Admittedly, there are some odd entries on this list. For example, both Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy Anthology are listed - which is a bit redundant. Ditto for Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy Chronicles. But, votes are votes and I listed them anyway.
Looking through this list, one developer in particular stands out for their output: Square. They published so many diverse titles with consistently high quality on the PS1. It's interesting how they've went from successfully pursuing multiple genres to essentially being a single franchise shop...
What's even more interesting is comparing this video with a Top 100 PS1 list ... as listed by MetaCritic, which I have also uploaded! There's a surprisingly wide disparity between what gamers consider "Top 100" and what critics consider "Top 100"...
On a personal note, I'm majorly bummed out that Omega Boost didn't make either list. Boo.
NOTE: For people saying #49 is mis-identified - Final Fantasy Chronicles (#49) ... is actually a collection of FFIV and Chrono Trigger. And considering I already had footage from FF Anthology, FFV and FFVI already on the list, I wanted to use some different footage of the game - hence the Chrono Trigger footage.
Also note that Resident Evil 1 does not appear twice. If you pay attention, the votes put "Resident Evil Director's Cut" at 99 and the stock "Resident Evil" at 19.

Some are duplicates, which kind of sucks - FF anthology was there, and FF5 & 6. Ff anthology (in USA at least) was 5&6. Plus, resident evil, and resident evil directors cut aren’t really 2 separate games. Surprised to see no gran turismo lol

There was something so underground about the PS1. It was the kind of console you played late into the night when you didn't have school or homework in a dimly lit room in your basement. Just you and the TV screen illuminating the area around you. It was a time.
Yeah there is something about the ps1, with that iconic loading screen, that got lost when everything transitioned to ps2.
It was such a grown up console compared to the competition of the time and fit perfectly with the late 90s vibe here in the Uk

@@adjustableisland8806 nah the PS2 was still a pretty solid console with plenty of amazing and unique titles, things started going downhill with PS3 and onwards because it simply wasn't worth it anymore when PC did everything better and had a much bigger library.
Thanks for including game titles and making the clips short. Nothing worse than slogging through a top 100 game video with 30 second clips and no game titles.

I remember during the first couple of years the Achilles heel for the PS1 was the lack of RPGs. The only one available for quite awhile was Beyond the Beyond. The PS1 ended up having one of the most solid RPG libraries of any console.
If we learned anything from this list, its that Square was on their job big time back then.

While Square definitely was the top developer with 6 out of the top 10 games, Konami had 3 of the top 10 games. So 9 out of the top 10 was Square and Konami. Capcom with Resident Evil 2 was the only other game in top 10

i used to have a dozen games at most, and when a game came out on another console that i really wanted i would trade in my console and games for another console with that one game. i threw away so many amazing games i wish i still had by being impatient. i had a ps1, then an n64, then a ps1 again, then a dreamcast, had a gamecube, xbox, and ps2 but almost always only one at a time and rarely held onto a console for more than 6 months. i must have had 5 or 6 new ps1s, 2 or 3 n64s, a couple dreamcasts, 2 or 3 gamecubes, a couple xboxes, 3 or 4 ps2s and so on, man i was stupid back then. with a little patience i could easily have every console right now with a nice collection of games for each.
@@Jack_80 if you got a really good pc close to gaming quality you can use an emulators to relive your childhood memories and fill your library of PS1 games to the max.

Metal Gear Solid 1 was such a gamechanger back in the day... it was the first game that really implemented cinematic cutscenes so the game would feel like an interactive movie. Such a classic.

the vr missions add on was amazing too especially playing as gray fox or doing the detective levels lol
It was my favourite game..a long game to complete.. there was stages that took me ages.. I was about 12 when I did it . I did it about 3 times and when I got the stealth I did it again but had some fun with it

...ranking is subjective.
It requires rational and artistic criterias, in a specific genre, to even attend to it properly... and not a popularity statistic.
So how you value theses games are what matters ultimately.

People here may disagree on it, but PS1 had some really cool and unique games (have you ever seen something like LSD Dream Emulator on PS4?), and it was truly varied when compared to SNES/Sega era (where everything was platform, rpg and beat n up, hahaha)

The PS1 graphics are nothing like what's shown in this video, this is greatly improved thanks to an emulator.
@@brugges Yuuuuup! Definitely not a true representation of what the actual console generates. Don't get me wrong, I still love it, but the uploader used a high res option on the emu to soften the jagged pixels, present on the actual hardware.

ps1 games had an artistic style that made them look better than many modern games to me. i think ffviii and ix look better than ffxv. despite xv having far higher polygon counts and technical advantages, it looks dull and boring to me, never blew me away the way 8 and 9 did and still do to this day, but that's just me.

