This song is actually a hymn for the god Tyr, who is the God of War and Justice. This is essentially a war chant, something said by the rune master as a sort of blessing over the warriors who are about to fight. They are saying "Tawol Athodu Ek Erilaz Owlthuthewaz Niwaremariz Saawilagar Hateka Harja" which means "I, the Rune Master, servant of Odin, call upon the one of the Sun to aid our army". The second part of the chant are the runes themselves which are elements of nature. The chant is as follows: "Fehu Uruz Thurisaz Ansuz Raidho Kenaz Gebo Wunjo Hagal Naudhiz Isa Jera Eihwaz Perthro Algiz Sowelu Tiwaz Berkano Ehwaz Mannaz Laguz Ingwaz Dagaz Othala" believe it or not they are actually speaking in old norse/futhark. The specific dialect is an older version of Icelandic which in itself is the closest to old Norse. Also, most of the vocalisations are meant to sound animalistic, as norse beliefs and Seiður magic have strong connections with animals and nature.
I thought it was the elder futhark but not in the Norse but Germanic. I chant the runes often and it would be great to hear if they did the whole of the elder futhark using their nordic names. Just love this and what a great kulning.

Maria's voice is one of the few that can bring me to tears. Heilung in general really calls back to those ancestral roots of things that we evolved for thousands of years to be moved by, but her voice calls deeper to something spiritual even in the completely non-spiritual person like myself. Shit is WILD.
@@Ψυχήμίασμα Duuuude it's probably the closest I have ever and will ever come to a spiritual experience (I'm about as non-spiritual as you can get lol). Music has a way with that kind of thing. Taps into some ape brain biology or something, haha.
@@DefconDelta88 No one is "non-spiritual." We humans just deny our nature until something reminds us what we really are. Heilung has found a way to do this through music.
@@TheCharismaticVoice You don't want to hear two banshees at the same time. Well, you do, but it's pure interference. It's an utterly fascinating sound.
The cackling you hear are most likely the Garbage Goblins, as they call themselves. A group that walks around the festival as Goblins picking up trash that's not in the bin. They really like to roleplay their goblin part.
Why would you do that though? If it is the audience it sounds like 1 or 2 people and it sounds like microphone sound. It does not sound random though so i hope at least it was prompted by the band.
@@havtor007 Why would you pick up trash? Are you really asking that question? Or are you asking why people roleplay Goblins at a medieval/fantasy festival?
@@Colphin When i made my comment there was no timmavid response to this, my thing has nothing to do with that. Here in Norway people screaming so loud the sound, sounds like it is from a mic would not be normal but it can work for a festival something i did not know this was filmed at. But also goblins that we have around here is very quiet they do lure people into places and kill them to eat though. The theatre piece Peer Gynt (the piece where the very famous In the hall of the mountain king comes from) you can see more how the goblins and trolls work in Norwegian folklore.
I think that Maria's solo in this is one of the most amazing vocal performances ever. That is a real skill and execution. She is really a fantastic singer

