Currently running a Deere X340, a great machine for what it is, which has a 54” deck. Mowing about 3 acres around the house plus another 1.5 that I do once in awhile. The 3 acres takes about 1:45. Been considering going Zturn or stander for awhile. When the 340 has had it, I’m thinking a 61” deck...maybe a Cheetah, Wright X/ZK, Toro 4000, Deere Z9xx. Not sure. We’ll see. Gonna be a long time before that 340 shits out. It’s tough as hell.
Those old John Deeres go a long time. It'll give you plenty of time to decide which way to go. You may check out the Tiger Cat 2, I've heard good things about that mower as well.
Those zero turns are nice, especially if you have a lot of grass. For people like myself I would not get one. Pretty difficult to put a snowblower on it. I mowed about 9 acres of grass on my grandparents farm with their 316.
You're probably right. However, I am trying to keep the grass taller in this area while I'm grazing my cows in this section of my property. More than anything I was knocking down any weeds so that the good grass could get sun. I'm due for sharpening my blades in the next week or so as well.

Suggest you lower deck. Stems flex making you mow twice. Not a time saver.
