When this came out in the arcades i was just a kid.. And let me tell you.. there was nothing like it.. it was amazing.. Cabinet and style of the machine was unforgettable. Nobody had ever seen a 3d game like this b4.. thx for the review and LGR your bang on !! its a mass quarter stealer
I played this game once. It was $1 when a quarter was still the standard and $.50 would get you a sit-down console ride. It was pulled pretty quick out of the small arcade I frequented.
I came across this game for the first time a few years ago at an arcade. It still feels so futuristic. I had no idea what it was. I died instantly. I could not figure out what I was doing wrong.
I've literally been watching your game reviews for 4 days straight now and I just finished watching every single one. I swear, you could talk about anything and i'd be completely interested. Keep on going with your kick-ass awesomeness! (:
Years ago I saw this next to a Simpsons arcade game, it didn't even cross my mind to play it, I just played the Simpsons one over and over and I don't regret that.
I used to go with my parents to Vegas growing up (age 10-16) and those huge arcades back then in the casinos used to have this game and man was I blown away. Great review. Love Retroware btw, had no idea you were affiliated.
I never played this game, but I distinctly remember seeing it in an arcade in the mid-90s. Since I didn't play it, (as I was a kid and had probably spent all my quarters on other games by then) I didn't know what it was at the time, but the 3D effect caught my eye and left a strong impression. It looked so futuristic and impressive, and set my mind wondering about holographic games that could take place in everyday environments - basically anticipating AR games.
I'll never forget when I saw this arcade game at my local mall one summer. I spent so much money on that game, it was so cool. I always wondered why there weren't other Hologram games...
At least modern games tell you what button to press in the QTE's. Back in the days of Dragons Lair and Space Ace it was trial and error and the loading times on a Commodore Amiga were horrendous. These were the kind of games you'd put on for 5 minutes just to show off the graphics to your mates.
Why does Cowboy guy shoot everybody!? He kills them even when they're running away, and he just straight up murdered those two baseball players! This game is sick and sadistic!
I *did* play this back in the day and watching this video was enough nostalgia for me. No need to seek it out. Thanks. Great video. I had forgotten all about this thing.
In a sea of games that looked similar, this one intrigued me back in the day. And it stole its fair share of quarters from me, but it was worth the actual experience, which seems like getting a camera to capture it nowadays doesn't even compare to actually playing its cabinet. Great vid. Scary freaking skullface.
Holy Crap! I remember seeing this at my bowling alley back in the early 90's. It had a big Adults Only sign on it and we "kids" would get in trouble for just watching the demo reel haha! Great to see there are still working models out there! What a blast from the past to see this!
Oh, man, I remember this one. I've not been able to find it since I saw it in the early 90s. Thanks for posting this! I was beginning to think that I'd imagined it. I mean... it's not a great game, but the arcade display *was* fascinating tech.
I remember encountering one of these machines in an arcade as a kid and I even got to play it once. I sucked horribly and got killed very quickly. The one thing I always remembered about it was that damn skull face. Even in that very brief session, that face stuck with me all these years later. That face is what ultimately made me remember the game. Sweet nightmare fuel for a young kid back then.
A local movie theater used to have a Holosseum up until around 2010. They still have a few machines like Area-51, but it was so strange to see something as unique as Holosseum in a theater.
I remember seeing this at all the arcades in the early 90's. I never played it but i enjoyed messing with the holograms trying to touch them. I would, in a very serious way, love to own one of the cabinets for this.
i used to play this in the arcade and it was so easy to memorize the moves to do i would turn my back and still beat it every time lol. i thought i was so cool and people were amazed lol
Ah, wow.... this brings back memories. Ever since this game has popped into my head from time to time, but I could never remember what it was called, so Im fairlyrapt to have found this video. The visual effect was really well done. Would be fun to try to recreate it.
I DON'T BELIEVE THIS!!!! I live in Argentina and went to the US back in...1990 i think, and i saw this god knows where, and all this time i thought i'd imagined it! I never could find any info about it, and now....just browsing youtube, blam, here it is! Thank you so much! ....now let's see what this was all about. (I remember there was a huge crowd around it and only got a mere peek out of it)
The Luxor casino in Las vegas used to partner with Sega and they had a huge, and I mean multiple floors huge arcade with tons of Sega arcade games as well as others. I played this once, I was maybe nine or ten and I really liked the display but the actual game was not so good. Still, nostalgia.
I remember being amazed by this game at the arcade. Not sure if I ever play'ed it, but, it sure looked cool. That was the future happening in front of you man.
'Tis a real flaw indeed. And yes, I played this at the GG! It's not always up and running properly, but they're good about getting their games back up to snuff pretty quickly.
OH MY GAWD...I don't believe this...you might never see this comment but I was randomly going through your channel...cause ahem I subscribe to PUR...then I saw this game review and randomly clicked on it...years ago when I was a VERY young kid, my parents decided to take a vacation to PEI, along the way we stopped at I think a tourist shack and I happened to see this strange arcade machine about a holographic time traveler cowboy or something...it looked cool and unfortunately since my parents didn't want to spend money to let me play it I was just awed at the demo of the game until it was time to go, I NEVER saw it again and never had any idea what the game was even called...until today that is...thanks for this!
I remember when the arcade machine came to our local arcade. They advertised it like crazy. It was pretty spectacular for the time as that holo effect was pretty convincing. It was a straight quarter muncher though.