Yeah, that is quite amazing. I never heard of an outfit choosing to record their first public performance for posterity. More conventional bands (i.e pretty much all bands) normally do a couple near the end of the tour when everything is smooth and mix them into one live video.
Absolutely kulning, like when calling in the cattle in Dalarna, Sweden. Then it went in to something very close to the Sami joik. Both kulning and joik are ancient Scandinavian singing techniques.
New data on this musical theme: The song's title can be found in the Mesogothic Anglo-Saxon glossary as "In-Maidjan", which means "deceptively change" or "corrupt". This makes sense since the entire story within the album consists of a peaceful village that is corrupted by having to go to war. Therefore, Proto-Germanic seems to be the language. Harigasti Teiwa Harigasti Teiwa "is a clear Germanic reference to the Negau helmet. This helmet contains several Etruscan alphabet inscriptions that include the words" Harigasti teiwa which are the first words of the song. This could be translated as Harigast (the priest) although it could also mean, the priest of Teiwaz (Tyr). "Harigast" is often (not always) seen as a personal name and that it could be made up of the words "harjaz" (army, troop, warband, war) and gastiz (stranger, guest). The forms "Hari" and "gast" is particularly found in west-germanic. As such the name could mean "war guest" or "foreign army". Tawol Athodu - I accept the invitation. Ek Erilaz - I am a runemaster. The word has been interpreted to mean magician or runemaster. The word is an ablaut variant of count and it is believed that it could be linguistically related to the name of the tribe of the Heruli or Herulos. The Heruli were a Germanic tribe from Scandinavia that was invaded by the Roman Empire in the 3rd century. So it is probably simply an old military title of Germanic provenance. Owlthuthewaz - owlthu (glorious) thewaz (servant). Means servant of the glorious Niwaremariz - Priest of the god "Ullr" / famous, renowned. From the proto-Germanic term Wulþuz (glory) wolþu- is possibly a reference to a God, surely the God Ullr. Saawilagar Hateka - My name is Sawilagaz. Harja - Army - leader of the army; commander; Warrior Wuotani Ruoperath Wuotani - Oh, Wodan! Ruoperath - famous and brilliant. This could be interpreted as the following: I, Priest Harigast. Aaccept the invitation (to battle) I am the Heruli. I am a renowned priest of Ullr. They call me Warrior. Oh, Wodan the famous and brilliant! The next chant are the names of the 24 Norse runes of the Elder Futhark. This is also known as runic song. Fehu, Uruz, Thurisaz, Ansuz, Raidho, Kenaz, Gebo, Wunjo, Hagal, Naudhiz, Isa, Jera, Eihwaz, Perthro, Algiz, Sowelu, Tiwaz, Berkano, Ehwaz, Mannaz, Laguz, Ingwaz, Dagaz, Othala. In English: Wealth, Aurochs, Thorn, Divine Breath, Travel, Torch, Gift, Joy, Hail, Need, Ice, Harvest, Tree, Luck, Elk, Sun, Creator, Birch tree, Horse, Man, Water, Fertility, Day, Home. Odin, prepare for battle! A hug.
Thank you for all the great information. I truly find it fascinating and very interesting, all folk music goes back to stories of our past which is important to record and perpetuate.
Your giddiness is infectious. I'm crying and giggling, as I've loved Heilung a while and it's such a joy to see a talented musician nerd out about other talented musicians. Thank you!
I'm so glad I'm not the only one that cries at her Heilung reactions 😭 watching someone fall in love with something you feel such a deep connection with is such a beautiful thing 😭
The entire concert is available on their channel in a single piece. There are plenty of times lately that I just need something calming in the background, and this concert just fits the bill so much. They named themselves perfectly ("Healing" in German), as I almost always feel better after listening. Also, at around 11:30, the chant that all 3 start singing together is actually the Elder Futhark runes. ᚠ - f - Fehu ᚢ - u - Ūruz þ - þurisaz ᚨ - a - Ansuz ᚱ - r - Raidō ᚲ - k - Kenaz ᚷ - g - Gebō ᚹ - w - Wunjō ᚺ - h - Hagall ᚾ - n - Nuadiz ᛁ - i - Isa ᛃ - j - Jēra ᛇ - ï/æ - īwaz / ēwaz ᛈ - p - Perþō ᛉ - z - Algiz ᛊ / ᛋ - s - Sōwilō ᛏ - t - Tiwaz ᛒ - b - Berkanan ᛖ - e - Ehwaz ᛗ - m - Mannaz ᛚ - l - Laguz ᛜ / ᛝ - ŋ (ng) - Ingwaz ᛞ - d - Dagaz ᛟ - o - Ōþala
Heilung is something special. I played it to many people... some didn't liked it, many more did but all of them described feeling of something primeval unlocking inside of them. One girl described it as something locked away and bound in the remotest corner of her soul. I always feel an urge to go into forest. I think it is those drums that make almost everyone feel spiritual when listening to this. That sound it is with us for tens of thousands of year, there must be some kind of genetic memory associated with it.
See, I don't think it's about genetic memory. I think it perfectly evokes the fantasy of genetic memory. Which to my mind, is just as good, or better. Kai Faust's Himalayan throat singing has nothing to do with ancient Viking culture. It just feels right. It works. And that's all that matters.
Imagine if you will, you are a Roman legionary in one of the 17th, 18th, or 19th Legions, marching through the Teutoburg Forest in 9 CE and you hear this coming out of the impenetrable depths of the forest..
While they got trounced, being in a legion with their tactics and customs kinda lessened the fear. Even if the romans had no war chants on this level, watching them organised the way they did was frightening too. But yeah, any other would just start praying for deliverance.
You should hear someone play the Aztec death whistle. It mimics the sound of agonizing screams. Just imagine a bunch of people in the jungle playing it but you can’t see where it’s coming from 😟
