I'm from a little city in Belgium named Hasselt, we are know for our Jenever aka Gin and Speculoos, speculoos you could discribe it as a hard gingerbread cookie.
Hi there, I'm born in Bruges... a little secret to share ; the bistros at Grand Place (where you ate that stew) aren't bad, but the better ones are hidden in the smaller streets (and they are usually cheaper as well). A fun fact about the small apetizers you get when ordering beer ; I've read that they do that to follow an old law that could be used by people not wanting to pay. You see, there seems to be an old law that stipulates when serving alcoholic beverages you need to serve something hearty to prevent intoxication. When serving alcohol without something else you could give people a legal reason not to pay for your drinks. It was in the news about a year ago when a lawyer used that law in the defence a table skimmer .
Hey Dav! Years ago (before the pandemic) me and my family met you in Houten at a reptile convention. Nice you do something new now, welcome in Belgium!
Love the new intro!! Be careful on your search cause do remember that they were no longer the knights who say Ni, they are now The Knights Who Say Ecky-Ecky-Ecky-Ecky-Pikang-Zoom-Boing-Gumzowehzeh' (Ni!)
Man, Dave! I didn't know you had a food channel. Seems we share both reptiles and food/travel as passions. Such great content! Belgium is on my list for next year! Keep it up!
wow, what an incredible video! I loved every second of this, thanks for bringing us along. I know it can be awkward filming especially in public, but we appreciate it so much. Also. I really liked the new intro. Everything looked so delicious too. Man, I wish I could travel to these places, this is the closest I'll ever get.
I'm glad you like the new intro! And I don't mind vlogging in public because every time I do it when I'm done someone comes up and asks me what my channel is and I get new subscribers :)
@davkaufmaneatstheworld i lived Belgium for 6 months, I'm from italy, I know good food and Belgium impressed me. Vol au vent is actually very easy to make at home yourself, when I discovered this dish in Belgium, I did some research and now I make it atleast once a month at home myself from scratch, it's easy, you can make it from scratch in less than 40 min. The only thing you need to buy pre-made if you want to save time is the little puff pastry, you can find this at any supermarket or bakery in Europe
I live near Bruges and it saddens me to say you litterally went to all the tourist traps... The outside restaurants at the market square, the waffles in the alley to the Burg (the little square where you sat). The only thing I would ever buy are the beignets (which are called oliebollen btw). Fun fact: a lot of the medieval looking houses in Ghent are not very old but were built quite recently to make the city look more medieval :D
i want to bakery school in Bruges for 2years and 3 in Brussels with specialization on chocolat, have not use the skills in 10years but i am so glad i did it
Many years ago ( ok, decades ) ago when I had just graduated from college and moved to Iowa City, we ate a LOT of rabbit. In the local stores it was about the same $$ chicken - but much more flavorful. Now it is "special" too bad, makes lovely stews !
I like some lil things in the northern side of my country but Belgium is not only the North side, a country three regions / three communities (different with regions ... yes I know it is complicated ^^) but lots of yummy things all over our little country :)
Looks amazing in Belgium. Wouldn't mind trying the waffles. That looked yummy! I think you'll enjoy some of the South African beers as well. We do good draughts. 🍻
The final war between the young United States and Great Britain was known as the War of 1812. Have you gone to Denmark? The country is small; but, it has some good food. At least, it did when I lived there.
@@davkaufmaneatstheworld The one thing we are good at is poking fun at ourselves. Come to chesterfield and i'll take you to taco bell and dunkin' doghnuts.
