Me too mate I saw them twice Sheffield 91 and this concert but Woburn Abbey 92, absolutely blown away still to this day, I've managed to see knopfler a further 11 times since 👌🏼
There's nothing more satisfying than watching a drummer and a percussionist working together. When you commented on how they make it look easy it immediately brought to mind their song "Money for nothing" which is all about that very subject.
Well, to be totally accurate, MFN is about the labour intensive work of a couple of electrical goods movers, comparing themselves to the lifestyles and the relative ease and scale in which a music star earns his money.
I love watching you guys, especially when you react to Dire Straits my favourite band of all time! You give me a big smile and I love your comparisons..." like a popcorn machine" 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks, Greetings Stefan
This was recorded at Feyenoord stadium in Rotterdam, and while with most bands this would be the encore to the concert, Dire Straits started their concert with this. Phil Palmer who played rythm guitar on these concerts once said when he played with Eric Clapton they rehearsed for one or 2 weeks before a tour , with Mark Knopfler they rehearsed for 3 months
It is amazing to see the journey of two people getting to know more and more songs of Dire Straits and MK and always being left more amazed than last time. It is like the saying: It is a gift that keeps on giving. I will watch and rewatch those videos (and probably the reactions) and there will not be any time wasted ever.
Thanks for another Dire Straits reaction. It’s so fascinating witnessing you discover the genius of this band and of his leader, singer, songwriter and guitarist! Don’t miss the music video which is cool and almost won an mtv video award back in 1991! Just for you to know, the two last tours (Brothers In Arms and On Every Street) consisted of 250 shows each ;-) They used to do huge tours, because Mark Knopfler reluctantly played stadium and prefered playing multiple nights in arenas to make the experience better for the audience (and for him too I assume) They played 13 times straight at the Wembley arena + did a few Hammersmith Odeon in London back in 1985, where they could have played 4 or 5 (or even more) Wembley Stadiums at the time. Same everywhere. In Paris in 1991/1992, they played 10 times at the Bercy Arena where they could have played multiple times at the Parc des Princes stadium or at the Longchamp Hippodrome. They did 20 or more shows in a row at the Entertainment Center in Sydney too back in 1986… The list goes on.
Your reactions every time to this incredible band are equally on another level. You guys rock. You can see why Mark is so adored. Incredible in every way. He's the full article. A national treasure. Keep up the great work.
Mark has the wonderful boyish charm & the killer instincts of Billy the kid but in order to carry that off just think of the hour's of blood sweat & tears behind the performances!!
Mark once commented that the idea for the song came about when he left his phone off the hook whilst his brother in law was repeatedly trying to contact him. When he finally got through, he commented that getting hold of him was harder than getting hold of Elvis. And so another showstopper was born…….
So much fun! I've never heard this before. Love your reaction! You two are so cute today. I found that my toes were tapping during this one. Again, really fun!! Love you guys! Have a great day and God Bless!🐢
Hey all....I never saw this live version and I thank you for that. It is amazing how close this is to the studio version, but I have to say....even BETTER here. Peace
I had a feeling you guys would react to this one soon. I was actually going to make the recommendation myself. It's another Dire Straits classic, and for me, this performance just demonstrates that Mark can play all the fast technical licks when he really wants to. He just chooses not to most of the time, and plays what's right for the song. He always seems to go unmentioned when there are polls and articles discussing greatest guitarists. For me, he's one of the greatest. Thanks for another amazing reaction guys!
Don't worry, I knew EXACTLY what you meant when you were talking about the "Sing-off/Dance-off/Instrument-off" part and I completely agree! You still sounded perfectly intelligent. 😅
The lad in the blue blazer is co-founder of dIRE sTRAITS - John Illsley. Check out his book "My Life with Dire Straits" - a fascinating and funny read on how it all started, fun and sadness, ups and downs of one of the greatest rock'n'roll acts on the Planet. 🙂
Hi guys thanks for your lovely reaction. Marks actually left handed playing right handed guitar so he gets so much strength and control on the neck of guitar and often bends 3 strings at once to get a unique sound. He has a new album out this year. Cheers All the best 🎸🎸🎸🙏
