I found this really interesting! I'm not huge on cinematography myself. Don't get me wrong, if I could do it I would, but I don't have the proper equipment or the money for proper equipment. All I have is one of those cheap tourist cameras that you can get at the convenience store. Also I lack in creative juices, but we'll skip over that. But this has definitely been super intriguing!
Putting that aside, I have some friends who are really into cinematography and cameras and whatnot, so I'll be directing them to this for sure! Thank you!

If you want to get into cinematography, just do it, even though you don't have the equipment. I made my first films with my old phone (360 p I believe) but it was so much fun and I learnt a lot. Also, using cheap tourist cameras could give a very nice effect on the film, depending on the story you're telling :)

Concise, really understandable for a profane like me; like I never heard most of the technical terms until now but I understood what they stand for. Now I know I have to research these terms to understand them in-depth and what they imply when filming, and I already have pointers for a first camera from someone whose filming I love. The most experience I have is just casual pictures and setting up school year books over the years, different small events for friends and stuff. The cameras I currently use, a Nikon and a Canon (cant remember the numbers, not really important). Fantastic cameras but fairly old. Definitely gonna have to take some of this into consideration when I inevitably have to replace them.

6:52 As someone with a 144hz monitor, the framerate of video is something I wish more film media took seriously; it's not just about slowmo. I'm sick of looking at 24/30fps content from film, 48 is better but it's still sub 60. Even 60fps is flickery to me when there's a lot of rapid movement... A video like this is fine with 24/30fps, but I would LOVE to see a film shot in 120/144fps. Hell, I wish UA-cam would hurry up and support 120fps video, since most flagship PHONES now can support 960fps recording! I agree about resolution as well. Old reel film cameras didn't have a set resolution, but the actual quality of film was damn near unbeatable until only recently.

Great info! You touched on this a little, but I don’t think it got its own category. That’s usability. Most of the consumer/prosumer level cameras can be operated by a single op, but many of the higher end stuff need rigged up and typically require a team of at least 2 people. If you are a single op then you are probably topping off at a red as the ceiling.

Overall I agree with your conclusions but I think you forgot about two or maybe three things on this list. First, and I think most important, is determining what you are going to use the camera for. Is this going to be something you use for both stills and video, or just video? What kind of environment are you going to use it in? What is the lighting like in that environment? Do you shoot handheld and need stability control or can you get away with using a tripod most of the time?
I used to do a lot of boxing videos and gyms are notoriously poorly lit. However, because it is sport, an athlete's ability to see is kind of important, and I tended to do more candid photography: I couldn't just flood them with lighting. As such, I needed something that was reasonably compact and portable, could capture both stills and video, and offered decent low light capability relative to price/size. For me and that specific application the Panasonic GH5 with speed booster and Sigma 18-35 was a really good combo. I could shoot in essentially raw, boot up was quick, battery life was good, and it was easily totable. Whether I was shooting in the gym or China, it made a really good companion for my needs and shooting style. However, if you need a fast autofocusing system (especially if you are using a speedbooster), a full frame sensor, or something that has more video specific features... it isn't a great fit.
Same goes with the GH5S with regards to stabilized video. It wouldn't work for me because I was always getting in and out of the ring, and moving around trying to stay at my preset focal length since the autofocus on those systems was not that great.
Second and possibly third thing is a combo of sorts: community support. The more expensive a camera is the smaller the community is going to be typically. Want preconfigured LUT profiles to work with or tutorials? You are going to have better luck if you choose hardware that has a strong community behind it. (Especially when it comes to finding free or low cost options.) Same goes for accessories. Larger the market, the easier it will be to find things and that typically translates to lower costs; especially as it often means you can buy used or older compatible options. Whether they be accessories, software, or something else, that will help you get the most out of the hardware you have.
This is especially goes with lens options. Having adapters and the like can really help you make the most of a camera system and do so in a more economical way. Admittedly, maybe that goes under your connector categories, but I think it deserves more of a direct mention since some things like lenses can be adapted and hugely influences the final quality and cost.
Perhaps that is outside of the scope of what you were intending with this video; as I think you were talking about video specific options. However, if someone came to me with that same question, I would include those as points along with the items you mentioned. That said, great list and really interesting to see your view on this kind of thing given you do approach this question from more of cinematographer's perspective.

I don’t know a lot about cameras and filming, I just have a camera I like to use for some pictures every so often. It’s pretty good and I’m happy with it but when I try to take pictures of things like the the moon or the stars, it’s very blurry and just looks like a white dot.
I’ve noticed a few things that improves it like holding the camera really still or taking them in daylight, but it’s never very clear.
I use a 75-300mm lens and I’m not sure if it’s a camera problem or just a lens problem
If anyone knows anything about this please just let me know it’s probably pretty obvious I just don’t know a lot about these things

For recording my bag work I shoot in HD but then I have to downsize to like 800*480 anyway just to upload in any meaningful time frame. My internet is terrible! I'd love to shoot in 120FPS though and really nail whether my technique is good or not, but the shots I'm getting are enough of a starting point since I'm not turning pro or anything anytime soon.

Do you use any DJI cameras, like the Ronan series? Do you ever use drones for your videos, and if you do, what drones do you use?
