This is an older video, so I doubt you’ll ever get to read this comment, but I’d like to thank you, for keeping history alive. Also for doing a very good job at it, the hair style is very pretty and reminded me a lot of pictures I’ve seen of my great grandma’s, so thank you for that as well.
Marine Diongue ha ha. Mine did not wave 🌊 so I put in a pin curl. And few more around my face and red ribbon 🎀 for YÜLE. It’s my new goal. Resolution to train it! Lol
I think it's awesome how our grandmothers and great-grandmothers did this hairstyle nearly every night/morning using nothing more than foam rollers a little setting lotion and Aqua Net Hairspray!
Thank you so much for giving so many tips, speaking slow enough that I could follow, and giving reasons why you are doing something and not just narrating. You're a sweet sweet lady that is an amazing hairdresser but also wants to share her styling tips with the world and not keep them to herself. I look forward to watching many more of your thorough tutorials in the future. Thanks again and keep up the great work!
I've never been one to fuss over hair and have never really worn make-up. But I just love this vintage look and I want to do it. So this is like valuable research to me. I just can't imagine that the women of the day used to do this every dang day?! This explains the 3 tons of sponge and velcro rollers my Nana had under her bathroom sink. Real vintage rollers that I wish I had kept. >.
Haha I feel that! A lot of women in the day would only curl their hair once a week, style it, and keep it in a bonnet at night, that way they’d only have to touch it up day to day, making the maintenance a lot quicker than most people think!
My grandmother set her curls just like this (minus all the hairspray because she had natural curls) for years, but she had short, curly forehead bangs. That was back in the early 40's, but it's still a beautiful look!
Oh my goodness, the tip about curling them too to tightly is amazing! I always curl them tighter because I thought that would prevent the frizzy ends and tangled curlers! Thank you! I cant wait to try it a bit looser now and see what happens.
i have been constantly coming back to this video so I can learn how to get this right, and I always learn where I went wrong! Very informative and will hopefully help when I start my new hairdressing course in the autumn! who says you can't learn new skills and start a new career at 26! keep up the good work Miss Victory Violet! :)
I literally just put my hair into sponge rollers tonight and was looking through your website while I rolled. Lo-and-behold, your videos popped up and published on the very same day! Wish I had found them before I rolled, I like your setting pattern but could never quite get mine to look the same. Your video and explanations are so clear and easy...definitely following these next time I roll! Lovely job, and I absolutely adore your accent. Really looking forward to your page-boy tutorial.
I have to say this looks fabulous! I have long hair, and I know most of 1940s-50s hairstyles involved short hair, so I don't know how it would turn out for me. But this is a great tutorial, thanks!
I can’t believe you talked through this brush out in real time! An absolutely stunning result and you explained it so clearly. What an incredible talent!
Just did this tutorial for an event and it turned out wonderfully. Both the set and brush out videos were easy to follow. Thanks for being so thorough, I was able to go back and make sure I was doing each step properly. Cheers!
so tempted to cut my hair to around shoulder length to pull off these styles (well attempt to pull them off because I am so uncoordinated..) You are beautiful! xx
I haven't trased my hair in over 35 years. I am trying to use sponge rollers, and getting ideas how to shape the hair. Your hair style is very beautiful, a 10. Very lovely your hair looks. Thank you.
Gorgeous! Love the details on getting the swoop! That's great to know no matter what style bc peeps like a bit of volume up front but the hair to bend at cheekbone level and swoop back before dropping down, and ur technique will b great to get that bend! Ur makeup super compliments this look💕💐
LOVE this vintage look! So beautiful! The only thing I would comment on is to say you need to be sure to smooth the hair on top a little more with your brush, as you can see evidence of it having been teased. Even so, it looks gorgeous! Well done!
You did a beautiful job! I remember my Mom wearing her hair in this style. I like to wear retro hair styles when I am “in the mood.” I know how to do the set because my Mom liked for me to set her hair for the weekends!
Wonderful video! I watched it all the way through. I really appreciate you taking the time to show the work involved, as opposed to "oh, it's quick, easy, anybody can do it" gab. And You look amazing! That color is delicious. BTW, your modeling inspired me to waist train with REAL CORSETS. 7 months now & I'm corset crazy. Corset-Story UK. Thank you!
Where I live it is quite windy and what I do to keep my curls from being blown around is I use a thin hair net that matches my hair color to keep everything together. It works great only problem my hair does end up losing the curl if I do not reset it over night. And the hair net ends up less hidden. And the top of my head looks like I slicked it down into a 1920s-1930s bob. Which was not my intention. And no amount of back combing would bring it back to life. The ends of my hair wound up being frizzy and wavy after trying to back comb.
My go-to method for removing extreme product buildup is to cover my hair in conditioner and leave on for an hour (give or take) before washing off. I mix my favourite conditioner with a little bit of water to make it runnier (not an issue if the one you use is already runny), apply to dry hair so it is completely saturated, then cover with a shower cap. I rinse off after an hour, but I've left it longer without issue. You just don't want it to dry out and crust up, which is what the shower cap is for. I have heavily dyed red hair and use an SLS/paraben/sulphate-free conditioner, and it doesn't strip the colour out of my hair and leaves it clean and soft.
I am new to vintage hairstyles absolutely IN LOVE. Pretty please do a pageboy tutorial soon?? Also, I live in a very humid environment and my curls frizz shortly after leaving the house and my hairspray gets mucky. Any advice to keep my style sleek?
Ella, I have a serious frizz problem on my roots when I back comb, even after brush out it frizzes at some point? any pomade/advices? I loooooove your channel, so happy you can back on the tutorials! x
What I find works well to eliminate the hairspray build-up is a spritz bottle of 90% isopropyl alcohol, 10% rose water. This works on wigs and real hair. The alcohol breaks down the hairspray bonds and revitalizes the chemicals so I recommend working with light sprays and moving quickly because it dries relatively fast. The rose water isn't strictly necessary, but I find it softens the acrid smell of the isopropyl, especially when used on real hair.
Great video thank you!! I'm looking forward to giving this a go. My hair is quite fine, and there's a lot of it. So curls have a habit a falling out pretty quickly.. But I'm hoping with some practice, this method will work.. But if not... I've thought about getting a perm... or a body wave put through.. would you recommend that?
Thank you. I would love some tips on haircuts that work well for vintage styles. Lots of people don't have access to hairstylists who know what to do. What do we tell them? I mostly cut my own hair and I'm not quite sure how to do it best for curls.
Your hair looks ABSOLUTELY beautiful!! This tutorial is so helpful!! Thank you! Where are you from? New Zealand? I love your accent. (I am American. 🙂)
Have you tried a vinegar rinse after you use baking soda? I get bad product build up too and i find baking soda and vinegar once in a while helps keep my hair cleaner
For product buildup I actually use dawn dish soap. I figure if it's safe for animals it's safe for my hair. It is drying though so always follow up with a deep condition
Fab tutorial thank you. Really useful tips. Just wanted to ask if you would protect your hair overnight after your brush out to make it last another day or two, or whether you would restart. Many thanks. :)
I have a very flat hairline, unlike yours which comes to a point at the front. Does the swoop thing still work on other hairlines or does it end up looking strange? Love this hairstyle and will probably try it anyways, thank you. 😊
I dress up vintage and I hope I can do a look like this for dapper day I want to meet you one day . are you going to go to dapper day in Orlando ? I live in Orlando and I wish I would of meet you when you came to Orlando but I love everything vintage you are my vintage inspiration and I wish I can meet you one day 💜💜❤
what do you recommend for hair that is wavy to make this type of hair style ? how long does it take you everyday to do the whole process? so I can know about how much time I need to do this look ❤💜?
Fantastic video. Have learnt a lot. Just one question how do you keep the set for more than one day. Do you sponge roll again as I find my sets just go flat and only last one day. Thanks in advance
Carmen Grima I actually brush everything out gently, back combing included and put the sponge rollers back in dry. You can try sleeping in your brush out but I find things get too squashed for my liking and prefer to just redo it each day x

