Ericsurf6 I have to tell you time I went to Japan. I was at airport. I was thirsty. So I went to a vending machine. I was really wanting something cold and refreshing. I was only around 10 years old by myself. I ended up getting hot chocolate. It was good though. I seen noodle shops look so good. I did not have enough money.

You know Eric around the time that you uploaded that video my mother was diagnosed with stage 3 chronic leukaemia and I went into complete depression when I found out and just everything seemed like it can never get better, she had exactly 8 months to go maybe even less depending on how the days go by, me and her watched your videos together and I remember watching this video and she was moved by how happy and enthusiastic you were about 2018 she wanted to make it through it cause you made it seem like it’s going to be the best year to come, thankfully now it’s towards the end of 2019 and she’s still fighting her battle against leukaemia and we still watch your videos together because even though it’s as simple as eating and reviewing food it’s your enthusiasm and your excitement that’s makes you one hell of a UA-camr man
    Get some :) !!

Osechi is not just about its taste or flavour but the fact that each ingredient, colour and each way of cooking has its own meaning for your life. And you know and explain very well about the cultural side of the food. Absolutely love your video

Most of shops, restaurants and supermarkets were used to be closed to celebrate A New Year in Japan. So we had to cook preserved food during the period.
Those food were called Osechi cuisine.
As most of them are opened lately, we are not in troubled to buy any food,
but we have been still keeping the traditional custom and culture.

Happy New Year! I really enjoyed seeing you in traditional Japanese dress and speaking Japanese . The boxes looked incredible! I also appreciated the explanation of each one. Here in the south (US) it is traditional to have collard greens, black eyed peas and cornbread. We also had ham . The collard greens represent getting paper money . The peas are coins and the cornbread is gold for the new year. I assume from your other videos that all the boxes were room temperature. If they are to be eaten over a few days do you put them in the refrigerator? Thank you! Best wishes.:) get some!!!

Whoaaa cant believe that 4 box of food can cost $2000! But when i watched this, hmmm make sense. I mean there's dash of gold in your black bean and one whole lobster! And I really admires how Japan put everything in a plate and make it beautiful.... Its like an art in a box and what's more good is they can eat them! Last but not least, HAPPY NEW YEAR, ERIC! I hope in 2018 you and all your family life full of blessings and have a great year ahead! 🎆🎆🎆

I thought more UA-camrs would make or buy osechi but I didn’t see as many as I thought so thank you Eric. If my sister can buy some of the hard to find stuff when she visits Japan next year, perhaps I’ll try to make my own version with less sugar and only the items I like. It amazes me that my mom did this every year when we were kids. She must have missed home since she came to Canada in her 20’s. Happy New Year Surf Sixers!🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🎉🎉🎉🍾🍾🍾🐮🐮🐮🐮

Happy New Year Eric!!! My new year resolution is to spend more time living in the moment and less time worrying about all the things I have to do. Spend more time enjoying my little girl who is about to turn two, and to believe in myself a little more. We don't have much, but my household has been blessed with giggles and the pitter patter of little feet. I'd love to be chosen for a snack pack, and receive a little piece of japan. impaled sea snail carcass "in't that cute?" severed crab claw "look how cute that is!"
    U R weird, but I like it.
I really love pickled and sour flavours so I think I would like a lot of the items in this box!
New Years in Japan seems exciting. And tasty.

I love how you taste something and don't like, but keep eating it. The facial expression says it all

I love that you go in for a second bite even if it's something you didn't like the first bite just to give it another shot. I need to start doing that! As silly as that is, I think that's going to be in my New Years resolution... To try and be more open minded with food. I used to be vegan.. But when I started dating my boyfriend over a year ago he opened my eyes to sushi & seafood. He's been crazy open minded with trying lots of my vegan or vegetarian dishes I make every now and again.. So I think I need to start being more open minded with food he likes to eat that I might find weird.. Who knows, I might end up liking it! I said that about Crab and lobster and now i'm obsessed!

Rooter's Backyard you would probably be better ordering the ingredients to make one yourself , unless you don't mind it being not completely fresh , it might take a day or two to arrive , but I've been thinking about doing that too so hopefully it works out :)
