I as a dude used to have the same "oh I care about personality not looks" mentality when I was a teenager. But then I analyzed my own behaviour and realized that I was lying to myself to make myself feel like I was less shallow. What I actually meant when I said "I don't care about looks just personality" was that once a girl makes my minimum looks threshold, I don't care about looks, only personality. But if a girl didn't make my minimum looks threshold, I didn't even see her as an option. She was invisible to me from a relationship standpoint. So to give an example, if my minimum looks threshold is a 6 our of 10, and I have 3 girls, ones a 4, ones a 6 and ones an 8, I'll take whoever has the Better personality out of the 6 or the 8, but the 4 is never an option regardless of how good her personality is, at best, she's a friend. Many women think this exact way but I guess they lack the self awareness to figure it out. Or they know and don't want to expose themselves

I wonder how much of women's self-report is due to a lack of self-awareness rather than a lie. My experience of women (and I'm a mental health counselor, so I get into a lot of intimate conversations) is that they don't really know what makes their own sexuality work. In addition, there is a study I remember where women had the same genital blood flow as men in response to pornography, but they reported little or no increase in sexual desire in response to viewing porn. This makes me think that it's possible that women are actually wired to NOT know what turns them on. I think that part of how human courtship works is that women present themselves as intermittently interested in men, so that they create a random intermittent reinforcement schedule to incentivize male resource provision. I have no data to support this, but it sure looks this way to me as my experience as an "average guy" is that women are not reliably interested in sex. Yeah I have to agree. I've also noticed that there are many "straight" women who will start dating other women for the reason that "men don't treat them right". I think women really do think they like personality more, and that's because average or below average guys are basically invisible to them, they don't enter into the equation. When they say they care more about personality, they're saying they'd prefer a 8/10 with an amazing personality over and 10/10 who's abusive. So true about attractiveness pay gap. As a male nurse I was rated from an 8 to a 10 by my female nurse coworkers. One day a director of nursing walked in from another nursing home and walked up to me among all the other nurses and asked me how much I was making. Women are friendlier, they smile more, they talk more, they are more physical. What you see is that a lot of men find a lot of women desirable and their behavior(good and bad) shows it. The lack of such a strong feed back from women does not mean women don't care about looks the most, it means that they find a lot of men are not attractive enough to generate a strong desirable feedback. This creates a massive imbalance in which women can be picky from their wealth of options, so they can demand more than just companionship and sex. It does not strike me as a conincidence that the exponential increase in the number of people identifying as transgender also matches the exponential increase in female hypergamy. The simplistic interpretation would be that men are unable to find girlfriends and instead choose to "become" the girlfriend as a coping mechanism. As for men who are attracted to transgender women, it would be a case of having no options with cisgender women and therefore having their biological instincts "tricked" by a male who superficially appears female. I as a dude used to have the same "oh I care about personality not looks" mentality when I was a teenager. But then I analyzed my own behaviour and realized that I was lying to myself to make myself feel like I was less shallow.
What I actually meant when I said "I don't care about looks just personality" was that once a girl makes my minimum looks threshold, I don't care about looks, only personality. But if a girl didn't make my minimum looks threshold, I didn't even see her as an option. She was invisible to me from a relationship standpoint.
So to give an example, if my minimum looks threshold is a 6 our of 10, and I have 3 girls, ones a 4, ones a 6 and ones an 8, I'll take whoever has the Better personality out of the 6 or the 8, but the 4 is never an option regardless of how good her personality is, at best, she's a friend.