Sad for not having 007 Tomorrow Never Dies ,Air Combat,Ace combat 2,Doom, The Italian Job, Spider-man, Spiderman 2 enter the electro, WarHawk, Galerians, Tarzan ,Xena the Warrior princess,SpongeBob, Apocalypse, Battle Arena Toshiden,Harry Potter and the philosopher stone, Harry Potter and The Chamber of the secrets,Resident Evil Survivor ,Stuart Little 2, Croc, Rugrats search for reptar and The Mummy. There are some guilty pleasures but I had a lot of Fun playing these games.

Great video, know these were according to votes but some personal favourites I didn't see were Jackie Chan stuntmaster, gex, Xena warrior princess, megaman x8, gekido urban fighters, time crisis, rival schools, digital card battle and 007 racing

Excellent side choices! Jackie Chan Stuntmaster and Xena in particular are well regarded as less know "hidden gems" on the PS1. People tended to avoid them because of the stigma of licensed gaming, which is a shame.

@@Jaycee_2x the ps1 classic controller does not have the analog stick for controls. It limits the games you should play on that ps1 Classic system.
@@hugopolo-lecoffredugeek8318 u can buy any controller from any system 2 use on it.. amazon has them all with usb ports, ps4, n64, snes etc. A 2 pack is only 30$

What about the first two Fear Effect games? Those two were my def favorites on the PS1. I still love that you have MGS, FF9, Chrono Trigger/Chrono Cross, and Gran Turismo 2 on the list though. I played the crap out of all those games when I was younger😆

Why put Resident Evil: Director's Cut and later the classic Resident Evil, or Final Fantasy Anthology and later Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI if those two games are exactly the content of Anthology?
RE: DC features the Advanced mode that changes some enemies and key items placement, new camera angles, new outfits... It's like a new mode and it's harder than the original game

Time crisis, puma street soccer, die hard trilogy, FA premier league all stars, WWF warzone, Fifa 98 road to the world cup, ace combat, 007 world is not enough, knockout kings, music 2000, bust a move, carmageddon, toca racing, colin mccrae 2, command and conquer just to name a few.
Are you using emulator? It's so clear!! Can you tell me the emulator and display settings you use to emulate? I'd love to play in those clear arts.

Pac-Man World, Jersey Devil, Bugs Bunny Lost in Time and its sequel Bugs & Taz Time Busters, Sheep Raider, Croc 1 & 2, Frogger 1 & 2 (especially the latter), Twisted Metal 2, 3 & 4, Crash Bash, R-Type Delta, Donald Duck Goin' Quackers, etc.
At least Klonoa Door to Phantomile made it in. That's by far one if not the best platformer of the PS1 era, such a gem.

Xenogears, Final Fantasy, Legend of the Dragoon, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross and others are one of the best jRPG's.
Valkyrie Profile still expensive, but if you have a PSP then I heartily recommend Valkyrie Profile Lenneth. MUCH cheaper... and it's an enhanced port of the original game.

Concordo em partes. Acredito que essa sensação diferente era gerada por ser tudo "novo", cada jogo que a gente jogava era totalmente diferente e nunca visto antes, não tinha internet pra pesquisar sobre algo do jogo ou ver gameplay. Hoje em dia é difícil algo inovador aparecer, é tudo mais do mesmo. Mas a grande maioria dos jogos da nossa infância é melhor deixar só na lembrança, se a gente for jogar hoje em dia acaba ficando desapontado kkkk. Abraço.

They were definitively great gems on ps1, but as part of the early 3d era it came with it's lot of very awful games, ratio was like 1 goods games for 3 averages to mediocres games

In my opinion of of the best PSX games was Future Cop LAPD. Sadly not a lot of people know it, but everyone that does loves it. It is a tiny gem with a loyal following.
Good news for you, somebody is working on a remake for that game in Unreal engine.

Counted 8/20 of these games that appeared on PS classic (FF7, MGS, Syphon Filter, RE:Director Cut, Wild Arms, Super Puzzle Fighter, Ridge Racer 4, Oddworld). Everybody knows the library is poor with some choices not chosen over their superior versions, but goes to show you, hacking it grants you access to an awesome library. Other recommendations I got are Bubsy 3d, Batman Beyond, and the Hulk.
Makes you wonder; if they had only included those games would people have complained less or more. I hacked mine and felt it was more trouble than it was worth.
I was never a fan of RPGs. So, I would rank my top games as:
1. Harvest Moon: Back to Nature 2
2. Resident Evil 3 (and others)
3. Metal gear solid 2
4. Crash Bandicoot 3 (and 4)
5. Gran tourism 2
6. Rage Racer 2
7. Pepsiman

Diablo, Driver, Syphon Filter Trilogy, Twisted metal series, Crash bandicot racing game, Destrega, Armored Core,
Marvel super heroes, Marvel vs Street fighter, Need for speed III, Road rash series, Captain Tsubaza and North Star(only in Japan) and Colony WArs were amazing too. Good times and nice memories thanks to PS1.

What is surprising having grown up with a ps1 is that a lot of the graphics can hold up for the most part today (especially in comparison to mobile game graphics)
