I don't know about you guys, but Josh Graves dobro part in this song! Is something oh so soo beautiful... It's like his instrument is talking to me. That's how beautiful it is! Pure emotion!
this is not a break up song Berke Kaya (it is a loved one leaving for war ) My daddy always told us it was for someone that went to heaven too that we would meet again
Take note you amateurs that claim you are professionals. This is how it's done!! It's not blazing fast or cram as many notes as you can into it. It's not everyone trying to showboat for attention. It's a TEAM effort. It's a finely tuned machine that requires each part to do it's job in order to help all the other parts do their jobs, thus creating a great final product. Nothing more, nothing less.
Yep Earl is the godfather of the 5 string. It seems like today that everyone learned ant what he invented and came up with natural. Most of what's done today is copied from him.
@@weldonpinder7295 Your completely right except that Earl didn't invent it. He took pieces of the techniques used by Snuffy Jenkins, Don Reno & a few others & blended them together. He did however, perfect it, put his own brand on it & then, make it world famous. The banjo would have likely vanished into obscurity if not for the talent & notoriety of Mr. Scruggs!!!!!!!
@@redlinemando I forget who it was who said this, but it was something along the lines of "3-finger banjo has been around since at least the 1840s, but if it wasn't for Earl Scruggs, we wouldn't be worried about who invented it."
Yea every note means something & makes sense. He's not just hitting melody notes then rolls to get to the next one.Even the roll means something ,if you listen enough. Took me many yrs and counting to realize this.
This is the kind of tune that made the Foggy mt boys world famous eat gat to take a break on their instruments and help out with the singing of the melody. Great performance!
I saw them in charleston w va early sixties and hylo brown was with them, before marty stuart, hylo got his name because he could sing high or low ❤❤❤❤
I feel Hilo added a lot of feeling to their harmony. I had the honor of playing a few show dates with him back in the late 50's when he would travel north to shows. Played the WWVA Jamboree twice, what a thrill for a 20yr old. He was very under rated for his talent. Even Tony Rice recognized this, recording "Thunder Clouds of love". My favorite of Hilo's.
You bet! There is a whole lineage of guitar players who used this technique that Lester learned from. Charlie Monroe and Clyde Moody being two of the main ones. Lester worked for Charlie, playing mandolin and got to see how it’s done up close. Then, Lester went to work with Bill Monroe, Charlie‘s brother, replacing Clyde Moody Who also played with a thumb pic and finger pic.
Yes. The old mercury recording was closer to the melody. It was also kicked off by the fiddle instead of the banjo. I bet they never put thinking about you and someday we’ll meet again sweetheart next to each other on the set list.

Earl is the master.

Legends! They all have their hats tilted the same way. Must have been part of the dress code.

Just think of this on today’s equipment. This is awesome. Thanks for sharing!
Hard work dedication to your craft
Respect with your musical mates.
Never overshadowing one another.
Equals each and everyone of them.
Add to this wonderful explanation years of many shows to polish this art.
Notice how Hylo sings out one side of his mouth and Lester sings out the other side - With the mic in the middle it works perfectly! (HA!)

👍👍 I love it so great 👍👍
Has anyone like me noticed the picking of Lester flat with that thumb pick
Gary Teague yes, and a finger pick on his index finger. Lester was the Man!
Not really. I look closer next time. (Carter Stanley as well)
Danny Paisley picks that way today & can GET IT DONE!!!!!!! Check him out as well.

His style has fascinated me for most of my 75 years!
Earl made that banjo sound like an angel harp
❤❤🌲🌲
The intro to this sounds a lot like "Thinking About You".

The Scruggs 3 Finger Style is so much cleaner clearer and brighter than the Claw Hammer style
Yes BUT it (Clawhammer) had its day. Still has it's place.
Earl Scruggs and Danny Roberts: Half man, half computer.
Good way to describe them. Soooo precise and SOLID, ever note.
I think hylo brown, singing tenor ❤❤❤
You’d be correct
He added so much to that style harmony, read grassy with that southern accent.
