    As a Korean I get annoyed when people come up with this most random questionable skicare hacks and label it as kbeauty. Yes I've seen the skincare trend that was trending a decade ago trending again (or allegedly by the content creator) but I've never seen aaaanything like this before and this don't sound like k beauty because it's all about non invasive lol

      Right

    • @baolee01
      @baolee01 7 місяців тому +8

      Right about the same reason why gloves are used when applying a chemical peel. It's to protect the esthetician's hands (can you imagine if no gloves were worn each time a peel service was performed on another client? RIP poor skin and super gross) and to keep things sanitized and clean for the client. If you're performing any type of service in which an acid/mechanical exfoliation is used, the skin is essentially going to be newly exfoliated and "fresh/fragile". The last thing you want to get on that fresh and fragile skin is bacteria.....that's why gloves are used. Could you imagine going to a spa, asking for a peel and then having the esthetician perform it without gloves? Yikes!

    Funny to watch this exactly 1 year after it was posted, just coincidentally because I was curious about the VT Reedle Shot everyone is talking about lately! Based on what was laid out in this video, it doesn't sound like Dr Dray's opinion on spicules will have shifted since then. Although I did hear that VT released some testing and safety data alongside the product, so I wonder if any reassurances are to be found there.

    Interestingly enough I had this done last month at a spa that’s distributing this new spicules treatment (or biomicroneedling, as they like to call it) to estheticians.
    For anyone wondering how it feels, I can compare the feeling with fiberglass.
    The process was very short, soon after I was left with reddish skin, the next day I still could feel the spicules and a little itchiness while I touched my skin. The third day through fourth day I was peeling.
    Fifth day I had baby soft skin, I saw some improvement in fine lines, overall glow, not much else. I should mention I have resilient skin, I’m 25 and have no major skin concerns.
    So… this is still very new but wanted to share.

    Spicule therapy has been around for quite a while. I’ve had 11 treatments of the Storyderm Princess Peel, performed by a license esthetician. Each treatment is done 6-8 weeks apart. I have ice pick acne scars and it has softened their appearance, but has not gotten rid of them completely. I don’t find the spicules painful at all. To me, it feels like when your arm goes to sleep and it tingles when it “wakes up.”
    The most important thing is that you cannot be allergic to shellfish in order to have this done. You have to stop use of all active ingredients (vitamin C, retinoids, acids, etc.) 7 days prior to treatment and 7 days after. After treatment, you cannot get the treatment area wet, hot, sweaty or exposed to steam for 24 hours. Otherwise you’ll disrupt the spicules. So, basically no shower, intense activity or direct exposure to sun for 24 hours.
    Overall, I enjoyed the results and would definitely do it again. The Princess Peel is the mid-tier Storyderm treatment. The highest level is called Time Machine. It can only be done in the winter months, but I haven’t made the leap to that level yet.
    Having said all of that, this is NOT a procedure that should be done by someone who is uneducated and inexperienced in spicule therapy. Each treatment takes approximately 2 hours to perform because it’s not just a matter of putting spicules on your face and rubbing them in. There’s pre and post care that needs to be done. It’s unfortunate that there are people on TikTok trending spicule therapy, but not telling the whole story of how it needs to be done, how often, and the pre/post care. There’s a reason that it’s meant for license professionals to perform.

    Biologique Recherche actually has a had a toner/serum type called MC110 for years and the primary ingredient is sponge extract which acts on a microscopic level like microneedling and basically initiates minute a very low level type of inflammation which stimulates the production of collagen and elastin. P50V also has this ingredient. It's actually quite ingenious since it also oxygenates the skin and stimulates microcirculation.

    Sponge spicules have been around a very, very long time. They were first used in Europe to treat acne, but have been perfected in various skincare treatments in Korea and other Asian countries. Technically, not an exfoliant (but they do speed up cell turnover), they are designed to infuse the skin with products. Spicules are infused with various products from peptides, Exosomes, GrowthFactors and many other ingredients designed to address certain skin conditions. First and foremost, it is a treatment that should be administered by a professional i.e. trained Esthetician or other skincare professionals.

