      It makes more sense; you don't activate your extroverted functions at the same time as your introverted functions, and you need to toggle/use a judging/perceiving function at the same time for basically all information, so you're going to be using your first and third at the same time, and your second and fourth at the same time as well.

    Even though the MBTI PERFECTLY captures my way of thinking on the romantic relationship part (INTJ) I still felt unsatisfied since the strengths and weaknesses does not satisfy me because it is so broad that almost any other personality can also relate to it, I really want to confirm it, and then I came across this video accurately and precisely encapsulate on how I solve problems and theories through analogies and metaphorical sentences and then later on you revealed that it was (INTJ).

    Your way of describing personalities according to the dominate and tertiary functions is really different from any other analysis I've explored. I am used to being able to explain a person's type using the cognitive functions, but usually not like this. I didn't recognize a lot of the sub-types as you described them (the dominant functions were familiar enough).
    What really resonated though, and has always resonated for me in your videos, is the description of my own type. I have long typed myself as an INFJ. People often question the "feeler" aspect because I am so much in my head. My mom got me into MBTI when I was a teenager. She thought I was an INTP, but in what I think is typical INFJ fashion, when that description didn't really resonate, I conducted my own analysis. I have considered whether I might be an INTJ, but the functions were all facing the wrong way (I am definitely not an extroverted thinker/introverted feeler). I like how you emphasize the importance of Ti in INFJ's mental make up--I find it to be a huge part of my lived experience that isn't usually acknowledged in typical INFJ descriptions.
    It follows that if your description of the INFJ type (which I am the most familiar with) really makes sense, there's got to be something to the rest of your descriptions. I will have to ask my family and friends what they think.

    • @CognitivePersonality
      @CognitivePersonality  4 роки тому +8

      Exactly - I apply the same methodology to all the types and there is definitely a consistency there, but with that being said much nuanced is lost when describing the dominant functions absent the ways they are affected by the opposing functions :)

    You’ve said everyone can do everything. As I listen to this I see myself in nearly every description. You’re doing a great job of keeping things cognitive as opposed to behavioral, but it’s hard for me to pin down my own dominant cognition, since all those descriptions seem to commit the same error as type descriptions you criticize for being humanly ubiquitous. Can you clarify how, since I relate to all of these, I can identify my dominant function?

    • @CognitivePersonality
      @CognitivePersonality  3 роки тому +62

      Yes that's fair, the de-boxing can make finding a discrete type a challenge. It's more about observing your inclinations more than the sum of your output. To identify your dominant you need to find a function that feels right and comfortable (Si being internal precision and harmony) and see if its opposite (Ne in that case) feels like something novel, outside of the ego that you can observe much more than act upon.

    With the CPT, I was thrown off at first with the first and third functions being considered the dominant stack. It brings a completely different perspective on all the types; the estp being adept in social situations or the enfp (my type) being an analyst of sorts. This makes sense though as the first and third functions are convergent and we can therefore wield these functions with more freedom.

I have been preaching to myself and others that one of the best ways to solve a problem is "to take what's been done before and fit it to your situation." This one's quite long.
    I started this journey by having ISFP as result, when i was a teenager. Slowly grows, i believe that i am an INFP seeking novelty from MBTI. Then i got INFJ by the time i hit adulthood. Kinda weird at first but ok. But as time goes on, i think that i want this last result to be mine and not changing again. Judging by INFJ's definition from various website, i kinda not sure because INFJ is the harmonious and socially accepted one while INTJ is the analytical one.
    Then i found your channel. It greatly helps that INFJ is not the one i read from popular website's definition. Your definition has more clicks on me, for example: I am your kind of creating blueprint and predicting future kind of man. I usually focus on large vision, narrow it down till i got the essence, and move by those vision. Yes, i tend to get hypersensitive by social interaction, so i prefer to stay behind, but my motivation oftentimes comes from giving benefits to people. I clearly can understand other person's problem deeply, but i am reluctant to say anything because i dont want to get tired from helping them... Can't say no if i am asked for help. I'm weak to detail, but i cant stand incomplete information.
    If there is any suggestion for me, feel free to reply. A life is a long long journey at it's best afterall. Thank you for making this channel.

