Hey there, I have a weird issue where it was working on my computer for months and stopped (Apple M3 Max chip). I was using it yesterday but today won't recognize the drive. I can see it in the Disk Utility but it says Unmounted and won't mount. My M1 MacBook Air recognizes it, however. Do you think it's the cable or should I transfer all the date, reformat it, and try again? So strange. I checked all the privacy preferences and restarted and even tried swapping cables with a different external drive that is recognized and none of that worked.
When I open "disk utility" my external drive still won't show up... What should I do? :( loved the video tho! So informative! Wish it would've worked for me :( Keep up the great work!!!!
This has just happened to my Medio 2012 MacBook Pro. It provides power to the USB ports, but it won't read data. It doesn't show up in disc utility either. I've tried everything. 😭
This happened to me. All I did was connect a charger to my MacBook and then shutdown and restart the mac with the external hard drive plugged in and it worked. I don’t know if this is a fix but my external ssd sometimes doesn’t work on my MacBook Pro M1 when it’s battery powered
quick question, if I hit erase will it delete my data on the drive - so basically swipe the external drive clean - or will my data still be available ?
So I cannot use my drive on my new M1 mac without erasing all my data? I just moved all my necessary old data from my PC to a T5 believing I will be able to retrieve it on my new Mac. But you’re telling me that my data is gone forever! Is there a way to have the T5 work on my Mac without loosing my data? My mac keeps showing that T5 is not detected. I am running Ventura. @@ethanhahn I couldn’t take the risk of trying this and figuring it out. Another video suggested changing Mac’s security policy on recovery mode. It solved the problem for some. I tried but it didn’t work for me. So I backed up all my data first to a Windows laptop and then proceeded to format the T5 to exFAT file system on the windows pc. It now works on both windows and my Mac. I had to copy the backup again from the PC to T5. Was quite irritated by this limitation of MacOS as someone who was moving from windows.

Yeah I've had way more issues (including the external drive not appearing) since I switched to m1 macbook air for video editing than I ever had on windows Even after all the fixes sometimes the drive just doesn't appear but for final cut pro, the problems are totally worth it

Hi Liam, did your T5's PSSD software detects the drive in the M1 MacBook? I have a T7 and the drive works perfectly well with the M1 MacBook but the PSSD software doesn't detect it. hence I couldn't use the password protection.
I have a SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD 2TB Drive (USB-C). It was originally formatted as EXFAT so that it could be read on MacOS and Windows. It was able to be used on both until randomly one day my 2018 MacBook Pro was no longer detecting the drive (did not even appear in the Disk Utility). When I went to plug it into a Windows PC laptop, then it was detected and I could open it to view and access the files. Do you know what could be causing this issue?
I'm in MacOS Monterey, and my internal HDD (My system is on the SSD) is formated to ExFat, as well as the USB Drives i have. But still, they are not recognised and I can't mount them (using Disk Utility). And as of now, I haven't found any solution. Thanks in advance!
I am new to the mac. One of the reasons why people is NTFS is because this format is able to read files larger than 4GB in size. I dont thing exFAT is able to read anything larger than 4GB. So is the other 2 MAC formats able to do so?

hi... My external hardest detected but when I click it is empty. All the documents in the drive do not appear at all. In this case, do I have to do the same like you did in this video.. but I don't want to lose any of my documents. Can you help me on this matter? really appreciate if you do...
Just got access to mine! Thank you for making this. My takeaways: - The SSD is not the problem it's unlocking it through the software - Software not "registering" T5 even when plugged in - software not compatible - Mine by connecting my SSD to the original laptop/software I set it up with - Once accesses, input password and turned off password security Accessed T5 grated for any device! *If you don't have your original device, try using a friends Samsung phone to access and turn of password.

Just bought the Samson T7 ssd today… running a late 2014 27 inch I7. The disk wasn’t being recognized. So I downloaded the Mac file from the Samson site. After the download… I got the ssd window That show the ssd was disconnected. Afterwards I switched usb ports and restarted my computer. It worked like a charm.
My M1 should arrive within a week, also the Samsung T7 2TB. I also have a Windows machine so I will definitely use ExFAT. The only thing that interests me is read/write speed between ExFAT and Journaled. Did you do the tests and is there a difference? Thanks, subscribed!
I have M1 Air 16gtRam..I have Lacie and I have Seagate. Nothing shows anywhere. I have also set the Kernel working which you need to do when you open the Mac and keep the power button on until you get to the place you can take the security level down. STILL NOTHING SHOWS....Im close to throwing this f...Mac to a wall. I have 3 other Macs. Never problems like this. They all have Big Sur....

Hmm, external SSD shows in an HP but not in iPad or MacBook Air, so can't reformat it. Tried cables, another identical SSD also fails to be seen. Managed with other SSDs having follows your great instructions

What do you do when the drive randomly drops out screwing external photos library ? Disk eject errors. New cables, formatted for Mac, sleep turned off. Having to rebuild the library every couple of days. Disk works fine with another Mac. Tried changing M1 port.