image if you hear this and it was Rome 2 total war on release day. Watching the Germanic hoardes decend upon you at 6-8 fps and the sheer twisted look of horror on the Romans faces.
She was inspired by swedish "kulning", a herding call/song used by girls tending cattle. You should react to Jonna Jinton to hear it, I think you will really like it:)
Where did you find this information, if you did at all? newnoisemagazine.com/grand-fashion-heilung-iconic-sound/ antichristmagazine.com/interview-heilung-by-carlamorton/ I can find nothing that indicates "Swedish" kulning has influenced anything. In fact, doing a bit of research indicates that Norwegian folklore and traditions, then Danish, then Germanic in general, in that order, are the influences generally in the band.... and I know this kulning has just as deep roots in Norway (not to speak of the topography making it more important)... So I would love to see the source of that claim. Not being rhetorical, I'm trying to be empirical if anything
I know this is so late, but it was so reassuring to see you go into that trance when Maria started her Kulning. I’m a 33 year old man, and the first time I heard her kulning, I started sobbing. Not necessarily crying, just.. teary, and then sobbing. I don’t know why. I wish I did. Glad I’m not the only one who gets pulled into some beautiful place with this.
If you're looking for more Heilung songs to react to, my favourite from the same live show is Othan. Maria has a more pronounced role in it. The lyrics are from Havamal, one of the oldest norse prose texts. It's SO GOOD.
Have been waiting for this since Krigsgaldr came out. Your in-depth analysis not only of the vocalists but also of the music itself makes your reactions more valuable than others.
Your reaction to Maria's part is the entire reason I clicked on this video. Every single time I hear it, my eyes get a lil misty. She seriously has one of the most hauntingly beautiful voices I've ever heard, Heilung as a whole is so primal and majestic, but Maria adds a whole nother level of depth to their sound and I can't wait to see them once the world returns to normal
I find her voice eerily hypnotic, awakening a primal force from inside each of us. Summoning spirits and (re)enacting a ritual from ancient times, long forgotten in the minds of men, but alive and well in our souls and collective conscience. Echoing from eons before recorded time - amplified history which reverberates into today.
I read somewhere that the way Maria's part came about in the song is when Christopher Juul (her partner) was originally working with Kai Uwe Faust, they needed something else with what they were doing. Heilung had not been born yet and they were still experimenting. She came to his warehouse studio and they asked her to just throw some stuff out and they would see what they could use. That is why there are so many technical vocal gymnastics in her part. She figured they would cut it up, sample it and put them together for the song. They loved what she did and she got pulled into the fold of working with them on the project and they kept the whole section for the song! Not sure where I read it but it was back when I was researching everything each band member was doing so I could get more form them!
@@MeatballCereal Same, I thought that's what she meant haha, The Who have a some kind of throaty rock screaming for that era, like the "Yeaaaaah" in Won't Get Fooled Again
Fun story for this music and these performers. I had my daughter after a 25 hour labor and listened to them during the hard parts of labor and achieved my goal of an unmedicated birth. The sounds you were nerding out over were a great vibrational strength for me during very painful moments and the drumming and chanting helped me manage my breathing and really control the pain. I have cool video of my unborn daughter kicking my belly to the beats of this music when I would play it for funsies because it resonates with one's soul
Whenever I listen to Heilung and watch their concerts, I feel as though I'm in a trance. I'm taken back in time, and I want to take part in that ritual. I feel that energy and want to express it along with them. This is why I love music, and Heilung does a phenomenal job at performing it.
When you see an accomplished, experienced & decorated opera singer getting all giddy & happy about another singer... that's a good sign we should pay attention. Awesome review, Ma'am.
Damn, I have seen this so many times over the internet. And I actually was there, not knowing what Heilung actually was. It was in The Netherlands, recorded at Castlefest. I even recognise my own blowing horn in the audience at the end of the song, to respect the song. I went to my tent in awe, in a state of not knowing who I was and what I would want to be, and it made me think. This was only the second time I ever had this feeling. That concert did change me, and I am sure I was not the only one.
I heavily envy the experience of just stumbling into something this interesting and powerful in person, it hits hard just finding it online, but to be there and have it a complete surprise? Not even mentioning that Castlefest 2017 was their FIRST CONCERT!
I went back to my tent feeling I was is a dream. The music is so immensely beautiful and meditative. Every time as I listen to this music I go back to the concert in my mind and relax.
Fun Fact about Kai's antlers and the "lightning hook" you mentionned. In Montreal when they came, they lit those one fire. So he had his antlers lit up, and one of his drumsticks was lit as well, it produced this INSANE effect.
I love how you absolutely went into a trance on the part where Maria began to do her kulning. Maria is absolutely insane with her vocal control. She, Aurora, and Eivør are INSANELY talented vocalists. If you haven't, give trøllbundin by Eivør a chance. Welcome to the Heilung family. Skål, sister!

