St. Joseph Abbey
Well here it is folks, my annual honey harvest video, and as I predicted, it was a very small one. Of course, that was not the fault of the bees, rather, the fault of Mother Nature. Still all in all, the bees managed a small surplus of honey and added to what was left over from 2 years ago, I still will manage to supply honey to the Gift Shop for this year as well. And not only that, the bees were able to store enough honey in their hives so I will not have to feed them through the winter. Now that's something I'm very happy about.
Also, I did a follow up on the wall quilt Mona made for me at the end of the video, and I certainly hope you will check that part of the video out as well. Thank you all so much for taking the time to watch, and all the other blessings you bestow on me as well, I am so grateful for it all. God's peace.

Jeff, I had the NY Bee Inspector yesterday give my hive a clean bill of health and a 0 mite count. Thank you Jesus. And, an extra bonus, full capped Queen cell with 2 others charged so he helped me make my 1st split. I now have 2 hives with awesome genetics. The biggest blessing yesterday was my wife’s blood work was negative after fear 6 months ago that her cancer returned. God blessed me more than I deserve yesterday. Your videos have really helped with bee keeping and the positivity they give. Have a blessed day.

Are you the same gentleman who came to the Mandeville library in the 1990s to talk about your bee keeping to the children, and handed out beeswax and straws of honey to them? If so, we still talk about that experience and we still have the beeswax also. It was the best show and tell ever.
Yes I am, and I am now keeping the bees for the monks at St. Joseph Abbey in Covington. I do remember going to the library on Girod St. and making a presentation. In general it sounds like folks all over got about 1/5-1/4 of the normal season's worth. Something is better then nothing. 🤷♂️ She did a great job on the quilt, and it was a lot easier to see close up. Thanks!

Honey video is great too also alot of work. But if you love what you do it never feels like work feels like joy.
Since I see how much work and time Mona puts into every one of the quilts she makes, I can testify it's a long, drawn out process. Simply to come up with a design and then see that design through is just an incredible amount of creativity. As disappointing as the harvest's size was, it still was a joy sharing the experience with everyone. Thank you so much for your continued support for my bee wrangling adventures. God's peace.

God bless you, how long does it takes for bees to clean frames extracted, and are they agressive to sting or just in hype for honey. Another thing, how comb looks after bees clean it up, I suppose there will be wax everywhere, but how ussable are combs, can bees reuse them right away if they are returned back to hive.
The bees will have the frames all cleaned out in a matter of days, they are VERY fast. While they are cleaning the frames of the residual honey, they are not aggressive at all and if you watch till the end of the video, we close out the video with all of us standing among them. The bees do not destroy or damage the comb as they clean it up, in fact, they actually will get most of the small wax particles out of the cells and drop them to the bottom of the box where I collect it, and you will see this on an upcoming video. After the honey harvest the boxes and frames are stored till the following spring when they will be used once again. Hi from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺. It's winter here atm.We have had a shortage of rain 🌧 this winter. Australia is suffering from varroa mite, a killer of the European honeybee, was detected outside an eradication zone in the Hunter Valley. This is so devastating the government is making a lot of bee keepers burn the hives even without evidence of the Varroa might, and it is so sad. I ❤ your channel. You care for the bees 🐝 in more ways than one.

Jeff, loved the video! We are modeling our extraction line similar to yours. We have a 60 frame Hubbard with an auger pump at the bottom. Pumping the honey slurry directly into drums on caddies. We use a DIY hot motorize uncapping knife (there are plans for an upgrade as funds allow). Pumping directly into barrels and letting gravity settle the honey has removed our biggest bottleneck during the extraction process. Just wanted you to know how much your videos mean to folks like us. I hope to one day visit the Abbey and the Apiary. Thank you and God Bless!

I'm an old bee keeper from late 70's . I lost my bees over the yrs. (UNEXPECTED CROP DUSTER and other factors). I'm going to try to start again next yr. My 1st. hive came from a keeper that had 300+ hives. He made me come over and take classes before I could have my hive. Learned a lot from him. Altus,Okla. was where we were located. He showed me how to make a solar wax meter that worked very well. Really enjoyed your video. Lots of good info online nowdays. Again thanks for sharing.

@@JeffHorchoff I know she does not like being on camera. Neither do I. I am usually the one taking the pics. But when this hand shaking came on I can barely take a straight pic anymore. I shake so bad on bad days I cannot even butter my bread. On good days I can still take a straight pic. I hope you two find the joy that Mike and I have found. This November we will have been married 53 years. We have one great granddaughter. That is a new thrill. God bless you both.

Hi Jeff and Miss Mona. The quilt is a beautiful piece. She did a wonderful job on it. Very creative and thoughtful. I hope the honey haul this year was enough and that the bees will be alright through the fall and winter. It's been very hot in Montreal as well. We are hitting 28c (82.4f) to over 30 c with high humidex readings. (if it gets to 80F here, they call it HOT, if it reaches 30c or higher, that would be 86F and above, they call it a heatwave for (30's more than three days running) Then people start to die. We don't have AC in our homes, only heating. Unless you have inbuilt central air or use a window unit to cool your home. (we have one window ac unit for the whole apartment) Yesterday we had torrential rain, thunder and lightening, and tornados. It got as dark as night in the middle of the day.
I could not imagine life without air conditioning. I really feel sorry for folks who would not normally need it suddenly find out they do.Stay cool brother. Thanks for watching. God's peaceJeremy.

Wow... just WOW! I'm happy with a pound of honey and love buying honey from my local beekeeper. But 1000 lbs...Wow. I can't get enough of all the beekeepers, so amazing. The quilt is over the top. I sew but not at that level. You are truly blessed.

Mona is truly talented. So many skills on one quilt. When you said Mona had been working on it for ages, I assumed you were going to say years not months!! You have no idea how much work has gone into that quilt until you have tried it.
All kinds of harvests seem to have been low this year. Better results next time hopefully.

Love your content Mr Ed, got my biggest honey pull this year of just under 400 lbs. But I'm expecting more next year since my neighbor is letting me plant 30 acres of flowers on his hunting plot for my bees and as a food plot to attract more deer

Good thing you are not here. This weekend is supposed to be in the 110's. I wish we had that yet. Bet you don't get to 110. We had 105+ the last 18 days. Yesterday cloudy skies blocked the sun. It only got to 101. A nice summer day. When you get into the 110's you cannot touch your car without getting a burn on your hand.
God bless you and all those who help you do what you do. The love of God's creatures. Keeping bees is sustainable even in a low nectar year. Thank God for keeping your hives alive and not failing like so many have all over the world.
God provides for us and He provides for bees also.
