Its weird, when ever i listen to Heilung i get two kinda moods.. When Maria starts singing i kinda wanna cry, her voice is that beautiful.. When Kai and Chris start singing i wanna go berserk...
Not an horror film, but a version of this song is in the 2020 Hellblade 2 trailer, a videogame to be release next year. The soundtrack is going to be made by Heilung
The song they did immediately after this one, Alfadhirhaiti, is an absolute banger. Also the stringed instrument played with the bow is a Ravanahatha. It makes a sort of droning sound
They're all pretty interconnected, as the Germanic peoples spread rather far and wide. Some settled in Scandanavia and became the Norse, there was of course the Angles, Saxons, Jutes and Frisians settled in Britain, and the various Goths, Franks, Vandals and others who spread into the Roman Empire. A surviving legacy of that culture is found in the English names for the days of the week, all named after Germanic gods.
Came here to post this. Also, the woman who vouces/motion captures Senua is actually voicing the song in the trailer. She worked with Heilung to learn how to throat sing. You can hear both his and her voices in the trailer... it's amazing
Go see the ritual in Baltimore!!! It's life changing! The main part of the song is reciting the names of the 24 Futhark runes: Fehu, Uruz, Thurizaz, Ansuz, Raido, Kennaz... (F, U, Th, A, R, K). The string "flute-like" instrument is a ravanahatha (an ancient instrument used in India, Sri Lanka and surrounding areas, originating from Hela People, then brought to North India by Hanuman, then to India).
A friend of mine tricked her kids one year by using runes on their Yule (Winter Solstice) presents instead of English. Her daughter (8) went and looked up the runes in one of Mom’s books. 😂
yes it was found in Sweden. anyway when you see horns like those they are shamans in this case both Maria and Kai are the shamans on stage and if you notice they are the ones without shoes. by the way they are chanting in old norse not in their native language (Maria is from Norway Kai is from Germany).
I like all of it so far. But the reason it was my first was because it was a donation request. I’m bath happy to have found them…no matter what don’t. They are awesome.
That horn is called a lyr and it is sn instrument we have used since the bronze age here in Norway. It is still in use today as a musical instrument. And their music are in the tv series vikings, game of trones. And in the game Hellblade II Senua's Saga. And you must see them live they are amazing and you will not regret it
Heilung is something incredible that tears you apart and puts you back together again, in a new way! You need to listen to them with your eyes closed, but you don't want to miss such an impressive performance either!
Maria's voice, I.M.H.O. is the most beautiful sound I've ever heard. Though I don't know the language of most of their rituals, the emotion of said rituals will make the shamans message perfectly clear....Peace and healing of mind and spirit. They have stated that they don't have fans, They have brothers and sisters in companionship. My hope is anyone who listens to Heilung and others find peace and healing of their spirit and mind..... D. Frost proof, FL. U.S.
In Maidjan is still one of my favorites from Heilung, second only to Anoana. I love the ones that heavily feature Maria's vocals. She's a powerhouse and I think In Maidjan showcases that, her vocal flexibility. She was doing all sorts of vocal gymnastics in that short solo... the banshee scream, the parts where she almost goes polyphonic, and her incredible range. Othan is another great one of theirs I would recommend. (also from Lifa concert.) It's another Maria-dominate song. And Anoana if you haven't already.
I heard that Kai Uwe Faust and Christopher Juul were working on this new project (that would become Heilung) and Maria came in. They asked her to do a few vocals for a song, telling her to just do whatever she want. She threw a bunch of vocal gymnastics and tricks at them figuring they would chop it up and sample it. They loved it so much that they kept everything exactly as she sang it and that's why her "vocal solo" in this song is so technically impressive.
I saw them live in Berlin, it's really something else, i can't describe it right now, it's life changing, gonna see them live again in August the 31st. here in Berlin, i can't wait
Well that was mesmerizing. I loved her voice. Her outfit reminded me of the Celtic God of the Forest Cerrnunous. (Represented by a stag) At the start i got a bit of The Hu then it exploded frim there. Lol. Ill have to check them out for sure. Thanks Jeremy for this.
Its wild to think that this is the first song they ever performed at a live event. What an opener... you would think they've been doing live shows for decades.
By all means, if you have the possibility, go to the concert. The luve experience is on a whole different level. They are fantastic. And I can't wait to see them again. They really take you on a journey.
If you feel something stirring deep inside you don’t be alarmed. The old ways are still within you. You are everything you are today but you are also this too.
That screeching in the beginning Maria does...had me thinking I was watching Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining". Awesome reaction! Her voice is something out of this world.
I was fortunate enough to see them in Pittsburgh last year. It was very cool. Maria does another song that is very cool called Songleikr | Ulvetime (Hour of the Wolf). It's a pretty interesting video as well, in studio.
I was luck enough to see Heilung in February this year in Manchester (UK), and can say it was an amazing experience, if anybody get the opportunity to see them I advise them to go.
You should book your concert tickets as fastas you can, because I think that concert might be an experience many religious search for at church/temple. Only this will bring you back to your genetic roots, no matter ethnicity. Ancient music was very much the same all over the world: the drums beating the same rythm, the chanting followed the beat of the drums, the vocals without words that sung more of the soul, emotions and situations than certain topics. If you go, I'll be envious of you. Yet, I'll be happy you got to experience it. ❤
This song is actually connecting to Odin’s FuthArk Rune stones as they are naming off all 25 runes Runes from Fehu - Othala each stone represents something very powerful in rune stones readings similar to Tarot readings as the spreads for the stones are similar as well. Fehu: Wealth and Prosperity, Tiwaz: Justice and Honor, Ansuz: Wisdom and Communication, Gebo: Partnership and Balance.
You should definitely see them live, it is such an experience compared to video. I got to see them in September with a friend of mine, we both left the 2 hour concert feeling so blown away and eagerly waiting for them to come back this way again. Sadly they are touring parts of the country I'm not in this year.
This makes me invision the march to battle, the actual fight and when Maria sings it's a pure white owl flying over the ruins of the battle as brothers pick up each other and find their fallen brethren.
Oh lucky you, hope you get to go see them then! I'm absolutely going if they come somewhere near where i live. I love this kind of music, so therapeutic. On another note: i get to go see Home Free in Oslo this september! So exited! 🤩🤩
You have to see them in concert. Their rituals are like no other. The music truly gets into your soul and makes every fiber of your being vibrate. Being a follower of the old ways, it really connects you to that ❤
5:01 in a horror movie... the killer creeping slowly up to your house..... listening to the music you hear(just this) and fearfully goes to search victims elsewhere....
fun fact, this song (or a version of it) was used a couple years ago in the announcement trailer for the upcoming game Hellblade: Senua's Saga (a sequel to Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice) would you be interested in reacting to that video as well?
I have a suggestion - There's an incredible talent that so far has had no coverage, no reaction videos, nothing. Have a look at Kiki Rockwell, a New Zealand (via California and Germany) artist that combines folk with electronica in a really interesting way. Songs I'd recommend are Cup Runneth Over, Same Old Energy or Madeline. *but you can't go wrong with any of her tracks.
Heilung does play music from the Germanic Iron Age, but also they take some of their songs from old Norse Sagas, Icelandic Sagas (Viking age songs), etc...they run the spectrum of Iron Age Northern Europe. The band is made up of members from Scandanavia (Denmark & Norway) and Germany.
@@redtonyred there are some interesting reviews on this band by music historians. They explain it better than I ever could, plus Roman historians wrote about the music and did contemporary historians with the other periods.
The song is about the dawning corruption of a peaceful village into war by foreign pillagers. The whole ritual tell the story. Besides: Futhark isnt just the germanic ABC but also supposed to be spells. Chanting them was a kind of meditation and indication for moods.
Heilung is history done as right as it can be, considering how many tribal traditions were lost to Christianity. I believe they share lyrics, and translations. My friends saw them at Red Rocks with the Hu. Apparently it was a spiritual event! 🤘💜
"Remember, that we all are brothers All people And beasts and trees And stone and wind We all descend from the one great being That was always there Before people lived and named it Before the first seed sprouted" i would do a joke about roman empire but no one dislike this video :D xD
Nevermind a horror "movie". Heilung is doing at least some of the ost for Hellblade 2. This same song features in the trailer for the game. (If an even more horrifying version of it) should maybe react to the trailer if you havent. (The instrument is a "Ravanahatha" btw, the oldest known stringed instrument to be played with a bow)