I've been to see Heilung twice, it was a sublime journey both times. I go to a lot of gigs (well not so much this year fml) and Heilung are unlike any other live music I have seen. So Primal and transcendent, I would recommend anyone to go see them at any (or every!) opportunity. I really like the track 'Traust' so chanty and chilling.
I highly reccomend you to visit a Heilung concert when you can. I've seen them the second time yesterday and I sure as hell plan on seeing them more. The experience is unlike anything else especially this song. It goes through your whole body and soul, it takes you along in some ancient really powerful ritual. It's an experience and one I highly reccoment you to experience at least once in your life.
Excited to watch this video- I was at this show, front row. I spent the majority of their performance with my eyes closed, absorbing their music, their voices, the energy. It was an INCREDIBLE experience! Definitely the most breathtaking band I've seen at Castlefest so far. With Sowulo being a very close second.
And Maria? I can’t even start to say words. Fantastic she is. It’s awesome to see people who have found their thing. The folks who are better at that than I’ll ever be at anything. Once again (for the moment) my ears are finding peace within all their sounds.
19:39 - Jonas Lorentzen (the vocalist on the right with the leather mask) said in an interview that Kai Faust (the shaman/lead male vocalist), though he's since worked like a madman and learned how to sing "properly", had absolutely no vocal training before he joined Heilung - but the beauty of him is that his voice is so powerful because "he doesn't give a shit". Also, for a different side of them - Alfadhirhaiti, from the same concert. Your face will be a picture...
And this was the first time that he ever step on a stage on his life. I find it amazing that this show was the first ever for them. And prior to it, they just rehersaal one time. Heilung is helping make the music to a video game called Hellblade 2: Senua's Saga which puts you into the shoes of a woman suffering from psychosis and the first trailer for that game features this very song! Another amazing singer that has done stuff for video games is Eivor who was a singer for the God of War ost done by Bear McCreary. I would recommend giving "Eivor - Falling Free live at Old Theater in Torshavn" a chance, its mesmerizing. Also Maria Franz has her own band called "Euzen" where she sings more contemporary styles. Im not terribly familiar with her songs from "Euzen" so i cant recommend anything but maybe someone can help me out with that below. Thanks again for the impassioned analysis.
Watching you experiencing Heilung must be the higlight of this year for me; seeing you nerding out over the vocal techniques and the emotions you go through as you listen to this "one of a kind" band made me smile! Regarding the native tounges of the band-members, they all speak germanic languages (i.e languages that are modern versions of the language they sing in) so in general, it's not extremely hard for them to match vowels/consonants, even if there are clear differences between all the modern germanic languages, it's not that hard to bridge those sounds.
@@Fueroballguy To be accurate, this one is indeed 'the alphabet song' for the Elder Futhark. Norupo is a song made from the poem about the runes, though it is indeed the Younger Futhark in that case. Elder was the writing system used in part of the Bronze Age of Scandinavia. By the time of the ever popular viking era (really just late Migration era with more sea raids) the Younger Futhark was in standard use.
And yes I like to call it the most metal alphabet song 😅 It works too, I studied runes for years and had a general idea where they went in order but just wasn't able to reliable recite them past, say, Isa. A couple repetitions of this song and there was no getting it out of my head. So effective.
One of the musicians uses a human forearm to bang the drum. They also take words from ancient texts into their lyrics. I as an indigenous person (Navajo [Diné]) believe that they are reviving their people's ancestral tradition and culture. I love listening to their music on blast when I am driving home on the Navajo Indian Reservation in southwestern USA. Their performances aren't concerts; they're actually rituals/ceremonies.