The science you discussed in here is interesting for sure with respect to utility in skin treatments, but i would hope that some part of this research is taking into consideration preservation of the ecosystems they're sourcing these sponges from

I haven't looked into it super deeply- but there are some Japanese dermatologists that say that it might be okay to use and then some other that say that it's unsafe. So it's really interesting to watch, but Dr. Dray what do you think about having Spicules in make up to deliver better penetration of the "beauty ingredients" in the foundation? Hey Dr dray I’m adding cerave healing ointment into my routine. Do I only use it at night after tretnoin and moisturizer ?

    • @db-gb5xi
      @db-gb5xi Рік тому +3

      I believe in videos she's used it on her lips, corners of mouth and on her eyelids before applying her tret. In one of her videos she says you can run into possible irritation by putting active ingredients like tret under occlusion with things petrolatum because it can drive those ingredients deeper and your moisturizer already probably has an occlusive like petrolatum or shea butter in it already. I believe she's also talked about using it for slugging.

    Hi dr dray! Is it possible to tan even if we wear sunscreen( right amount and reapplied)does that mean sunscreen is not protecting well offering enough protection

    • @nadab4750
      @nadab4750 Рік тому +3

      Sunscreen is not a "silver bullet"; but it still needs to be worn every day, if you want to decrease the amount of UV rays damaging your skin. Wearing (and reapplying) sunscreen does this by increasing the amount of time it takes for your skin to tan, freckle, burn, wrinkle and/or aquire skin cancer. Wear at least a 50+ sunscreen and be generous with the amount applied. It's much smarter to wear sunscreen than not to wear sunscreen. Healthy skin heals better than damaged skin. Even days that look cloudy can have high UV levels. So be vigilant wearing (and re-applying) sunscreen...and also use sun protective clothing & accessories. Seek shade whenever/
      wherever possible.
      It is unrealistic to expect that any sunscreen will last all day. If you stay in the sun all day l, you will still burnt and get damaged...however, it will do so much more if you aren't wearing any sunscreen.

    Do you dry your face with a towel until it's damp and put on a moisturizer??
    Or
    You don't even use a towel and directly put on a moisturizer??

    • @db-gb5xi
      @db-gb5xi Рік тому +1

      Some derms do and she has said you can pat your face dry so it's not dripping but still damp. In her videos, where she's demonstrating her routines she's said she moisturizes after stepping out of the shower and by the time it comes to her face, it's not as wet but damp.

    Hi dr. Dray i've a problem with dandruff so i went to buy an anti dandruff shamboo which it's active ingredient is zinc pyrithione but i found that this ingredient have been banned and replaced with piroctone olamine so what do you think and it helps with seborrheic dermatitis or not?

      Well glad you got answer! Still see shampoo with zinc pyrithion where I live in the US. I have seb derm and I use a shampoo called Nizoral. It works very well for me. Others have liked it also. It has an ingredient called “ ketoconazole” which has been around a long time and proven to help dandruff & seb derm. It is a little more expensive, but worth it to me when I need to use.. I think it’s best shampoo for Seb derm, but that’s just my opinion.Not familiar with the ingredient you mention. .Maybe give Nizoral a try? Should be in drugstores or you could ask pharmacist if you can’t find. Hope this helps. Nizoral is made by Kramer Labs in Belgium.

      Depending on which country you're in, there are shampoos with piroctone olamine like French brands Typology, Vichy, Bioderma and La Roche Posay. There's also Sebamed.

    Me looking at the spicules: YEAH NO....I don't want that in my eyes. Only if it's in a very precise medium, maybe like a sticker, similar to microdarts. But we shouldn't be over harvesting sponges and corals. They are already having a hard enough time. I can imagine police munitions adding spicules to pepper gel now for crowd/riot control. Just to make the pain harder to wash off. 😫 I think the should do safety testing on corneas of the eye.

    For the neutrogena body oil from Costco you mentioned in yesterday's video, is the fragrance version okay since we are washing it off anyway? I usually buy the fragrance free and didn't know if the sesame scented one at Costco was okay.
