    I am so glad i am going back to vintage fashion, pin curls in the evening and a basic outfit but with vintage accessories have made me feel like a million bucks. I do not use makeup everyday because it is too much work for me , but a good skincare (budget and simple!) really helps together with coloured and groomed eyebrows in my opinion. Thank you cherry doll face for charing your tips and tricks! ❤️

    I find for my hair type: thin. The less brushing I do to my curls they do not droop as much. And I actually do not use a brush for my wet set. I gently comb out my curls with my hand just like you did in the video and then I'll gently comb out my hair with a wide tooth comb. And I've seen in other vintage hair styling videos some women also using a comb for their wet sets. And thank you for your tip Cherry about teasing the curls like you showed in the video my curls last longer as well. And I agree Big Sexy Hair spray is the best hair spray for vintage hair styling. I absolutely need to buy stock in their company, I buy the hair spray all the time :)

    Another way to eliminate frizz in the brush out is to use a ceramic ion paddle brush instead of a traditional paddle brush. It made an amazing difference for me in eliminating frizz. (I have naturally wavy and frizzy hair already.) I use the Olivia Garden ceramic ion XL pro vent paddle brush. But there are probably other brands that work just as well.

    Just want to put it out there for other viewers, you don't have to have perfectly smooth hair if you don't want. It is still accurate if you want things to be a little more on the fluffy or "poodle" side.

    I love this look. Wonderful work! Even after mostly drying it I'm finding that my hair may be too thick and heavy for foam rollers or rags. I've been told this is the reason it so often hasn't dried completely by morning, which totally ruins my wet sets. I am now trying velcro rollers through the day, so the air can get in and dry it off more than with fabric rollers under a scarf. Is this something you recommend? I'm still trying to work out the best method. My hair is VERY thick.

    This video is great! :) But I wondered - being a waist-length straight hair girl- whether I can do this kind of page boy style? Your hair seems to go into that shape naturally. Perhaps you could do a tutorial for people with long hair some time? :)

    • @mumblesandwool1243
      @mumblesandwool1243 6 років тому +3

      I have just past waist length hair.
      Its virtually impossible to get. A pageboy with our length hair. However, i set my hair in pincurls the day before i need it done (exactly 27 hourd before because thats the earliest my hair is dry) given that much time for my hair to completely dry, my curls will bounch up to just below my shoulders. My hair is also cut in a soft vshape with long layers (almost u but not quite) this gives my hair a similar sillhouette but much longer. By the time my hair falls to waves on the 2nd or 3rd day, its more of a veronical lake look. So your hair will *kinda* be the same shaoe but of course its much longer so it wont look like a pageboy

    • @luminariastormreaver
      @luminariastormreaver 6 років тому +3

      You can also pin the bottom of your hair up into the base of the style by curling it around your hand and pinning the inside of the curls at your nape. That is how they did it back in the old days to get shorter hair. Many women didn't cut their hair because trends could change our it was against their religion.

    • @hremaddox
      @hremaddox 6 років тому

      You have to pin it under in a faux pageboy style or cut it into a more vintage shape.

    • @whossoul
      @whossoul 7 років тому +4

      With that length of hair you aren't going to get the same look. It might hold the curl. But you won't get that classic curls around the face and the smooth around the crown with the row of curls that sit on your shoulder look.

      I have very long hair too, and also love these styles. I do a modification of this style to work with my length. I use the traditional pink foam rollers, but I only roll them up to the base of my neck around the back. That way they are comfortable to sleep with. (I have the same pillow rollers she uses in this video, but I've found they only stay in if you roll them all the way up to your scalp.) I do the deep side part, and on the side with more hair I roll up to my eye level with the hair closest to my face, and then each front section after that is rolled lower (like a ladder) until it reaches the same level as the hair in the back that is rolled up to the base of my neck. (Usually only 3 levels.) The result is a Veronica Lake style vintage look. Hope that helps.

      skollyz Thank you for the tip on how the rollers CherryDollFace used works. I almost bought a set and then rethought about these rollers and decided to save my money since I already have 4 different types of curlers to choose from and I already know what type of curl I get that will have the same results and 100% work for the length of my hair.

    I use sponge rollers and it's usually on dry hair because with a wet set, I get sick (I live in a cold weather country) do you any advice on how to not get frizzy hair?

  • @Spacereform3
    @Spacereform3 5 років тому

    So - I went out and got the pomade like advised but it only ruined my entire style.
    I spent 2 days setting my hair (I have long & thick hair that takes long to dry) as I did a wet set. Then I brushed it out - okay it wasn’t bad, it was nice and smooth, I had nice waves going on in the back - but my hair was very frizzy and it didn’t look quite smooth or sleek.
    So I got a pomade (I bought a few, Murphy’s, DAX, and something by L’Oréal) I used less then a pea sized amount of Dax and tried to work it into my brush out, but it only made my hair sticky - it was sticking to my hands, pulling out of place etc. So I tried to brush it out again but the pomade just made it into a sticky mess, made my hair separate/look greasy & I had to wash out the entire 3 days work of hair styling 🤦🏻‍♀️
    Do you have any tips for next time? Anything I should use instead or do differently?
    Also the bottom layer of hair tends to be SUPER curly and hard to brush out/reach, and make uniform with the rest of the hair/top layers.
    Another thing, my ends feel very crispy after everything.
    And my top bang section that I try to “swoop” or make more voluminous gets quite frizzy also.
    Any tips for these things would be cool!
    Any rollers you would recommend for long and thick hair? Size or type?
    Thanks! 🙏🏼

    One reason you're getting frizz is because you're using the wrong brush. Hairdresser of 50 years here..just retired...we used boar bristle brushes that were alot smaller and the brush was rounder. You're causing too much static with those big paddle brushes. We sprayed something called Vita E or a Lanolin spray on the brush first and start from underneath. You have to brush the crap out of it and you have to use a liquid setting lotion on it to hold and if you don't get the ends wrapped smooth in those curlers you get the dreaded 'fish hooks' on the ends.

