    It's weird how different hair types can be, I've went from hot rollers to curling iron to pin curls and the quickest as well as longest lasting results are with pin curls! I use bobby pins and sleeping pins on the sides (so I can sleep without ripping it out!) and I love the results, I feel like now that I can do my curls in under half an hour I can finally try more styles. Your channel has helped me so much with this also! So thank you so much! I hope your endeavors and travelling all go according to plan!~

      Lauren Seals What type of hair do you have? I have thin, baby fine hair and I'm trying to figure out if I can get pin curls to work. I think they are best because they cause the least amount of damage, but my hair shows every imperfection.

    After sifting through a ton of bad pin curl tutorials I was just about to give up when I came across yours. I'm so glad that I didn't give up because your tutorial is the best one I've ever seen! The tips that you give are great and practical and I like how you did a mix of standing and flat pin curls and explained the difference. I know this video is older so I don't know if you bother looking at your comments on it anymore, but if you do I was wondering what to do with the front section of hair if you have short bangs. I have short "Betty bangs" and I can't find a good wet set pin curl tutorial that has a pattern to address that. Should I do one small row of standing side pin curls behind my bangs then continue with back facing standing pin curls for the rest of my crown? Or just do my whole crown with back facing standing pin curls? If anyone else has advice with this, I would really appreciate it! Thanks so much for the awesome video!

      Hi! I definitely still read the comments and help if I can! I tend to try and do them in the direction of the brush out. So for a side part I'll roll under and left or right as standing pin curls. But I'm sure it depends on your hair. I know Vintage Vandal addresses how she incorporates her bangs in some of her IGTV tutorials. So maybe check her out? Xxx

      @@MissBeeTownsend Thanks so much for getting back to me! I just cut my hair to shoulder length so I feel like it's at the perfect length to get a nice va va voom look with a good pin curl set. You may need to keep brushing! I cut the videos because it would take forever to show you the full brush out. I spend a long time brushing before it stops being fluffy. Also try a Denman brush. The brush makes a big difference. Sometimes they create static and ruin the brush out. Hope you can find a solution xxx

    I love your videos!! You are very good at explaining everything in a way that is easy to understand, and I thank you for that. So I tried doing pin curls last night for the first time, and I know it takes practice. But they didn't come out the way I thought they would, when I brushed them they all just became a frizzy mess. Also quite a few of the clips ( double pronged) got tangled in my hair. I don't know if my hair is too long, or what. If u have any advice I'd be very grateful. Again thank you for making such great video and yes u are very beautiful. You remind of a classic beauty from the 1940s🙂💙

    Thank you so much for this awesome tutorial. I did it all differently, I used a hot iron then rolled up the curl with my finger and pinned it in place. I also used slightly larger sections for my curls, as well as sloppier technique, because I was impatient. Sprayed it all with hairspray, left it for 3 hours...and when i unpinned and brushed it out, it was perfect!! I have long thick layered hair so I rolled it all up and pinned it to make it look short. perfect for our 1930s murder mystery party. Thank you for explaining it thoroughly and explaining where/ how to curl!!

    • @MissBeeTownsend
      @MissBeeTownsend  7 років тому +4

      Julia Cohen glad it's helpful! Let me know how it goes! Feel free to tag me on Instagram with photos - I'd love to see the results! For long hair the concept is the same, except try to do the the curls with less hair in each pincurl because the curl will inevitably be bigger because of the length. Try to keep them small and tight and leave them in overnight.

    • @MissBeeTownsend
      @MissBeeTownsend  7 років тому +1

      Julia Cohen also, the length tends to pull out the curl so it'll look more like Veronica Lake or Anita Ekberg than like the super curly, shorter styles.

When I brush out my pincurls I end up with a more 1960s look that the 1950s look I am after. Am I making my pincurls to large as when I go to one finger I end up with frizz when I do a two finger curls I end up with more of a wave. Thanks in advance Carmen 💋

      If you're getting frizz try a different setting lotion of maybe do the beer rinse I did a while ago? You definitely want to go smaller curls. Maybe you need to brush more and work around your hand to smooth out the frizz? Mine is super frizzy at first and I just keep brushing. Also, using pomade as you sculpt will help a lot xx

    Could you make a video where you buy an at-home perm kit, and you perm pin curls, if you’re willing to? I’m guessing it probably would work, and it would look really good after it’s been brushed out, and it would be way easier than doing pin curls/ hair rollers every time you wash your hair.

