As a lifelong person using only woodstoves for heat in my home and currently in my cabin, fireboxes do function more efficiently with a small layer of ash it acts as an insulator, helping to contain heat. I'm currently using a 100 year old, wood fired, cook stove. Hi Wounderpussy, You are a remarkable lady. You have great talent in writing. You should look in to writing scripts for some of these "true" TV programs and other shows. The High Rimrock Massacre was the last Native American/White man massacre in America. The story is very sad in many ways showing the desperation of the Native American with the encroaching sheepherding business. A Basque friend of mine in Cedarville(he's 101 yrs now)lost a close relative in the massacre. There were I believe 5 or 6 sheepherders massacred by the Native in order to poach the sheep and make jerky. The story is well documented in a book of the title;Frozen Grass. If you could lay your hands on a copy, it gives a very detailed account of the High Rimrock Canyon Massacre. The book is hard to find or purchase, but well worth the read to fill in some history of the area you were in. Enjoyed the video, as it again brought back memories of my time in Cedarville and the special folks who live in that region. Thank you.
We stayed at a friend's cabin once. Being fastidious, my dad cleaned out the ash, before we left, from the stovepipe fireplace. Later my friend admonished me for cleaning it out, saying you always leave the ash!

Located more than 150 miles north of Reno and surrounded by only a few small communities, the Massacre Rim Dark Sky Sanctuary suffers little from light pollution. The topography allows for fantastic star-gazing opportunities: the Sanctuary encompasses two volcanic plateaus surrounded by wide valley floors. Along the western edge of the Dark Sky Sanctuary, the Massacre Rim, a 1,200 foot tall escarpment, descends dramatically into Long Valley. The best star gazing happens in July when the Sagittarius and Scorpio constellations are their highest in the sky. The Perseids meteor shower, a prolific meteor shower associated with the comet Swift-Tuttle, is visible from mid-July each year. It peaks in early August when dozens of shooting stars are visible each hour. The Massacre Rim Dark Sky Sanctuary is located within the traditional territory of the Northern Paiute. The Massacre Rim derives its name from the steep escarpment along the western edge of the volcanic plateau and its proximity to the Massacre Lakes, a series of seasonally-dry lakes. Although the origin of the name “Massacre Lakes” is unknown, most likely, the name refers to stone markers under which weary travelers would bury their unneeded supplies. Later emigrants falsely interpreted these markers as graves.

I suspect the box on the back of the house that had the ground below is the answer to the power question. That fabric strap in the left side was either a hinge or a temporary lock of sorts. If entry to the box could be made, you would probably find a place to hook up your generator or portable power supply. They could have secured the box because someone tried to hook up a power source with a foreign voltage and caused some damage. The alternative is to plug the 120v output from your portable power supply into the receptacle on the switch panel inside the house or into an adapter in one of the light sockets on the outside . You would probably need an correctly configured extension cord with two male connectors to do this. If you had portable solar panels for your portable power supply you could keep the supply topped off for continuous power.

Welp...probably into that power red truck box there is a timer to start the electricity on...ooor... somewhere in the roof there is a sun light-off sensor that tells the electricity to start running. And where does the power comes from...? 🤔 Well... maybe there is a power generator system that works with the wood stove heat... ooor... Why can't it be some wire installation under the ground...? 🤨
There's probably a hookup for a generator in the electrical box. Just take the one screw out and open it and plug her in. I know it sounds complicated but I'm a rocket surgeon.

We usually plug our generator into any outlet to supply electric to the entire place .
I had to laugh about your comments on fur , I know what you was referring to . It was a good one . Be safe
I will definitely look into this on my next road trip to the west. Greetings from Texas !
Thanks for the information WH, but you've basically spot burned that place(EG: told the entire world about it and location. I found it google in no time flat). Maybe in the future, make it harder for people to find. Worry that it'll be vandalized soon.
My 2c.
Looks a lot better than so many of those old mining cabins. Agree spring summer fall maybe a bit rough in winter but fun you are the best explorer ever and so brave.
Had to be a power hookup somewhere. Looked like there was an electric box in bedroom you missed. There has to be hookup somewhere. Cool cabin.😎🏜❤🦋🌞
I always enjoy WH and the kisss was great!
Thank you for showing us. It is very pretty
Oh!!! I thought it stood for, oh well, I'll be nice...
Hi Sarah, I sought your most recent upload since I'm worried about you & your death valley home. I heard reports of recent flash floods in the vicinity of the death valley national park & since then I've heard nothing more for nearly a week. I & probably many of you admirers are concerned. We'd like to hear that your home is ok & that your beautiful self is fine too. Let us know cara linda, we wish you the best our brave lady tour guide of the wild & wonderful desert SW. I'm guessing the generator plug in is in the exterior electrical box.
Wild times Sarah...thanks for showing us this!
That cabin is on the old Applegate Oregon trail.

Wonderhussy!
I bet seeing the night sky from that area would be great.
Just get one of those bunks with the cardboard mattress, and stare up into the heavens.
I went here a few years back, loved it. Beautiful area. Lots of obsidian in the area. Bella and I hiked to the rocks nearby and got a great view of the surrounding area. It was a full moon so we did not get to see the amazing stars, someday we will come back when there is no moon!

@@blessedveteranI'm great enjoying the Blessed day from Houston Texas
Welp...probably into that power red truck box there is a timer to start the electricity on...ooor... somewhere in the roof there is a sun light-off sensor that tells the electricity to start running. And where does the power comes from...? 🤔 Well... maybe there is a power generator system that works with the wood stove heat... ooor... Why can't it be some wire installation under the ground...? 🤨
There's probably a hookup for a generator in the electrical box. Just take the one screw out and open it and plug her in. I know it sounds complicated but I'm a rocket surgeon.
That you are 👍
Those straps were the hinges.
There was a plug in in the box for a genset. Also a breaker panel .
That Black Rifle coffee spiel Crack my ass up... Love your spirit Sarah Jane...
I'd use that old outhouse before one of those portapottys you showed us at burningman
The places I been where they needed Electricity you brought your own Generator. Ione had owen generator for the bar , same with Olinghouse , and Gold Point.. bring your own. Other people there will pitch in on cost. And talk to the Buckaroos if you find some herding cattle because . Theyll Talk your ear off. And they take of the Hot Springs. P
Proper etiquette would be to clean your old ashes out and re lay a fire for anyone that may need it in an emergency. I guess you need to bring your own supply of your own firewood and basic supplies.
