    I rent vehicles a couple times of month for extended trips. Have used Ford Fusions and Hyundai Sonatas mostly. The Sonata Sport has been my favourite so far. My last trip was with the Maxima SV. I was totally impressed. It was incredibly comfortable with no back fatigue and felt very sporty. I had not paid much attention to Nissan before but this one got mine. I definitely have this on the new car radar now.

      Yeah true. Who knows nissan might put an 6MT option but i doubt the ones in the US market will grab one or invest to make at least 7spd twin clutch for some of their cars, n their sportscars lineup need more oomph (please make a new Silvia for global market, Nissan!!). Still CVTs work wonders for daily driving n smooth although not as responsive or sensational as a geared auto.

      @thatinformativeguy 3 роки тому +3

      Okay it has a CVT. A smooth transmission that you can’t feel shift that stays in its power band better than a naturally aspirated V6 with a regular automatic transmission. The car costed $38,000 when it was new, it’s worth barely $20,000 now, it has 300 hp, sport tuned suspension and a sport exhaust which comes on all trims. The SR is still a 4DSC. The Platinum is an entry level luxury car. I’ll be so glad when people stop whining about the damn CVT.😂

    MSRP price of 42000 I picked this one up for 38,000 plus I got them to throw in an extended warranty 100,000 miles bumper to bumper. there's plenty of room for negotiation on these cars, so if you plan on getting one, wheel and deal.

    No reviewer ever talks about its chassis, which is one of it's biggest advantages in its class, even beyond. Someone I know has a 2007 Maxima, and collided into a Honda something at about 55 mph, and the Honda was destroyed completely from the back, while on Maxima, the damage didn't come through the bumper. Nothing against them, but I have seen Toyotas and such losing all the way to their radiators in such collision, but Nissan especially Maxima etc. makes quite strong chassis.

    4DSC on this to me stands for it being able to do both fun and daily comfort.
    If you want more hardcore 4 door sportscar, then get Infiniti Q50 Redsport. But then you get less refined ride quality compared to Maxima. Also its more expensive.
    The cvt adds to the daily drive comfort (slushmatic, ultra low revs). The paddle shift manual mode is for use on corners/mountain roads, not for straight line/highways.
    That is how to have fun in this thing. Relaxingly fun is how I would put it.

    • @BeesonsCars

      Had a 2018 Maxima S as a loaner and kinda fell in love with it. It’s a complete blast to drive and I love the handling characteristics and styling. But the CVT is what stopped me from buying one after. It’s great and smooth as can be around town, but it’s just so laggy off the line. The lack of an LSD is also really bad on this car because it torque steers very bad. In day to day driving even a quick 1/4 throttle from a stop will peel out the tires with traction on. It was damn near impossible to take off quickly without chirping the tires. It’s not like it had skinny tires either, they were 245s. This with an LSD, an 8 Speed auto (with close ratios, unlike Toyota’s) and maybe the option of AWD would make it an absolute 4DSC. They have the driving and handling characteristics down pat, just a new trans and it’s golden. The interior is much nicer (imo) than the 2018 Q50 3.0T Luxe I test drove the other day. The max has CarPlay, Android Auto, built in navigation, a larger instrument cluster display, and a MUCH better standard audio system. This is comparing base to base inside. Only thing the Q had was fake leather seats vs cloth on the Maxima. But neither were heated so it wasn’t a big deal. Also the Maxima steering wheel is much better.

    Was their test driver trying to "simulate" shifts with the CVT for their acceleration test?! Just leave it in drive for goodness sake if you want the fastest time the car has to offer. You're just slowing down the transmission at that point. I think it's dumb for car manufacturers to put paddle shifters on CVT vehicles.
    I recently had a rental with a CVT and I really enjoyed it. It always felt like the car was in the right gear and it was very smooth. When I got my car back with it's typical 6 speed auto it felt so old and clunky. Where I really missed the CVT is when you needed just a little bit more power to accelerate or climb a hill and you were right on the edge of the transmission downshifting.

    had one.,. after 30,000 miles things start rattling ( the dash the exhaust) , the collision warning doesnt work , but its always beeping .,if you get one used , make sure it has an SD card , the workers at the car lots steal the sd card and sell em on ebay for 200 bux. Going to the dealer for a replacement sd could cost 500 bux, assuming they can find one that works since theyre synced to the vin number. Only 2 positives for this car are looks , and seat comfort. The front and back seats are top notch.,

    Nissan did a fantastic job with this car but they have to get rid of that transmission and maybe give it a better fwd system. It has the potential to be a fast car but that CVT reigns-in the engine's full power at speeds below 85 mph. Making fast 0-60 runs almost impossible. I feel that if they will stick there neck out and give at least an option for a 6 speed automatic gas mileage and sales would increase dramatically. I'm not running the cvt's down but The motor is at a strain bc it has no gears, just a belt, it's basically like a golf cart. But I like the feel of a car changing gears. I have a 2001 maxima GLE 4sp auto vq30. Couldn't ask for a better car.

    The Maxima's are cheaper now. I love the 8th generation it's best ever has everything for the buck. I wud go with the Platinum it's a great looking car. Many said this car is ugly but looks better to me as the old gen started too show its aged. The Maxima is beautiful, luxurious and might earn a better value.

    Take a look at a Charger Scatpack for the same price. Better in every way. Better handling. Better interior with more room. More advanced electronics. A real 8 speed auto trans coupled to a 485 HP MDS Hemi. Rear drive. 4.1sec to 60 and 12.3 quarter while getting 25 MPG cruising. Nissan needs to get with the program!

    The best Maximas were the 4th and 5th generation. Years 1995-2003. The CVT is an abomination. The 4th and 5th gen Maximas were available with a manual transmission, making them much more of a drivers car.

    leaving this on a few videos just as a heads up.2017 maxima platinum 600 miles on it.cvt overheats and goes into failsafe after 45 minutes in canyon .happens like clockwork 3 days in a row.doesnt happen on cold mornings only on 70 degree plus afternoons.not happy wish i got something else.worst transmission to pair with "sports"cars.for context im not biased.i actually like everything about the new design except the transmission and body roll.its comfortable(my car is platinum with diamond stitch leather) and entertaining (bose system is good).just very disappointed my car gets stuck in fourth gear range(has no gears,i know) and even manually will not downshift out of fourth.when i finally do get it to downshift it will feel as if still in fourth but reads as second gear.what that means is it takes forever to get up to 60...very disappointed ,dont they test these things? add a cooler if youre going with such a junk transmission.or how about a geared transmission...just feed back from a owner that liked nissan.
