Some comments are dissing this performance... But it is a performance, real people, playing real music, in real time. All performances aren't perfect, but it has emotion. Better than the computer perfected drivel being released today.
Stop this, please. Music as "real and emotive" as this is out there, it's just not where you're listening. Do you go to local shows? Do you push outside the suggestions on your music app?
@@planomathandscience You don't know anything about me... And your opinion, on anything, is meaningless. I've probably forgotten more about music than you will ever know. Grow up.
Awesome to see him using “The Fool” (Clapton’s guitar from 60’s Cream days). Great that the guitar wasn’t just locked away in someone’s private collection.
Be prepared to rock, Cynthia! Last night in Napa CA he killed it. A setlist of deep cuts - dont expect the "hits". This is Todd doing what he does - defying expectations!
@@rogeeeferrari yes, it is refreshing, because now almost everybody wears black, beige or other dull colors. I like when people express themselves through colorful outfits, especially on stage. Go be miserable somewhere else.
I’ve had the occasion to interview Todd a few times over the years. He mentioned to me that early in his solo career, his voice sometimes “lacked tour endurance.” He would tour with Hello People as his band early on and they would do one of their numbers occasionally to break the set up for him a bit.
I guess you might call them “Ballads.” But I prefer Rundgren’s famous songs over those more obscure. Usually it’s the other way around for me. But I think he excels when he sits behind the piano and wears his heart on his sleeve. (True story. I knew this guy in high school named Todd. Great guy actually. He played bass and I actually thought he’d become a star as he was in a lot of “Battle of the Bands” contests. But Todd and Todd Rundgren seem so similar to me in so many ways. They even kind of looked alike although Rundgren is probably around 10 to 15 years older.)
Probably one of the greatest songs of the 70's. But only if it is performed well. Much better live a few years later later when Roger Powel and Kasim Sultan joined up and handled the high harmonies
I think it’s the band that recorded the first album in ‘74: Todd Rundgren - vocals, electric guitar Mark "Moogy" Klingman - keyboards, Hammond B-3 organ Ralph Schuckett - keyboards Jean Yves "M. Frog" Labat - synthesizer John Siegler - bass guitar, cello Kevin Ellman - drums, percussion

Ah, Todd Rundgren. Now he said something like, “If you’re a Trump supporter don’t come to my concert.” His words and not mine. Fair enough. I wonder if he watched the debate though last night. I know Joe Biden didn’t because Joe slept through the festivities.

This is great!! One of the most talented musicians of our generation. A Wizard a True Star indeed.
Todd is a very special music man...just love it! This record sound like a budfinger's soundgear
Just bought tix to see him in Chicago. 50 yrs after this! Amazing 😅
Just saw Todd & his band last month (May) in Charlotte, NC. He did a mix of new & his older music, great concert! Have a blast!

Wonderful. I was waiting for this clip. Todd tearing his voice in this pure feeling performance.
Please bring back those outfits, hair and make-up. It's so refreshing to watch. I bet it was a lot of fun for them to came up with this. ❤
Refreshing ? Total gay outfits with make up, no thanks...

@rogeeeferrari I agree.

Full on early 70s Bowie/Eno makeup. Love this song!
Was a hit...made it to no. 93 on billboard and considered one of the great power pop songs years before power pop
Such a nice studio recording-
But this- I’ve never heard his voice this shot

Pretty sure a lot of coke was consumed which will ravage your voice.
Great footage!
Hell yeah ... more Todd Rundgren!
It sounds like a 70s ballad as performed by a punk band. Todd was always ahead of the curve! 😆
Just no way to replicate the perfection of the studio version.
Wonderful, and c'mon, the styles in the 70s were SO F****** COOL!
Classic Rundgren
Love Todd! I had the pleasure of seeing him perform in 2018, and it was amazing!
my man my man💗✨💫💐
Thanks what a great find! The Clash before the Clash
More Todd!!
Well, that was very nice. Much heavier than the studio recording of it.
Just about a month before he released Todd!
Thanks. 👍🏻👏🏻
Live Todd! Hell Yeah! Like 420!👍
That was live, no lip sync.
Bringing power to offset his obviously strained voice. I prefer the gentler S/A? version, personally. Still an immense talent.
I think the integrated shoe-pants is going to make a comeback. Todd rocks the style.

Go and watch Utopia play this in 1981 and 1982. Todd sings so much better then and Utopia sounded better than ever. TRUST ME!