    I don't learn just for the sake of learning. Instead, I learn to try and fit the new knowledge into my overall formulations and ideas. Everything I learn, do, and observe needs to benefit all my other goals and objectives in some way and I always consider the relations in the back of my mind. It all fits together and relates in some way. I'm not sure what that means as far as cognitive style, though. When I'm doing one activity or learning one new thing, I'm thinking about how it relates to and can be beneficial to my other projects and goals. I'm very practical about it. I don't like wasting my time learning things that won't serve my purposes. Watching these videos, I have the purpose of trying to better understand myself and help others understand me, to help in my fictional writing and characterization by making more realistic characters, and to better order my life to be able to accomplish what I want to accomplish. I'm having to watch these videos several times to try and comprehend, but I think they're of worth and helpful.

    Looks like I really have to start again at ground zero in determining my type. I can mostly associate with INTJ and INFP, or an INFP who happens to be a frequent (and unwitting) Ni user. The other Fi dominant, ISFP, is one I can barely relate with after seeing the INFP vs. ISFP video.
    Perhaps this confusion comes from results of test I took several weeks ago (before finding this channel) that gave me solid INFP results. Some websites seem to be biased towards a certain type depending on which dichotomous answer someone chooses. Other websites that offer "tests" (unsure of accuracy) focusing on cognitive functions, however, show that I have relatively low Fi, leading to further confusion.

      More than a year after, I'm still stuck between these two, especially their Diver subtypes. Learning about this subtype made me consider the possibility of being any of the introverted types, both sensors and intuitives. I feel like I'd be able to relate to most Divers once they're discussed.
      I am also looking into the extroverted types as a determiner since the INFP with a flipped orientation manifests as an ENFJ, and the INTJ as an ENTP: both types I can also relate to.
      It's been a long journey hahaha

      I portray the dominant functions in this video so, as I said in the description, as a single video this will not be an effective means of determining your type. Hence why it is a series.
      In making shorter videos nuance must be sacrificed, but offering people descriptions of the cognitive functions is still more helpful than having them take a test and expect them to define themselves by the result they receive. I am not telling people what types they are, I am saying what type they might be should they happen to resonate significantly more with one dominant stack than the other.

    Among all these descriptions, the initial identification was for Te (contrary to what I imagined. Until this video, it typed me as an ESTP). Then when you started describing ENTJ.
    "Do you feel your scope of reality is very precise and narrow in nature? Do you prefer to hone in more on the details? And a especific medium than encompass a vast array of moving parts?"
    Certainly. My viewpoint on what I should do to become who I should be is extremely limited, to a level that I wouldn't so much like it to be. I'm also highly detail oriented, and I have an insane need to transform myself into everything I can become. I hope I have correctly understood what it is to be an ENTJ. If I got it wrong, please correct me.
    By the way i was deceived

I don't think about my "role in society", or "constantly try to understand the fabric of reality", or "condense all objective information into a single theory". I'm thinking I'm mostly an INTJ since I can really only see the world in patterns. I also live by an existential principle of assimilating new truths I discover into my being and changing who I am to live up to my understanding of the values I generate from the patterns I see. As a child and young adult, I couldn't read an emotional atmosphere the majority of the time and preferred positing a solution to emotional strife and turmoil by way of rational deductions from how I saw the problem arise through the patterns I saw. I had to study literature to develope the eloquence of speech required to articulate the connections I made and verbally express them. I picked up skills and talents as I went trying to Frankenstein my ideal version of myself. For all the effort I put in, I can never seem to make up for the inadequacies I have regarding feelings; of others or my own. At first I believed I was an INTP. I share a good bit of the habits an INTP, only my driving force and my skill set don't incline me toward the preferences of an INTP. I much prefer the vagueness of philosophy to the minute details of other sciences.
