🙌 Amazing review Jody, thank you for taking the time! 📣 For folks finding our brand via this video we wanted to introduce a 12hr extension to our pre-order discounts 🥳 Discounts end Midnight BST 19 October ⏰
Data point: I totally did buy the weird one. Just seemed like a fun addition to a field watch collection already full of black, grey, and drab dials. While definitely tempted by the yellow version, the charming "functionality" and cheerful coloring just really grabbed me. Feels like something that has the potential to be a bit of a cult classic...? I'd already gotten a similar vibe from the product shots, so I'm glad to hear they remind of Traska's subtly excellent wearing experience.
I precisely pre-ordered a Munro only because of the Ridgeline colorway 😂 and I know I’m not the only one (although I would’ve swapped black for navy and the orange for amber). Thanks for the review Jody!
Full lume dial makers: For the love of ALL that is HOLY, use BLACK HANDS to give superior contrast both day and night. Lumed hands on a lumed dial is impossible to see after a few minutes. See Damasko or Laco for how it's done! /end rant
FWIW, I have a 7'' wrist and just bought a similar cased 37.5mm watch (albeit with slightly longer lugs). With that thin bezel, I really wouldn't want to go any larger. It's plenty big enough.
I once bought a vintage Eterna that was 34mm, from 1956 by the serial number, and damned if it doesn't actually look nice as heck. I then added a watch from the women's Seiko cocktail time line at 33,5mm. It sounds ridiculous but I love it.
When I bought my first watch,a Smiths, womens watches were tiny and a mans' watch was around 35mm. Of course it would have been in inches. Any fool can adapt an alarm clock to be a watch but it takes skill to make one small and legible. I have a diver that was given to me that's 44mm. Never wear it. Don't dive.
Yeah, watches have become massive in the last 50 years. When I was a high school kid in the 90s, a man's watch was 34-40mm. A 43mm G-Shock 5600 was considered a truly MASSIVE watch, and one that you'd never wear in anything outside work or sport scenarios. Now I've seen companies try and claim 40 as a women's watch- it took some doing for my wife to find a somewhat dressy watch in the 25-30mm band. My Baltany on my wrist as I write this is 36, and it's easily readable, fairly slim, and tough.@@martinsaunders7925
That VW is an absolutely iconic design, so you've given that watch a big compliment, one that I think it deserves. When every watch look so samey same, this company has made one that has a very striking and handsome look.
Yep that’s really nice. The amber is really lovely and I love white dials too, however I share your concerns about the multi-colour (although I do get it if you view the black as the sky). Not Scottish but British so I’m deffo on board here. Been honest a 38-40mm would be ideal but looked great on your wrist and mines the same size. The crown size is fine by me too. A classy timepiece nice one guys. 👌
Just like 1970s prog-rock flutists, castles, folk music, whiskey, redheads (female), victorian flyfishing literature, Scotland is bloody f'n brilliant at making them. And now watches too. And they're good at sheep sheering too. Yes, Scotland is one of my favourite countries in the world. Greetings from boring and thick as a brick bundle of dry-twigs that is dull, cold and dark Norway.
I have ordered the ridge line one it’s extremely unusual and I like the 3 colours was waiting 2 years on a rolex which I still haven’t got from an Authorised dealer but am really looking forward to this unusual face watch
Amazing watch. I actually like the oversize crown. I think it gives the watch character, like a good looking man or woman with a big nose. Another nice detail is the heavily chamfered edges on the skin side of the bracelet and case. Too many watches keep these edges sharp and uncomfortable, but this watch was clearly designed to actually be worn. Also, the applied markers are a nice touch. Painted markers would have been fine, but the applied markers give the dial some nice depth and dimension. Very impressive watch.
Very nice watch. No moans nor niggles from me. I even like the Ridgeline dial. And to those that say it is too small - I have a LARGE (9 inch/23mm) wrist, and I would wear that, and enjoy every minute of it.
@@paulwilberforce9659 No worries. Hardly any companies send watches with straps, bracelets, etc that fit me. I get xl straps from various vendors, either leather or nato. All good.
Love that dial! It's a nice crown too. Thanks for not saying colorway. Maybe the crown is a little much, but I really think it works. Ok, maybe a mm smaller would have worked, too.
Nice looking watch. The on the fly adjustment is really nice, although I find I rarely use it. Traska has been doing basically this watch, with their fantastic coating included, for some years now.
