For everyone who suggested this...thank you. I doubt I'd ever have just stumbled across this group. And that would have left life smaller. So again, thank you.
I had the blessing of seeing Heilung live last year and it was an overwhelming experience. I cried for half the time as it felt like every song was hammering out decades of trauma I'd held in my body and never knew it. The crowd was absolutely loving and caring for each other & the Earth. My particular ritual (they are very much more a ritual than a concert) was incredibly powerful when they had the Catawba Tribe of Native Americans precede them with sanctifying the space with sage before performing their own blessing. Then they returned at the end for a full out dance and song combined with Heilung's own ending ritual for a beautiful combined experience. Again, more tears. I will absolutely go again if given the chance to.
Lolli - please watch the official video , not just live version- it is stunning and brilliant - the story in the video is spellbinding - thanks again for reviewing this
@@darccyde Both are equally incredible to listen too.. that said, the video is mesmerising and truly captures the meaning of the song. The cinematography alone is worth of an award....One of the greatest "short films" ever.
Yes, the official video tells the story of Anoana and is vivid and gorgeous. I highly recommend you cast your peepers over that to get the full experience :) I’m so glad you enjoyed this!
The language isn’t modern. They use proto-Norse, proto-German, etc. If you want to hear Maria using some more, and different, techniques, listen to “In Maidjan” live. Also, “Traust” live.
I love this song and often listen to the recorded version. When they released this live version and I first heard this ending, it genuinely sent shivers down my spine! Amazing!

So happy and thank you. As recommended by others, the official video is beautiful and a must see. In Maidjan I am sure will be mentioned as a next step and I would agree. Good times.
I finally saw them this year in concert and it was, without doubt, the best, most emotional concert I have seen in my life and I’ve been to hundreds of shows. It was on its own level.
Heilung is amazing. "Anoana" is one of their most accessible songs, but "In Maidjan" from their first ever concert Lifa will be quite the experience. It really showcases what Maria is capable of.

Always a pleasure having one of my favourite reactors finding my favourite band!! I agree with everyone, you do need to see the official music video for this one. I want to see your reaction to the end of the video especially!! Next on the list, In Maidjan, Alfadhirhaiti, and Krigsgaldr ❤

at the end it looked like you were choking up. Don't worry 25K Heilung fans viewed this and cried with you. Start were we all did with Heilung Lifa Full Show...the 1st song has some amazing vocals by Maria.
Seen 'Heilung' a few weeks ago for the first time. It was a truly magical, captivating, spiritual experience. The music was so powerful and uplifting and calming my mind at the same time. You feel the energy in the room. Everyone abandoned themselves to the music, dancing in their own way.
I'm simply ecstatic that you're venturing into Heilung. As much as I love Anoana, I do hope that you will give us an analysis of 'In Maidjan' specifically from their LIFA performance. Maria's voice is breathtakingly beautiful.

Heilung is an experience best served live for sure. Their name meaning Healing is such a match to the music and the experience. Thanks for the quality analysis,, as always.
I'm so glad you've finally got around to this, I love this song so much. Its one of those songs I feel just as much as I hear, stick it on in a blackened room and its a bewildering experience.
I clicked on the thumbnail for this a couple of weeks ago, but only played a few seconds. Glad I waited to hear it now! Love that you called Yma Sumac “not relaxed.” She is always intense. Her Mambo album is a bit more accessible, though still strange and fantastic.
I love how you literally destructured the whole song into the individual voices and patterns they used as well as recreated with almost ease what some consider to be overtone singing, which produces two (or more) notes at the same time, which from what I was told is one of the hardest things to do. The whole act had clearly a very celtic or druidic feel to it, which is a common theme, I guess, for northern European countries ranging from Northern Germany to Ireland, Scottland and parts of Scandinavia.
Yet another absolutely unparalleled reaction to a musical masterpiece. I had been hoping and waiting for you to dive into Heilung. I knew your explanations of what is happening and your ability to literally demonstrate it in real time as you describe it to us would be absolutely brilliant, impressive, and enlightening. I positively cannot wait to see you explore more of this incredible band and share the journey with us. Please do some breakdowns of several of the live performances from Lifa, as others have suggested. Also, definitely check out the video for this song as mentioned. It is exceptionally powerful.
The technique in the high parts are "kulning", the traditional Nordic hearding calls. And the bowed instrument is a tagelharpa (or talharpa), literally "horse hair harp", that has been used in Swedish parts of Estonia, and that some believe was used all over the Nordic countries
Binging your videos, would absolutely love more Heilung! (but I'll watch anything you put out - as someone who can't sing at all, I live vicariously through you 😂)

@@jewfish68 Seeing Eivor at Red Rocks back in April was incredible, you'll love it! I wish her set was longer but seeing Heilung again was also great. Pretty easily my favorite concert ever!
My favorite Heilung album is still LIFA. And my favorite song is Krigsgaldr. Please just listen to the live castlefest recording of the whole show in 2017. Krigsgaldr is a (Anti) war song, where Maria Franz plays some Human bones. And every time I hear it, it puts me in a light trance. Their music is really magical.
First of all, thank you for deciding to react to Heilung. They are amazing and really quite unique. If you really enjoyed them, you you should also try out Myrkyr (specially their album Folkesange) and Wardruna (if you haven't already of course - sorry, new to the channel!)

If you get a chance to catch Heilung live, do it! Absolutely do it! They are bloody amazing live. Don't miss them, you will regret it.
Also, as others have said, check out the official video, it's class!
I'm seeing Eivor next month but she is actually supporting Heilung which I didn't know much about. Looks like I'm going to enjoy both acts.
@@jewfish68 If you enjoyed this video then you will absolutely love them live. Definitely a powerful and unique experience.
Really cool atmosphere, thanks so much for your thoughts on this song!
Seen them live 3 times and chills every time so yeah.... Seeing them again this sunday 🙂
First of all, thank you for deciding to react to Heilung. They are amazing and really quite unique. If you really enjoyed them, you you should also try out Myrkyr (specially their album Folkesange) and Wardruna (if you haven't already of course - sorry, new to the channel!)
I truly appreciate your reaction to this song, as it validates my own. After two listens to the complete album, "Drif", I feel like I'm living in a different world.