Strangely I played this in a convenience store of all places. A large one not far from my home always got the best/biggest arcade cabinets like the X-men six player, Steel Talons, Race Drivin', Ninja Turtles arcade, Sunset Riders etc. Played it once and moved on, but it was interesting to watch at the very least.
Had one of these at a local arcade when I was a kid. Even then it was simply something you played once and never again. Same with Dragon's Lair. Once you found out how little control is involved you'd rarely give them the time of day and go back to the Simpson's or Xmen machines.
Is anyone familiar with a holographic arcade game that involves shooting ghosts in a kitchen setting with a refrigerator opening and maybe ghosts coming out of it? It was out sometime between the early or mid-90's. It was absolutely mesmerizing and it still bugs me to this day that I can't remember what it was called.
I remember seeing this thing at Wunderland when I was younger and being utterly amazed by it. So glad to see this so I know what the heck it actually was.
I have no idea how or why youtubes algorithm sent me this piece of nostalgia. I vaguely recall spending lots of time at the trader, and occasionally moving on. I vaguell recall having to move on in the arcade though.
The only explanations I could ever come up with for why the hero is a cowboy is A: There were only limited time periods that the Princess could choose from and the old west was the most advanced she could pull a recruit from or B: They had sent other recruits in before, and each time one failed they analyzed what went wrong then adjusted their selection criteria, and he fitted whatever criteria they were looking to match for the current attempt.
I remember when a local news station in L.A. did a segment on this game calling it the "Next wave of the future" and did some interviews with the really bad actors. I also happened to be at the Circus Circus when they premiered it there. There were people 10 deep watching the game. The funny thing was a year later it was the most barren game in the arcade.
thanks for showing this! i saw this once in an arcade on the east coast when i was a kid.i remember being like nothing you've ever seen before. ive always wanted to know what this was called. now i know lol
Oh wow! I played that fighting game. It was in a local arcade for a short time in the 90's then was removed & never spoken of. I've mentioned it for years but nobody knew what I was talking about & I didn't know the name till now!!
I played the arcade at a theater in Tacoma when my parents took us to see "Aladdin" and it was right next to Street Fighter 2. I thought that it looked awesome! I didn't get far in it but it looked great. I wish I can find one now.
Hi, have you ever heard of Xena holographic arcade game early 90's. I I played it at Bucks a sports bar in Akron. It's impossible to find anything on it. I found a guy on pub crawl who used to work there and played it all the time screen name white or grey owl. Besides him I thought I played it in a parallel world or something.
I'm waiting on the consumer version before I get one, I see no need to lay down the cash on what is soon to be the inferior product since I'm not a developer. But yeah, I cannot wait to get my hands on the final thing! VR has always intrigued me and this is the best I've seen for consumers.
I tried this game once in the arcade and immediately recognized it was nothing but a coin muncher through and through. Walked away after my first credit.
I thought you had already reviewed this game and was looking for your review of it yesterday. Then today I log on and you upload the exact review I was looking for. Coincidence?
I remember an arcade here having something like Holosseum. At least, it was a 3D fighting game but it didn't have the top cabinet part like the one you show here. It was just a clear dome. I wondered why the concept didn't take off, but it was just a gimmick. BTW the effect comes across very well in your video.
Epic work on the weightloss man ;) I am carrying far too many pounds currently! Question... is the music playing at the start off of Legend of Kyrandia? it is bugging me lol
I would LOVE it if you reviewed Freedom Fighter next. It's one of the best and most complex Laserdisc games ever (it's a FPS-like game). But, the thing is that it's un-emulated, there's only one working machine left, and the only port of the game is on the CD-i (under the title of "Escape from CyberCity"), and that port is missing a bit of levels from the arcade version.
So i got to this video while watching an episode of the old Batman animated tv show. (In my adult life 2020) Batman Blu ray box set birthday gift entire series including Mask of the Phantasm and Subzero feature length movies! Fantastic collectable item for the pop culture collector at heart! But i’m getting off track. In one episode Batman attempts to save a woman from train tracks only to find out she was a hologram. Then i got to reminiscing of the time i was waiting to see Batman Forever in theaters and there was this odd holographic arcade game that i had never seen before and never saw again! I never even got to play it because i was a 14 year old with no pocket change. I thought maybe I imagined it before i did a google search which brought here! And thats how i got here! Can you please do a review on a particular disk collection for the PC? The one that includes games such as Links Golf, Freakin' Funky Fuzzballs and some obscure FMV games like Pain and Dinosaur Safari?
I actually loved this back in the day probably because im a huge fan of Dragons Lair, but yeah the timing is incrediably hard especially on the home versions
When this came out in the arcades i was just a kid.. And let me tell you.. there was nothing like it.. it was amazing.. Cabinet and style of the machine was unforgettable. Nobody had ever seen a 3d game like this b4..
thx for the review
and LGR your bang on !! its a mass quarter stealer
I remember freaking out about it. Dropped a lot of quarters in this one.
5:25 Did he just murder 2 random innocent guys playing baseball in cold blood? What a hero.
He sure did, and the umpire and the catcher were to much in shock to react in an appropriate manner.
LOL
he didn't know the rules
wow, he pops up in the middle of a baseball game, and just shoots the players
Yeah then shoots someone's head clean off their shoulders and they burst into flames WFT!?
It all sounds plausible for a US game 😂😂😂 😢 everybody should have lots of guns and ammo yeeeehawww!!!
I thought they were the Baseball Furies.
I've literally been watching your game reviews for 4 days straight now and I just finished watching every single one. I swear, you could talk about anything and i'd be completely interested. Keep on going with your kick-ass awesomeness! (:

