The worst was when she scratched her face and threatened to call the police on me, even though I had never touched her. She managed to create tension in my family, while on the other hand I gave everything to get her to contact her family again, which I managed to do in the end. The more time passed, the more she wanted me to prove my love for her. I wasn't allowed to go out anymore, just having a student job drove her crazy and she cried because she said I was leaving her alone. I ended the relationship when she started hitting and biting me in the middle of a party with her friends. She even convinced them that I was to blame. She even spread the word in all my social circles that I was a monster during our relationship and that I often hit her. I ended up gaining weight, distancing myself from my family, developing self-confidence issues. I lost friends and fell into very bad habits to forget what I was going through with her. (drinking and gambling) Oh yes. Fun fact. She found a guy a week after we broke up. :) Obviously, I'm at fault for giving up everything for her. As someone who has been married for over a decade, we are not obsessed with the gift giving stuff. Valentines is a candy only holiday for us. Some years we get each other Christmas presents, sometimes not. We don't do gifts on our anniversary, just dinner somewhere. My birthday is the only required gift day on that list, but so is his. We like to keep things low stress, so our goal is that family traditions should be fun. If its not fun, what's the point of a holiday?

A few years ago I was in a relationship with a girl, which lasted two and a half years. I made the huge mistake of trying to save her. She had a broken family, a complicated past and a lot of trauma. I am a 7.5/10, and she is a 6/10.
Before I dated her, I always had time for myself. Excellent musician, brilliant at university, very active social life, a lean muscular body.
During the relationship she would often yell at me for details, the neighbours even thought I was hitting her. She was always asking me weird questions, giving me ultimatums for nothing. The worst was when she scratched her face and threatened to call the police on me, even though I had never touched her. She managed to create tension in my family, while on the other hand I gave everything to get her to contact her family again, which I managed to do in the end.
The more time passed, the more she wanted me to prove my love for her. I wasn't allowed to go out anymore, just having a student job drove her crazy and she cried because she said I was leaving her alone. I ended the relationship when she started hitting and biting me in the middle of a party with her friends. She even convinced them that I was to blame. She even spread the word in all my social circles that I was a monster during our relationship and that I often hit her.
I ended up gaining weight, distancing myself from my family, developing self-confidence issues. I lost friends and fell into very bad habits to forget what I was going through with her. (drinking and gambling)
Oh yes. Fun fact. She found a guy a week after we broke up. :)
Obviously, I'm at fault for giving up everything for her. But I'm writing this in case someone is going through or has gone through the same thing as me. For the same reason women keep men in their friendzone. Because there's some kind of benefit. A friendzoned guy gets used for validation, emotional support, help whenever she needs it, and maybe resources.
The opposite is the friend with benefits. A man will keep a woman in his life he doesn't want a relationship with likely because she is a reliable supply of sex, and maybe some other benefit.

for my past 2 long term relationships (3 & 4.3 years), I set a rule of no giftgiving- special shared experiences only. That was eventually appreciated. After 26 months alone, I think I'll be fine for rest of my life, though it sometimes sucks to have no family, and friends who are too busy to meet. I sure don't regret my vasectomy!
