We'll Meet Again Sweetheart - Zoe & Cloyd

Zoe & Cloyd [Natalya Zoe Weinstein on fiddle and John Cloyd Miller on guitar with Kevin Kehrberg on bass and Ben Krakauer on banjo] perform a classic bluegrass number "We'll Meet Again Sweetheart" in from their upcoming Songs of Our Grandfathers album.

John's grandfather, Jim Shumate, was the fiddle player in Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys in 1945. When Stringbean Akeman, who was playing clawhammer banjo in the band at the time, turned in his notice, Bill asked Jim if he knew any banjo players. Jim said, "I know one of the best in country, but he doesn't play anything like String." Bill asked who it was and Jim said Earl Scruggs. Jim arranged an audition and Earl was hired. Lester Flatt was also in Bill's band at the time and he told Bill after hearing Earl, "hire him whatever it costs." Later after Lester and Earl started their own band, The Foggy Mountain Boys, Jim was their first fiddle player. He recorded on their historic first Mercury session in 1948 and "We'll Meet Again Sweetheart" was one of the songs they cut. We're honored to be the caretakers of Jim's fiddle that he used on these early recordings and throughout most of his career. Natalya is playing this fiddle in the video. It was given to Jim by his older brother, Mack when Jim was a teenager.
