Very few people will watch this whole video! This man is speaking 100% truth. There are very little followers and money made teaching direct easy methods of self defense...like me, we all wanted that "Badassary" to show skills so we can make others think we are deadly...but NEVER used any of it in real life saving situations! I have alot to rethink about my 40+ yrs of training😳. Thank you Tim, great Video! I will read his book!
Our young males are hungry for mentors because of the absence of fathers in their lives. A lot of them believe in the fantasy of the Hollywood "fight" and think if they learn a system that's all they need. I trained in LV at Tim's place but I practice, listen, learn from a lot of people. No system will save you in violence but observation and a calm thought process will help you survive. Thank you TIm, I'm really enjoying your channel.
Humility is a quiet and deliberate confidence. Stated differently if a guy tells me he knows everything about horses he would be the last son of a bitch I'd trust to clean out stalls . Y'all have my respect and confidence
Thanks, Tim I don't carry a knife anymore because of the legal ramifications of using it. I never want to be in a situation in which violence is necessary. That said, you taught me how to be successful if all avoidance fails - even successful without a knife. Thanks for training me, Tim. TFT was very worth my time and money. You did me a solid. Thank you again.
Once again many thanks for amazing content! I have been following TFT for quite a long time and I am glad to see their are like minded instructors out there.
Just listening to him brought to mind 2 incidents in my own life where I was able to avoid using violence with very violent and dangerous people. I hadnt thought of them in awhile but the two he described (ex con trying to roll him, lady with a gun) and how he got out of both without resorting to Violence just reinforced in me I already had used what he was talking about without ever getting "Trained" in it, or working from a script. Maybe the lesson is, when violence isnt immediate, you might have options beyond Violence as the Tool to use first. But if you do, you best have already had Training in how to. Thanks for the interviews.
said to me:”You must defend self with lethal force. Just be very clear on the ramifications of that and maybe start paying some structured attention to the steps on the road leading up to that moment where The Bad Thing comes for you.” Everywhere you can, just smoothly and purposefully choose the way that reduces the real probabilities of The Bad Thing happening without unduely deviating from your general course or adding unacceptable friction or encumbrance. Like where and when you go, how you respond to the shoulder bump, cultivating self-control, having mission parameters, grooved in procedures and capabilities (like moving fast over rough ground in the dark encumbered by a sack of potatoes) , etc, so that you can respond to what is actually coming at you rather than having to plan based on a guess which you have incomplete data for, and that you have to do beforehand or on the fly, during the fight, thus taking your attention away from your murderer. Not good. Plus this planning is a higher order brain function that shuts down early under extreme duress. Just continuously and purposefully enjoy the increased ability for YOU to be the one who decides when, how, and where the violence comes, and when it stops, and for what purpose. Continuously increase Self-determination Makes it a lot easier in many ways, especially psychologically / socially / spiritually when you do have to cause an attack to cease. Essentially, you take less integration damage to your person, who you feel or see yourself to be, because you are not ripping your fundamental orientation anchors out. It leaves your picture of yourself that you are comfortable inhabiting with reduced damage and more easily diagnosed and addressed. So yeah, stab the shit out of him with maximum savagery until the attack ceases if that is what it takes for you or your loved ones to continue to live, just don’t close your eyes while you are doing it. Strong Peace.
Thank you for actually reading Boyd and his Acolytes. You sound like you truly understand Boyd. You're correct about Chuck Spinney's presentation of Boyd's "cycle." You can find his presentation on UA-cam. Boyd wanted people to take his ideas forward and develop their own.
Thanks Tim Seen a few things myself Thanks for the education in real volience Too many people push Hollywood fantasy fighting Which if u try to use it ends badly for you
Hey Varg, I'm part of the Kali Industry and I have to say most of what's taught in Kali is Art... Nothing more. When it comes to actual combat it's about stabbing and stabbing often and as violent as you can. The artsy stuff is to get people to sign up for repeating classes. I don't like that so I end up being broke
Great points but 2 things I would like to add... 1. The carrying of a knife I've found tens to also be Cultural. I'm from Ohio where if I saw someone carrying a knife, yes, I would think he very well intends on using it at some point (no pun intended ;) ). When I moved to Tennessee, I've found that probably 1 out of 5 Males between 18 and 50 carry a knife. It's just what they do here. Mostly as a "tool" but still, they carry. 2. As a Kali practitioner, yes there is a lot of slashing but there are systems such as Pekiti Tersia and Harimau Berentai (albeit Silat) that do more thrusting and try to focus more on quantity than quality of attach points. That being said, in Kali we do try to focus on vital targets so that A. we know where they are (which every region of the body has them) and B. because just like anything in self-protection, nothing is foolproof but you always want to increase your odds and likelihood of success. So, knowing vital targets is vital...and yes, that Pun WAS intended :). Just like the specific targets that Tim teaches. It should be the go to if available but we also need to be prepared when their not.
It's always necessary to understand WHY there are a lot of slashes in Kali/Escrima/Arnis. Those are for swords/machetes. To make limbs non functional or gone, and to make the neck/head non functional or gone. It's sword fighting/fencing not a five hour dance. The root is effective and efficient warfare not exercise or artistry. Both Mr Freeborn and Mr Larkin are right about there being an element of tribalism with Kali. There's a layer of American nonsense tribalism, but also within the Philippines there was, and still is, a strong element of competitiveness and sometimes open hostility (including localised warfare) over whose system was/is better. If it isn't obvious from the above, that side of no nonsense warfare FMA isn't what most people are doing in the US. And it sure ain't a nice neat fit with US self defence law. Take a look at what US marines who were stationed in the Phillipines were taught by the locals during WWII. That's what Kali/escrima/arnis really are. It's about killing using weapons and not about looking cool doing a bunch of flashy sinawali drills.
Varg seems like a very humble man. I'm glad he didn't decide to take out that woman waving a gun at him. Would have been a disaster legally, financially, and emotionally. I'd carry a Samurai sword if I could but that would look and be ridiculous. I carry an ASP baton now as a less than lethal force option, and only occasionally carry a blade, along with my CC water pistol. Great interview, I'm reading the intro to "Beyond OODA" in the Kindle cloud.
Tim, No disrespect intended, but did you vet this guy? My training and experience tells me, some of this guys stories are contrived. At the very least, he has demonstrated enough possible tells, it’s officially distracting me.
@@bobadams7654 In my opinion, he is using too many filler words and there were a few instances where the things he was saying, just didn't make sense. This does not mean he his lying,I don't know that he is. I am only saying that, if he was sitting in front of me ( as a peace officer) I would be highly skeptical and looking to trip him up.

Great content, but the audio is a bit challenging. I have the volume turned up quite a bit and it's still not 100% clear. Excellent video, though.
Presently reading Rory Miller's ConCom book, but definitely reading Varg's books next.
"reality is off-putting." seriously TRUE!
Thank you for sharing and inspiring us all to train hard and smart

Fascinating ..!!
Is there a website for Varg Freeborn? Does he offer any training other than his books?
Numerous things Varg has said makes me curious as to what his feelings are towards Craig Douglas's stuff. Anyone know?