Experiencing this in person is absolutely phenomenal! Maria's voice is unbelievable. The first time I heard this solo I was convinced it was some sort of electronic instrument. But seeing and hearing her flex that amazing voice in person is not to be missed. And the drums! You can feel those drums in your blood when you're in the room with them! You should listen to 'Myrkur'. She's a Danish singer that uses black metal and folk genres to make her music, its pretty neat. The song 'Ulvinde' is all in Danish and is pretty cool and haunting.
Hi there. Im from Sweden and i can say this much. Marias song technique reminds me of what we call "Kulning"/ "enticing cries" and "Jojk". Kulning is an overarching term for Scandinavian vocal folk music with origins from Dalarna, and Jojk comes from the Sami traditions in the north of Sweden. Both very old song techniques.
Joik is very special as a whole, because mostly a joik is given to a person as a gift at a crucial time (birth, confirmation, being accepted into the sami society/family). So it's a lot more than just a song or a technique :)

Love the whole Heilung team, but when Maria is "let loose" I get goosebumps all over.
"Unleash Maria!"
Maria's voice is one of the few that can bring me to tears. Heilung in general really calls back to those ancestral roots of things that we evolved for thousands of years to be moved by, but her voice calls deeper to something spiritual even in the completely non-spiritual person like myself. Shit is WILD.
omg exactly the same
I flat out had a religious experience listening to her voice
@@Ψυχήμίασμα Duuuude it's probably the closest I have ever and will ever come to a spiritual experience (I'm about as non-spiritual as you can get lol). Music has a way with that kind of thing. Taps into some ape brain biology or something, haha.

@@TheCharismaticVoice Anytime.
@@TheCharismaticVoice You don't want to hear two banshees at the same time. Well, you do, but it's pure interference. It's an utterly fascinating sound.
The cackling in the background is the audience.
A Heilung "concert" is more like a ritual than anything else.
Happy viking noises :)
Com certeza! Aliás, eu não acho eu tenho certeza.
I also really like Maria's physical performance. She inhabits the role of a priestess from late antiquity very well, just in how she moves.

Has anyone told you yet that this was their FIRST live performance EVER? This is also the first song of the concert.
Yeah, that is quite amazing. I never heard of an outfit choosing to record their first public performance for posterity. More conventional bands (i.e pretty much all bands) normally do a couple near the end of the tour when everything is smooth and mix them into one live video.
I can't believe it! :o
And it was last minute notice to play. The original band backed out last minute.
😮 wait really. Thats crazy, i just got this album. Puts it in perspective, thats amazing.
Maria Franz has an impossibly beautiful voice. I want to exist in the soundscape of the second half of this song forever.
some of what Maria was doing during her section was inspired by Kulning, ancient Scandanavian herd singing, intended to carry.
Still used today by some.
A sound that should never be forgotten.
Absolutely kulning, like when calling in the cattle in Dalarna, Sweden. Then it went in to something very close to the Sami joik. Both kulning and joik are ancient Scandinavian singing techniques.
Kulning
A herding call, Calling the cattle home.
Ah, that's very interesting. Thanks.
Some Musicians I know use Kulnings in their songs like Myrkur or Fejd. It's amazing~
New data on this musical theme:
The song's title can be found in the Mesogothic Anglo-Saxon glossary as "In-Maidjan", which means "deceptively change" or "corrupt".
Means servant of the glorious
Niwaremariz - Priest of the god "Ullr" / famous, renowned. From the proto-Germanic term Wulþuz (glory) wolþu- is possibly a reference to a God, surely the God Ullr.
Saawilagar Hateka - My name is Sawilagaz.
Harja - Army - leader of the army; commander; Warrior
Wuotani Ruoperath Wuotani - Oh, Wodan! Ruoperath - famous and brilliant.
This could be interpreted as the following:
I, Priest Harigast.
Aaccept the invitation (to battle)
I am the Heruli.
I am a renowned priest of Ullr.
They call me Warrior.
Oh, Wodan the famous and brilliant!

Im so happy Heilung is getting some love. Bringing about more understanding of old Norse paganism makes my little norse heart happy

Just imagine a bunch of people in the jungle playing it but you can’t see where it’s coming from 😟
Guess it's handy they were wearing studded leather skirts rather than pants! No skidmarks on the uniform.