These I've been showing are at the Galloping Ghost in Brookfield, Illinois.
I'll never forget when I saw this arcade game at my local mall one summer. I spent so much money on that game, it was so cool. I always wondered why there weren't other Hologram games...
The music from Kyrandia 2 was a nice touch. I love your videos as nostalgia crashes into me. Ahhh, the good 'ol days.
LOL it's true. The moral of the game is basically: "Shoot everyone! Kill everything!"
That arcade cabinet looks like it was converted from a washing machine!
The only laser-disc based game I knew of as a kid was the JOURNEY band game.
OMg this was exactly how i remembered it in the arcade...
I *did* play this back in the day and watching this video was enough nostalgia for me. No need to seek it out. Thanks. Great video. I had forgotten all about this thing.

Gotta Love Galloping Ghost Arcade for having those Cabinets preserved for folks to play......for like 2 minutes since its a novelty at best ^^;
A one time free to beat games that took all my money is worth it
Oh, man, I remember this one. I've not been able to find it since I saw it in the early 90s. Thanks for posting this! I was beginning to think that I'd imagined it. I mean... it's not a great game, but the arcade display *was* fascinating tech.

I played this outside of Los Vegas in the 90's. The visual was AMAZING. It may not have been a true hologram, but you sure couldn't tell.
Between this and Dragon's Lair, it is the reason I built my pedestal arcade cabinet... cool video!
I haven't yet, which is why there's a "coming soon" note on it :)
What's with Safety Dance at the ending? Lol
There's a funny purple wizard, with a bobbling head, that gave important hints on how to play the game. Loved that character.
Glad to hear you didn't OD on snark :)
And thanks, hope you continue to enjoy, lots more is coming!
I remember seeing this at all the arcades in the early 90's. I never played it but i enjoyed messing with the holograms trying to touch them. I would, in a very serious way, love to own one of the cabinets for this.
I know, right? That one honestly caught me off-guard so I had to show it... WTF, Marshal Graham.
i used to play this in the arcade and it was so easy to memorize the moves to do i would turn my back and still beat it every time lol. i thought i was so cool and people were amazed lol
Ah, wow.... this brings back memories.

Once the expansion comes out, as always. Which isn't until October 22nd.
Apologies if you've been asked this before, but what arcade(s) do you go to with all these classic games?
Galloping ghost in Brookfield Illinois
The Luxor casino in Las vegas used to partner with Sega and they had a huge, and I mean multiple floors huge arcade with tons of Sega arcade games as well as others. I played this once, I was maybe nine or ten and I really liked the display but the actual game was not so good. Still, nostalgia.

