What a great vid, in so many ways. Hits close Afie. My Dad played an early 60s J45 or maybe a J50; it has always been the sound against which all other guitars are judged, for me. He played for us growing up, and passed the guitar on to my bro for his 16th birthday. Such love. Keep the tradition alive.
I doubt I could make it sound that good.. absolutely waxy licks laid down effortlessly. Much love from GA, USA. I’ve seen you live 3 times - the first show in Nashville in a small venue and again at the war memorial auditorium with City and Colour. That was many years ago and to this day I haven’t heard a tone so crisp and genuine that you and your bandmates bring. I will have a special place for your music in my heart, brother. Merry Christmas!
With your humble Canadian mannerisms nobody would think you're bragging! More please these are great, and that was a friggin' adorable moment at the end there
That is a fine guitar and being proud of it isn't a problem. Every guitar has a story that is half of what a good guitar is, its story. Love it that you are telling its story. The children being present shows that family aspect of music and perhaps the passing of the guitar at a much later date. All the best to you and your family!
Lol! The breakaway into song for your kids was hilarious and in complete contrast to the serious tone of the guitar review. Loved the video dude, subscribing
I own a script only j45 from 46 or 47. I’m very humbled to have a piece of history. There really is no comparison when playing a newer one. Nice guitar you have there. We are very lucky. From Vancouver island
Very cool! Love a j45, I've owned a few & will never not own one. I've never owned a true vintage one like this due to obvious financial reasons... one day. Awesome bit with the girls at the end! So wholesome & fun!
The Gibsons have what I call the “ front porch sound”. It’s fantastic 👍🏻. I keep a Martin HD28 and a Gibson around. If I’m just gonna sit in the porch and pick I usually grab the Gibson. It’s a mood setter. If people want to be wowed by complex tones and sounds I grab the Martin.
cool. i have a gibson gospel...bought it from Jim Croce’s nephew ... i met you afie in nyc and gave you a beaded indian niagara falls belt. and like a dork, i said i liked “lost in the light”. oh well. aloha to you and yer fam.
Its always nice to have history on a guitar. I wonder if the daughter played, if not it could have sat for years, and you would have to play it to reopen it again? Inflation calculator & in 1948 $114 cost would be $1,415 us dollars today (don't know about Canadian dollars) but gives an idea.
Great guitar and wonderful legacy with the photos etc. I would also be proud to own it. I agree, Gibson's feel a lot different to Martins, they become part of oneself, hard to describe. It's not always about tone, and although tone is integral, it's ain't always critical. Especially when tone seems to vary from day to day. The J45 is a workman-like tool like a good carpenter's plane, quality and feel one can love and rely on. BTW. Is that cabinet where you store your guitar a humidity controlled thing? If so, I totally get that.
Considering the dues you've paid, it ain't bragging to show your most cherished tools of the trade, you've worked damn hard for. As a poor(financially for sure, skill level, depends who I ask! lol) guitar player myself, of course I'm envious, but in a good way, and happy you get to enjoy, play, and act as a caretaker for these fine instruments.
Just looked up what $114 in 1948 is worth now. It's $1252. How many J-45 sunbursts would Gibson sell if they were still the same price now? I'd own more than one, that's for sure. Love these vids, you big sad hunk, you.
Amigo, that's not bragging...that's admiring and having pride in the tools of your trade. Please keep these episodes coming.
No brags, we wanna know!! I’m so happy these amazing instruments are being cared for by someone who plays them so beautifully.
I can now die in peace. I’ve heard cyndi lauper on a 1948 j45.

Thank you, you do a great music, and this guitar has to be with you. So easy is it.
Love it. You're the man, Afie.
A video series on his guitar collection would be nice af! I think most of his fans are also guitar players and would like content like that.
Wonderful Gibson and terrific story. Thank you for sharing.

This makes me so happy to watch. Guitars, family, fun!
Beautiful!
Thank you for sharing your 45. As a Papaw in a home full of females, I know your joy!
Could listen to you talk about stuff for days .. cheers from Western Australia. 👍🏻✌🏻💜🎵🎶
People that watched this video are happy for you!
It’s not bragging to share appreciation for a special guitar brother! Enjoy

The humble family guy is almost the best bit about this dude. Inspiring dads the world over.

This is really a gift. Thanks for sharing. Loved your solo show in Minneapolis!
Lovely guitar and very nice playing

Keep these going. Love the stories. Maybe say what song you wrote on those guitars, or what songs they are meant for.

Thank you for this Afie.
This is so wholesome and I love it.
Very cool. Mine is a ‘46 script logo. I got mine from the original owners son. Hard to imagine a more resonant guitar.
Love this
When you're standing on that carpet while wearing those slippers, and you look down, do you ever panic.. just for a second?
Love it!
Sounds great.👍🇨🇦
Perfect!!
Jussi-sukat! Also, sweet J-45!
That was amazing.
This is great content... Thanks
Thanks man!
I wanted to hear more about why you haven't changed the strings
It would change the mojo.
Wow, I loved this. Lol, girls, you like music? Then you start at the highest note ever, which was awesome.
Nice subtle Dougie P riff :)
I imagined you cooked french toast for the girls!💚

What happened to Afie’s torso? I can’t see it
cool.

Afieeeee, make a song with Doug Paisley!!!!! That would be sooo cooooool.

Not to brag ..ha! You have 2 yeti mugs ? 2!. Might as well of layed out stacks of cash ...sheeesh ! Huge flex . Nice guitar and back story as well lol
Hello, this is amazing tone-- what kind of pick are you using?

Great Doug Paisley tune! Hope he’s ok and working on new stuff.
Is that the little tune he plays in the beginning of this video? If so, what song is that?
What songs have you recorded it on?
cute children
Years back I had a 1950 in same shape. Should of kept it. I’d take a 1948 J-45 like yours over same year Martin D-18🇺🇸
We won’t fight then. I’ll take the D18 😊
Awesome! What song is that at 3:55?
Broken In Two by Doug Paisley
@@jeffzelevansky thank you!
I’m the guy with the nicer J45. I have a 51 that is fantastic.
Sounds dead you need change the strings 😊
If you hear a Martin sound better then this Gibson J45 you are going deaf
You haven’t been in the room with a prewar Martin then.
