i’ve been carrying mine on my nightly walks with my dogs after using two previous versions for years. I have a small 300 lumen headlight to see things while we walk, and carry this light in the event of coming across four or two legged animals, or to get the attention of drivers who don’t see two dogs and a 200 pound guy with a headlamp legally crossing the road in the dark. After my dog got hit by a car that ran a stop sign in spite of me being in a well lit intersection with the headlamp on, I will hit the strobe pointed at the ground when we start walking across the road, and won’t hesitate to direct it at the driver if a car is getting too close or not slowing down. it’s numbers game out on the roads after dark and this improves my odds.
Great real world example... I doubt they'd miss the near 9000 lumen strobe if they got too close. I'm interested to see where they take this series, continue to improve the heatsinking, brightness. I see they have a UHi100 LED which must create a ton of heat...
I got this light last week. Great light and interface. For the next version, give me a stirke bezel and glass breakers on the front, Other than that, they are on a great path.
For these flat lights, I think I like the idea of the side aux lights on the Rovyvons. If you get so little time with the brighter outputs, I figure I should just go with the strobe on the Rovyvons.
I think Nitecore just went all out with the lumen output. I've seen better turbo runtimes on my RovyVon E30 Pro, but less than half the output @3500 lumens and it's also made of aluminium instead of steel...
@@DarrenYeoYT would you agree that the E30 pro is a better overall EDC light thougn? Lighter, shorter, less hot, more waterproof, more useful features, moonlight, better run times, less drop down, bigger battery. I have the E30 pro and I want the EDC29 for the fun factor, but can't see it replacing my E30 pro in terms of EDC. That said, I use red light a lot on my EDC lights. I've also heard a few stories of the EDC27 buttons losing their "click" after being dropped only a few feet, perhaps they've fixed that in the EDC29 but it makes me wary. Obviously it destroys the E30 pro on max lumens, but it seems more of a flat tactical light than an EDC light. Perhaps they'll release a waterproof EDC29 pro at some point that irons out a few issues. If nitecore were to add warm white/red/uv sidelights without losing lumens, that would be an incredible light. I guess that would mean a bigger size or smaller battery though. Rovyvon 14:46 have done well to get sidelights into the E30 pro despite a larger 19:17 battery than all the competition.
PS I'm just about to watch this video but if there's no direct comparison with the E30 pro, that would be great to see in another video once you've used them both for a while. Cheers.
@@DarrenYeoYTthat would be fantastic. ? Do love that throw/flood balance on the EDC29. Easily beats the E30 pro on throw. My go to these days is E30 pro with a baton turbo in a jacket pocket, which takes care of any distance throw needs that might arise. And you barely know your carrying it too.
I hope so, I just got the edc23 it's amazing! coming from carrying a streamlight microstream. But if they make a smaller edc29 I will definitely get it @@DarrenYeoYT
Great to see an Aussie review - no bs, just an honest review and info. I’d like one, but need the high power for aircraft tail inspections (A380). How much are these retailing for? Hi from Sydney
Hey mate, thanks... I always give my honest opinion on these lights. Just remember the high power (3000/6500 lumen) mode only lasts a few seconds. But the 1200 lumen mode will give you some better sustained output numbers. Might want to check the light meter graph in my video and see if the throw figures on high mode will accommodate for the length of aircraft / distance you're standing from the plane. I've seen them for about $150 AUD on eBay. Amazon maybe up to 200.
This seems like a very specific purpose-driven flasghlight, definitely the best at what it's trying to do. Leaning 200% towards tactical use, if I were nitecore I would only add a spiked stainless steel bezel, otherwise it's perfect IMO.
