This came out just in time for me!! My hair is fairly long and thick so when I do my pin curls the top always looks weird and now I know it was because I had too much hair in that section. Going to try it again with what I have learned in this video😊 I am super excited to show the results to my grandmother😍 Your video was very well constructed, just like your video.
I love the look on you, my hair is a bit longer and maybe thinner, would really like to know how you curled the back and what size of roller are you using, thank you.
I'm two weeks into cosmetology school, so naturally I'm all over UA-cam checking hair videos. The talent jumped right outta you on this one. Subscribing NOW.
THANK you 👍 for addressing this topic! It was one of the hardest things for me to figure out in vintage hairstyling. 😳☺️ I learned the hard way what you showed here, that thick hair usually requires less pincurls (and even rag rollers). Seeing the specific differences in pincurl settings was eye-opening! I really hope you'll be able do some more vintage hairstyle videos focusing on techniques for various hair types. Thanks for helping us continue to learn and improve!
This is lovely. I'm at the end of my tether with my hair. I'm naturally going grey & have balding very thin hair. I'm 43, I dress vintage but am at a loss with my hair. The grey is awful & won't smooth into a curler. If I pin curl, heated rollers, overnight wet set, handmade curlers. You name it I've tried it. It just never looks sleek anymore. No salon will do a middy cut for me. I've sight issues so can't even see the bCk of my hair. I have a natural curl so I've started wearing it like that to give rollers a break, but doesn't matter what I do my hair falls out daily. I'm in uk & at a loss of what to do. Maybe a perm to control the grey, no idea. Lovely video.
Hi, I am not a professional, but have grey, thinner hair now. If I were you I would not perm my hair at all, but if you are going to, just get a gentle body wave. Probably not the store bought. Did this video here help you? I am just getting ready to brush my hair out, after doing my own pin curls. I had not found this instructional earlier today. Good luck! Thinning might be a nutritional deficiency.
I am over sixty and my hair has definitely thinned, but I do find taking a b complex vitamin has helped. I know just how you feel, thinning hair feels very depressing.
I am in my later 60’s and my hair is thin. I am going to grow my bangs out. My hair was very long and I cut 14” off. Now my hair comes to my collar bone. Can you do more videos using pin curls for thin hair. I’m trying pin curls in my hair for the very first time tonight. I only had bobby-pins. It doesn’t look good. We’ll see what happens in the morning. Now to find my scarf. Loved your video.
Thank you for this video! I appreciate the time you spent on really long, thick hair. Do you have any recommendations for cuts that best serve these styles?
I wish I could see Shelby's look on violet! Both very pretty hair styles, is there anyway for tips for Cooley or curly hair I'm 3b, but would love tips gor 3b maybe 3c hairstyles, i also love seeing you actually doing it on yourself!
I dressed vintage for a while a few years ago. I started working a physical job and can't/don't wear a vintage hairdo. I didn't dress vintage for a very long time because of this. I'm still working a manual job, but I've been sewing my own vintage outfits for a while now. When I was on my hiatus, I wanted to try a hairstyle that was very popular when I was in highschool, 2012-2015. I decided to shave the side of my head. I was going for like a skrillix look, or Avril lavine or something. I've had it for about a year but I don't much care for it, so I'm trying to grow it out. I have an area about 2-3" radius around my left ear that was shaved. It's still very short, and I've been doing a middle part to help cover it as it grows back in. Do you have any tips for vintage styling while this grows back in? Or just curl, fluff, center part and use a snood? The rest of my hair goes past my shoulders about 2 or 3 inches.
Thank you for demonstrating on your hair too! Mine is fine, thin and short. What size and type of rollers did you use other than the top section of pin curls?
I do have plans for some ways I set my hair soon, but for now, I use magnetic rollers in various sizes depending on how curly I want my hair. I usually use either 5/8", 7/8" or 1". store.vintagehairstyling.com/lovely-lady-magnetic-hair-rollers/ At the back of my neck below the line of my ears, where the hair is shorter and doesn't stay on a roller as well, I use Self-grip rollers in 1/2" size. store.vintagehairstyling.com/self-gripping-rollers/
I’ve been growing my hair out, yes I really appreciate seeing on the person you doing yourself is my favorite tutorials. It’s just different than someone doing it on someone else.
This was wonderful! Thank you:) I am on the eve of my Seventyith Birthday and wonder if you can help me with a couple of questions about my medium length grey, silver, white hair? The texture is courser and the quantity of hair is shrinking, especially around my temples and at the small cowlick in the middle of the top of the back of my head. Yes, I use my phone to take pix of it. I think I look like the beautiful seasoned women I’d see at early services in church. Artfully applied make-up, gorgeous to look at square in the face and beautiful profiles, but, the back looked like they slept on it. I am trying to ward that off for as long as 😮 😅😂 possible. Would you consider posting a video for pin curls all over the head without a brush out, think Shirley Temple without the ringlets, just pulling fingers through the hair so it’s curly all over. I am new to your channel, please forgive me if you’ve posted a tutorial and I missed it. Thanks again for the instructions and the kindness. Patricia Z
I had the very long and thick hair 5 weeks ago but decided to have it cut to a layered lob which looked like the medium mannequin example, still kind of regretting it as a I really thought you NEEDED to have shoulder or shorter length for vintage styles, I just got so frustrated trying to roll up waist length hair into a victory roll
Wonderful video, helps so much! Question though... I have baby fine hair and it's thin; the bobby pins always leave a crease. I've tried several different clips and there is always a crease. Ive read that hair pins are better but I cant find any videos on how to use them. Do you have suggestions that might help? Thank you!! ❤❤
Practice sticking the pins in is slow motion; as you begin to press them in, wiggle them in a slight up-and-down motion, like a dolphin, or a boat on the waves, or a shuttle going through the loom. This will essentially "sew" the pin into your hair rather than it being stuck straight in. Again, the motion is very slight and it's an up-down motion, not a left-right motion. The tip should be moving up and down, the end in your hand should be moving up and downn but the middle should not be moving up and down (think of the pin as a little see-saw). If you don't understand at first, try it multiple times, maybe try it with an exaggeratedly long pin at first.
@@LaurenRennells well I’m not sure if it was lace front cause i’m new with wig but it is a wig for cosplay, made from Kanekalon fiber I suppose 😅 and It’s kinda soft
Can you pin your hair dry or do you have to wet it then pin your hair i'm having problems with my hair never had this problem before my mother use to pin my hair when I was a little girl do not remember how she did it