I can find nothing that indicates "Swedish" kulning has influenced anything.
That's exactly who I stumbled across and learned what kulning was 🙂
*Scandinavian, not Swedish. It has a few names, hyrdekald, huldrelokk, kulning - kulning is most commonly used in Sweden.
Came here to say the 2nd half of Maria's solo totally feels like it's kulning inspired.
Especially that little yip at the end is very typical for kulning. Amazing sound to hear in the forest. Carries for miles.

Your in-depth analysis not only of the vocalists but also of the music itself makes your reactions more valuable than others.
this exactly
Man lol. I thought she was comparing them to “The Who” not “The Hu”
I came here to comment about that. The Who? Pinball Wizard & My Generation The Who? How is that possible? Ok, The Hu not The Who. Got it.
Yeah, that got a raised eyebrow from me
@@MeatballCereal Same, I thought that's what she meant haha, The Who have a some kind of throaty rock screaming for that era, like the "Yeaaaaah" in Won't Get Fooled Again

This is the #1 reason I love talking about The Hu with my parents

Excited to watch this video- I was at this show, front row. I spent the majority of their performance with my eyes closed, absorbing their music, their voices, the energy.

I just discovered your channel today and I can’t stop watching these reactions! You are so expressive and passionate, and your enthusiasm is contagious. You seem like the coolest person to play D&D with, sing with, or have a cup of tea with! Thanks for the joy!
My favorite song by this band from their first two albums - Maria's voice is absolutely haunting here. Great analysis!!
it still feels surreal seeing how popular this concert/band has gotten knowing i was working as a volunteer at the festival only
Remember, that we all are brothers
All people, beasts, trees and stone and wind
We all descend from the one great being
That was always there
Before people lived and named it
Before the first seed sprouted !
Ginnungagap. The Yawning Chasm. Groans with the power of unlimited potential. The formless energy of all.
Maria is definitely the star if any Heilung Concert, she is an absolute master..
I believed this to be healing music, so beautiful, I listen to it every day.
YES GIRL! Been waiting for this! As usual, you know how to build the hype with the thumbnail. I swear it's getting crazier each reaction 😆 Hope you and Kirk (and Krakino!) had a wonderful Thanksgiving 💛
We did, thank you Juliette! And Kirk picks the thumbnails sometimes just to troll me.
This may very well have been the best review of any song .... really anything I’ve watched on UA-cam. You’re definitely a very interesting person to say the least and I mean that in the best possible way . Thank you for this .
Wow, thank you William! I try really hard to be an effective analyst for all of you.
@@TheCharismaticVoice I don’t think you have to try at all to make incredible content . I’ve now watched several of your reactions and they are all excellent. Also you’re very welcome!
OMG YESSSSS
Oh, another fun fact, Heilung is working together with the highly awarded indie game studio Ninja theory, for the second installation of a Senua game.
In Maidan is used to great effect:

Amazing analysis!!! Thank you for providing!!
@@iofb.hulder Happy to provide! There are more veils to be lifted, but that's a journey best experienced by yourself :)
I recognize the effort and work you put in for this comment and insight and it's appreciated.
@@semaj_5022 Thank you for the kind words, heil og sael!
I have never just adored a speaking voice before until I came across your channel and your voice. Without sounding too fanboy-ish, you don't just have a beautiful voice, how you communicate with it is equally lovely. Your joy with sound is articulated spectacularly, I learn something new with each video to evolve my appreciation for music I enjoy. Came across your Wardruna reaction, stayed for Heilung... subscribed. Have you considered doing ASMR explanations?
I'm seeing them in Red Rocks in October too! I'll keep an eye out for you. Love the channel.
That’s awesome! How do you find these concerts?
Heilung will be at Red Rocks Amphitheater in October next year, grab your tiefling horns and join us at the concert!! By the way, you do an amazing job breaking down the different sounds, styles, and intricacies of the performances you review. It's far superior to other "vocal coach reactions channels." Through your videos, I have been introduced to so many new, amazing artists! Keep up the stellar work you do! (And I may be biased, but please do more Heilung and Devin Townsend!!)
I might just have to make that trip!
@@TheCharismaticVoice I just talked to my wife about this. Depending on COVID we are going to try to go. You should host a Charismatic meet-up!
I am curious how they are going to do that with the pandemic, but will be looking forward to it if happens because I live in Colorado
I'd like to help out regarding Euzen. Good listenings imo are:
- Judged By
- Mind
- Phobia
- Metamorph
- Mirage
@@StormchaserWestNRW mirage is my absolute favourite!
@@StormchaserWestNRW Metamorph LIVE version !!! Totally the best version !!
The Hellblade 2 trailer features an older recording of this song, before maria played a bigger role in it.
I like the live version of Judged By ua-cam.com/video/H_e9981P2Xw/v-deo.html
It's crazy to think that this performance was their second life show and they only had two days to practise for it!
@RedHeadOtter Yeah, dude is making it sound like they just made these songs. lol
After listening to this song, my beard has grown its own beard.
Lol, love that!
This is the most epic ABC song ever. It's simply the ABC of runes.
That's norupo
@@GiskardRevenlov This too, I think they are both different runic alphabets. There are many variants.
@@Fueroballguy ah, I didnt notice, one is elder the other is the newer
Next one i"d recommend is Hamrer Hippyer. its a Healing chant/song thats just fun to hear once it gets going.
HAMMAMAH
HIPIPIPI
It almost sounds like trance.
They are incredible Live! It is a well deserved Nerd out! They are so amazing and the energy from their shows is spectacular!
I attended a show in Chicago recently, it was beyond incredible, I was moved to tears
I'm descendent from norse roots and it's been very difficult to understand where I come from. Heilung is the closest I've obtained to a connection thus far. Thank you for pointing out the sacred nature of these words.
@@GonzoSarge I'm such a fing mutt, I don't know where my roots are, Belgium from my mom, I think, my dad was adopted so no idea there, but this music really speaks to me deeply nonetheless.
Thank you for responding to the ritual sense of Heilung. And similar respect to your own traditions. For me the meaning always fall just past the border of understNdability
There is a theory that Indo-European and Indo-Austronesian share an ancestor together. I'm Chamorro Austronesian, so maybe that's why I feel a connection 😅 lmao idk.
This is the 2,597th comment on this video so I don't know if you'll ever see it but thank you Elizabeth for bringing Heilung into my life. I had never heard of them until a few weeks ago and now I am transfixed. I'm a huge metalhead and so its not something I would normally listen to but this music has done something to me and I'm forever grateful for it. Now all I want to do is see a ritual live. Hopefully soon! Thanks again, I won't forget it.
I absolutely adore your love for music and just how apparent it is. I'm so glad you got around to reacting to In Maidjan. Since you've shown interest in all sorts of music I'd like to suggest Nina Hagen's "Naturträne" from Rockpalast. I'd love to hear your opinion on it and see what you think of her singing. Thanks for the content!
i was so hoping for this one!!! wardruna needs to be next!!!!
Wardruna - Voluspa Orchestral version!
Kvitravn or LYfjaberg
Similarly wild experimental vocals in the live performance from Eivor singing Trodlabundin in her flower dress. The contrast between her flowery outfit and some of the sounds she makes is fantastic!
I know this is suuuuuuper late, and i actually watched this when it was but a wee week old. Your reactions to mainly Heilung, but also to everybody else is by far the best. That may be why I'm back watching you "nerd out" again and show genuine soul filled surprise and a kind of love for one of my favorite Pagan bands. Thank you for being real ❤
I cannot wait to see them again in January!
You should listen to 'Myrkur'. She's a Danish singer that uses black metal and folk genres to make her music, its pretty neat. The song 'Ulvinde' is all in Danish and is pretty cool and haunting.
This! Love Amelie’s work. I personally would recommend Nattens Barn as it shows both sides of her music.
Also, her kulning is just epic!
Hi there. Im from Sweden and i can say this much. Marias song technique reminds me of what we call "Kulning"/
"enticing cries" and "Jojk". Kulning
is an overarching term for Scandinavian vocal folk music with origins from Dalarna, and Jojk comes from the Sami traditions in the north of Sweden. Both very old song techniques.
Sami people live also in Norway and Finland though they're not swedish finnish or norwegian. Edit: and Russia
Joik is very special as a whole, because mostly a joik is given to a person as a gift at a crucial time (birth, confirmation, being accepted into the sami society/family). So it's a lot more than just a song or a technique :)
@@Orjonast Thats very true, I totaly forgot. Im sorry if i offended anyone by saying its just a technique.
The next best thing to the awesome live performance is listening to you explaining exactly why it's so awesome.
Whoever suggested this thanks!!! I found a new band I love.
I've got 2 more Heilung videos for your enjoyment, and an interview with Maria Franz of Heilung on the channel. Give them a look!