7:47 They are singing every single rune of the Elder Futhark (basically the old Germanic version of the alphabet's ABC song).
The forbidden ABC’s 😂
The song they did immediately after this one, Alfadhirhaiti, is an absolute banger. Also the stringed instrument played with the bow is a Ravanahatha. It makes a sort of droning sound
To be fair, I think Heilung draw on a fairly long time span of Northern European Germanic cultures, including the early viking age
in a recent album they go back all the way to the first song we have the lyrics for
They're all pretty interconnected, as the Germanic peoples spread rather far and wide. They actually used this song in the first reveal trailer Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II at the The Game Awards 2019, it is super affective.

Maria's outfit is a replica of one that was found in an archaeological dig, I believe it was that of a shaman.
A female shaman found in Germany I think.

This is my favorite Heilung performance. For some reason Krigsgaldr is the most often first listen for new reactors.

You absolutely need to see them live the power of these sights and sounds indoors!
This, and similar sounds, are what I put on when I'm writing.. You start picking up the vibe and the words just flow.
The string instrument is a ravanahaththa (variant names: ravanhatta, rawanhattha, ravanastron, ravana hasta veena).
The main chant/verse is a reciting of nordic ruins, over and over and over. It's an invocation of written language.
I have only watched UA-cam videos, definitely need to watch more!
That was so incredibly primal. It almost answered something deep within me.
Instance vocal ranges 🎉 the beauty of hearing a band bring traditional music 🎶 to this venue , thanks for sharing 😊
I've been to two rituals, both superb in every way !!!
