That album, On Every Street, was another incarnation. Mark started letting his guitar sing again. I feel there was a period where he truncated the notes and didn't let them breathe. This was a departure. You should check out, "The Planet of New Orleans". It's a Sci-Fi journey!
Coolest voice in rock and roll. Not necessarily the greatest, but definitely the coolest. And the guitar, what can you say? He's the whole package, and the rest of the band ain't so bad either. Saw them at an outdoor arena just outside Chicago in the mid-eighties and man oh man. I remember reading in the paper the next day that they broke the all time to attendance record for the venue that night. All their classic songs are extended live way beyond their studio versions. And the arrangements and instrumentation is solid. Each one a journey. You've got to experience the live version of "Sultans of Swing" from the "Alchemy" concert. It is life changing!! Would also highly recommend the studio version of "Skate Away". 🎸 👍
It seems some commentators aren’t aware that Mark Knopfler was the sole songwriter/lyricist arranger on all DS 6 x albums, and also for the 10 great Solo Albums he made with his 96ers bandmates. He has also composed the music for 9 x movie soundtracks, never a bad piece of music from this gorgeous magical musician. Not forgetting all the countless collaborations with his musical peers. A humble creative genius still writing songs and making studio recordings.at 75. He is all about the songs, and has never courted fame, but loves the success 😂 He is beloved by loyal fans all over there world and lauded by his guitarist peers. I❤MK
You'll get many recommendations for Dire Straits songs to check out, but I'll throw in You And Your Friend from this same On The Night concert, with the magical sound from Mark Knopfler's guitar soaring into the evening sky and the exchanges with Paul Franklin's pedal steel.
In 2124 there will be people listen to Dire Straits and loving them as much as we do listen them nowadays... and then in 2224 and on! Quality is ethernal.
Mark said in an interview that they were doing 300 concerts a year and everyone was physically and mentally exhausted. Many had families at this point and it was difficult. He felt that the size of every thing was out of control and after this series of concerts, he decided to disband them. One band that didnt get into drugs, etc. and left everyone wanting more.
This is one of my favorite bands. Mark Knopfler has a very unique style of singing and guitar picking, apart from his natural light touch, great feel and wonderful vibrato, the thing that makes his playing so distinctive is his individual fingerstyle approach which he apparently developed quite naturally to him, but I've read is quite difficult to copy or imitate. And his beautifully smooth baritone style(IMO) is very pleasing to the ear. Here's another live performance, if interested "Dire Straits - Telegraph Road Live -aLCHEMY Tour 1983" be prepared to hear some beautiful storytelling 🤗🎶🎸💜
Wow, good choice! I've seen some amazing videos of that band such as "Sultans of Swing" and "Telegraph Road" (Alchemy Live). But this one sizzles!!!🔥🔥🔥 Thanks for a great reaction! 🐝
Hey, thanks for reacting to this song. Really enjoying your channel. If you like to react to DS, live performances are the best like Sultans Of Swing Live Sydney Final Concert 1986, Heavy Fuel, Brothers In Arms and Private Investigations from DS Live On The Night 1993. Cheers from Oz All the best 👍🎸🎸🎸
I recommend listening to the Notting hill billies playing live a song called I think I love you too much. It was a side project for mark. It’s a good song and marks guitar sounds fab in it.
chicken pickin....a style of playing guitar , without a pick, fingers only. A tradition started by chet Skins, carried on by artists such as Vince Gill, Albert Lee, Jerry Reed, Brad Paisley and most recently, Derek Trucks of Tedesschi Trucks Band, all though Derek adds glass slide to it. Chicken Pickin is an art.
The Alchemy tour is pretty much recognised as the best Dire Straits live stuff (Private Investigations is well worth a watch) but it’s nice to see a live version of a song off the “on every street” album being reacted to. Also check out Brothers in Arms live at the Nelson Mandela tribute concert at Wembley. Good reaction that…..I enjoyed it
To me, the best thing about Mark is that although he is a fantastic guitarist, he writes and arranges music that allows all band members to shine.
At the end of the song he plays a lick on the guitar that it clearly sounds like "thank you, thank you.".
Now thats the way to start a show! Saw them 3 times on the On Every Street tour. Still remember it like it was yesterday!
Great reaction! Love this song and this performance...all of 'On The Night' is great.

Sooo happy you reacted to this song and particularly this performance. I hope it motivates more reactors to do the same.

The level of mastery is insane !
I was there, in Rotterdam. Very impressive!

And that was the opening track of that concert. Gr8 reaction brother! 🙌🏻
Listen to the Walk of life from the same concert. It's my favorite. Great steel guitar playing there.

Hi, watch the official video. Great! And the studio version of the song is cool too.

Rediscovering Dire Straits.
You need a very professional and dedicated drummer to carry off music like this. Straits always had king drummers.
this concert is best heard on volume 8 on the sterio
It was best seeing it for REAL ... two nights in a row!
@@RideAcrossTheRiver Wow which performance did you go to and when?
@@enjoyyoursleep1 Toronto, March 1992, both nights. Saw them do "Fade to Black" live.
@@RideAcrossTheRiver I discovered Dire Strats as a kid, and growing up, I bought all their CDs.
