Very important conversation - thank you for talking on this! What worries me is how much attention these toxic dawah figures and the ensuing drama get, from both within and outside our community. They’re some of the first videos that pop up any time you search something about Islam, and it’s always filled with some of the worst adab I’ve seen. I even heard some non-Muslim radio hosts the other day commenting on videos they’d seen of these dawah boys screaming at people in parks and city squares. It’s concerning in that aspect because not only is this seen as distasteful and inappropriate to many in our community, but it’s also circulating to non-Muslims. If that’s their first or only exposure to the religion, then that’s shameful on our part if drama like this ends up drives people away. As a convert it’s always on my mind.
They wish you would disbelieve as they disbelieved so you would be alike. So do not take from among them allies until they emigrate for the cause of Allah. But if they turn away, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them and take not from among them any ally or helper. Quran 4:89

Assalamualaikum dear brothers. Jazakh'AllahKhair for sharing this with us! May Allah SubanahWaTa'Allah guide us and protect us from the whispers of Shaytan.
I recently discussed this topic with my wife. It can be observed that many people use Islam to earn money and gain attention. What bothers me even more than their dishonest intentions is the lack of knowledge and the casualness with which it is spread in the world. Just this weekend, I ended many subscriptions because I can no longer support or want to support that. However, I must also admit that it is nice to see so many brothers and sisters engaging in this, as it also signifies a great interest in Islam. May Allah fulfill His plan with His wisdom, even if we cannot comprehend it. Amen.
I learned about Islam&became muslim after watching the dawah brothers videos on social medias debating Christians atheist agnostic etc. Than as an open minded individual i start to read Quran compared them with the bible &find out the Quran is the truth. Imagine if those videos wouldn't pop up in my feeds I would be ignorant about GOD & Islam. How many thousands people like me have converted to Islam after watching this dawah videos?? You can say they making money using Islam but if they are using internet to reach out ignorant Muslims &non Muslims help the poor from what they profiting than im okay.
It has always been about money. You are their brother or sister as long as you bring your wallet to their masjid. Thanks for having the courage to notice this scam.
Allah ﷻ says in the Glorious Quran (2.154): *And do not say about those who are killed in the way of Allāh; "They are dead". Rather, they are alive, but you perceive [it] not.*
There has to be a department or regulatory authority which manages or these dawah societies need to be registered. Therefore if any fake or rogue dawah starts erupting they need to be told off or shut down by the regulatory authority. These checks and balances are a must.
Jazakallah! This talk was needed, I have been noticing a lot of this social media call outs and it is just promoting more confusion and distrust. I would like to request another topic of conversation, there is a lot of confusion among men and polygamy. Some men seem to think they do not need to speak to their wives before deciding as long as they have enough money and some think that because they cannot conceive, it gives them right to marry another. I have a daughter and a son and it scares me to think some men may think like this without considering all the teachings. I apologize if you have already covered this, I would be grateful for some guidance so I may teach my kids the right things. Jazakallah!
Marvelous discussion! Just something I truly need to hear for my broken heart. This era of refuting, slandering and talking harshly about muslim speakers or scholars has made me so sad, upset, broken to the point it feels more like a grief, very painful piercing through the heart. May Allah soften our qalbs towards our muslim brothers and sisters... we're family, not enemy. Let's stop this online rage and madness. We're all muslim ummah, not dogs with rabies (sorry it sounds harsh, but I don't have any better analogy)
That's a lie and a misrepresentarion. There are varieties of opinion on music even some prominent scholars like gazali and others have permitted it with conditions. Yes, the majority opinion is that music is impressible but you should not slander people when what they're saying is not wrong. He is such a beneficial person to the ummah, don't spread such slander or you'll be answerable on the day of judgement

