It’s a tribute to where they started playing (battery street) and double meaning because a battery has a charge- they feed off the crowd and the crowd feeds off them. It’s the metaphor of being at a show. The line “can not kill the family” metallica calls their fans “the metallica family” this Al im is the first metal album placed in the library of congress for its musical and cultural significance. Every song is spectacular. Not the song from stranger things but it is on this album.
I'm not a native speaker, started learning English years after becoming a Metallica fan ('91 and '94). Until looking it up rather recently I had no idea what this is about. Battery as in a car, or a battery as an artillery company "lashing out the action"? 😂
One of the things that I have really enjoyed about Metallica is the instrumental arrangement, with it's classical influence, and shredding guitar licks. It's chaos controlled, it's unbridled passion directed effortlessly in a synchronicity of sound and sensation. Poetry.

Plenty of Metallica songs to discover as well as other bands. My current favorite band that I started listening to a couple years ago (after 30+ years of nothing new getting my attention) is Jinjer. Their song Pisces (live session) is a great kickoff to them. No research, just listen and enjoy (will probably want to pull up lyrics for them, subtitles don't work). Subbed. I mean Master of Puppets is a thrasher song lmao it's like 200 BPM. I do think MOP would have been a better intro to the band as it shows off more of their musical prowess with the harmonic part and the fact James and Kirk both have a solo, that kind of stuff
I remember listening to the whole album for the first time. My friend gave it to me on the cassete tape and I had pretty much the same reaction. I must've rewinded Battery twenty times and ONLY THEN I let it play to the next song... you all know what song is next on the album :) And then rewinded THAT SONG probably fifty times. There is a reason this album is in the Cogressional Library.
The singer has come a long way over the years. If you check out some of the classic songs done live, like the S&M albums or anything more recent you'll see he's a fantastic vocalist.

Used this as my alarm clock song for years. My stereo (remember those?) had an alarm clock function and at 6:30am, the nylon stringed guitars would be the perfect prelude for a new day. This was my favourite thrash metal (not rock or heavy metal) album for years.
