    I actually gained a lot of respect for T-Mac in this interview after hearing him talk about his tattoos. Everyone on there is trying to pressure him and he stands by what he wants to do and what he believes. It can’t be easy on national TV, being pressured by the likes of Shaquille O’Neal-I have a lot of respect for that-he’s his own person.

    2003 Duncan had one of the best start to finish seasons in NBA history that year. Tmacs my fave player ever, but Duncan deserved the MVP. Start go finish he had one of the top 5 best seasons ever. Also it was the 2003 season we're talking about, Duncan was the only all star. @@quentinsowell3704 This is such an ignorant take. Duncan was the system. The Spurs literally played around Duncan during the early to mid 2000s. The reason why everyone found the Spurs boring was because they constantly played around Duncan just posting up and him deciding what to do from there. Ginobili was a rookie and Parker was only in his 2nd year in 2003. David Robinson was also at the end of his career. Duncan carried the Spurs in 2003. It was only until the later 2000s when the Spurs became that great all-around team with a great system.

It was an unserious observation based on the FACT that no host of any talk show or podcast is reclining to the degree that he does. I dont know, maybe you've seen shows where the interviewer (OR interviewee) is pretty much laying down.

    Shaq was right on the point. Duncan was on another level that year too he definitely was the Spurs and even Parker, Ginobli and Pop all admit there is no championships or the playoffs they might have been close to a 50/50 record but they don't win without Duncan and they aren't Hall of famers without Tim getting doubled constantly and feeding them the ball to give them the chances to develop and get easier shots off to become the players they became. Idc nobody compares to Kobe or even D Wade on his teams, Tim made everyone better and was the anchor for their defense which was always the top of the list as the best defensive team back than and you don't have the best defense without Tim Duncan

    One point Tracy is overlooking is how stacked the West was back then. When the Lakers went on that 3-peat, everyone knew the Western Conference Finals winner was the Finals winner. THAT was the real championship. Facing the East's winner was just a formality.
    The Pistons bucked that trend at the height of the Shaq/Kobe beef, but ain't no way the Pacers, 76ers, Nets, whoever was going to win a series against the Lakers or Spurs (or even others) at that time. The Magic just making the playoffs in the East was not as impressive as what Duncan did when Manu & Parker were new & Robinson was on his last leg.

    2003 WS/48, T-Mac lead the league in WS/48 (.262) with 75 games played, Shaq was second (.250) with 67 games played, .250 isn’t close at all if you know WS/48.
    T-Mac also lead the league in VORP (9.3), KG was second at 8.7, Shaq was 7th (5.5).
    T-Mac also lead the league in PER and BPM.
    When we look at the recent MVPs, 10 of last 12 winners lead the league in WS/48. With the exception of 2 winners who won by media narrative which was Westbrook and Embiid, they’ve never lead the league in WS/48 in their entire career. Last 3 seasons it was lead by Jokic, the 2 seasons before it was Giannis.
    So going by this, MJ should have won 8 MVP, both KG and Dirk should have had 2 each, and T-Mac should have gotten 1.

    TMac is one of my favorite players in the history of the sport but dude wasn't even top 3 for the MVP award in 2003. His team wasn't the 6th seed they were the 8th seed in the very weak eastern conference. For perspective the Rockets were the 9th seed in the west and didn't make the playoffs, but had a better record. Another thing; The western conference that year had 6 teams with at least 50 wins. The number 1 seed in the east only had 50 wins and were the only team with 50 wins in that conference. Tim Duncan was the driving force of a 60 win team in the west in one of the most competitive conferences we've ever seen. TMac is right that he absolutely carried that team to the playoffs, but let's not act like it was as great of a carry job like Iverson in 2001 or Russ and Harden in 2017. If TMac carried the Magic to the 1st seed in the east with the same stats then we would have a debate, but nah there's no debate on what actually happened.

David was in his last season, still great at times but suffering from the back injury that finally ended his career. Although still the starter, he actually played fewer minutes than his backup, Rose.

