on hope. Wanda had a hand in it too because without her I doubt hope could have expelled phoenix with the power of... phoenix. Hope is very powerful but she needed the right type of power to copy to fulfill the feat. Yea ofc Wanda can't do it for her bcz the phoenix force is a multiversal entity BUT my point in my comment was that it's unfair to call this story bad when Wanda's redemption arc simultaneous to Hope's discovery of her power is amazing to me and how it wrapped up in the end. They used Strange's illusions with Wanda's mere presence to intimidate the Phoenix 5. She was the only one they feared.
No flares on a HALO jump. That's for skydiving demos, it's pretty and it let's us spectators see them clearly, the exact opposite of what would be wanted in a combat jump.
At the time I bought all of the different types of Avengers vs X-Men. It was a good series of comics and side stories. Plus some of them had blank covers which was cool.
Was looking for and failing to find a Beyond Omega level or character explained video for the main man and somehow you haven't done a video for Lobo yet?! What madness is this?
Phoenix is the sum psionic power of every living thing in this universe. It's power set was explained in that Marvel comics characters encyclopedia comics series thing (I don't recall the actual name of the thing...but they printed them once every few years or so) back in the lat 80's early 90's
See I always saw Hope wearing the white costume to mean this was Jean as WPOTC working through Hope to fix the world that was broken by returning mutants, the fact that it was only for a few moments meant that Jean as WPOTC left as the work was done.
I enjoyed listening to your rendition of this storyline. The only thing I noticed you got wrong (and other people commenting) is Wanda expelling the Phoenix from Hope. Wanda clearly tells Hope in AvX that only she (Hope) has the power to let it go. It’s also shown in another comic where the cuckoo sisters who are witnessing this fight from cerebral explain that “Hope did it. She saved us. She saved the whole world. She dissipated the Phoenix. She broke it apart and sent it into the…omg look…new mutants.” I feel this is important to take note because even when Wanda used all her power against Scott who has 1/2 of the Phoenix Five power, she “couldn’t phase him with all she had”. So clearly she isn’t strong enough to expel the host from someone. Also, I believe it was Jean Grey who telepathically calmed Scott Dark Phoenix down and told him to let go as well. She is in the white hot room where he tried to visit when he obtained the power of the Phoenix and she rejected him and sent him back to Earth. Jean has been the only person on comic panel literally pulling/taking the Phoenix Force out of other hosts (Emma Frost/Rachel Summers). Even through space time in another universe when she called it from Rachel.
@@cosmicentity1077 lol, I don’t mind ignorant stans, I expect it from them. However, I did expect Rob to know better when explaining the story. Granted he probably didn’t read the comics I did that explained what was going on in AvX in more detail.
One thing I recently learned is there has been tensions between Atlantis and Wakanda before AvX, like the time the Hulk jumped from Atlantis and Wakanda launched a retaliation missile at Atlantis
It would be interesting if the mcu introduced mutants into the world by Wanda doing a reverse of house of m. She gets overwhelmed at how everyone she’s using as shields or pawns keeps failing, so she says fine, I need more powerful pawns, more mutants. And a bunch of people across earth gain a mutant gene.
Hope turns into the White Phoenix, not the crown version. There's only one White Phoenix of the Crown, and that's Jean Grey watching from the White Hot Room. The Crown in White Phoenix of the Crown is still unknown but it was mentioned in Hulk where he meets the One Below All. I personally think that the Crown is the White Hot Room, The White Phoenix of the Crown controls the very existence and timeline of the Marvel Multiverse.
40:53 that's actually Jean Grey as WPOTC, she's interfered. Jean has been in AvX talking to Scott as Dark Phoenix. Jean as WPOTC, has taken many fraction of the Phoenix, she takes out the Phoenix of Rachel, The Frost/Cuckos, and Scott.
I made a similar comment along with Hope being the one who expelled the Phoenix out of her, not Wanda. There is a comic panel which the cuckoos clearly say it was Hope who did it and saved the world and restored mutants.
@@kydwykydsame! this is what i always say to all wanda stans who think their fave is the one who banished the Phoenix.
