Back from a time when music had drama, and unfolded, patiently, as it told a story.

Yep, or as I said in another LZ comment: "Back when music took its time."

This song is a great example of how deep LZ's portfolio is. It's an amazing song and yet rarely mentioned, and hardly ever played on the radio. Singer Robert Plant as a teenager had a girlfriend who gave him an ultimatum: his music or her. He chose the music, and 10 years later wrote this song.
    Great reaction as always.

Another underrated classic by Led Zeppelin. This group was so fortunate to have one of the greatest Rock voices/performer in Robert Plant & arguably the greatest top 3 guitar player in Jimmy Page and the Drummer was top knotch as well.

This song was about a choice Robert needed to make early in his life, before he was famous. He was romantically involved with a woman who made him choose between their love for each other, or his musical career. A crossroads. Robert chose to pursue his dreams of a musical career. This song is a reflection - 10 years later - of the choice Robert had to make.

As meaningful and deep and explorative as the lyrics may seem it's always best just to listen to their music as a whole. Led Zeppelin defied category.

Such a great band. Zeppelin completely changed the landscape of music that still influences people today and can never be replicated. All instruments played by real people and on top of that, these 4 guys were masters of their instruments. Check out their Houses of the Holy album.

When Robert was young, his love didn't want him to be chasing all over the place playing music and essentially gave him a choice - her or music. The parting had been a sad one. He had a vivid dream about her 10 years later. (Vixen in my dreams - a great surprise to me. I never thought I'd see your face the way it used to be.")
He woke up feeling emotional about her again. "10 years gone, still holdin' on..."

I saw you jump but I also saw your smile. One of my favorites by Zeppelin. I get surprised when I see people your age listen to the music of my youth and their head doesn't explode, haha. There were people my age that hated any kind of heavy music... I never understood that.

Just to let u guys know, this song was originally was met to be a Instrumental, but lead vocalist Robert Plant came-up with lyrics from when he was in this relationship with a woman which she gave him an Ultimatum. It’s her, or his Career as a musician. Of course he choose the music and Ten Years after the brake-up they saw each other again.
The way he phrases things in this song is total Poetry, so you should download the lyrics and for sure you’ll see it.
There are so many elements that makes all parts of this song amazing from each member. A Classic.

This song is very lush, there are many guitar overdubs to give it a very rich sound as well as a melodic bass line. I love how they effortlessly flow between opposites of fast/slow, soft/hard, etc. yet always manage to seamlessly return to the beginning. This one is especially melodic and soothing. I think you should try some funk next and do Trampled Under Foot.

Tektoniks had this right, but the real juicy bit here is that it was the older sister of the woman he married and had 2 children with while he was a touring member with LZ! They were divorced in the 80s (they lost their 5 yr old son to a stomach virus in 77, ending they're final US tour 10 dates short of completion!), and he went back to the older sister, presumably the girl in this song (Ten years Gone)! I don't think they ever married, but they did have at least one child together, so mix all of that into your lyrical analysis!

The great bands had great albums. You would put the album on and listen to the whole side, no skipping songs, and very tactile. You would hold the album in your hand look at the art work or read who had written and produced the song. Every Zep album is different from the previous. This was such a great tune and album.

Hey Marie, thanks for the msg back. I see you've reacted to pink Floyd as well, Kool. This is a MUST!! TOOL... The band "TOOL". There similar to Floyd but on a super power steroid. The drummer " Danny Carey" in my opinion, one of the best ever. This guy beats the crap out of the drums and does it effortlessly. I think you might like them🎼