Love the look of this one, and I placed a pre-ordered when it was launched for the black variant. Happen to be a Scot myself, so nice to buy a local watch for once 🙂
The ridgeline colour is fabulous!!! Newer saw a serious watch being more fun that that. And combining it with the avalanche back-story is genius. If the watch would be closer to my price range I surely would get one of those. I think its cool that they went for it. PS.: I also don´t mind the comparison to the VW Harlekin line.
I've been looking forward to this one, i ordered when they went live earlier this week...and of course got the Ridgeline 😉 Not often I find myself disagreeing with your vids Jody, but the tri-colour and huge crown were big draws for me! Now let's see whether Erebus or Clemence get their beauties to my doorstep first! 😂
I like the multi coloured one. Unique certainly and not for everyone but a daring move. Intriguing rationale as well. Cool watch! Great review as always Jody.
A bit of Nodus and Traska and maybe Astor and banks, and also Farer.... a bit of everything. they spend hours and hours looking for inspiration, I am sure. I absolutely love the watch. And I really like the tricolour dial, maybe because you do not see it everyday. But my heart is with the amber dial because is not too orangey.. The brand needs more colours. Maybe blue and red and green, but not another of that famous light blue please.
As a proud Scot, I'm delighted there are people in our small country that have the initiative, determination & drive to create their own watches. It's very refreshing to see & I hope their efforts see an uptick in young people looking to make a career in watchmaking. I love being able to support this type of business & have ordered the Spindrift which manages to solve a dearth in white dialed watches that I own. Looking forward to the Spring when I will have completely forgotten I've ordered it & subsequently get a pleasant surprise :) Good luck with the launch guys.
Motherwell calling. That is an absolute screamer of a watch❤. I've stood (and a lot of the time camped) at the summit of a Munro nearly 700 times .......albeit I still haven't bagged the full 282 yet......30 to go, lots of double/triples .....and more. I'm sick as a pike as I've just not long bought a BB 41 and I could have saved 2 grand and worn a watch much closer to my heart. Black faced version for the win❤❤❤❤
Hummed and hawed over this for a while as the size is just below my preferred 39-41mm. Looked at it a bit more and liked it's similarity to an old Tissot my mum gave me so decided to go for it. Being born in Leith also helps. Can't for the life of me understand the reasoning behind the Ridgeline colouring though, but others seem to like it which is fair enough.
I started watching a Scottish crime drama on Britbox, its called Shetland. Good show but I have to watch with subtitles even though they are speaking English. I have a munro in spindrift on order and can't wait to get it.
I must say, I absolutely love the sleek low profile case, the alternating brushing, female end links, and just the overall appeal of this one. However, if we're going to go with British "philosophically similar" explorer types of a smaller case size (36mm), how would you rate it against the Smiths Everest? (Over twice the price) It's been on my wishlist for a few years now. 🤞
Great idea with the tree planting, and definitely a very cool field watch. I abstaning from buying any new watches after I pulled the trigger on the Erebus :D Thanks Jody.
Those are lovely, I disagree with some about full lume dials requiring black hands, I think of you have a fairly wide boarder around the lume, painted a dark colour, you can still get really good legibility.
They are all pretty except the muti-colour one. The fully luminous, nice. My favorite feature is the raised number/batons outlined in black. Still I’m a little bored and feel their a little homely. Still nice
Love field watches and will be looking forward to this one, great crown on this one too. BTW my ancestors were run out of Ayrshire 300 years ago, small world lol
Really like the amber version. For me it would heve been good to have a manual wind movement. If I had not just ordered a couple of Erebus watches from some Aussie/Scot and his Kiwi pal this would have been a contender........
I like the tree planting venture as a bit of a novelty. It's a very nice looking watch, but the price is close to $1000 Aussie for a Miyota movement. The amber colour is nice, and I really like the handset and the numerals.
solid review…This is a beauty…particularly in amber. Watches without bezels around 37-38 look perfect on my 7 inch wrist. I like the box sapphire a lot. I dont really really like the brand name but that would not put me off
Too small for me but at least reminded me I hadn't worn my early 90s TAG diver in a while - though I am now. Love it but it doesn't get much wear because it's 37mm dia which was a "big" watch in the day but has seemed small ever since my Seiko Orange Monster came along a decade later, followed by [far too] many 40-43mm watches
Being something of a field watch aficionado, I was instantly captivated by the looks of the watch. The one caveat, for me, though, is the movement. I don’t mind that it’s a Miyota, however, I do mind that it’s mechanical. Lately I’ve been leaning towards field watches that have quartz movements (Hamilton, Marathon, Aqua Terra etc…). I’ve come around to the notion that a reliable quartz movement in a simple, rugged, good looking field watch, go hand-in-hand… Set it and forget it and every time you need to go, grab it. If Clemence cases a HAQ inside this watch in the future I’m buying 2, one black and one amber.