      You can also fake pillow rollers! Take the plastic center out of your foam rollers, and pull a fabric strip through the center, like a combo foam roller + rag curls. I tried it this past weekend, and they were ~immensely~ more comfortable to sleep upon than foam rollers with the plastic frame. :)

      i guess thats a no then! they are a type of roller that is made of a woven plastic tube that is curled and you use a hook to pull a strand of damp hair into the tube, sleep overnight and pull out. the ends are silicone to stop them falling out. my 7yr old can apply them to her sisters hair and can remove them from her own hair. the curls last without any styling products for 18hrs or so.

    Hello Darling! What is the hair brush made of? I'm trying to find one which bristles are not from any animal and I haven't succeeded :( I've asked for it here in Spain and I don't even know how those are called; they only offer me with wild boar hair... Is it possible to find one of that kind? No animal hair involved, I mean; and at the same time, good enough to brush through the curls. THANK YOU ♥

      Yuliana León Báez Its a Denman paddle brush. That is what it looks like to me. Plus the same brush Cherry is using for her hair might not work for your hair type, Cherry has thick hair. I learned this when I tried using a paddle brush for my hair type which is thin and the brush was to big and my hair ended up in one lump on the side of my head. For me I learned a wide tooth comb works or a purse size Denman brush works best. Oh and Denman brushes are nylon bristles on a rubber bed and a plastic handle.www.ebay.com/p/?iid=152470647999&lpid=82&&&ul_ref=http%253A%252F%252Frover.ebay.com%252Frover%252F1%252F711-117182-37290-0%252F2%253Fmtid%253D1588%2526kwid%253D1%2526crlp%253D183016357862_324272%2526itemid%253D152470647999%2526targetid%253D286717529645%2526rpc%253D0.10%2526rpc_upld_id%253D122158%2526device%253Dm%2526mpre%253Dhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.ebay.com%25252Fulk%25252Fitm%25252Flike%25252F152470647999%25253Flpid%25253D82%252526chn%25253Dps%2526adtype%253Dpla%2526googleloc%253D1016367%2526poi%253D%2526campaignid%253D764892186%2526adgroupid%253D39783961149%2526rlsatarget%253Dpla-286717529645%2526gclid%253DCK-_nZf53tMCFUS2wAodmjUF1A%2526srcrot%253D711-117182-37290-0%2526rvr_id%253D1212080626568&ul_noapp=true&chn=ps My Denman brush has five rows and is purse size. If you are unable to acquire one of these brushes there are similar ones. There is the Conair Tangle Blaster Paddle Detangling Brush you can get at Walgreens or CVS. And the Goody Brush, Rubber Base that looks just like the purse size Denman brush, you can get this on at CVS.

    I have pretty thin straight hair naturally, but every time I wet set I just get an afro and no amount of brushing or product settles it, just makes it even more huge. I don't know what I'm doing wrong:(

    Hmm, my wet set (or any) curls don't last more than an hour or so, even without the brushing... At least in humid weather, it's all gone when I walk out the door, all pin straight ;) Guess my hair just doesn't hold curl very well.

    They always get straight... Even when I had a wet set 😥

    Will this work if we have thinner hair?

    • @veganvintagegeek935
      @veganvintagegeek935 7 років тому +1

      Caffiend001 Yes these will. Only thing make sure your hair is not to wet. These rollers do not breath well and hold in a lot of water. I have thin hair too. And I know for me damp hair works best and only water as a setting lotion. And mainly on the ends since that is where the curls fall flat.

      They have curlers that are like the old rag curlers you can use or braiding it and pin curling the ends.

    My hair looks right when I do these styles but the curls drop into a vintage wave rather than curl as soon as I start to brush it...there is no curl whatsoever around the head just from the neck/chin down...The vintage wave looks great and everything but Id love to be able to do a more voluminous style. I wish I knew what I was doing wrong.

      Have you tried doing smaller sections for smaller curls and brushing less?

    • @joannajohnson140
      @joannajohnson140 5 років тому

      @@sunriseschild I barely brush at all before it starts to fall. I will try more sections. I have a LOT of hair so it already takes forever but more sections might be the trick.😊 I worry my hair is too long/needs layers to work properly and maybe its the weight of my hair pulling it straight as its approx at my bra band perhaps a little shorter and has a lot of weight to it...but Ill give the smaller sections a go thanks for the advice. 😊

    I know you have straight hair so you may not be able to help me. But I have (really) naturally curly hair. Unfortunately, there are like zero 50's or 60's hair styles for natural extreme curls. Do you have any advice on how to style my hair? @cherrydollface

      Fine and thin with tight curls. It looks thick but that's only because the curls add volume.
