You were wise! Having spent a lot of time with all 3 consoles to make the videos on my channel, I gotta say that the N64 has probably aged the worst. While there are definitely some gems in the N64 lineup - I would claim that for overall average quality, the Saturn is quite a bit ahead.
I just picked up sega saturn couple days ago. Never played one before. I only have 4 games and all are RPG witch in not very good at. So I don't really like it yet. Maybe I can find some platformers? You didn't really have any in the videos. Also 4 RPG Games for sale if anyone's interested.
It was said this system was so hard to program for, so that only 1 out of every 100 developers had the skill to make a title...I believe this is what gave the Saturn it's unique library
It warms my heart to see Death Tank Zwei on here (even though it's not a "real" game). It's really great. I would play duels VS my father the weekends I got home when in our equivalent of high school (and the intro song was my ringtone for him for a LONG while). He was given handicaps in the form of me not being allowed to use all weapons whereas he could use whatever. I want to see it ported to PC BADLY. Yes there was an Xbox 360 version a few years ago, that seemingly did not get a lot of love, but all those fancy graphics and stuff isn't needed. Just port the game as it is/was and with netplay and that's all you need.
No Sonic games?! Surprised I was to see so many PC games on the list, like Pandemonium, Need for Speed, Warcraft II, Command and Conquer, Sim City 2000, Worms, Duke Nukem, Resident Evil. A few cross-ports too, like Tomb Raider (PC and PSX). Thunderforce V was also on the PSX. There seemed to be rather a lot of "match-3" games as well, those ones that resemble Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine :-)
There was no sonic game developed specially to Saturn… sonic adventure 1 was supposed to be on Saturn, but as long the console failed soon, they changed the project to Dreamcast. A sonic adventure style wasn’t developed to the console… such a shame…
It was so mythical that I only vaguely heard about it and maybe saw a box in the store once, but it seemed like it was all over so fast and I missed the chance to check it out. I never knew anyone who had one, but it looks like the games were awesome and it would have been fun. This era was amazing. I had an N64 and there were great console games, but PC games were insane then too, as well as PS1… It was just too competitive for the Saturn I guess.
Sega keep ignoring the huge potential of Saturn's library of games.... This console was a gem and still is. People would pay full price for collections or even a Saturn mini. What a waste.
Thanks :) I actually already have 3 PS1 videos (2 of which are top 100s) and 2 dreamcast videos - so I may not get to them for a while... I'll keep that in mind though!
thanks for doing this work. some of these games look incredible style wise and i will look into them more. this is the time when games were made by adults for adults
Soviet Strike and Manx TT Superbike took my interest the most I'm honestly shocked by the existence of RTS games such as Sim City 2000, C&C and Warcraft 2 on Sega Saturn, they looked cool and ahead of their time too (mostly Sim City 2000), especially considering the time and the fact that they're running on a CONSOLE! Hero's Adventure looked goofy but good kind of goofy Space Hulk looked scary! especially considering the time Die Hard arcade was lame tho, like why would you make a fighting game of it...?!
back when games used to be simple but straight to the point ... now you need 30 minutes to figure out the genre and more 2 hours to realize whether you like the game or not ......they mislead you in every way possible so you would just buy the product thats why we have trouble finding out if the damn game we are playing is good or not !!!
So, not trying to be a downer or anything, but I remember the Saturn as the console that was going to be so awesome. And then it just never was. After watching this, I think I can see why.
Na Sege Saturn wyszło mnóstwo mocnych tytułów z automatów. Playstation nie mogło się poszczycić takimi klejnotami. Sega Saturn miała na prawdę mocny, niespotykany urok.
I am impressed with these graphics. They rival PS1 well, and some of the pixel art would be still relevant up to this day on Steam in a new game I think. It is sad Sega lost the race, but someone had to.. too expensive machine?
There were a variety of factors leading to a less-than-successful Saturn lifespan - most of which are often attributed to bad-faith actions on behalf of the Sega. Cost was certainly one of them (at launch, a 100$ more than PlayStation); Sega's lack of localizing/licensing more "western friendly" titles; and there was already some consumer backlash against Sega for the rapid introduction/discarding of the Sega CD platform. If you speak to Saturn fans from the time, many will agree that Sega themselves made it a tough platform to love. I'm sure other viewers here can comment on this...
I remember me and my brother getting a satarn one Christmas and we loved it I remember playing daytona sega rally nights panzer vitrul fighter and a few other games but apart from that I think we moved on from it quick? I'm going to get one soon tho because I have to lol
Looking back at the Saturn makes me somewhat sad. Between gorgeous 2D graphics that would bring a home console the same quality or more than the Neo Geo and Arcades of the 90's, or mediocre 3D graphics that aged very badly, most developers chose to make games with mediocre 3D graphics, leaving only few pearls made in beautiful 2D.
@@koshi6505 "For the era...", That is my issue with that. The 2D games look really good today. Hey, I love old games and I collect PC games from the the 90's and they have the same issue. The 3D games are great for the era, don't play as good for today standards but are still VERY, VERY, VERY fun. But the 2D ones are better, almost perfect and that is my point. This is not true for 100% of the games, but is general rule true for most of the games from that time. (MDK is my favorite game even today, amazing 3D and plays almost perfect)
I'm amazed powerslave and tomb raider are considered in the top 10 saturn games... for this list there's so much more interesting games for the saturn...