Somebody please tell me I’m wrong so I stop thinking about this. With all these flat tactical flashlights coming out how has nobody added a knife blade to one of them? This way if it had like at least a flipper or an auto if you’re really actually being attacked first, you blind the person and while you’re blinding them, you flipped the blade open so that if they do keep coming at you and you have to actually use the blade You would have it. Even if it’s just like a tiny blade so that you’re not gonna really accidentally kill the person. I think the bezels would be cool but if you had a blade, you could just use it for every day purposes and hopefully chances are you’re never gonna need it unless you get struck by lightning. With the new flat form factor even if it’s just for EDC use why not have a blade on one side and a flashlight on the other side? I see a huge opportunity for somebody to make money and if I had a machine shop I would do it myself and sell 1 million of them. It just makes sense to combine a really slim flashlight with a blade. And if you want to get really crazy, I keep thinking about like a Swiss Army style self-defense, tool kit, flashlight that has a really bright light, a stun gun, pepper, spray, and an automatic knife blade that will come out if you absolutely Have to use lethal force.😂
Issie with that is they would severely limit their market - for example in Australia that would be considered a controlled weapon and you'd get into a lot of trouble... @@StarDarkAshes
To give credit where credit is due, the SureFire Stiletto, Stiletto 2, and Stiletto Pro 2 were the first flashlights on the market based on the "blade" design. SureFire is no longer the trailing brand it once was, but they were the one who innovated on this front. Nitecore, Rovyvon, and other Chinese brands have culminated this blade design - with Nitecore introducing the UHi LED, an LED specifically designed for use in flashlights. The 6,500 lumens output of the EDC29 is thermally limited, but the latter remains a perfect 1K lumens flashlight with an incredible breadth of use cases; tactical utilisation being the most relevant, followed by professional and utility usages. I doubt the flashlight blade design will ever reach the mainstream market, because it is intrinsically expensive to manufacture, because it requires an heat spreader separated from the casing and naturally expensive LED types. The flashlight blade design is a new, worthwhile, and efficient design - but it doesn't lend itself into cheap applications. Greetings, Anthony
DY: _"Two thousand, five hundred milliAmp-hour cell in there..."_ I'm impressed, since most of my Convoy, Sofirn and Wurkkos 18650 flashlights have just a lowly VapCell M35 in them. 😳
I think for most applications, a 300 to 500 lumen light is more than enough. How many people would you anger by walking down your street with a 1k lumen light? I bought this upon release and I haven't had the need to go above 400lm. This actually goes for just about all my flashlights. I don't live in a particularly dark area, and use most of my lights on "medium" when I'm outside. I have four Nitecore lights now. The EDC27, 29, 33, and MT1A Pro. Just my opinion...but the Search and Lumen Shield modes are more than a gimmick than anything else. To impress your non flashlight friends. Imagine you are in a real emergency situation and need the turbo modes. How bad would it be for the light to step down after 30 seconds when you need it most? I like these lights because of the gadget factor...but I would not use them in a real emergency...especially if I need my light to hold the high lumens.
I agree with the 3-500 lumen comment! And we get more than enough runtime on that mode. But I think the ultra high mode could come in handy one day if you needed to disorient someone in self defence for a few seconds while you run off. The strobe mode can be enabled too, which takes longer to step down.
I think Nitecore realises that many people (like myself) will prioritise portability at the expense of sustained output etc. but I'm a city slicker so don't need that anyway.
I myself and I think a lot of flashoholics buy flashlights for that exact reason.. the gimmicky and absurd amount of lumens. It’s the fact that this small device can put out that kind of power and have all that technology in that small device.
Still watching....but battery replaceable yet? No? Then not worth the price these go for. If you are going to make it disposable by sealing in the battery, the price needs to be considerably less to compensate.

Hi, Is it possible to set fire to paper or a cigarette with this flashlight? 🤔
Dark paper maybe. Not white paper. It might light a cigarette but it'd be a bit messy

Strike bezel would be great. But they'd get snagged by airport security though.
I love mine. Walking in the forest using this makes it incredibly diverse. Many nights I have spotted animals with the 6500 flood light.

I was thinking... Imagine if they put vapour chamber cooling on these. They're normally used on CPUs, for confined spaces like this.
But they're very expensive to produce.

Decent for flat-light but the stainless steel case also decreases heat transmission.

They'd severely limit their market as that would be classified as a controlled weapon in some countries like Aus.