73 yrs old... pincurls.... love your video as teach my Granddaughter.
I’d love to see more content on finer, shorter hair! It seems like there’s not a lot of that in the vintage hair community.
Agreed!
Especially thinner hair.
YES!!! please and thank you 🙏🏽 ❤

@@cindibennett5755 Me too, lol. I was hoping she'd turn around and show us how the back of her own hair looked rolled.

Love it! Especially when you did your own hair. I have fine hair myself and I'd love to see more styling on fine hair!
Thank you for including the long hair version! Wonderful video and instruction. And your personality is so lovely.
Thank you so much!

I’ve just tried a completely new setting pattern and I can’t wait to see what happens when I brush out tomorrow

So excited to try this out on my now-shorter hair!
The most informative and comprehensive video I have seen on the subject.
Thank you for taking the time to break everything down in such detail! You did an awesome job of explaining everything.
Glad it was helpful!
I am excited to try this! Really great explanation and you went slow and showed each curl slowly so that my brain could focus and learn. Ha ha

So much more like this! Thank you!
Beautiful job! ❤
Thank you! 😊
I’m excited to try different hair products to cause I mainly use Nairobi hair setting diluted with some water and about 60/40 product.
Excellent tutorial! Thank you so much! I can't wait to try this!
Have fun!
Thank you so much for this video. Showing the difference in the lengths of hair was really helpful.
P.s. Shelby gossips way too much.
Thank you so much for this very informative video. Maybe in the future could you show a video using pin curls in an updo?
That pincurl tool! 💸

I’m actually working on content about cuts, so stay tuned!

Very new this this with short, fine hair. I’m curious as to why you used rollers on most of your hair vs. doing pin curls?
It was just a time saving step.

What size sponge roller did you use for the long hair?
They are 1.5 inch sponge rollers.
Could you tell me Can I use this way to style my synthetic wig, please?
And thank you for the video, I will do it on my actual hair someday
It is possible if it is a lace front wig.

Welcome!!
How much setting lotion do you add to water?
1 part setting lotion to 3 parts water, so for example, 1/4 cup setting lotion with 3/4 cups water!❤️
Hi Lauren! What European onine retailer sell your products?
Check with these retailers. Some haven’t ordered in a while, so I can’t guarantee stock. www.vintagehairstyling.com/retail-shops/european-retailers
I can’t seem to figure out what is a setting lotion here in Europe. I can only find hair spray, moose . Any idea??
Are you able to find LottaBody there?
Can you please do a tutorial of Marilyn Monroe's pin curl set?
Can you pin your hair dry or do you have to wet it then pin your hair i'm having problems with my hair never had this problem before my mother use to pin my hair when I was a little girl do not remember how she did it
It will be much easier to form the pin curl with it wet and it will hold the curl longer that way.
Thanks that what I thought just forgot
Please do my hair , I can't do it on my own 🥺
Yes you can!
Two fingers... curls basics....
Amazing video thanks so much, love content with long hair! ❤️