I'm not trying to be rude, but why do conflicts among leaders make Muslims so sad/emotional?? Hasn't argument with the aim of truth-seeking always been a part of religious/intellectual discourse? It's about time Muslims stop idolizing and idealizing our leaders; NO ONE is above criticism. If Muslims spent more time thinking critically rather than mindlessly following celebrity sheikhs, they'd be more wary when Islamic knowledge becomes concentrated in the hands of the few and manipulated for personal/political agendas. This passivity, fear of conflict, and lack of critical thinking (truth-seeking above all else) are REALLY the reasons the Ummah is in the regressive state that it's in.
@@theurbanottoman2096one problem is the yelling and insulting, that is not part of proper intellectual discussion and useful disagreeing. One can disagree with good manners, but there is alot of it done with bad manners.
Extremely beneficial message esp. for the times of sensationalism and cancel culture that we live in! Allah does not count people (in quantity), He (subhanahu wa ta'ala) weighs them (in quality according to their intentions, actions etc.). JazakumAllahu khairun for being focused on the quality of the message and not the viewership, this ikhlaas will change our lives and that of the society in shaa Allah.
When the shiek explains delicately that timing to advice someone is important, like the example of the companion replying back, what devil, I’m not possessed. Timing takes someone who is cognisant, whom themselves, exercise metacognition and more importantly what is the intention behind their action, emotional intelligence, resilience, and like the shiek said would it bring evil than good. Timing is like golden apples in a silver basket. Jazkum Allah khaiyr for this very needed topic.
Infighting between Muslims will never stop. It was prophesied to start on the day Uthmaan (RA) was killed, and continue on until the end of time. The question is, will we be part of the never ending problem, or will we be like Abdullah ibn Umar.
These Dawah people “Refuting” of known Islamic scholars did so much damage. Because, we as general people don’t know what is authentic and not authentic, those deep subjects. Then we started watching those well known scholars and learning lot about Islam. But some random Dawah UA-camrs started “refuting” these scholars, which only created confusion and chaos. I decided I rather trust a scholar who spent their life time for studying and teaching Islam, and bear in mind that since they are human they might make mistakes here and there, but I will trust them more than a random Dawah guys. And there will be disagreements, differences on opinions on some topics even amongst scholars, but it should not be a reason to “cancel” them out, and publicly shame them, refute them on a UA-cam video which people like us who have little knowledge on Islam is watching, and getting confused. Just go and talk to the scholar directly if you think they are making mistakes. Just don’t ruin their trust and reputation and make us confused.
It's almost like confusing the average person is the goal. You become skeptical of ppl who studied more than the person you follow so you stop listening to everyone else. I've seen so many ppl in the comments saying they only trust this or that content creator. What you never hear from these refutation obsessed content creators is them telling ppl to find real live in person scholars or to establish themselves as active members of a masjid or community. They don't promote community building nor do they advise people to use less social media. Likely because their income is tied to selling online courses and selling those courses requires online promotion. They need ppl to be on social media and they need ppl to avoid going to learn from any source that doesn't lead to the sale of one of their courses. All praise to Allah, I avoid the back and forth much easier after abandoning some channels. But when I did fall into debating issues in the comments I would tell ppl not to take my word for anything and to screenshot our conversation and show it to their sheikh, local Imam or teacher and ask them who was right. Sometimes ppl would have the audacity to straight up say they don't care about the opinions of any scholars. Most times the conversation would end there. However, no one ever took the challenge and actually came back to reveal what their local scholar or Imam had to say about the issue. Because most of the time the ppl you find online are online so much due to the fact that they don't go to the masjid more than on Friday or at least they don't go for anything other than prayer. They don't sit with scholars and that's why they don't learn good manners. They aren't active members of a Muslim community with practicing friends who hold them accountable in real life. They don't often have their names or faces on display on their accounts because they don't want ppl who know them to know what they have been saying or listening to online. They become members of online "communities" because they don't have real communities and some of these content creators know this and use it to their advantage.
Not all dawah brothers are like that.... The problem is people these days like drama... Those who do drama become more famous than those who don't. Look at Muslim lantern brother who does dawah with 0 drama, full fact but highly underrated
Broo there's rift growing between Muslims online and its mad annoying. It seems like very tiny minute issues too. Or intentional misunderstandings. May Allah help guide us all. Ameen.
Muslims should remember that they must love and respect each other, despite differences in understanding the religion. They should discuss disagrements publicly, using references from Quran and sunna, always remembering that they are closer to each other than to their own siblings.
You love an imam who is promoting and sharing links to Playboy magazine? Or a "scholar" who says he defend the right to INSULT Prophet Muhammad? Wallahi what religion are you guys following?
May His finest peace and blessings be upon the best of His creation and the seal of His revelation and the best of guides for all of time Muhammed ﷺ and his family and his companions and all who adhere to his guidance اللهم امين ثم امين
This is sadly a disease in the ummah. A great example is the social app Clubhouse. There are hoards of sunni muslims who have a certain aqeedah who wish to dominate the dawah scene and make terrible fitna amongst sunni muslims and are very harsh to non muslims. Even well known established dawah carriers are on this app always infighting and making trouble . Allah protect us. Ameen
