    Honestly that’s the magic of steam. With Epic Games always spending big money to grab as many big triple a games on their platforms, steam has always been a platform about indie games focused or something so stupid that the internet started playing. Something fortnite money cannot buy.

    • @nocturne6320
      @nocturne6320 2 місяці тому +41

      The magic of Steam is that they offer their peer2peer service (afaik for free), afaik Epic does not have such a service, yet it makes it trivial and dirt cheap for developers to create multiplayer games. Both Lethal Company and Content Warning basically make the players host the game, making it so that the devs don't have to spend thousands running servers. It also makes modding very easy to pull off with no server to get in the way and mods are another thing that contributes to how long a game can stay relevant.
      And another is the fact that there are just too many launchers, since I have most of my games through Steam, I often forget I even have Epic Launcher even installed

      Edit: Turns out they are using Photon Unity Networking for Unity Multiplayer Games which is costing them money. That being said I think most companies would pay whatever amount on hosting they are in advertisement costs for the game that the devs don't even have to do without hesitation. I imagine a ton of people are buying it now that it is not free to play with their friends who may have even gotten it free.

      It's an missunderstanding from a guy making one of the videos afaik.
      Pretty sure steamworks just makes it free to get the steam gamer tags, but what was also reffered to in that video was actually a free to use API to implement server browser and have this as a service on steam servers for free, a free servers list not free servers.
      You still have to pay for servers and nothing on steam's steamworks page indicates that you get access to an scalable compute platform etc.
      And no, you don't pay for servers on a specific hosting platform for xbox, you pay for amount of cpu time that was used to handle your API requests, pretty sure it's just so you can get billed for the minimum compute time(1 sec) every hour/day.

Clustertruck was a bit viral for its unique gameplay at the time, TABS started as a goofy strategy game and now its a mix of serious and funny, TABG was popular for a bit too due to the mix of serious and funny too, Stick Fight is still being played but not much compared to Round due to it having less replayability. People who didn't buy it when it was free are simply bloating their budget without them needing to lift a finger. People who played F2P will gather those who didn't get it at the time of Free to Play. Guess what? This is genius marketing without marketing at all. But I think that's the point of the game, "going viral".
      And I actually like this more than Lethal Company because it has a more defined identity.
      I still don't know if Lethal Company wanted to be goofy or Scary and I'm sad that Phasmophobia didn't go the direction wanted, that game had the same problem, trying to juggle between a immersive horror game, a survival management, a competitive puzzle game and a funny multiplayer game.
      I personally am not the biggest fan of playing games to make pranks or be goofy with friends, but it's fun to watch others, and Content Warning it's funnier and has a better direction.

    The thing I love about this game is that when lethal company came out it invented a new way of gaming a way that makes the game so fun and now more games are using that way of letting the players make the game what it is instead of there being things you have to do. I hope a lot of games start implementing this.

    As someone who plays tabs and follow landfall I think there is a hidden 5th reason, good will, as as from what I seen when they release stuff it good and polished so people like me see it and give them more good will, so when they released the game, we were the first to visit and show others the game, asked UA-camrs to play it, ect, I think this might also show the big corporations like EA or Activision that good will is still a very important thing, I just hope content warning can benign the era of actually caring for games that you make back.

    mark my words : spooktube will die rather quickly. It relies on the player going into dangerous situations to get footage. Basically get close to big scary monsters, and that's the whole point. Lethal company relies on bringing back scrap as fast as possible to meet quota, but the area is dangerous, while also being a roguelike randomly generated dungeon.
    The problem is that after 10 or 15 hours of gameplay, monsters start losing their "spookiness", you become used to them, and then you tryhard the game, or just focus on your friends... Except if the whole point is going into scary situations, and you stop being scared, then people get bored, your friends aren't having fun, and the whole game itself stops being fun.
    Lethal company can be played like a try-hard, with speedruns and quota chasing, with monsters being PVE enemies instead even when they are not scary, basically you can still have fun trough killing them as fast as possible.
    Lethal company will stay attractive while content warning will die in a month or so