4:26 - *DEATH BY SNU-SNU!*
Oh for sure, we've watched each other's videos basically since our channels started years ago!
We can dance if we want to.
We can leave our friends behind.
And if they don't dance, than they're no friend of mine.
'Tis a real flaw indeed.
And yes, I played this at the GG! It's not always up and running properly, but they're good about getting their games back up to snuff pretty quickly.
What's the name of the song at the end?
Amazon is where I got mine, though it's also often on eBay.

0:06 nice background music from Kyrandia 2 going on there :3

I noticed you had Bubblegum Crisis: The Screen Saver on your shelf. Never thought anime-themed screensavers existed back then.
Is that _Men Without Hats_ music at the end?
Yes it is
I remember seeing this cabinet in Galloping Ghost arcade near Chicago. Sadly it was out of order.
Don't know if it's up your alley, but a movie about some arcade lightgungames would be awesome
I remember when a local news station in L.A. did a segment on this game calling it the "Next wave of the future" and did some interviews with the really bad actors. Yep!
Did any other games use this tech? I remember some simple vehicle shooters or something back in the day.
I'm waiting on the consumer version before I get one, I see no need to lay down the cash on what is soon to be the inferior product since I'm not a developer. But yeah, I cannot wait to get my hands on the final thing! VR has always intrigued me and this is the best I've seen for consumers.
Consumer version of? Sorry I'm slow...lol
I remember this arcade when it came out. It was amazing. I was thinking about it a few days ago, what a coincidence.
I tried this game once in the arcade and immediately recognized it was nothing but a coin muncher through and through.
Walked away after my first credit.
Isn't the music at the beginning of this video from The Hand of Fate on the PC?
I thought you had already reviewed this game and was looking for your review of it yesterday. Then today I log on and you upload the exact review I was looking for. Coincidence?

I remember playing this at a holiday inn arcade and I always lost every time.
its good to se this game again, i used to play it lots down my local arcade :)
The Darkmoor Swamp theme from The Legend of Kyrandia 2.
I was obsessed with this game when it came out!!!
i remember seeing Holosseum in some arcade ( and playing it ) in the US, but i never knew there was an 'original' version to it.
I only ever saw Holosseum, didn't think much of it. Went back to playing TMNT in the arcade.
That music in the beginning . . . is that from Kyrandia?
So i got to this video while watching an episode of the old Batman animated tv show. (In my adult life 2020) Batman Blu ray box set birthday gift entire series including Mask of the Phantasm and Subzero feature length movies! At least I didn’t imagine it.
seems you got to test out those KYRANDIA games since you use the music in the beginning, i think i remember you mentioned you never played them before
Wasn't the music at the beginning from Kyrandia 2?!?!?
I gotta agree i played this in the arcade when i was a kid and this game was bad ass and amazing lol.
Have you ever been to Nickel City in Northbrook?
I've started watching your videos very recently. been searching but havent found anything related on your channel. How come you've never mentioned or reviewed Dungeon Keeper 1 or 2? They are amazing games!
The Wolf Among Us is AWESOME. I hope you do a look at LGR style for this telltale bout of wonderment and fur. Or arm hair.
Is that Galloping Ghost you shoot arcade machine footage for your videos?? I live in St. Louis and want to make the trip up there just to check it out. Looks totally worth it! I miss arcades...
I come back to this review just to see the Wizard at 4:31 again, it almost sounds like Clint putting on a silly voice
Oh, what's the song at the beginning? At first it sounds like boss music from Earthbound, but then it changes.
Could you do a review on Primal Rage before Arcade August ends? I would friggin' love to know your opinion on it!
That's at Galloping Ghost In Brookfield IL!
Can you please do a review on a particular disk collection for the PC? The one that includes games such as Links Golf, Freakin' Funky Fuzzballs and some obscure FMV games like Pain and Dinosaur Safari?
I used to love this as a kid . But I never played it I just staired at the animation . I'd love to try the dvd . Where did you buy it . ? .
Was that the galloping ghost in Brookfield Illinois
I actually loved this back in the day probably because im a huge fan of Dragons Lair, but yeah the timing is incrediably hard especially on the home versions
Since you can play Dragon's Lair on the DSi, could Time Traveller and Holosseum be converted for the 3DS?
I remember seeing this in a games magazine when I was younger, and thinking to myself... WHAT IN THE FLYING FUCK IS THIS I DON'T EVEN