  • @kittenonacloud1012
    @kittenonacloud1012 7 років тому

    Another question Miss Bee. Would you say pin curls give more durable curls than hot roller curls? I've recently tried hot rollers and essentially one brush makes the curls (which do come out lovely) fall out flat. I must have a 1b/1c hair type (descriptions say these types are notoriously hard to curl and keep styled). I thought I should ask your experience as you've tried both the methods.

    • @MissBeeTownsend
      @MissBeeTownsend  7 років тому

      Absolutely! Any wet set method will hold far better than a heat set. If your hot roller set falls flat that quickly, try changing up your setting lotion, or looking into a roller alt like hot sticks or a curling wand for better results xx

      Hey darling! I have a ton of 60s vids in my 60s playlist. It explains how to tease and brush out those kinds of styles 😊 Otherwise, it depends on the individual hair style but it's worth looking for the setting patterns of certain styles (Google often has them and there's lots of 60s and 70s ones) x

      @@MissBeeTownsend Thank you so much for the prompt reply! I have shorter hair, and I was wondering how to achieve something like the hair you have in the instagram picture from your Everyday 60's Makeup tutorial video. I'm trying to figure out how to get the slight flip out at the bottom but still with some fluffy curl, so not a full on bubble flip. More of a late 50's/early 60's look I think, a la Natalie Wood or Sandra Dee. I've been trying to experiment, but it's hard for me to conceptualize how I should be brushing everything to get the look I'm aiming for.
      Sorry, that was super long and involved. I appreciate your help and all of your posts. You are probably my favorite blogger about anything vintage. Your content is so unique, approachable, and useful :)

    Are standing pin curls simply for volume?

    • @mslaurateague
      @mslaurateague 2 роки тому +1

      Yes. Look at 9:44 of the video. Standing curls not only give wave, but volume. Pinned flat to the head only gives wave.

      You want incorporate them? Pin curl the on their own rather than trying to add them into the longer hair and incorporate after its curled xx

    Tried this last night and slept with it, but it failed miserably 😭 Brushing them (upwards and gently) made all the curl disappear and 4 minutes outside and all the volume was gone 😞! I used a texturizing spray on damp hair last night and hairspray in on the dry hair in the morning - any idea on what I did wrong? It's just a fuzzy mess and I'm ready to shave it off 😭

    • @MissBeeTownsend
      @MissBeeTownsend  6 років тому +1

      +w lammy were the curls damp when you set them? Did you just use texturising spray or was it a setting lotion? Try sugar water instead and make sure the hair is damp. The right setting lotion is super important. I find most modern products are completely useless for setting hair dos.

      MissBeeTown thanks for replying! the hair was damp and used a modern texturizing spray, I will def use the sugar water next!

      Keep brushing, comb around your hand, use pomade, maybe consider using end papers when setting it to stop your ends frizzing. To keep the video shorter I edit down how long I brush but it takes a long time to take the curls. A lot of the time it's a case of stopping too early.

      Katie Poland no! I used to do it a lot but it takes up too much time these days. I do it about once or twice a week. In between I use hot rollers or I put in my go-to up-do vintage styles.

    I have a question if anyone can, like, help me out here. I want to start pin curling my hair but right now it's pretty short, right about at my shoulders, and I was planning of cutting it again just past my chin. For pin curls would it be better just to leave it kind of at the length it is now? Would cutting it shorter make pin curls harder? Thanks if anyone can help!!

    • @MissBeeTownsend
      @MissBeeTownsend  5 років тому

      In my newer videos I have a chin length bob. But it is way harder to pin curl bobbed hair because there isn't much to wrap around your finger so it falls everywhere whilst you're trying to pin it. You can do it but it takes patience and practice. Shoulder length with scoop/u-cut is easiest for pin curling IMO. Hope that helps xxx

    Luckily I have naturally curly hair, so it holds the curls really well. Also, you are probably wondering why I would pin curl already curly hair. Well I have small waves and curls, and the pin curls are bigger and prettier. Another thing you probably are wondering is how you pin curl already curly hair. Well, all you have to do is brush out your curls, like when it is dry. To prevent frizz leave in conditioner is a must. By brushing out the curls, you are breaking the way it curls and training it to mold into other shapes.
