My uncle ran out into the street and ran until he found an adult. He told the man his mother was hurt and needed help, but the man was bothered by a kid talking to him and said, “well, is there blood everywhere?” My uncle didn’t expect that and answered as honestly as possible - his mom’s dress was completely soaked in blood and it was all over the floor, but it wasn’t on the walls and ceiling. So he answered, “uh… not everywhere.” So the man just shooed him away. My uncle ran back to his house, not knowing what else to do. What happened in the end? A registered nurse was driving home from her shift and somehow felt compelled to stop her car and walk into the house; found my great aunt; and took her to the hospital and saved her life. My uncle won the lottery, with a group of his office workers. He never missed a day of work after this, he helped out friends and family, but invested well. This was 40 years ago, and his generosity to me, and to my mother, changed our lives. He still has a great life. His lottery story is the only one I have ever heard of that ended well. He did't let it go to his head, he continued life just as he normally did, before his win.

He has a “girlfriend” (more like two old people who live together because they’re lonely.) Everyone tried telling my FIL to put the winnings in my husbands name so he could at least continue to collect his government assistance because we all knew he was gonna blow through this money. Unfortunately, the Gf convinced him my husband would run off with the money which is so funny when you consider how fugal my husband is lol Important note: my FIL is Vietnamese and doesn’t speak much English. He’s a nice guy but soft spoken and doesn’t trust non-Vietnamese people. This led to him getting scammed by people who speak his language knowing he couldn’t go anywhere else. The last “investment” was sending 150k to his girlfriend’s son in Vietnam to build a hotel under the impression he would get earnings and be allowed to live there. Obviously the hotel was never built and the dude blew through the 150k (which is worth a LOT of money in Vietnam) and then his wife left him taking half of what was left. To this day, my husband and I wish he had listened to us and not his girlfriend.

I’m telling y’all, police never take 911 calls seriously if it’s a kid on the phone. When my dad died I called 911 and got laughed at. It’s just how they are unfortunately
Same happened to me even though i'm an adult, said i would get a 500 dollar fine for prank calling, they sent in a cop to scold a kid, the cop was shocked to see a young adult stumbling with frame screwed there leg to the door asking for help, that was the day my grandmother broke her hip by falling down 4 stairs outside, but also 5 days after being told by my insurance they would not pay for anything do to it being "elective and not yet a problem", and having to do home care in till it could be removed, the worst pain of my life was getting out of that bed that day to open that door.
I prank called 911 and they showed up in under 5 min and scowled me for doing so when I was a kid so it’s so confusing when they don’t show up fast when it’s serious lmaoooo
@bruhmoment5974"not all police" the fact that theres even one out there that is like this is still enough to be concerning, if this is who the public is supposed to be protected by, and theres a decent amount of people to agree and speak with their own experiences of law enforcement treating citizens poorly, its still concerning. saying its not all police may be correct but its still insensitive to those on the lower end who have been harmed or discriminated by law enforcement.
I can't believe Liam's parents thought PRISON of all places would be a safe place to teach their son a lesson. We all know in prison cops let the prisoners kill each other on the daily. You aren't considered human once you're in jail. Just an animal the guards will beat and barely tolerate
Yeah, poor Liam I couldn't imagine being troubled like him and than put in a vulnerable situation like that, I'm sure his parents weren't mentioning something that made him act out other than "just being a rebellious teenager" because I don't think any normal parent would immediately think prison is SAFE for a young boy around grown men
No, everyone doesn't know that. Everyone think prison are a place bad people go to become good people. That's what they're lead to believe. Something about Diane is incredibly hopeful despite how grim the scenario is. Like yes, she's on the verge of death every day, but dammit she's still happy and strong. I admire her.

Fun fact: in the Dutch language, polio is used as a swearword. There is a Dutch phrase ‘Heb je soms de polio?’, which literally translates to ‘Do you have the polio or something?’. It is said to someone who is being lazy, since polio can greatly restrict movement. There are also other phrases like ‘Krijg de polio’ (Go get the polio).
I'm so glad you covered "Dr. Satan" and really described just how crazy the situation was. He totally took advantage of the chaos going on to fulfill his depraved atrocities...
longest living iron lung survivor is Paul Alexander, living in one for over 70 years after contracting polio at age of 6 , he even made it into Guinness world record. he actually became a lawyer. he turns 78 on january 10th. he is still alive :)
There was a girl I knew throughout elementary school and high school who woke up one morning completely paralyzed from a virus closely related to polio. She was fortunately able to still speak, eat, breathe, and had limited control of her hands, but it really put into perspective how horrific polio was before it was eradicated.
That police officer one Upsets me immensely. If you call 911, they are required to send help. Even if it is a prank call the matter the circumstances. That lawyer said exactly what I was thinking.
i think they do it during a transfer, as if they escape, it's harder to get away when you're attached to someone else (like a morbid version of a three-legged race). no excuse to cuff a child to a known dangerous criminal though

Im convinced winning the lottery is one of the worst things that can happen to a person. It really changes the way you think, throwing money out the window without even thinking about it. And you dont realise you've ran out until its too late and your life is pretty much ruined.
Not really, only those who are mentally strong enough to not actually go around and gifting others with stuff bought by that money could be able to keep a hold of themselves, and ofc using money into much more useful purposes instead of giving her/him and ur entire life is made by unknown people who are there for money only,it ain't about lottery,it is more about how much of a prepared person u are for that outcome to happen
Nah.. it’s just that stupid people seem to win it.. dumb people who are already bad with money giving alot of it is a recipe for disaster.. and that’s why they do it. Government know that money will be taxed and wasted so who cares.. you see I’m smart and that assures that I’ll never win the lottery lol doesn’t work that way
No joke, I did a double take and jaw dropped when I saw this in my notifications. If that doesn’t show how much of an event this series is, then idk what will.
The most horrifying part about winning a massive amount of money is, well, you'll see sides of loved one's you'dve never known otherwise and you gotta play it smart.