The mystery of the "forehead wave" is finally elucidated ! Thank you so much, you are so inspiring *__*

26! That's way young 💗💗 Good on you love, I hope it is going well!
@@uschilou Yeah, way young. Rock on mamma
Who taught you? Grandmother? You did a great job, looks just like I remember my Mom from 50’s, only she was brunette. Enjoyed, thanks!
I wish that my great granny was still alive to teach me, sadly my granny never rolled her hair, so there isn’t anyone to teach me in person!
You make me feel so lazy. Lol. I look like a grenuda. You look beautiful.

I actually really liked the way the hair looked after undoing the rolls.

Red hair definitely suits you!! Blonde you look like a totally different person!

Hair goals! Thanks so much for this and the previous tutorial. I now know two mistakes I was making. Thanks!
my favorite set/brush out hands down!! Thank you so much for such a detailed tutorial ❤
Do you still style your hair this way?
I feel like I have never understood hair or hair products before. Everything I knew before was wrong. You do beautiful work!
I’m beyond amazed by how easy you make it look. Its such a fabulous hairstyle and I wish I had the talent to do this. I barely comb my hair as it is
Best Hairtutorials ever. Thank you
So pretty I love it! I just cut my hair short so I’ve been really into 1960s hairstyles and I loved this video!
Gorgeous! Love the details on getting the swoop! That's great to know no matter what style bc peeps like a bit of volume up front but the hair to bend at cheekbone level and swoop back before dropping down, and ur technique will b great to get that bend! Ur makeup super compliments this look💕💐
Thank you for this tutorial. I definitely learned something new. I can't wait to try it out.
Foam rollers are my favorite method of curling.