nice to see panzer dragoon saga at the top that game was sooooo good needs a remake for sure
so back then .. you could walk n shoot in Deep Fear - but you still could not in resident evil 5 on ps3
I love your vids!! Do a Top 100 Dreamcast and Playstation 1 Games according to Retro Sanctuary.
Thanks :) I actually already have 3 PS1 videos (2 of which are top 100s) and 2 dreamcast videos - so I may not get to them for a while... I'll keep that in mind though!
I know that :( , but for me Retro Sanctuary have muuuuuuch better selection of games, they are the BEST!! Thanks for the vids :)
Yeah, I like the Retro-Sanctuary lists too. I will try to use them for more lists in the future. Thanks for the feedback! :D
And ... Top 100 Dreamcast games according to Retro-Sanctuary is now up!
ua-cam.com/video/GwEE3rYTiyk/v-deo.html
Thanks!! you are the best :)
thanks for doing this work. some of these games look incredible style wise and i will look into them more. this is the time when games were made by adults for adults
Elevator Action Returns is underrated as hell
Could not have picked a worse clip of pandemonium... That game was ridiculous.
89. Crusader no remorse! I haven’t seen that game since I had it for ps1 over 20 years ago
No Castlevania!
In America anyway. Sotn was released for it, and probably the one before it as well
I love the control of this console
Alien trilogy was scary
Without a doubt the sega saturn is one of the most underrated consoles.
I'm still kicking myself for not buying Panzer Dragoon saga upon release. Its worth a fortune now...
To me it was up to date technology at time as the games where disc 😳😂
Astra superstars looks nice!
Nostalgia level 9000!!!
Soviet Strike and Manx TT Superbike took my interest the most
I'm honestly shocked by the existence of RTS games such as Sim City 2000, C&C and Warcraft 2 on Sega Saturn, they looked cool and ahead of their time too (mostly Sim City 2000), especially considering the time and the fact that they're running on a CONSOLE!
Hero's Adventure looked goofy but good kind of goofy
Space Hulk looked scary! especially considering the time
Die Hard arcade was lame tho, like why would you make a fighting game of it...?!
Now this is gaming!
Top Hidden Gems Sega Saturn games !
wow shooting out the vids thanks gary
Saturno foi um ótimo console e teve muitos jogos bons ainda bem que tenho um ótimo vídeo parceiro
There will never be another game like Mr. Bones.
Verdict is in:
I missed out on some damn good games 😑
Sega Saturn had such a great games.
Oh Hexen, why can't we have a remake of Hexen?
Civvie 11 wants to know your location!
That is ID software next plan after Doom Eternal.
back when games used to be simple but straight to the point ... now you need 30 minutes to figure out the genre and more 2 hours to realize whether you like the game or not ......they mislead you in every way possible so you would just buy the product thats why we have trouble finding out if the damn game we are playing is good or not !!!
Games are complex because they can be and should be. Pushing the boundaries is what humans do
If everyone thought that way we would still be riding horses because cars are complex
And you must buy the game, then “install it”
Well I'm still trying to find out what kind of game Nights into Dreams is...
@@parappatherapper4141 they will tell you its all about "the experience " my ass ! its all about selling you the damn product
So, not trying to be a downer or anything, but I remember the Saturn as the console that was going to be so awesome. And then it just never was.
After watching this, I think I can see why.
Great list of games to declare the best, but WHAT ABOUT EARTHWORM JIM 2??????? THAT GAME IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!
best 100 without OUTRUN?😳...no way
Na Sege Saturn wyszło mnóstwo mocnych tytułów z automatów.
Playstation nie mogło się poszczycić takimi klejnotami.
Sega Saturn miała na prawdę mocny, niespotykany urok.
When the top games on your platform consists of ports or arcade conversions you know it didn't go well. ;(
I'm here in anticipation of the Saturn MiSTer core
Endless shmups... love it.
A sadly forgotten once-great genre!
what's the thumbnail game?
7:08
Don't mind this. It's just a time stamp for me.
omfg I remember that alien trilogy game I fuckin loved it
Warcraft 2.... so slept on.
Saturn is for REAL video gamers...
I knew a couple of fake gamers that had Saturns. But they just hipsters
usually some people on this days had amazing console just for be cool...
Like me 😎🇧🇷 #Bolsonaro2018
Like almost ALL SEGA Games. Look at Virtua Fighter 5 fs. The deepest fighting game ever. Sega just always sucked at marketing
@@michaelromeo9567 how can i play VF 5?
Sexy Parodius, Megaman 8 and Guardian Heroes deserve top 5.
Sega got all the games thats on my taste.
panzer dragoon seemed like the only game worth playing
obrigado irmão pelo vídeo, ficou ótimo
Looking back at the Saturn makes me somewhat sad. Between gorgeous 2D graphics that would bring a home console the same quality or more than the Neo Geo and Arcades of the 90's, or mediocre 3D graphics that aged very badly, most developers chose to make games with mediocre 3D graphics, leaving only few pearls made in beautiful 2D.
Even the 3D games actually look really good for the era.
Thanks for the vid
I swear there were many good games on Saturn. But we were greedy back then for the playstation
I'm amazed powerslave and tomb raider are considered in the top 10 saturn games... for this list there's so much more interesting games for the saturn...
For 1994 it had decent graphics
omg that Virual on game I think it was the only game I had for months hahaha