My sixth grade teacher was a child towards the end of the last US polio epidemic. She used to tell us about how she always feared getting sick, and especially feared the iron lung.
That story with Robert really pissed me off. 1 million dollars is nowhere near enough. I hope those two operators live with the guilt for a very long time

Imagine hearing a kid telling you, a 911 DISPATCHER, "my mom passed out" and saying "ok, can I talk to her then?" Like, I get it, being a 911 dispatcher is stressful, those two have probably heard so many people die or commit violent crimes over the phone, but that's no excuse for ignoring a child's pleas for help and letting a woman die, and even threatening and intimidating said child for doing what he was supposed to do

Regarding the emergency operators- This happens so much, this cade isn't special. There have been so many children calling emergency services only to be denied. It is an issue with the emergency operators, it's also an issue with pur attitude towards children as a society. We always assume children are malicious and just playing. We never take them seriously when they have something important.
Seriously, the way people just assume all kids are malicious little criminals who think of NOTHING all day but how to be the most trouble to the grownups that they possibly can is such bullshit. As someone who was morbidly well-behaved as a kid, I'm always like, "just because YOU were an awful little shit doesn't mean everyone is!"

@@sceplecture2382 I mean what they did was a little extreme, but in the end it was more the prison's fault. I don't know how they thought pairing a teen with an experienced murderer who outweighed him in strength was a good idea. Furthermore, the police heard everything and did nothing.

Dispatch not sending officers to an emergency is too big of an issue to this day. I knew a guy who suffered from polio. It left his body very disfigured and he had to walk with a walker. He's still one of the best bass players I have ever heard though.
I couldn't imagine being in one of those rooms full of iron lung patients. The sound of mechanical breathing mixed with the natural heavy forced breathing would just be haunting.
My great-grandma had polio when she was a child. The only long-lasting thing that I know of that happened to her was that it stunted her growth. Surprisingly, she would end up living to 95. She passed away in 2021 from old age.
Billy Bob is a lesson. If you win the lottery, just stay anonymous as long as you can, I understand thats not possible for states like california where they require you be named. but wear a mask, get a lawyer, anything to hide you identity as long as possible. Still go to work, and live your life like nothing happened to not raise suspicion. Repair what you have, maybe buy a few new creature comforts. If you have a spouse and kids, you are going to have to keep a secret from them. Use as little as possible, placing it into mutual funds. When you go, it will be a parting gift that will secure their future, which is all you can hope for.

When my mom collapsed the day she died, my cousin was on the phone with 911. I could hear the operator asking my cousin if we needed firemen or police, and saying, "What?" When she, my cousin, asked for an ambulance. 911 sent a fire truck, who drove past my grandpa's house twice - once in each direction. I think they called an ambulance for us, once my grandpa waved down the fire truck, but not 100% sure. Them getting to my grandpa's house any faster probably wouldn't have saved my mom, but I've seen what shoddy 911 operators can do to an already stressful situation. So yeah, screw all 911 operators who can't give a single damn about anyone.

I remember hearing about a man who was in an Iron lung, but his was failing. Turns out a mechanic had a few iron lungs and managed to get in contact with the guy and repair it. Oh nahhhh I'd be suing if I called up 911, explained that I found by Dad dead, and their response was to laugh at me.
@bruhmoment5974 And? There's a *shocking* number that are. One bad apple spoils the whole barrel, especially when they undergo no consequences.
Yeah, poor Liam I couldn't imagine being troubled like him and than put in a vulnerable situation like that, I'm sure his parents weren't mentioning something that made him act out other than "just being a rebellious teenager" because I don't think any normal parent would immediately think prison is SAFE for a young boy around grown men
Thought instead of murder I thought Liam was going to get assaulted
No, everyone doesn't know that. Everyone think prison are a place bad people go to become good people. That's what they're lead to believe. I think the way she passed was the "morbid" part instead of her life and accomplishments. She was truly a testament to the human spirit and will to survive.
@@frisky-tart i think it was more so how she went out
Something about Diane is incredibly hopeful despite how grim the scenario is. Like yes, she's on the verge of death every day, but dammit she's still happy and strong. I admire her.
i'd rather die then to live like this, it's just my opinion but, seeing people stuck in these for the rest of their life, most of them not being able to achieve their dreams is just heartbreaking
also most of them not being able to LIVE, wondering if they're gonna live tommorow or not is just tragic
Diane's optimism in spite of the immensely shitty hand life dealt her is inspiring. She achieved an incredible goal that many people try and fail at--publishing a book! She worked so incredibly hard under impossible circumstances. She looks so cheerful in the photos--despite everything, she seemed like she was a really happy person. Rest in peace, and thank you, Diane, for putting your book and your personal story out into the world.
That's not really a swearword, that's more an insult
So its like the Japanese when they say "die"
no its insult we use
Off topic but nice helluva boss pfp !!
Most Dutch swears are illnesses or body parts.

Why the h*ll was this kid handcuffed to another guy? Why would any two prisoners be handcuffed to each other?

Imagine hearing a kid telling you, a 911 DISPATCHER, "my mom passed out" and saying "ok, can I talk to her then?"
Like, I get it, being a 911 dispatcher is stressful, those two have probably heard so many people die or commit violent crimes over the phone, but that's no excuse for ignoring a child's pleas for help and letting a woman die, and even threatening and intimidating said child for doing what he was supposed to do