      It's sad, but part of the reason relatively younger players such as T-Mac think like this is because the sports media since about 2015 has tried to convince us that the Duncan-led Spurs were a superteam. A superteam that couldn't ever win BTB and went through a finals appearance drought until they got a young Kawhi Leonard to offset an aging Duncan. Shaq is correct here.
      The Spurs were a very good team and very consistent team but despite all the credit Popovich used to get, it all hinged on Tim Duncan. His presence made them a 50+ win team every season. But they were never a superteam. Ever. It's just revisionism due largely to the GOAT debate over which some people want to dismiss LeBron's losses to the Spurs in 2007 (wherein LeBron played poorly and lost two very close games in Cleveland) and 2014 (wherein the Heat were absolutely in the series until Kawhi outplayed LeBron the last three games of the series). They weren't THAT good.
      Tony became an all star, but he was never a superstar. And Manu was a 6th man who could be clutch but perhaps would've been exposed on another team as the primary option. They're probably going to be hall of famers because they won 4 titles with Duncan, but some people (I think disingenuously) throw that term around too loosely when assessing how talented a team was; there are levels and not every hall of famer was a superstar caliber player (maybe they should've been to be allowed in, but that's NBA hall of fame standards for you).
      And to address T-Mac's specific point on the playoffs, maybe the Spurs without Duncan could still make the playoffs in the weak east of those days, but not the west.

Tony and Manu are obviously hall of famers, but in 03 Parker was a sophomore point guard that was always getting chastised by pop lol and Manu was a 25 year old rookie. In the Western Conference in 03 there's a real shot San Antonio doesn't make the playoffs without Duncan. The thing nobody talks about is how great players mask the weaknesses of others. Take Duncan off that team, suddenly you realize David Robinson ain't good enough to man the paint defensively himself, you really see how broke Tony Parker's jumpshot was during that time, and you get more reckless plays from Manu Ginobli and Stephen Jackson. It ain't just about taking production off the team it's how it trickles down to everyone else.

    MJ, Kobe, TMac, AI, the scorers have that Ali mentality that when they walk into the gym, they own it. But for TMac to say that he eclipsed Duncan in 03 was incorrect. Spurs won the 03 championship because TD carried them through a prime Shaq and Kobe, an offensive juggernaut in the Mavs, followed by a Nets team with a prime JKidd and RJ and KMart as lob targets. The second best player on that Spurs team was Captain Jack. Manu, although a grizzled Euro vet, was still an NBA rookie finding his place in the league and on the roster. Parker was still a 3rd year player and not up to JKidd’s level. I think the regular season MVP needs to be determined after the finals or immediately after the regular season ends. They also need to clarify the benchmarks that a player needs to surpass to qualify for the award.
    I wish TMac and TD would have teamed up. A Lakers-Magic finals would have been pretty exciting!

    Putting crazy numbers on bad teams is easier than in good teams because you gotta sacrifice. A good example is when Jordan had no help he put the craziest numbers of his career. Averaged like 37ppg, but when his teammates got better the numbers dropped. Does that mean that the 87 Jordan was better than 91? No

    • @THISISRISE
      @THISISRISE 2 роки тому +14

      That's a terrible example because those 37pts were based on not playing in the triangle. The triangle was about ball sharing. We saw the same from kobe when he averaged 35 one year. As soon and Phil came back his numbers dipped.

    • @gamble777888
      @gamble777888 2 роки тому +8

      I don't think you are making the point you think you're making. Firstly the best year of Jordan's career was the 35 ppg season the year after that 37 point season. There are metrics that measure that. The 91 season was better than the 37 point season but not better than the 35 point season, which is probably the single best individual season in the history of the NBA... the fact it did not result in a championship is due to the talent around Jordan. Point is PPG does not indicate anything, you are 100% right about that, but In T-Mac's case though the 02 season isn't just about PPG, every advanced metric for example Box/+-, VORP, PER, Win Shares etc. had him ranked as the most impactful player in the NBA that season. Offensively by a country mile, and also overall... now it's also completely true that metrics we have now are fantastic at tracking offene but poor at capturing defensive impact soyou can absolutely make the argument 100% that Tim's defensive impact puts him on top of McGrady. But to disregard Grady as putting up big numbers on a bad team doesn't hold any water. His impact on the team was enormous. That Magic team could have been challenging for worst record in NBA history without McGrady, and that's no exageration. They had several key rotation players that wouldn't have been on the roster of 90% of NBA teams that year,.

    • @gamble777888

      @@kevinchavis2755 The thing is what "numbers" are we talking about? PPG is a bad stat, everyone knows that. But McGrady's advanced stats were insane that year, better than anyones.
