2018 Porsche 991.2 Turbo S - One Take

Поділитися
Вставка
  • Опубліковано 9 лис 2017
  • The Porsche 991.2 Turbo S may be the world's most well rounded car. It squeezes 580 horsepower out of its twin-turbo six, but more importantly, has a torque curve flatter than a drill sergeant's haircut, which means power that's usable, all the time. It's comfortable, practical, incomprehensibly fast, and asks virtually nothing in return from its driver.
Porsche Cars, North America provided the vehicle, insurance, and a tank of fuel for this review.

Sean W I agree. The amount of cars this guy reviews is insane. If there is a car chances are he has driven it. Granted Doug DeMuro goes more in depth, but they are the only 2 who don’t vlog and make it all about the car!!

This car is sublime!!! I got it two weeks ago! I tried R8, Huracan, F-type SVR, Aston Vantage, 600 LT, 488, but the Turbo S, oh meeeeen!!!

The Turbo S has always been my favorite Porsche. When I was a kid, I read a few car magazines and the S just took my breath away with how it looked. That was the beginning of my love of cars. Thanks, Porsche!!!

The corner speed seemed faster with that race modified Crown Vic w/ the racing tires. Put slick racing tires on this and make a vid, the cornering speed would be insane!!

I love my 991.2TTS. Best all-around car I've ever owned. The low-key aspect is also a major plus. I've owned enough exotics over the years to appreciate enjoying such a feat of engineering without getting hounded by people asking "how much was it?" "what do you do for a living?" "give me a ride!" "trade you!", etc.

Well, so far I have had 3 different cops ask me how much it was, and how fast I have gone in it :) But yes, the advantage is it only pull interest from people that know cars, and not just 12y old boys and people thinking red cars are fast.
I would also say the amount of stuff you can have in it make it a car you can go on the road for weeks without leaving stuff at home (tent, sleeping bag, camera, ...). And each time you floor it in 1/2 you just have to giggle :)

I recently bought a 2017 911 991.2 Turbo S Cabriolet (White w/bordeaux red soft top) and love to watch videos expounding on it's virtues...but yours is my favorite and I watch it often. It does, by far, the best job of helping people feel what it's like to really drive one. This car is other-wordly and does everything incredibly well. Best, most capable GT/Sports car on the market.

Before people start complaining about the price, the Turbo S comes standard with all the performance enhancing goodies for the Turbo model, including the stupidly expensive carbon ceramic brakes. So from a mechanical point of view, you're not missing out even if you buy a "base" Turbo S.
These cars do NOT offer a sports exhaust at all, and come standard with PDCC.

    • @teamredgutz399
      @teamredgutz399 6 років тому +4

The turbo S is expensive but worth every penny. And drives so much better then it’s even more expensive exotic competition. It is so well-built and engineered.

High praise indeed from the man who once said he thought turbo charging the 911 would ruin it. Matt is absolutely correct though, it is probably the most capable sports/GT car you can buy. I would not hesitate to buy one a main car to drive all over europe, possibly a Cayenne Turbo if i needed more space, but Porsche have just about got every single angle covered in their range. All made capable by a sports car manufacturer starting to make 4x4 20 or so years ago. Smart move Porsche.

Fantastic car. I've driven a 2003 Turbo X50 AWD up in these same mountains a couple of times, on two long multi-hour drives. Nearly as expensive as the 2018 model. First car I've ever driven that I actually got carsick behind the wheel! I enjoy your casual, chatty banter -- and the fact that you'd sometimes take one or both hands off the wheel to make a point! Outstanding!! Thanks for a great view.

I go driving on this same road, and it is just as fun as Matt makes it look. It tickles me to see him drive some cars that look like mine. My 991.2 TS cab is the same Miami Blue as this one, and my F90 M5 (non-comp) is the same Marina Bay blue Matt drove on this same road in another vid. I also take my older '14 12C spider or even older 997.1 turbo cab on this road. Been driving a variety of sports cars/sedans there for 2 decades. Traffic has gotten a bit crowded in the last few yrs. YT vids have introduced this fun road to more folks, so I see interesting cars there on pretty much every drive. Mostly smooth roads, albeit with the occasional pothole and fist-sized rock that you need to watch out for. I have been expecting to see Matt at the side of the road filming his show one of these days. I drive there at dusk, so if these shows are filmed in the early morning I got some time to wait before I see Matt in some car blow past me.