After approaching apple customer care and so many calls they were not able to help me out with my MacBook Air M1 .. that too after ISD calls from Singapore. Though Data from the disk is erased but now I know how to put it back and use the service. kudos to created Labs for such great info.
Does this SSD give you kernel panics? I have issues with using traditional external hard drives. They always give me kernel panics when they are connected to my M1 MacBook Air.

I bought my WD 1TB hard drive to pull everything out of my Mac so I can downgrade back to Catalina (because I didn't know how much of a mess Big Sur was until it was too late). I was worried that I'd be SOL because the Paragon drivers aren't compatible with Mac OS 10.16 but this was just what I needed!

Hi! How safe is to adding kext? Like paragon ntfs driver for example. I am kind of person who like to keep everything original and how it is suppose to be. But in case I need to copy smthng on NTFS drive (let’s say it is not my drive) I also want to have an option. Also my LG tvos doesn’t support exFAT presently. My external disk drive is recognizing some disks but not others. What happens if the disk never appears on the utility disk nor on the desktop. Other disks are working just fine. Any fix for this? I did notice that the disks that are not working are a different brand name than the others.
I have a Mac Mini 2014 and installed the latest Monterey OS....I used a wired key board as recommended......I installed bootcamp and then used my Logitech wired keyboard to use both systems....unbeknown to me my logitech wireless mouse and keyboard prevented me from seeing external drives on Monterey OS.....when I removed the wireless keyboard and attached a generic wired keyboard I could see all the external drives attached to Mac OS.....this drove me nuts

I have a usb c hub for my 2019 MacBook air. I can charge the MacBook through the hub, so it seems to be working, but when I plug something into the hub, it is not detected by the MacBook. The MacBook seems to recognise the hub in System Information. Any idea why it's not recognising any usb devices?

Hello. Can I ask if this solution will also work with my new Mac M1 running on macOS Big Sur. I have an Apple USB Superdrive to play my dvd's on but nothing will play. I have checked in finder the External disks and CDs, DVDs and iPods are both ticked, The Usb Superdrive shows in the top right corner of the screen and when I open it it won't play, it's just a blacked out box, so I am asking before doing anything that will make the situation worse. Also the quick time player is showing in my Applications folder in Finder but not in my About this computer overview under storage ( manage) so totally bamboozled at the moment. 4:41, Had happened to me twice! If you don't eject properly you can damage the drive! Last time I wasn't able to retrieve my data! So, I'd say YES! Right click/eject the icon on your desktop or click eject in the icon's Finder.
Have you got any info in resurrecting a drive after trying to clone a macOS11 system? All was fine in OS10, so these are issues now. It has destroyed a partition on my optical external after First Aid (updating from Exfat to APFS, never used), and half my Sandisk USB stick (MacOS Extended to APFS) which I used for Time Machine backups. First Aid failed the first one. Will not run FA on the USB as I fear it will destroy the drive. Any software you can recommend to fix these? I still have a Catalina OS, so any advice to fix it would be great.

I prefer to always click the eject button, but is rare to have any problem when forgot, but i already had in the past, so best habit to eject. You can avoid some data lost in memory cache...
Same result if you right click over the drive icon and select eject or if you drag the icon to the trash. It's always more secure ejecting before disconnecting
I had a problem with an ereader not mounting on my Mac, despite working fine at first. It should just appear as storage. Eventually I discovered that if I connected the ereader to a small (unpowered) hub, then attach the hub to my Mac, it would mount correctly. No idea why it only works via a hub, but something worth trying if you have a device that should mount but doesn't.
I do have MacBook Air 2020 M1 Chip. It doesn't work for me in Big Sur with the T7 (MBP2020). I can only access the HD, I can't use the Touch program. Does not recognize the program, is in a loop, asks to install something that is already installed.
My external hard drive was working fine. I was torrenting some files and then my screen frozen. I turned off my macbook and when I turned it on it was not showing up in my finder. It is also not showing up in Disk Utility. When I am in storage, it shows up on USB Disk. But I not sure where to go from there. Please help. Thanks.

Reformatting is not an option if your drive has a ton of stuff that shows up on.a Windows laptop but is not recognized by macOS.

Were you able to figure it out if it deletes all data? I have a lot of content and only my one t5 ssd and definitely dont want the data deleted

IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM! On my iMac the ext. disk is ticked but it didn't show up in Finder so I untick it then tick again. Voila!

Just bought the Samson T7 ssd today… running a late 2014 27 inch I7. The disk wasn’t being recognized. So I downloaded the Mac file from the Samson site. After the download… I got the ssd window That show the ssd was disconnected. Afterwards I switched usb ports and restarted my computer. It worked like a charm.
My M1 should arrive within a week, also the Samsung T7 2TB. I also have a Windows machine so I will definitely use ExFAT. The only thing that interests me is read/write speed between ExFAT and Journaled. Did you do the tests and is there a difference? Thanks, subscribed!
I have M1 Air 16gtRam..I have Lacie and I have Seagate. Nothing shows anywhere. I have also set the Kernel working which you need to do when you open the Mac and keep the power button on until you get to the place you can take the security level down. STILL NOTHING SHOWS....Im close to throwing this f...Mac to a wall. I have 3 other Macs. Never problems like this. They all have Big Sur....