Beautiful watch.I'm partial to green lume personally. I'm not that into explorers but I like their Photic diver, so thanks for bringing the brand to my attention.
A quick look at their website reveals that they don’t seem to identify as Scottish, lots of union flags and the word “Britain”. “Scotland” only appears in their address.
Lovely watch, I'm really into explorer-style dress-ISH watches but with interesting dials. I have the miyota movement in a citizen, I never notice it, but it's in a much thicker dive case so maybe it's more noticeable in a slim case such as this. Round of applause to the maker. Looks like I'm clicking the link!
Great to see this review. I’ve seen this watch and like the look, so this review convinced me it “walks the walk.” Great size, super slim at 10mm, the design gives me a Frank Lloyd Wright kind of feel, and those bracelet links appear to be approaching an Ebel-like finish: smooth, like Gary Coleman. 😊
I like the ridgeline color variation the most….it’s something different and well executed and attractive imo. I’m sick of seeing the same old colors and designs over and over again. The type of people who complain about dials like this are the types that have a collection of 200 budget watches that barely look different from one another. You should be encouraging brands to do different stuff, Jody, as opposed to acting perplexed when something new is done.
I've got between 34mm to 42mm watches so 37mm is a good size for me. Everything is perfectly in proportion so don't think the size matters much. Nice to see no Nh38, I would go for the black, the multicoloured one looks a bit like a sampler. With no date it wouldn't get much wrist time, so a bit pricy. Very like an Explorer homage so good to see dial and hands completely different, don't think they will be taking customers from Rolex.
Thats the motto buy Scottish!!! I'll tell you Jody. Bought a CCCP diver Limited edition cheap on ebay. Im a watch tinkerer. And found thay the watch was stopping on further investigation realised the movement used was a cheap chinese one. Not the Slava nos as previously thought. These watches retail at 500 usd. Im glad i only got it for 40 quid. Its a project now and I'll see what i can do with it. As aside from the crap movement. Case and bracelet look very good quality.
That's really nice! That green from the crazy one or teal would have been a good color... Feels like it's missing some color options... Maybe the could be some interesting sushi texture options as well as more color choices in future versions. As far as size, it's is a really good size for this style of watch. There's a reason why some popular watches are available in more than one size... Split the difference isn't really the best option, if you want to cater to lovers of different watch sizes. It can work if it has to... But it's not the same at all.
I'm sure you must have a pair of shorts to pull off that Ridgeway variant, Jody. Seen a lot of nice watches popping up for review recently and I think the Ridgeway is something that will stick in my mind come my next purchase.

In the 70s there was a pub in Leith that kept a puma. The bar manager released it to encourage drinkers to go home.
It is amusing that you touch on the social politics of a 20mile divide when it takes 6hours by jet to fly from one side of Australia to the other.
I don't mind the multi-colored watch. It is going to look great in photos and can be matched with interesting outfits.

Very like an Explorer homage so good to see dial and hands completely different, don't think they will be taking customers from Rolex.
That yellow dial one is stunning IMO.
It has Club Campus vibes, very vibrant orange it be said
Jody i have a 6 inch wrist i don't always need a Big Ben on my wrist. easy on us 38mm and below wearers😅
More power to the #smallwristsappreciationsociety
Cool details and finish for me. I'm not down with the handset personally
The wee toon ( Campbeltown) on yer channel 😁. Nice watch 👌
Would you call the color more yellow or more orange?
@Clemence:
A slightly smaller crown (or a bigger case) and some other color options and I'm onboard!
Everyone was screaming about baltic release but this is better!
I'm sure you must have a pair of shorts to pull off that Ridgeway variant, Jody. Seen a lot of nice watches popping up for review recently and I think the Ridgeway is something that will stick in my mind come my next purchase.