If it was a real number, I would often be taking the girl out to dinner and then get ghosted. This happened for years. When I had a girlfriend, I usually met her through someone I knew. In my 30's, I concentrated on my career and my well being. At 39, I met my attractive wife who is a decade younger than me. I wonder how much of women's self-report is due to a lack of self-awareness rather than a lie. My experience of women (and I'm a mental health counselor, so I get into a lot of intimate conversations) is that they don't really know what makes their own sexuality work. In addition, there is a study I remember where women had the same genital blood flow as men in response to pornography, but they reported little or no increase in sexual desire in response to viewing porn. This makes me think that it's possible that women are actually wired to NOT know what turns them on. I think that part of how human courtship works is that women present themselves as intermittently interested in men, so that they create a random intermittent reinforcement schedule to incentivize male resource provision. I have no data to support this, but it sure looks this way to me as my experience as an "average guy" is that women are not reliably interested in sex. I think that not being aware when they are turned on is part of female psychology, simply because it incentivizes this random intermittent reinforcement schedule in their relationships with their suitors.

I think women really do think they like personality more, and that's because average or below average guys are basically invisible to them, they don't enter into the equation. When they say they care more about personality, they're saying they'd prefer a 8/10 with an amazing personality over and 10/10 who's abusive. Personality only starts being important when you get into a relationship. Before that, physical appearance is the only thing that matters. Also, in cases of extremely good looks personality does not matter even after establishing a relationship. Case in point: women staying with abusive partners and defending them.

She friend zoned me initially but after she became a widow she told she likes me too. It's worth pointing out that this data for the first study was collected from 4 minute speed dating interactions. Hardly a fighting chance for personality to win over looks. I'm on board with the scientific approach but it would be useful to include an analysis of how the data was collected and analyzed and potential shortcomings (like you did in the later studies).

Hi Wheat I would be interested to hear if you have any views on transgenderism (both males who transition to female, and the men who are attracted to them)? It does not strike me as a conincidence that the exponential increase in the number of people identifying as transgender also matches the exponential increase in female hypergamy. The simplistic interpretation would be that men are unable to find girlfriends and instead choose to "become" the girlfriend as a coping mechanism. As for men who are attracted to transgender women, it would be a case of having no options with cisgender women and therefore having their biological instincts "tricked" by a male who superficially appears female. I would be interested in hear your take on this though because I don't feel satisfied that this is the only explanation.

Another thought, the numbers on women that transition to male only to find out how hard it is to date women as a man so they transition back to women and date as lesbians(like the woman that lived as a man for a year and had to go to therapy to cope with the trauma of how lonely it was) I would love to see a video on those numbers as well.

As a bi man who recently came out and started dating men it has been night and day difference. I get hit on, guys have made so much more effort, one guy drove an hour and a half to come see me. I had driven to meet women but never the reverse so I was shocked. He was so sweet and made everything easy I was so turned on by the effort. It didn't work out cause distance and work schedules meant we would never see each other.

@@SpawnDevWomen judge WAY more with looks but guys do as well but it's different. I've had a couple hook ups with guys who were actually quite good looking but we're so down themselves. They were bi and all said the same thing women were so mean to them based on their looks. I had lost 100 pounds so I gave them some brotherly advice and they all walked away alot happier and more confident.
I feel like men judge way less then women like in general a guy doesn't care about height or income. Most guys will even overlook appearance if there is a good enough connection.

Blind women STILL care about looks, It's biologically hard wired, and they don't need eyesight to know if you're a good genetic specimen, They can use their hands and feel all the relevant information they need to know (height, hair, jaw line, cheek bones, shoulders/frame, ..etc), and the things they can't see (like race/skin cooler, eye color), people will provide them for her. I think most women really believe, that they don't care about looks much, because they are naturally very aware of the negative consequences of choosing a bad provider based on the personality traits of one. If women would be more aware about this dissonance, they would also benefit by keeping heartbreakes away
What happens now is women in their 20s typically get pumped and dumped by Chads. Then once they start reaching 30s and aren't as attractive anymore, they realize that they can't change the bad boy chads and can't lock him down so they go for a beta provider. Beta provider also ends up losing cuz he gets a damaged woman who has been used as a cumdumpster by chads.
“Stopping at crosswalks” has to be second! Only two out of the last ten times I have approached a crosswalk alone have the first cars in both directions stopped for me. But, all four of four times my wife walked with me did the primary cars stop in both directions.