Although the turbo S has been my dream car for decades, I'd say the GTS is probably the better choice for most of the non-professional enthusiast drivers out there. Sadly I've never driven a turbo S, but I've driven several 500hp+ sports cars and I was only able to push them to 7/10 at best...and I consider myself a pretty good driver. My hp sweet spot is definitely in the 400-450 range, making the GTS perfect for me. That said, if money was no object, I'd probably still buy the turbo S just because I've always dreamed of owning one.

This is odd, 991 Turbo S comes default with 18-way sport seat. 2 buttons are gone when they moved sport/sport+ to the steering wheel, and there is no exhaust flap options for the Turbo.
4-way manual sport seats are free option (simpler / less weight).
Front Axle lift is not really needed on the Turbo due to the adaptive front spoiler. Very few things it can't get over.

You mentioned you can drive it hard all day, but a few people this a party due to the fact the dutch police started to use the 911 for their highway patrol years ago. They drove it 120+ 24/7 and Porsche engineers actually came over to inspect and improve it, the 911 retired as patrol vehicle but Porsche gained tons of knowledge about it. And here is you proof of that.

There's nothing you cannot do with this; beat up most, if not all idiots on a daily basis, chicks will dive into front seat, worthy of front valet spot with cars 2,3x's it's price, can drive in pair of jeans and t-shirt (leave the suite and tie, Wall Street type get-up at home), fowl weather won't force you to garage. I'd prefer a silver/grey finish myself. The only car I'd trade up my m3 for... 👌🏼

I have a 2017. I agree with most of what Matt said. If I could post my comments, I'd do it... I posted them on reddit. There's a few minor inaccuracies and a few minor comments in general. Otherwise, pretty great review of how these cars are to drive on the street.

I drove a Carrera S on Saturday and it was everything a Tesla is not. It was well made, looked amazing, sounded amazing and was fantastic to drive. When and if we have to buy electric in the future it will be a Porsche. The best sports cars in the world in my opinion. Yes I have driven a Tesla 100D so I can have an opinion.

I test drove one, actually same color (checked lic. plate, not the same), during Monterey Car Week, and it's an incredible car. When it's time to pull the trigger, I think I'll go with the McLaren 570S though...

Porsche keeps doing weird things with the engine bay. Call me crazy, but I think that Porsche makes some of the prettiest engines available.

There is no option for sport exhaust in turbo s. Blank spot because Porsche remove the sport buttons to the steering wheel. Only option to add there- nose lift. The 18 way seats are standard on turbo s, so I don’t know who and why selected the manual seats.

Not that I'm in the market, but I still have Matt's old mentality. If I could get a McLaren 570 or Lamborghini Huracan for around the same price it would be really hard for me to choose this over those more exotic looking cars. Great review though, and I bet it drives better than the flashy cars I would choose!

Depends on how you want to drive. The TTS will do snow, rain, trips to the coast (I just did a 5-day trip), daily driving, track days... it's the most versatile supercar you can envision. Your spouse will love it. Your neighbours won't hate it. Something like a McLaren ... well, you'll need another vehicle for sure... it'd have to be a second or maybe third vehicle.

Why don't you have telemetry on your videos? I'd love to see speed/rpm/g's on the screen while you make these runs.

Probably doesn't want to advertise on YT just how often and by how much he's exceeding the legal speed limit? Porsche claims 0-100km/h (62mph) in 2.9 seconds but I've seen any number of tests showing genuine 2.6 seconds. He launches and then presumably has foot to the floor for a total of about 8 seconds, so that ought to have had him at 200km/h (124mph) easily. Probably not something to show when on a public road, lol.
You can go to this video ( ua-cam.com/video/z4YY0z64HUs/v-deo.html ) and see the full instrumentation. The example of launch seems to be ~2.8s 0-100 (62).
That's a great channel with all sorts of crazy cars where they do test drives and reviews. They live near an Autobahn section with the famous NO SPEED LIMIT (if you crash at speed you're presumed to be guilty, however, unless you have some compelling evidence otherwise). They have a video of a tuned turbo S (by PP Performance) with 750HP (so 170 more than as built) and it's truly insane; can't imagine there are many cars that are street legal that could get near it, let alone keep up. Check it out, I think you'll love it. Cheers

Personally, I like manual seats. They take much less time to adjust. There are only 2 issues between it and the powered versions. First is sliding forward or back while driving. Second are the options like lumbar support and heated/cooled seats.

Apparently the wing and jet engines are invisible. Wow. That color looks especially good on that model in that dry landscape. I’d love to test drive the four wheel steering. That launch control is insane I mean how is it the tires can even grab traction?Well anyway options hardly seem relevant. That said a built in radar deflector/detector really needs to be standard across the lineup. I forgot to mention it would really compliment my collection.
