This is song about being at a concert. It’s a tribute to where they started playing (battery street) and double meaning because a battery has a charge- they feed off the crowd and the crowd feeds off them. It’s the metaphor of being at a show. The line “can not kill the family” metallica calls their fans “the metallica family” this Al im is the first metal album placed in the library of congress for its musical and cultural significance. Every song is spectacular. Not the song from stranger things but it is on this album.
I'm not a native speaker, started learning English years after becoming a Metallica fan ('91 and '94). Until looking it up rather recently I had no idea what this is about. Battery as in a car, or a battery as an artillery company "lashing out the action"? 😂
The entire album is a master piece. 13 year old me in a mini van family vacation in colorado in the late 80's hearing this for the first time on a cassette walkman. mind blowing.
One of the things that I have really enjoyed about Metallica is the instrumental arrangement, with it's classical influence, and shredding guitar licks. It's chaos controlled, it's unbridled passion directed effortlessly in a synchronicity of sound and sensation. Poetry.

Nice to see younger people discovering the Old School METALLICA. They evolved nicely as artists over the years but they were so fast when they wanted to be.
Master of puppets would have probably been a better intro to this band but seeing as you accidentally dove head first into one of their thrasher songs with such glee I look forward to seeing more. Great reaction.
I mean Master of Puppets is a thrasher song lmao it's like 200 BPM. I do think MOP would have been a better intro to the band as it shows off more of their musical prowess with the harmonic part and the fact James and Kirk both have a solo, that kind of stuff
This song is about where they’re from/started playing metal - Battery Street in San Fran where all the metal clubs were. Metal community was, and still is, concidered to be one large family so the line “cannot kill the family battery is found in me” refers to this… you mess with one, you mess with everyone within that community.