Wallahi specially in uk some brothers in speakers corner SubahanAllah 365 days fighting fighting fighting over akida over this over every little thing grown up educated men fighting over this small matters. Prophet (pbuh) said there will be a house for you in jannah if you don’t argue with someone even you are on haq . So my pov is very simple have to leaarn knowledge first(3) lot of knowledge about deen then go for the dawah and those knowledge will totally change your character then your dawah will be similar like the sahabas rahimaullah . As long as we all the muslims over the whole world are not united totally 100 percent then we will always be in the weaker side . As salam u alaiakum
Most of these popular daees on UA-cam see the debating and arguing as an entertainment. The thumbnails and titles are presented in a way to garner clicks. What's worse is that many a times wrong info is being spread in the name of Islam because these daees have not studied Islam properly. Before giving dawah, one must give dawah to himself, purify his intentions, cleanse his character, and gain knowledge
Also using philosophy and science to give dawa, what's that all about. They get caught up in all the nonsense trying to prove others wrong and it consumes them completley, they just patrol the internet and reality looking to prove others wrong for the sake of arguing. Shame.
What Dawah Drama? Enjoining Good and Forbidding Evil? An imam is saying it's fine for a muslimah to have an interview in the PLAYBOY MAGAZINE. Another "scholar" saying he defends insulting Prophet Muhammad. Another Scholar says we should defend LGBT rights to marry Are ya'll defending Fasad/Corruption?
Hate it very much to see influential Muslims fight like cats and dogs online. I clicked on one or 2 refutations and counter refutations among them at first. Then I stopped clicking on any vids that contain dramas, refutations and counter refutations. Sad also to see sectarianism among their fanboys
Not all dawah brothers all like that.... problem is people these days like drama, those who are involved, get more reach.. while who don't involve in all this, are not popular. Fault lies in the people too who watches n enjoys slandering Look at Muslim lantern brother who does dawah with 0 drama, full fact but highly underrated
Jazakallah khr for this, whenever I see the calling out videos, it makes me cringe, and I remind myself that a believer should mind his own business and alhamdulillah I don't watch those videos
Very good video and good insight by the shaykh. Although I disagree with the premise that Muslim dawah scene is more divisive than ever. The more time one spends online, the more divisiveness they will see. The online sphere across any realm is divisive, not just in Islamic da’wah. What might be the bigger problem is that we are spending more time consuming material online vs in masajid (where the latter has much less divisiveness). Get off social media.
Two Questions for Mohammad Elshinway since he is explaining the context and background of a ruling and its subtle reasonings or wisdom of Hadith there is a reason behind the Prophet's advice and also reasons behind a ruling. A lot Hadith or not explained properly or background and the you have Imams and people of little knowledge who think they know but actually dont plus dont have the IQ or intelligence. Our Islamic scholars of the past the 4 schools of thought and their students were brilliant and bright. 1 - Is taking a bath on a Friday recommended or compulsory thing? I read somewhere cant remember exactly a person either asked Aisha or he asked through third person that did he need to take a bath.. it was Friday/Friday prayer that day. The background was the man was a labourer working on a field so his clothes smelt and his body was sweaty and obviously smelt of sweat. The Prophet (saw) advised for the person to take a bath. So is tis because it was Jummah and or the person needed a change of clothes and have a bath to be clean and fresh for Jummah. 2 - Wearing your trousers above the ankles. I read that the Prophet (saw) advised his early followers to look different to the rest of society at the time, so advised to grow the beard and trim the moustache as the non-muslim pagan Arabs used to shave mainly. He also advised them to wear their thobes etc above the ankles or were shorter length thongs that dont get dragged on the floor as the Non-Muslim pagan Arabs used to wear long thongs out of pride, that would get dirty and torn as used to touch the ground (so used to get ruined/damaged/dirt on them especially the lower part of the garment easily) and so they used to buy new ones quite frequently quite wasteful basically). So did the Prophet advise his followers to wear the thongs higher above the ankles for 1) to look different and 2) for practical reasons so to not get the garment ruined/dirty/damaged easily, or is the reason both? I ask as they are Imams who say you MUST wear your trousers or jeans etc above the ankles especially from the Indian subcontinent! What is the reason and background why the Prophet advised this to his followers? For practical wearing necessity or to look different or both? I think our own lack of knowledge, aptitude, IQ, understanding can misinterpret rulings and Hadith.
If you make people think they cannot be redeemed and they believe you, on the Day of Judgment you will be held accountable for preventing them from seeking Allah's forgiveness.
At the end of the day, people have various views of this incident. Ultimately we must all realize this comes down to basics, such as playboy's place, LGHDTV's place in Islam. The answers no one doubts, apart for some Americans it seems including some Imam's there. No one in the rest of the world who is a Muslim will accept you nor your endorsements. There is no doubt this is why Islam is seeing a large growth and Muslims feel vindicated as the truth stands by its own strength and we don't need to compromise. What came out of this incident is nothing but humiliation of promoting such BS for what ever their reasons might be even if we give the benefit of the doubt. I think it's better to reflect, repent and be humble and see what people like Daniel are trying to say and come forward and do the right thing before you face Allah SWT.
I think the people in the Dawah scene who have the yt channels, need to settle their stuff in private, without showing every single quarrel in public. And the madkhalis need to be more listening to what others have to say. And so do the people on the salaf need to chill down with broadcasting their punch back to the public.