Hmm, external SSD shows in an HP but not in iPad or MacBook Air, so can't reformat it. Tried cables, another identical SSD also fails to be seen. Managed with other SSDs having follows your great instructions

What do you do when the drive randomly drops out screwing external photos library ? Disk eject errors. New cables, formatted for Mac, sleep turned off. Having to rebuild the library every couple of days. Disk works fine with another Mac. Tried changing M1 port.

After approaching apple customer care and so many calls they were not able to help me out with my MacBook Air M1 .. that too after ISD calls from Singapore. Though Data from the disk is erased but now I know how to put it back and use the service. kudos to created Labs for such great info.
I have only problems. Even the security level DOWN to use KERNEL did not help one bit.
Does this SSD give you kernel panics? I have issues with using traditional external hard drives. They always give me kernel panics when they are connected to my M1 MacBook Air.
None so far, used with all M1 Macs and also multiple Windows PCs.

I was worried that I'd be SOL because the Paragon drivers aren't compatible with Mac OS 10.16 but this was just what I needed!

Hi! How safe is to adding kext? Like paragon ntfs driver for example. I am kind of person who like to keep everything original and how it is suppose to be. But in case I need to copy smthng on NTFS drive (let’s say it is not my drive) I also want to have an option. Also my LG tvos doesn’t support exFAT presently.

My external disk drive is recognizing some disks but not others. What happens if the disk never appears on the utility disk nor on the desktop. Other disks are working just fine. Any fix for this? I did notice that the disks that are not working are a different brand name than the others.
My MAC detected hardisk using c type to hardisk port.
Further, you can use paragon software to use NTFS format hardisk.
I have a Mac Mini 2014 and installed the latest Monterey OS....I used a wired key board as recommended......I installed bootcamp and then used my Logitech wired keyboard to use both systems....unbeknown to me my logitech wireless mouse and keyboard prevented me from seeing external drives on Monterey OS.....when I removed the wireless keyboard and attached a generic wired keyboard I could see all the external drives attached to Mac OS.....this drove me nuts

Hi, thanks for the closer look to recover WD passport external drive with Mac data. So far no look with your methods. It's not showing up on Mac at all. However it's showing up on my Windows labtop. But can't read it. Can I recover my mac data in windows? And then somehow read it back on a Mac?

I have a usb c hub for my 2019 MacBook air. I can charge the MacBook through the hub, so it seems to be working, but when I plug something into the hub, it is not detected by the MacBook. The MacBook seems to recognise the hub in System Information. Any idea why it's not recognising any usb devices?

Hello. Can I ask if this solution will also work with my new Mac M1 running on macOS Big Sur. I have an Apple USB Superdrive to play my dvd's on but nothing will play. I have checked in finder the External disks and CDs, DVDs and iPods are both ticked, The Usb Superdrive shows in the top right corner of the screen and when I open it it won't play, it's just a blacked out box, so I am asking before doing anything that will make the situation worse. Also the quick time player is showing in my Applications folder in Finder but not in my About this computer overview under storage ( manage) so totally bamboozled at the moment. 4:41, Had happened to me twice! If you don't eject properly you can damage the drive! Last time I wasn't able to retrieve my data! So, I'd say YES! Right click/eject the icon on your desktop or click eject in the icon's Finder.

Have you got any info in resurrecting a drive after trying to clone a macOS11 system? All was fine in OS10, so these are issues now. It has destroyed a partition on my optical external after First Aid (updating from Exfat to APFS, never used), and half my Sandisk USB stick (MacOS Extended to APFS) which I used for Time Machine backups. First Aid failed the first one. Will not run FA on the USB as I fear it will destroy the drive.
Any software you can recommend to fix these? I still have a Catalina OS, so any advice to fix it would be great.

I prefer to always click the eject button, but is rare to have any problem when forgot, but i already had in the past, so best habit to eject. You can avoid some data lost in memory cache...
Same result if you right click over the drive icon and select eject or if you drag the icon to the trash. It's always more secure ejecting before disconnecting
I had a problem with an ereader not mounting on my Mac, despite working fine at first. It should just appear as storage. Eventually I discovered that if I connected the ereader to a small (unpowered) hub, then attach the hub to my Mac, it would mount correctly. No idea why it only works via a hub, but something worth trying if you have a device that should mount but doesn't.

It doesn't work for me in Big Sur with the T7 (MBP2020). I can only access the HD, I can't use the Touch program. Does not recognize the program, is in a loop, asks to install something that is already installed.
My external hard drive was working fine. I was torrenting some files and then my screen frozen. I turned off my macbook and when I turned it on it was not showing up in my finder.
