Jeremy - After seeing this video I kept my eyes out for this guitar. They just had one in my local guitar shop and I bought it. I was blown away by the beautiful tone. Thanks for opening my eyes and helping me add to my collection. I am a Martin guy but this J45 tv really rounds out my collection.

    Jeremy,
Generally I’m a Martin man when it comes to dreadnaughts/jumbos. However I agree with you concerning the thump of a J-45, there is something magical to it especially playing it without a pick. The J-35’s have this special thump as well.
    Happy New Year!

I love love love J45’s! Being 60 years old now, they exemplify the 1960’s Folk scene sound & bring back a lot of great memories. That Bass with the OOMPH - you can’t duplicate that. Get r fixed up, and can’t wait to see it later. BTW - I have a Gibson HP415W that I just love to death. Walnut back & sides. Spruce top. Cutaway with electronics. Easy playing. Great guitar.

Congrats! I have the 2020 J-45 1942 with the baked top, maybe a different neck than yours too...the mids and bass are definitely more pronounced on my J45 when compared to my Collings OM and my Martin 000 GE. They all sound and feel completely different. All in all the J-45 compliments my other to guitars well and is definitely a longterm keeper. I think the higher end J-45's are extremely underrated.

While the undisclosed stuff is a shock and an easy way to feel buyer's remorse, it is a great guitar at that price. Great job! I recently bought a J45 Brad Paisley. My dream acoustic. Adirondak top. Open back tuners. Triple binding. Don't know anything about brad paisley, but to me it is like Townes Van Zandt's Cherry J45 from Heartworn Highways

Yes. Gibson now makes Historic and original as well as their current line. I have played one of the 2018/19 banner Gibson J45s (thermally aged red spruce top with mahogany) an it sounds great. My preference would be the Historic Collection 1942 Southern Jumbo, one of the few years Gibson put Rosewood on the back and sides of an Adirondack top Southern Jumbo (as shown at 2020 NAMM). Thanks

I am glad it worked out. But buying used is annoying when you're confronted with issues.
Glad yours were fixable and the scratches seem to be accepted as mojo.
That said, I am happy with my Eastman e10ss with the new Boucher Truetone finish. I had a nitro e10ss with block inlays, but it never opened up properly and I traded it. The new one is a beast and my ss needs have been met. Went from RW board and bridge to ebony. Sweet. Using Daddario XS PB strings and they have warmed up nicely. Hope to try Pearse PB soon.

Hey man, congrats. I have only two acoustic guitars and feel as though my bases are pretty well covered, a 2011 Gibson J-45 TV and my 2019 Guild M20, both purchased brand new and both bring me immeasurable joy and happiness.
BTW, the TVs also use hide glue construction in case you didn't already know that. Some of the early ones, like mine, recieved Madagascar rosewood fingerboards/bridges as well, rather than common Indian rosewood. Mine plays like a dream, super lush grand piano like tonality dripping in complex harmonics/overtones, and with cannon-like volume, bark and thump when played hard. These adi top J-45s really open up as the years go by, mine is10+ years old and it just keeps getting better. $2100 for the one you got is a super good deal even if it's had a rough life and had it's nut molested, shamefully. It would take nearly twice that much to make me even consider parting with mine and I'd prolly still keep it at that.
Oh, and the Guild, it's my best friend and a constant companion. She's already developing a gorgeous burnished-in polish where my arm contacts the base side corner of the lower bout, as well as the entire neck. The satin nitro finish wears in really good over time if you play the instrument a lot. Character in spades and a total keeper.

Jeremy, I bought my first Gibson acoustic last week, a 2016 J-45 Standard. It sounds amazing. Something is missing though. It has no side bracing, which I had heard was the easy way to distinguish between solid wood and laminate guitars. Any idea what I'm looking at? Did Gibson intentionally leave side bracing off of solid wood guitars? Could the sides be laminate?

Great buys! I don't know how many guitars I've seen where either from the factory something wasn't right with the saddle, nut or the action. Often caused by a lack of humidification especially with all solid wood guitars but instead of humidification and maybe a little fret dressing or other simple work.
    They'll do some unnecessary modification!

If it stays in tune and sounds/plays good whats wrong with the zero fret? It may take away from resale value but improve the playability for a real owner of the guitar. Also 2100 is a steal for a guitar that could sell for an easy 3000.

You had me for a minute with the marquee “Gibson TV J-45” as Gibson and TV refers to a specific color Gibson used back in the 50’s to refer to a yellowish color that allowed players to show up on black and white television. I have a 2019 J45 Vintage and it’s a wonderful guitar. My variant has a matte finish which I think is cool compared with the glossy one on yours. Nut and saddle on yours should be bone and based on the closeups you showed I wonder if the nut maybe was switched out? If it were mine I’d try to get the original parts from Gibson, get rid of the zero fret, and make it right again. I missed it if you showed the case, but these (and mine) came in a very heavy, pinkish velvet lined brown case which is cool and like the “real” vintage guitars.

I think you need to take a closer look.
You mentioned a low saddle and look at the nut the string slots are cut too deep.
This is a red flag. Most Gibson’s have excellent neck sets. I would suggest the J-45 Vintage
with the torified Adirondack spruce top.
I bought on about 3 weeks ago and it’s sound is as close to the 40’s Gibson as it can get.
I’ve repairs many Gibson’s from the 40’s and I prefer the reissue. You get the sound and no
    problems.