Agreed. this also means callinh out 'liberal' muslim teachers who misguide the laymen. Some may regard that as dawah drama but it's necessary sadly.
Quran 4:89
I am sorry my friend. The internet has exposed islam for what it is, a religion that cannot stand up to intellectual scrutiny. So what you you expect apart from temper tantrums, claims of islamophobia, cries of persecution when there are no answers left. Muslims have become like pampered children.
As soon as I stopped following all such people, I became much more practicing and a less hateful/doubtful individual.
I'm following in your footsteps brother. I blocked and unfollowed a bunch of channels and feel so much better already. I'm just so much calmer, I read myself and stay away from the drama. Best wishes brother.

Much needed podcast! Jazak Allahu khairan.
This is what we needed. Jazak Allah khair
I haven't watched yet, but the title attracted me as I was waiting for a knowledgeable Muslim talking about Dawah Muslims' online presence 👏
It is heartbreaking, yes. 😢

Very good interview, Thank you very much.

Great discussion on great subject. Jazakallah khair
Spot on
It's almost like confusing the average person is the goal.
I’m hearing this is because of ‘salafism’

So my pov is very simple have to leaarn knowledge first(3) lot of knowledge about deen then go for the dawah and those knowledge will totally change your character then your dawah will be similar like the sahabas rahimaullah . As long as we all the muslims over the whole world are not united totally 100 percent then we will always be in the weaker side . As salam u alaiakum

I find it very entertaining I used to watch rap beef videos before so I think it's a better replacement
Shame.
They should sit down and talk.

We do not have an imam or a khalif to unite us ..that's why
It's good that the bad Apples are exposed.
Jazākum Allāhu Khayran for the much needed reboot.
Anyone who uses madkhali as an insult shouldn’t be listened to or respected