I love this hairstyle. I just tried it and it came out beautifully! Great instructions!
GORGEOUS! Thank You for all of the helpful tips!
Her videos remind me of the 60’s
Fantastic tutorial. This video is helping to streamline my whole sponge roller routine! Thank you

love this! now to wait until my horribly cut middy grows out to this length again...
Ella, I have a serious frizz problem on my roots when I back comb, even after brush out it frizzes at some point? any pomade/advices? I loooooove your channel, so happy you can back on the tutorials! x
Brilliant thank you!! This will help me a lot especially the swoop!
OMG, that looks so good
Amazing 💖 your techniques have definitely helped (though my fine hair doesn't behave quite so well!) xx
I can't wait to try this! So many great tips! ❤

Thank you!!!
Do you have any guide for your hair cut?
I just found your channel and i love it! i was wondering if you have any tips on doing a vintage brushout on natural curls?
thank you for this video....really helpful.....love all your tips and of course the outcome of it :-)
Your hair looks ABSOLUTELY beautiful!! This tutorial is so helpful!! Thank you! Where are you from? New Zealand? I love your accent. (I am American. 🙂)
Stunning
Have you tried a vinegar rinse after you use baking soda? I get bad product build up too and i find baking soda and vinegar once in a while helps keep my hair cleaner
mutanicdecreeper yes I have, I've tried many things 😅 it's no where near strong enough for the build up I'm talking about 😜
Try washing your hair with washing up liquid before shampooing and conditioning! :) x
Mrs. Deadly Nightshade baking soda to cut product build up is an old school hairstylist trick. I never used vinger as it can be very drying.
Painted Faces by Fairy G vinegar actually balances out the pH of your hair after using baking soda and makes the hair shiny and smooth
@@fairygrammy Thanks for that! I read baking soda & vinegar, and thought "on my HAIR?! Christ, I use that to unclog the toilet!" 😆😆😆
love it! I'm definitely going to use a lot of your advice next time I do a set and brushout. thank you so much!
Wow it look cute but I do need some expert help on doing it right and also I would to see a pageboy hair tut :D
I love your videos. Could you do a lipstick tutorial?
I'm the fiiiiirts! you inspire me!
I love this. Thank you. ❤
SO GORGEOUS!! :)
Yes, page boy please. I just can't seem to master that hairstyle.
This is so pretty! 😍 Have you got any tips on vintage hairstyles for longer hair? I'd love to see a video on it Xx
Ethne Clark no I don't sorry, I haven't had long hair in a long time!
For product buildup I actually use dawn dish soap. I figure if it's safe for animals it's safe for my hair. It is drying though so always follow up with a deep condition
Wow I remember those hairstyles LOL
This has helped me so much!!🤗
Brilliant! I just need a serum!
gorgeous
Fab tutorial thank you. Really useful tips. Just wanted to ask if you would protect your hair overnight after your brush out to make it last another day or two, or whether you would restart. Many thanks. :)
I usually brush it out completely, re roll with sponge rollers dry, not adding any extra product and wrap with a scarf of Silke London turban x
Gorgeous
Beautiful
That looks so fun and beautiful but I'm just a little scared that it won't look good on me
Do you have a tutorial on how to do your lipstick and shaping of it
What an awesome video! You are gorgeous!
Use a clarifying shampoo, once or twice a week to get the build up out. Baking soda will dry and damage more.
Back combing makes me cringe. I can't do that part
I have a very flat hairline, unlike yours which comes to a point at the front. Does the swoop thing still work on other hairlines or does it end up looking strange?
Love this hairstyle and will probably try it anyways, thank you. 😊
Yes of course - for most hairstyles, having a widows peak like mine hinders the ability over a more standard hairline
Important question! :) Do you roll your hair back again when you go to sleep?
Can you brush this out into more of an "S" wave shape?
I dress up vintage and I hope I can do a look like this for dapper day I want to meet you one day . are you going to go to dapper day in Orlando ? I live in Orlando and I wish I would of meet you when you came to Orlando but I love everything vintage you are my vintage inspiration and I wish I can meet you one day 💜💜❤
Normari Deleon no sorry that's a bit far for me but I would love to one day! I'm going to Dapper Day in Paris this year :-)
Ok hope one day I can meet you maybe at a dapper day 🖤
What product do you use on your brows! It's so hard to find a color suitable for redheads.
Coffee & the Classroom Auburn eyebrow pomade by Anastasia beverleyhills is great for red heads
@@hparrishlmt i use the auburn Anastasia also, I love it
what do you recommend for hair that is wavy to make this type of hair style ? how long does it take you everyday to do the whole process? so I can know about how much time I need to do this look ❤💜?
My set takes me probably 20 mins and brushout between 15- 30 mins depending on what I'm doing and how well my hair is behaving
Thank you 🖤

Was there hairspray back then? What did they use instead?
16:55 question...what do you mean by vintage style haircut?