I was visiting my little brother a few days ago and reminiscing about our teenage years and beyond. We agreed that we were blessed to grow up with bands like E.L.O., Supertramp, Fleetwood Mac, Queen and of course Dire Straits. Best time of our lives.
Fun fact: After this tour Mark quit the band, they split and Dire Straits was no more. In several interviews Mark stated that he hated how big they became and all the huge touring and stadiims that came with it. Sad but true. He went on solo ever since…
Partly true as he didn't quit. That was his band so he decided as he's lately mentioned to put it to bed. He wanted to bring it all to a reasonable scale
Fair enough. I think we all get the point. That these concerts of this tour are the last the world has ever seen of Dire Straits. But, I aknowledge that in everything in the net, there has to be this one smartass kid.@@ekstradycja
This version of Calling Elvis was in the Netherlands, De Kuip football stadium in Rotterdam. I'm sitting here in the audience with my wife. The tour was called On the night, it is and remains the best concert I have ever seen. Dire Straits was a great band, too bad they will never get back together.
Dominiqua your face says it all right the way through this, you are smiling from start to finish, and that is what Mark Knopfler does, a master of his craft
Lovely reaction ❤ Next could be You and your friend (same concert). And please 🙏 dive in to Marillion! Another great band with also an awesome 🎸player. Check out the love song Neverland (live '09)❤🧚♀️ ... You provide the soul, the spark that drives me on Makes me something more than flesh and bone At times like these Any fool can see Any fool can see Your love inside me...
I think peeling carrots requires much more talent than just picking away at a guitar, writing catchy songs and being at the top of your game for over 60 years. (Only joking). Mark once said "I wish I had learnt to play the Guitar properly. All I am is a Geordie Strummer" Like yes!
In case you didn't know, Marjk Knopfler is a left-hander playing righty! A very special guitar player all around. Oh yes ... I saw Dire Straits do this live, two nights in 1992!
The song is about how difficult it was for him to contact his sister, Ruth. It would be like trying to get Elvis on the phone. This is what he once said.
You 2 are so fun and great and want to honor here your pilling carot ability. More seriously as you said the way Mark is playing is not so easy and comes a long way back to the early 1920 in the US Folk history, known as Travis picking technic where the thumb of his right hand is playing the bass line while the other fingers of that same hand plays the melody. Imagine the complexity! That technic is primary used in US Folk music (his primary influence like Chet Atkins) but the genius of Mark has been to applied it to Electric guitar. This is where his unique tone his coming from. I was I guess a bit long, but continue your great reacts, You are so fresh! Maybe pilling could apply to guitar, I'll investigate that😅. Cheers from France
guys, mark knopfler said in one interviwe that he came up with this song after trying to call his brother in law many times. That he was alwyas unavailable. ´Son mark says to him, man is easier to talk with elvis than with you... or something like that.
Phil Palmer was the 2nd. guitarist on stage. If anything went wrong with Mark then Phil would step in and finish the solo note for note. He did exactly that for Eric Clapton live. Eric broke a string and simply said take it Phil. Phil took it. Look him up, Amazing. Also, I think that is a young and "thinner " Danny Cummings on drums/percussion who later went on to ne Mark's GOTO drummer on his solo tours.

First of all, thankyou for another passionate reaction to Dire straits. This was the opening song for all the On every street world tour, from 1991 to end of 1992, with over 300 concerts all over the world. In this tour (last dance for Dire Straits) the gutarism ok MK was "outrageous"... it's like he's saying with guitarism this concept: "I'm the best guitarist of all times, let me show you... " i know you've reacted yet to the song Sultans of Swing... but only for your pleasure i suggest to see this performance from 1992 tour in Basel. Absolutely outrageus...😂 ... ua-cam.com/video/RFclpoxI_-M/v-deo.htmlsi=rhpAbR-DxnJjF9KO

When a band opens a concert like that you know your in for a hell of a night out
Do you know what the cost was to see this in 1992, decent tickets? $32 ...

Nonsense he said he was trying to phone his friend and couldn't get through so get your facts right.

The "guy in the blue jacket" Is a bass player who was only original member of Dire Straits From the begining!!!!....o yeah, his name Is John Islley!!!

The slide guitar was reminding me of Pat Metheny, pure beauty 😇
when I listen to this song, for a few seconds my thoughts go to the great drummer Jeff Porcaro r.i.p. who played the original song.
